"Royal" Borough of Greenwich

Is it possible to link "Greenwich" on this template to Royal Borough of Greenwich, rather than [London Borough of Greenwich]? as the latter redirects to the former Panhard (talk) 03:11, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Police Scotland

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

As with Police Scotland above, all of the regional fire services in Scotland merged to form the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service on 1 April 2013 too, if the template could be updated. — Suxamethonium 22:40, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Scotland map

I switched the default location map for Scotland to use UK Scotland, instead of Scotland. There was a problem that the map_relief parameter was returning the opposite result, due to the fact that the Scotland location map template has the maps reversed. So, if you want to enable a relief map in an article using the Scotland location map, make sure you are using |map_relief=1 and UK Scotland for the map. Let me know if I screwed something up. Thanks! Problem is incorrect coding of the template - Template:Infobox UK place/local expects "Scotland" to tell it its a Scottish transclusion, "UK Scotland" doesn't match so it falls through to the default (UK-wide) map. I've reverted, and made the required change to the local subpage (after checking in sandbox). Map relief now works as Plastikspork says.--Nilfanion (talk) 17:52, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Coordinates

We still don't have the ability to set a county- or city- specific |coordinates_type= property, as discussed in 2012. I propose that we add one now. we should also display the coordinates inside the infobox, as well as at the top of the page. Coordinate display

As well as the unresolved coordinate parameter issues listed above; we still don't have the ability to set |coordinates_display=inline,title, as can be done in most other geographical infoboxes, not least {{infobox settlement}}. Status of places

There should be a status headline below the place name in the infobox. For example, Bath is a city and this can quickly be shown to the reader in the infobox, instead of searching through the article to see if it is a city or not. Also, Abingdon is a town and this can be put in the box. I believe this will make the infobox more appealing, and provide quick information about the place like in other related infoboxes. Wiki-cy

Hi all. Our templates seem to generate a map of the UK rather than individual counties eg w:cy:Cogenhoe. I think there's a lot of work involved here. Secondly, there seems to be a problem with "Region" ("Rhanbarth") - as it does not appear. Thanks. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 05:00, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

References

Looking at [1], it seems that the "population_ref" parameter (and possibly others) of this infobox creates a space before a reference, which is contrary to WP:PAIC. Toccata quarta (talk) 09:44, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

The field is also used for outputting textural information such as (2011 census), approx. etc. which needs the space. May be it needs to detect if it is a true reference marker and suppress the space. Keith D (talk) 12:29, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Welsh Things

A few points:

  • It would be good if the infobox showed "Preserved county", rather than "Ceremonial county" (derived from lieutenancy_wales I think). Preserved county is the official term.
  • For elections to the Welsh Assembly, the assembly constituencies are shown (constituency_welsh_assembly). Each constituency returns a member, but additional members are also elected by PR from electoral regions (for example, the constituency of Torfaen is part of the South Wales East electoral region). Could the electoral region be shown (automatically created from the constituency name)?
  • Would it be useful to have a parameter for community_ward? These are used for elections to community councils (and differ from the electoral wards/divisions used for elections to county/county boroughs). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robevans123 (talk • contribs) 20:43, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

{{Infobox UK place/local}} appears to use {{{ambulance_service}}} for Hart (district) rather than a specific link like the others. Keith D (talk) 11:48, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
Problem occurs for several (but not all) other places in Hart, such as Fleet, Hampshire and Hook, Hart. Judging by Template:Infobox UK place/local, when {{infobox UK place}} is given |shire_district=[[Hart (district)|Hart]] it must also be given a value in |ambulance_service=. This is the only district council where the |ambulance_service= parameter must be set explicitly (see e.g. Blackwater, Hampshire or Bramshill); I suspect that it's because Hart is served by more than one ambulance service, the name of which cannot easily be derived from the other parameters. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:49, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
Yes, there is a choice of two for Hampshire: South Central Ambulance Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service so the correct one needs to be specified in the article. -- WOSlinker (talk) 22:22, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Scottish Counties

Why is there no provision for the historic counties of Scotland? Although usage of them has declined in recent years, they are still a lot more relevant than the lieutenancy areas. 88.104.253.76 (talk) 19:45, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

One issue with historic counties (the same applies south of the Tweed) is boundary changes. I'm aware of transfers between counties (eg Aberdeenshire to Banffshire) long before 1970 - which is the historic county in those cases? To use Glasgow as another example, it was separated from Lanarkshire well before Lanarkshire's abolition in 1975. And what about regions like Strathclyde - shouldn't they be mentioned too? Accurately providing that information needs more than just one parameter, it needs provision for several, with dates - which starts to overload the template. That's ignoring the POV minefield associated with the current status of the counties...
At least the lieutenancy areas are definitely current, and have precisely known boundaries. Neither can be said of the historic counties.--Nilfanion (talk) 00:54, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

And that's one thing that has near-zero chance of happening (and is precisely the POV minefield I was alluding to). That's because of the two issues I raise when talking about the positives of the lieutenancy areas: Its ABC's POV that says they are current on the boundaries the ABC provides. While their current status is open to debate, its clear that legislation effectively abolished them in the 70s - and the boundaries before that legislation came into effect were different to the ABC's.--Nilfanion (talk) 21:22, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

Places near Newport, Wales

User:RussBot has just made changes to several places near Newport (in Wales) – see e.g. Caerleon. It has changed the lieutenancy field to Newport which then loses the local map. Does the template need to be changed to cope with this?
