Jamal Kelly (born July 13, 1990) is a Jamaican singer, and a local Jamaican child celebrity in his home town. Although not well known outside of his native Kingston, he has attempted to expand by singing in clubs around Vermont. Jamal Kelly has been recognized in 2 national 'best-hit' lists with his solo, "I'm Jamaican because it makes me feel good." He's been considered a Jamacian Rights in the U.S. Activist, by completing the album Jah-mon with the song, "One Day in the Junkyard".
As a young infant, Jamal's family was considered below the poverty rate, and could not pay for the cost of his birth. Jamal was then born in his own home, as the mother was a maternity nurse and the father was very good at following directions. The unmarried couple, José and Keisha Kelly, was then forced to send Jamal to the U.S. in an attempt to grant him a proper education. Jamal's loyalty to his loving mother and father is apparent in that he sends over 60% of his career's income to his parents back in Jamaica. "I love them and owe them my life man, and this is all I can do for them."
Jamal Kelly has become an inspiration to Vermonters, he has become a symbol for rejuvination of Jamaican music in small towns. He has become increasingly important to the Jamaican movement in certain schools like Champlain Valley Union High School.
Jamal's profile has increased signifigantly in the past months. While attending high-school in Vermont, he has also been contracted to complete another album by the same studio that produced Jah-Mon.
