William Post (businessman)

  • ... that Bill Post encouraged schoolchildren to "always do more than is expected" before giving them samples from his unlimited supply of Pop-Tarts? Source: "Mr. Post told his Pop-Tarts story to students into his 80s, his son said. He often talked about being the son of immigrants who could barely speak English, and challenged students to do their best and work hard. He would also bring them samples from his unlimited supply of Pop-Tarts.
Every time he went into a classroom, his son recalled, he would tell the students: “‘If you want to be noticed, always do more than is expected.’”" NY Times

  • ALT3 ... that Bill Post, who helped invent Pop-Tarts, kept a supply in his car which had the license plate POPTART? The Telegraph Thriley (talk) 04:24, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

Created by Thriley (talk) and HistoryTheorist (talk). Nominated by Thriley (talk) at 02:57, 21 February 2024 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/William Post (businessman); consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.

  • ... Nice work, new, interesting, reads well. QPQ provided. Copyvio of the article in general is okay except for the hook bit which is very similar to the wording in the source even without the quote. Suggest reword a bit and maybe consider a hook on the lines of the co-inventor of pop tarts, Post showed that the icing does not melt when they are heated, or something like that. Whispyhistory (talk) 07:54, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
Thank you... can you make it clear in the hook and in the article that he helped/led the team that invented the pop tart please? Whispyhistory (talk) 17:24, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
Will do that. Created another hook that Bill Post himself would approve of. I didn't write the section on the invention of the Pop-Tart, but I'll be sure to modify this. I'm sort of getting sucked into this DYK because I need to finish working on Gerald McGinnis so I can nominate it for DYK tomorrow. ❤HistoryTheorist❤ 17:34, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
No worries.. let me me know how I can help.. and take your time. fyi.. I have never had a pop tart. Whispyhistory (talk) 17:37, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
Lol, me neither . I just read a bit too much of the AP obituaries to let this one pass by. ❤HistoryTheorist❤ 18:02, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
  • @Whispyhistory: Do you have any other concerns with the article that need to be addressed? (Just asking out of curiosity) ❤HistoryTheorist❤ 23:35, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
  • ... All looks accurate and good. All hooks are in the article and followed by citations to references containing hook facts. It would be good to have a photo of his lovely smile. Thank you to a great team effort. Whispyhistory (talk) 06:17, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
  • I would love a picture of him too. However, I couldn't find any free images. Might insert a non-free image, but that means it won't be used for DYK though. Thanks for reviewing this DYK, this is probably one of my favorite articles to work on so far. ❤HistoryTheorist❤ 15:12, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
