Thank You[edit]

Thank you my friend for your congrats. It's good to have an article on the main page. The only drawback is that many people who have no knowledge what-so-ever about the subject start to make uncalled for edits or comments on the talk page. Take care Tony the Marine 30 June 2005 15:52 (UTC)

Adminship[edit]

Congratulations! You are now an admin. I suggest you read the Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list and Wikipedia:Administrators' how-to guide before starting on those janitorial tasks! Warofdreams 1 July 2005 11:29 (UTC)

Request[edit]

Hello, JYolkowski! I have a favor to ask of you (and several other admins), and I hope you would mind helping. User:Ashida Kim has been giving several of us some trouble regarding the factual accuracy of the article Ashida Kim. I was first made aware of this issue after someone listed the user on Wikipedia:Clueless newbies. Therefore, I contacted User:Ashida Kim and left him a friendly message and welcome note. He responded with insults, and I again politely replied, telling him that he needed to follow Wikipedia policy and provide sources/proofs to back up his facts. After checking out his history, I see several other users have been attempting to talk with him as well. He insists on talking to an administrator, via email. He claims that he cannot contact any administrator (despite being pointed to the list).(For appropriate sections regarding this matter, see the two sections on my talk page, see his talk page, see the section titled "Personal Attack" in the help desk (Wikipedia:Help desk#Personal Attack), see his contributions, and see Wikipedia:Clueless newbies). I do not wish to get involved in this dispute (several other users & admins are already involved), but he basically requested (challenged?) that I contact several non-involved admins after I made a friendly offer. Therefore, would you mind taking a look at this case and seeing what you can do? Thank you very much. Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 3 July 2005 23:42 (UTC)

Thanks![edit]

Bratsche, thanks for your support of my RfA. It's always an encouragement to get positive feedback. I'll try not to disappoint! --Spangineer (háblame) July 4, 2005 03:47 (UTC)

Barnstar proposals[edit]

Hi, Bratsche. As General of the Barnstarium Army, I hereby deliver you this dispatch:

Some Barnstar proposals that you've contributed to are undergoing Vote or Die situations on Wikipedia:Barnstar and award proposals and Wikipedia:Barnstar and award proposals/Category barnstars. We would be honored to have you drop by and live. :) Sango123 July 4, 2005 20:36 (UTC)

Location, location[edit]

Hi. I noticed that, in the Barnstars on Wikipedia page, you moved the BoNM to the subheader of the category barnstars. We had indeed discussed using the BoNM as the award for Geography, and I do agree that the BoNM can (and already is) be used for this. But I'm worried about having it listed only as the category award for geography. The scope of the award is centered in a given nation (any nation), and, hypothetically speaking, one can (and people have) get it for work in articles that have nothing to do with geography or, more interestingly, even for articles pertaining to the other categories, as long as it's been a reasonable number of articles and they all are pertaining to one specific country.
As a compromise, we could place the BoNM at the very bottom of the "general Barnstars" topic (currently, this would be right beneath the entry for the "Resilient Barnstar"), which is right on top of the header for the category barnstars, and there we list, in the first line, which we'd actually break in two, something like this:
"Nation-related work &
Category: Geography
".
We can discuss different headings, but this would be the general idea. How about it? In conclusion, I'd just like to enphasize that all this is regarding just the positioning of the BoNM entry in the project page. I'm not questioning the use of the award for Geography-related work. I decided to contact you in your talk page because you were the one who proposed and carried out the actual move. We could make this discussion more public, although, for this reason, it may not be necessary. Regards, Redux 02:24, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

Then, we can always add Category:Countries to it. However, do not make the template too big, that is why we list everything on the page of the image we use for the BoNM. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 04:21, 16 July 2005 (UTC)
I like that idea, though as more Barnstars are being minted we have to guarantee that it stays at the bottom of 'General Barnstars'. Sango123 13:30, July 16, 2005 (UTC)

Re: Barnstar thoughts[edit]

I completely agree with you, though I've been reluctant to comment against the new proposals, especially the Starfish Barnstar because the proposer is so enthusiastic about and proficient in his oceanography work. I'm also a bit against the ODM medal since perhaps the Society Barnstar, Barnstar of National Merit, or just a regular Barnstar would suffice. However, Current Events should stay.

Recently, some discussions have died (the future for the Barnstar for Wikiprojects doesn't seem that bright), and the WP:BAP page could benefit from some clutter-clearing. Thanks for being honest, Sango123 02:31, July 16, 2005 (UTC)

P.S. Oh, and have fun/good luck on your Wikibreak!

I'll move the ODM medal to the user awards page. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 04:21, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

Email[edit]

(Copied from Theathenae's talk page)
Bratsche, thanks for taking the time to deal with an issue that probably is of no interest to you. As you may have noticed, Theathenae knew what he was doing when he broke the 3RR: he stated "it was a matter of principle" for him. His point was that someone insisted upon designating Arvanite Greeks as ethnic Albanians. Apparently Theathenae is (?) an Arvanite Greek and disagrees with that notion. After all, ethnic Albanians settled in Greece in the Middle Ages, and the Arvanite language is practically extinct in Greece. If they are to be called "ethnic Albanians", then an Englishman called Beaulieu is an ethnic Norman. I happen to own a summer home in what would be termed an "Arvanite Greek" village, so I spend time there often. Therefore I know first-hand how Arvanite Greeks consider themselves plain Greeks, plain and simple, and need to seek out an octuagenarian neighbor still speaking some Arvanite so that she can translate what I say to the newly-arrived Albanian immigrants I sometimes hire to do my garden. I sympathise 100% with Theathenae's fury on the matter. How would you suggest the situation be taken care of in the future? Surely an Arvanite Greek, or one that often lives among them, has more say on the matter than a Kossovar living in Sweden, right? Chronographos 10:51, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

I just saw you are on Wiki-break. Best of luck with your musical endeavors. I like the sound of viols, although it is only second best to the oboe!  :-) I'm afraid the Albanian discussion you initiated will (it already has!) deteriorate to juvenile delinquency .... Chronographos 18:22, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

How one feels is individual. Theathenae doesnt represent the Arvanites people. Theathenae is actually a Greek living, permanent in Sweden. He is the user on Swedish Wikipedia and received temporary ban more then five times for spreading propaganda like he does here in the English Wikipedia. Albanau 12:18, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

I'm extreamly offended[edit]

Hey Bratsche! Can I request that you ban user Chronographos and Theathenae for 24 hours cause they have in a very extream way personal attack me. They have called me an Albanian terrorist sympathiser which is defentily an extream abuse. This is personal attack, provocation and tries to drag my name through the mud. Here is the proof. This is total against Wikipedias rules not just because it is an personal attack but also such crap don't belong to the articles talk page and is total off topic, I hope you can erase those personal attacks insteed of me cause I'm afraid of getting attacked again if I erase it. A little leason those two should that if you a abuse a user in that extream way you get banned. User Chronographos and d Theathenae are continuing the allegation, this cause only a bad atmosphere. You should also protect the article Arvanitic language from this two users. Read my contribution to the talk page, Here. Albanau 22:47, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

Help on Harry Potter Issue[edit]

I have strenously objected to the following comment that is in the Severus Snape article:

<!-- PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE CONTINUING -->
<!-- Please do not add any unverified speculation about whether Snape is acting for the Order of the Phoenix or the Death Eaters. Verified notes are those that come from official channels, such as J.K. Rowling herself or any of the official Harry Potter links as shown in the following URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Potter#Official_websites -->
<!-- Any unverifiable speculation will be quickly removed. -->
<!-- Thank you for your co-operation -->
<!--- Wikipedia is not: literary analysis -->

I tried kindness - I tried pointing out it wasn't in the spirt of the wiki - I tried rudness (comments 64.12.116.10) - I even tried to point out that other speculation existed in the article (I realize this was bad form re WP:POINT).

But I really don't have the time to really edit more than I have - I just don't know where to turn for help - The nature of Snape's relationship with Good and Evil is the most interesting thing in the book to me and his character is so rich - there is much material on what his motives are and different interpretations of his behavior. Since this is clearly outlined on many blogs, independent literary analysis of HP, etc. it is something that could be documented on Wikipedia without being original research. Am I way out of line here - or can you make some comments to help what I am guessing are "zealot kids" re Harry Potter that don't like seeing discussion that involves Harry being wrong :)

I prefer to edit anonymously so leave any comments for me here - TIA 64.12.116.10 02:28, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

styles[edit]

Given the endless debate/rows etc over styles I've been thinking as to what is the best way to come up with a consensus solution. Styles have to be in an article, but using them upfront is, I think, a mistake and highly controversial. I've designed a series of templates which I think might solve the problem. There are specific templates for UK monarchs, Austrian monarchs, popes, presidents, Scottish monarchs and HRHs. (I've protected them all, temporarily, because I want people to discuss them in principle rather than battle over content and design right now.) I've used a purple banner because it is a suitable royal colour and is also distinctive. They are eyecatching enough to keep some of the pro-styles people happy; one of their fears seemed to be that styles would be buried. But by not being used they are neutral enough to be factual without appearing to be promotional. I'd very much like your views. I'm going to put them on a couple of user pages and ask for a reaction. There needs to be a calm debate on them this time. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 02:51, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

Monobook[edit]

I've never actually gotten those tabs to work; the VfD & welcome tabs don't show up for me, probably because the code is arguing with other code. I've been meaning to have func look at it, but just haven't bothered to bring it up. For the most part, what I wanted was the bar at the top and the block/blocklog/contribs tabs, along with purge/last diff. I'm afraid to fiddle with it too much, because everytime I do, I screw it up. Assuming that the tabs show up for you, ask Sasquatch about them, he should be able to tell you, or go straight to func, he's the java master. More importantly, I'm glad you like it, and thanks for your kind note! -- Essjay · Talk 04:53, August 22, 2005 (UTC)

Zombie Panic article deletion...[edit]

I recently discovered that the article on Zombie Panic!, a Half-Life 1 and 2 modification, was deleted for copyvio. According to the deletion log here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Undelete/Zombie_Panic%21 you were the Administrator that deleted it. To my knowledge, the only information in the article was taken from the Zombie Panic website. I am the leader of the Zombie Panic modification, and it is my website that the information was used from, and I have given my consent. I would like to discuss having the deletion reverted, as there is no copyvio in it, to my knowledge, and if there is, I would like to get things cleared up or at worst remove the copyrighted part (Although again I emphasize that all information on the page when I last saw it was from my website, and permission was already given.).

So how do we go about getting this rectified?

Thanks so much!
