About me

I'm a hobby photographer with a keen interest in improving knowledge and understanding. My interests include emergency management, spatial information and computer programming.

Photography

My foray into photography started many, many years ago from a christmas gift, a Olympus mju-600 digital camera. This was a great little camera and served me quite well, though I didn't capture much more than snapshots with it. I picked up a second hand Fujifilm FinePix S5600 as an upgrade as I was keen to learn how to take good photographs. I had some success, learning how to shoot in manual mode and exploting (the Fuji's limited) RAW format capabilities. That slowly morphed into transitioning to a digitial SLR in the Olympus E-520 and a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6. This is where I finally fell in love with photography, and where I could be really creative, especially expanding out to legacy lenses like the OM system 50mm f/1.8 and OM system 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6. Sadly university pressures soon put a stop to my photography hobby in 2012.

Photographic equipment

More recently, after moving through many different cameras and lenses, I've forayed back into the hobby.

  • Canon EOS 6D Mark II The workhorse. Most of my photos are captured on this camera, as my style revolves around street photography, stock imagery, and capturing usual everyday things in ways they're not often thought about.
  • Canon EOS 7D Mark II The nose-y speed freak. Sometimes I needed to capture fast things and unfortunately the 6D Mark II just couldn't keep up with some of it, so I welcomed a second-hand 7D Mark II to the family. It's 'nose-y' owing to the APS-C crop-factor which the focal length of all of my lenses longer, and a 'speed freak' because of how quick it focuses and captures photos in high-speed drive at 10-frames-per-second. It's like a machine gun!
