Rustam Kamsky

I see you deleted Rustam Kamsky as an attack page. Since I didn't notice this, I assume this was a speedy deletion without discussion. I would like to contest this. It is not an attack page. Rustam Kamsky's behaviour (and apologies for it) has been dicussed on Reliable sources, is an important part of the biography of his son Gata Kamsky (a world class chess player), and I believe it should not be expunged from Wikipedia. Peter Ballard (talk) 00:50, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

It was two sentences, one of which was nothing more than a personal attack which seriously violated WP:BLP. Being related to someone notable doesn't confer notability upon him. Feel free to take it to deletion review but I have no intention of undeleting that article myself. IrishGuy talk 01:02, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your participation in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate that landed on WP:100, but ultimately was deemed a successful declaration of consensus, and I am now an admin. I definitely paid close attention to everything that was said in the debate, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. I'm working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school, carefully double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools, with my main goals being to help out with various backlogs. I sincerely doubt you'll see anything controversial coming from my new access level. :) I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are a few more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status. If you do ever have any concerns about my activities as an administrator, I encourage you to let me know. My door is always open. Have a good new year, --Elonka 04:05, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Ghost (producer)

Hello irishguy, i noticed you made an edit to this page a couple of months ago, i was curious to know if you were a fan of this artist? Gazh (talk) 09:28, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

No. I simply found the page through another wikilink and gave it a minor cleanup. IrishGuy talk 18:00, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Why can I not create a page for Musion Eyeliner when there is interesting history to the company, and there is an un-used link from the Gorillaz page? There is no blatant advertising on the page, just a brief history of the company. What makes it any different from Coca-Cola having a page(s)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by TimMimsy (talkcontribs) 23:58, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Considering you are recreating an article originally written by now blocked Gemzar, you are engaging in sockpuppetry to evade your block. Stop. IrishGuy talk 00:00, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Musion Eyeliner Deletion

Does this then mean, that no such article can ever exist, even if it's been cleaned up? It would be a shame to out right ban articles just for one persons foul up. Up to you though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TimMimsy (talkcontribs) 00:08, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

That one person is you. Stop evading your block or I will block this new account as well. IrishGuy talk 00:11, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

You recently refused an unblock request from Jlomcc2 for being a sock puppet of Jlomcc. Jlomcc3 now also exists. I guess that this is another sock puppet. If possible, could you not remove the unblock offer from the original account as I feel this user could become constrictive. I have no objection to the blocking of Jlomcc3. Thank you for your time. Tiddly-Tom 06:59, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Spamming?

Thanks for your comment. Many of the changes I made last night referred to the latest issue of the International Socialism journal (a not-for-profit and now open source journal which has been appearing for about 50 years). This issue has just become available online.

With two exceptions (the article on "neoliberalism" and the talk page of "happiness") all of the changes were to articles discussing issues directly related to the Marxist left (the main focus of the journal).

The changes include improvements to, clarifications of and external reading matter directly related to these articles. Where appropriate I have referenced the original material included in the latest issue of the journal.

For instance, including a link to a major review of Benedict Anderson's Imagined Communities, written by Neil Davidson, a prize-winning author and well known scholar in the field, is, I would argue, an improvement to the wikipedia article rather than spam. The changes I made to the article on Respect—the Unity Coalition included the removal of unverified, irrelevant and POV-based material, as well as adding a reference to a major article on the recent crisis in this organisation. The work on the United Front article involved a substantial rewrite of an inaccurate, unreferenced and unhelpful article. Hopefully this will provide a basis for future editors to improve the article.

Please do let me know if there are specific changes that you have a problem with and I will try to rectify them. Piquant (talk) 12:30, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: Ceinture Fléchée

Regarding this I disagree with the block for spamming as User:Ceinture Fléchée had indeed listed a site that was list on a Government of Canada Department-affiliated website. Yes, the site is hosted by Geocites, but if a Government is willing to list it, maybe we should allow that site... nat.utoronto 20:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Did you check the article edit history? At bare minimum he was edit warring. Look at all the ignored warnings on the talk page. IrishGuy talk 20:23, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
lol...edit warring with a BOT...(maybe we should block the BOT for 3RR...lmao :P)...those warnings were from a bot and they were for spamming (although that reasoning may be dubious)...nat.utoronto 20:28, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Never mind about the mention of "spamming" above. nat.utoronto 20:30, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
And when someone continually write "LOL I blanked this article" and it is reverted by a bot there is no edit warring? IrishGuy talk 20:31, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
???...i didn't say that CF wasn't edit warring. nat.utoronto 20:36, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
You said: lol...edit warring with a BOT. The "LOL" meant you were in agreement? IrishGuy talk 20:39, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't understand what you're trying to ask me...nat.utoronto 20:38, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Aye. nat.utoronto 20:46, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

In case you didn't look at the result of reverting the edit by User:Flyin' blind in the Dr. Seuss article, you should probably check it since the current version has editing issues. Perhaps you could consider reverting yourself and removing the warning from User:Flyin' blind's talk page, if it was for his Dr. Seuss edit. –panda (talk) 01:17, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Flyin' blind was a single purpose account that was blindly reverting to bad versions of articles with false edit summaries. He has been blocked. IrishGuy talk 01:19, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I didn't look at that editor's other edits. Thanks for reverting the Dr. Seuss article. –panda (talk) 01:21, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

I only changed the sentence "German Americans are EVEN higher in number than Irish Americans" by deleting "even", because I think this word is useless and/or POV. so I thank your for your comment by I think it is not necessary.195.243.51.34 (talk) 09:28, 9 January 2008 (UTC) - Sorry I have just seen that you meant my changes in the article Dr. Seuss. Well, "Sieg" means victory in German an Le is "the" in French. It is clear that Dr. Seuss did know this because he knew German and he made his pseudonym having a sense. 195.243.51.34 (talk) 09:40, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy for Adelphia (fancies)

As you speedied Adelphia (fancies) yesterday[1], I am notifying you that I am recreating the article.

Your summary (based on the nom) was "(CSD A7 (Band): Article about a band that does not assert significance)". (While this is not a band, the point is moot.) The new version includes the sources from the original and others. Reliable, secondary sources include Philadelphia Daily News, About.com, Philadelphia Magazine, Courier-Post and Associated Press.

I am also alerting User:CastAStone who nomed the original.

Mdsummermsw (talk) 15:38, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm still borderline on notability, but the Philly Daily News coverage and the About.com coverage definitely are substantive Reliable Sources. Someone from Philadelphia besides Mdsummermsw would help. If you want to AfD, ok, but I'm neutral at this point.--CastAStone//(talk) 15:50, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey irish guy, I was editing a page marked for speedy deletion and I guess I didn't make in time. Is there a way to fix this.

It doesn't meet WP:EL. IrishGuy talk 17:37, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

"Fan site" on House of Pain/Everlast page

The everlastworld.de Fansite you are trying to remove fits WP:EL. "Sites that contain neutral and accurate material that cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to copyright issues, amount of detail (such as professional athlete statistics, movie or television credits, interview transcripts, or online textbooks) or other reasons." and "Sites with other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article, such as reviews and interviews." are basically descriptions of that site. The Little Mermaid III: Ariel's Beginning

Was wondering if you could provide me with any more specific details about the infringement issue with the article as I want to correct it. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out what's wrong. I've poured over the articles on wiki about putting together a proper article but either I missed something or am just stupid and shouldn't be doing this to begin with. If the issue is a credible source, I don't know how to get any more credible than that Disney itself who is now selling the DVD online. Sorry for making more work for you.

Ariella24 (talk) 02:45, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

The article is just a cut and paste listing DVD details as would be printed on a DVD box. IrishGuy talk 02:48, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

I see how the DVD features is considered that now, but it sounds like you mean the whole thing. Clearly I am too stupid to be doing this. lol I'll go back to writing my children's books and let others do wiki. Thanks for your swift response. Ariella24 (talk) 02:53, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Comic Guaranty LLC

So, what's the appropriate warning template or next step for this guy? [2] --GentlemanGhost (talk) 19:55, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm so sorry that I didn't know adding links to redroom.com would be considered spam. My experience with Wikipedia as a user led me to believe that official sites were an important thing to add. As someone working on this literary community project, I was excited to share this resource with Wikipedia users. I am aware of the no-follow policy, I didn't undertake this to get redroom.com search hits. The site was created because of lack of author web presence and reliable information about them. We're all on the same team - sharing accurate information.

Redroom.com is not an unauthorized listing site - the authors who are the subject of these Wikipedia articles are the people writing and editing those linked redroom.com profiles. I would have added actual information from the linked pages to enrich the wiki-article, but I don't have the authorization to do that. I understand that would have been seen as a conflict of interest, but I didn't realize that adding relevant links would be viewed this way too. I will now only use the discussion pages to suggest information from/about Red Room. Please let me know if you'd like any further information about the site. I think it deserves a disambiguation listing as well as an article, notable by Wikipedia standards as it has been covered in depth by the San Francisco Chronicle and Red Herring Technology News. And, most importantly, it would also be a helpful resource for Wikipedia editors. Huntington (talk) 22:45, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, you actually reverted what I am trying to avoid. I just got so tired of all the BS that I went in and sourced the hell out of everything. Clearly, the controversy section (for a public figure) has to have more than a single source. Otherwise it is an attack page and violates the POV. The guy has contributed nothing to the page expect constantly inserting one bias, unsourced and poorly written claim. Would really, really appreciate your help in taking this from a shitty, biased page into something acceptable.

TheRegicider (talk) 19:58, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi Irish Guy.

I just joined Wikipedia (sorry, new I know).

I realise that Wikipedia is advertising free and relates to information for education and research.

I have created a non for profit website that is free from advertising, called www.Irishamericanstoryproject.com

The website is to collect short stories of Irish and Irish Americans and hopefully it will be a useful resource for collecting stories relating to Irish American culture. I am not doing this to increase SEO or any other reason, it just to let people who have interest in Irish American culture know that it exists and they may find the website of interest.

Anyway, check out the website.

What I was trying to add was the website as an external link. Can you allow this website to be added ?

Thanks,

Brian —Preceding unsigned comment added by Irishamericanstoryproject (talkcontribs) 00:40, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Please read the conflict of interest guidelines. Using Wikipedia to promote your own website is not allowed. IrishGuy talk 01:07, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Irish Guy. To clarify (and I respect the rules of Wikipedia)

On the External Links for Irish American, there is a link for Irish Bars in New York, full of advertising, this site is allowed, note I do not want it removed I'm just discussing the difference between what acceptable and not acceptable. So an external link to Irish bars is acceptable, however an external link which is not for profit and free from advertising, which is for Irish Storytelling is not acceptable. The reason that it is not acceptable is because the stories are not verifiable, where as a website listing irish bars is verifiable. Is that the reason ?

Just want to check ?

Thanks & I know this is a hard job policing all the content, but I just want to understand for future reference. Irishamericanstoryproject (talk) 01:33, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

As it is your own website, it is a conflict of interest for you to be adding it. Not to offend, but a website that has exactly five posts isn't exactly notable. IrishGuy talk 02:15, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Irish Guy, point taken....however it is not for profit and has only just started, so yes there are only 5 posts, however that should increase over time, and with a wikipedia link that number of 5 would increase. Possibly when there is more stories you may consider it. Its related to Irish American so viewers may find it of relevance.

regards

IASP71 (talk) 00:18, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

note, this relates to the above, not spamming below

The problem is that if the site needs Wikipedia to become more relevant...it isn't relevant enough to be on Wikipedia. Not yet, at least. It may in the future but at that point you would still have a conflict of interest in adding it yourself. Instead, you should suggest it on the article talk page and other more neutral editors can decide whether or not it belongs. IrishGuy talk 01:22, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

spamming?

I hardly consider adding an educational and informative link about an unpublished biography relating to Beverly Garland as "spamming" but as you are an Administrator I wish to draw to your attention that Wikipedia is not used for advertising or promotional purposes, therefore may I question why there is an external link to Ms Garland's professional hotel business and you have not removed that, or is there one rule for me and another for everyone else? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fngell (talkcontribs) 17:17, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Your edit are only to add your own websites to numerous articles. That is spamming and a conflict of interest. Wikipedia is not a venue for you to promote your websites. Please stop. IrishGuy talk 17:20, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
