From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Why did you archive the material I mentioned about the Central Asian archaeology? I'll restore it,. Anyway, in a few weeks there is a Wikipedia:GLAM/BL/IDP to do with the British Museum. The focus will be on Central Asian archaeology. I was envisaging some articles like Archaeology of Turkmenistan and for the other Central Asian countries and archaeological sites of Central Asia timed around this event. There is a site called Door to Hell too near Derweze which looks interesting.

I was trying to give you some pointers and to improve your quality of writing. You are not a man who takes criticism lightly my friend. OK, now seems like a good time to write a full article on Marrakech. Something I've been meaning to do for a few years. One of Africa's most important cities. I've whittled it to 8.5kb to start a 5 x expansion. I'll use my Morocco DK source for starters. I've put the former info in User:Dr. Blofeld/Marrakech. This is an article I intend to take to GA at some point. Honiara I will prepare for GA soon but Marrakech is one of those articles with a fascinating cities and a top importance wikipedia article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:40, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Mosque, I'll take Rosie's word for it on the lack of sources. Have you finished on the Turkish mosque you started? I'll start an article structure on Marrakech this evening. Darn I thought I had a book on Morocco, my sister has it not me, I have Tunisia. Will have to ask her to borrow it. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:55, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Khalid ibn Al-Walid Mosque - I've given it some attention. Unfortunately, I didn't have time for anything else tonight. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:52, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Hassan II Mosque

[edit]

Graeme Bartlett (talk) 16:01, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

There you go, top DYK already! Well done! Some citation tags needed at the bottom two sections though, can you add them?♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:05, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Great work on this article folks! I visited there about 3 years ago--really an awe-inspiring piece of architecture. Mark Arsten (talk) 20:52, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Sure, I'll look at it today. Thankyou for adding citations. One thing though, I'm going to propose to extend the DYK viability deadline to 10 days. A more relaxed deadline would save a last minute rush to nom and might see improvements to prose. I am about to propose on DYK talk page, your comments would be appreciated there too, and Rosie's.♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:45, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Khalid ibn Al-Walid Mosque, beautiful! Major improvement in quality Nvv, well focused, clear and easy to read, keep it up!♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:56, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

We need to add more etxt to make it 5x.Nvvchar

Thanks for taking care of that. I'll be back online either later tonight or tomorrow. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:41, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Khalid ibn Al-Walid Mosque - It's about 500 ch too short at present. I'll see what I can do. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:16, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Koutoubia Mosque

[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Koutoubia Mosque at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Soman (talk) 16:11, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Hairstyles in the 1950s

[edit]

In your DYK nomination of the article Hairstyles in the 1950s there is a problem with the hook. Please respond at the nomination page. You could suggest an alternative hook which is better referenced. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:40, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

When you are about to save click the blue pencil icon next to P above the edit page. That should sign your name!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:06, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

"75 million cum " in Door to Hell? you sure that's not a missing extract from the blue whale penis LOL? Is cum a unit or something?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:04, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Since the article is about natural gas reserves it obviously is 75 million cubic metere (MCM).--Nvvchar. 14:41, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Not that obvious! You might find more for Streets in Gibraltar. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:10, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Door to Hell - Dr. B and Char, please see my edit summaries regarding rmv 3 blog references. We can't use these types of refs; sorry. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:01, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Ok, I figured it out. It appears that Tony wants a citation for this sentence, "The Heritage Trust of Baroda lists 114 monuments in the area of which only 39 monuments are maintained by the Archeological Survey of India, due to limited funding." That fact is stated but unsourced in both Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park and Monuments of Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park. When I google Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park + 114 + 39, this is what I found so I was unable to add a citation myself. Next, I went through the edit history of Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park and found that you added that fact on September 27th, but without a nearby inline citation so I'm unclear which source you were looking at (hopefully not touristlink.com LOL). Can you please review, add the appropriate inline ref if you can find it, or remove the content from both articles? Thx --Rosiestep (talk) 04:39, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Re: Honiara, I didn't work on that one except for one wlink. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:49, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Don't worry about the Gibraltar article now, the Gibraltarpedia folk are on the case. With a bit of work Hassan mosque might pass GA.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:09, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Champaner-Pavagadh - For some reason I can't see pages 88-98 anymore in this book: Ruggles, D. Fairchild; Silverman, Helaine (2009). Intangible Heritage Embodied. I suggest that you add your comment (the one you left on my talkpage) to the nom page plus the ALT1. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:50, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Blogs

[edit]

Hi Char, There were 4 blog citations in Door to Hell. Yesterday, I removed 3 of them and their content, and explained each removal in edit summaries. There's one more that needs to be removed, oilrig101.com. (Its website specifically states "Follow Blog via Email. Enter your email address to follow this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email.") As oilrig101.com is referenced 4 times in the article, I'm not sure how to remove the content, and deal appropriately with copyediting. If you have time in the next day or so, please handle this, or I can over the weekend. These wlinks may be helpful: WP:SOURCES and WP:NEWSBLOG. Thx --Rosiestep (talk) 02:12, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Have a wonderful, fantastic, great time on the East coast! --Rosiestep (talk) 02:15, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, Rosie. I do not think I will be able to edit Door to Hell before Monday evening. Right now I am trying to reply to another three article Hook which is pending for a long time. If it is not difficult, I would appreciate your editing the Door to Hell article and post it on DYK. Even if it is not posted on DYK it does not matter. I have now posted the reply on the Champaner articles on the DYK.--Nvvchar. 02:21, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

I will try to add more tomorrow. I am still in Florida. I will return to San Diego on 21st October. Can you make this Mehtab Bagh, Agra to 5x for DYK if it is not already done. I do not know the toll to check the word count?--Nvvchar. 23:46, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, will copyedit tomorrow, not really active on here today.Shinsarugakuki and Izena Island might also interest you. Izena is an island of the Ryukyu Islands which one of you might like to start.Or/and a five times expansion of Miyako-jima for our Ryukyu Islands entity entry or whatever takes your fancy! Me must do more work on islands and points from the Sea of Okhotsk down to Palau, I realised its one of the few areas geographically I know extremely poorly.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:07, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

I reverted back on Izena, not a copyvio, from a wikipedia article originally, so long as its fleshed out and sourced of course. Been expanding Marrakech today, coming on nicely. Can you add a section on the cuisine and restaurants. Needs info on what sort of food is sold on the square/Berber cuisine and a summary of the notable restaurants and cafes. The Humphrys 2010 sources mentions a few restaurants as do a lot of the other sources, as long as it doesn't seem too tourist guide like it will be fine. Also the culture section could do with an initial paragraph looking at it generally. I've asked Rosie to try to dig up some recent history.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:10, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Izena Island, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.thefullwiki.org/Izena,_Okinawa.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

I am surprised. It is from this source [1]]. I was trying to fix the refences from the official werefrence given as external before the bot came out with this remark. Please this Izena w a Wikipedia article.--Nvvchar. 01:38, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Its a wiki mirror Nvv, ignore it. I'm eyeing up Varanasi, a complete rewrite like Marrakech, its mostly unsourced. I say cut to almost nothing move the existing material to your sandbox and gradually readd and write and source it properly. What do you think? Maybe we could do a series of temples along with it or something.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:35, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I've nomed Almindingen, Dueodde, Dueodde Lighthouse, Hammeren, Jons Kapel, Paradisbakkerne, Rytterknægten at dyk. To celebrate our 4 way collaboration, it's time for a "Bornholm lunch", though it seems like a lot of food and may not be to everyone's taste. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:56, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

I'm working on the 7 Bornholm hook; should have it figured out tonight. Will first add appropriate sentence/refs to each article to tie them together. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:36, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Been busy today elsewhere. I've given Varanasi the chop and moved it to your user space. It needs to be completely rewritten and sourced from scratch and it makes it much easier to wipe it clean. Text can gradually be added from User:Nvvchar/Varanasi when its been improved and sourced properly of course.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 19:25, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Mmm, having problems with Anbu121 who keeps reverting, I will find is extremely difficult to edit it in its current condition as I'm sure Rosie would and wouldn't qualify for a DYK. Maybe some of the other Indian wikipedians how know of our work will saying something. Probably best to leave Varanasi for the moment.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:59, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

"UNESCO Monumnet in Tamildau" - would love to work on these! --Rosiestep (talk) 03:07, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes, most interesting. Suffering wikiheadache at the moment, looking through Pakistan and India categories doesn't help, most of them would be better off deleted and restarted with half decent text. They deserve better than this. If we could clone you x 10,000 we might get somewhere!I'm not happy with the Marrakech treatment, I have made a proposal on the DYK talk page to reduce the CORE/Top importance articles to x 2 expansion and sound sourcing as 5 times is impossible for most of them and it discourages editors from focusing on the most important articles because of it. Knowing the wiki though it'll probably get a mixed support and oppose as normal. I despair at times, I really do.... Where are we with the noms, have you nommed Izena and the Costa Rica article? I'll edit those shortly.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:53, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

I'll return Monday, go ahead and nom Izena and anything else, will edit anything you nom befroe it hits front page no worries. You and Rosie night find more on Xu Xusheng.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 22:20, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Nice one both! Go ahead and nom Izena Island once you've added citations where needed. I created a map of the local islands, if I have time later I'll make a map of the island itself. We definitely need to cover this poorly part of the world better. On the Costa Rica article now, but I wanted to do some articles likes Archaeology in Turkmenistan over the next few days.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 11:37, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Tortuguero National Park, given a copyedit, feel free to nom, looks like you covered the important stuff, lots of red links though.. See Marrakech now! I think split will be needed and then condense before GA nom, the architectural details should be cut back too.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:20, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Xu Xusheng: nom & QPQ done. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:09, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

Regarding your question about Wondermondo.com... Here the Wondermondo website owner and author, Gatis Pavils, states, "As this is an extended personal site - the descriptions are personal as well, with more or less uniform quality. Most of the sites described here have not been visited by the author and he has relied on information prepared by others. As this is not a scientific work, I have not used extensive reference notes. If you happen to find inaccurate facts - please, let me know!" So I wouldn't use it as an article ref, but please let me know your thoughts. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:37, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

Nice one. You and Nvv might find more for William P. Didusch Center for Urologic History, Crisco requested it.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 12:02, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

I've completed my edits to William P. Didusch Center for Urologic History. Will look at Sittanavasal Cave next. I'll be in and out today. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:37, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

Sittanvasal Cave. Help. I see that Sittanvasal is a village (I made an article about the hamlet), but is it also the name of a hill? Is Ezhadippattam a cavern (where the paintings are located)? --Rosiestep (talk) 18:06, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

What is Ezhadippattam? (This is in the Geography section: "The Jain natural caverns, called Ezhadippattam are approached from the foothills.") --Rosiestep (talk) 18:23, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

Thank you; now I understand. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:30, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

I was planning to write on this Thirunadhikkara Cave Temple but hardly any web references (except Wondermondo0 and no book references. Please see if you can find some good refrences to expand this article.--Nvvchar. 07:03, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Thirunadhikkara Cave Temple - My first thought is, perhaps there's an alternate spelling? I tweaked 2 of the article's refs, but none of the current 3 are quality refs so I didn't rmv the ref tag; it is appropriate. I found this from a reputable website, a large newspaper, but there's only one sentence, "The oldest murals of Kerala are found in the Thirunandikkara Cave temple, now, a part of Kanyakumari district of the neighbouring state of Tamilnadu." Wasn't sure how to incorporate it into the article (What is the correct way of saying that the oldest murals of Kerala aren't located in Kerala; they are in Tamilnadu?). I googled this and I think there may be a few good bits here which I'll work on now. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:17, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Edit conflict... let me know when you have stopped editing this article. Thx --Rosiestep (talk) 17:31, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

No worries! I'll go back to it in a bit. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:57, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

I'd drop Thirunadhikkara Cave Temple if sources can't be found. No use bloating it with info on a form of painting just to get it over DYK length.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:48, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Nom, Oluf Høst Museum, unless Rosie can add something.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:09, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Created Template:Marrakesh. I'm going through the article first blue linking articles, you and Rosie might be interested in expanding Patrick Guerrand-Hermès ‎, Aïn Kassimou, David Prescott Barrows, Battle of Sidi Bou Othman, Cadi Ayyad University.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 22:20, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Thirunadhikkara Cave Temple - I've tried to find more but with this spelling, I can't find enough to work up the article to dyk quality, i.e. quality refs. Let's move on from this one. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:00, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

I'm going to ce Sittanavasal Cave and Sittanavasal right now. Note, I'm going to rmv Ezhadippattam, Navach-chunai, and Megalithic sites from Sittanavasal Cave as they aren't part of the cave. I see that you've included that info in the village article, which I agree is the place where it belongs. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:59, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Ok; understand about Sitt Cave and Sitt village. Will work on Oluf Høst next, and then the Marrakech seven. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:32, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I added an ALT1, a double nom: ... that the Sittanavasal Cave, a 7th century Jain temple, includes images (pictured) painted in fresco-secco technique? --Rosiestep (talk) 03:59, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. Today I've been improving Varanasi, the earlier difficult situation seems to have settled now. It badly needs Cityscape info on all its spectacular temples and ghats etc. I was thinking if you could create a Landmarks of Varanasi as comprehensive and detailed as possible that would allow us to write a condensed version of it in the main article once done. Let me know what you think, the landmarks article should be hugely enjoyable. If you could closely follow the sfn note system for books, no books listed in the references this would be great. Varanasi might be considered a special city to you Nvv? I would hope you would be willing to help improve it, even if it isn't a DYK. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 19:06, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Nvv, please get out of the habit of relying on tourism type websites as a starter point to write your articles, they affect quality. Sittanavasal Cave shows up quite a few very decent scholarly type sources which should always be first port of call for researching articles. I'd rather see the articles using a quite a lot of books rather than a handful of online websites with little intellectual authority and see multiple citations to them. Please get into the habit of looking in google books first and use the ref maker tool and then look at websites as an after thought, or at least use websites as a start for writing info and then ransack google books to support them instead. It really makes a difference to quality and the research quality of our articles. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 22:07, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

". On March 7, 2006, bombs planted by terrorists exploded at Sankatmochan Temple and the railway station, killing at least 28 people and injuring over 100 people." That you mean?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 22:46, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

I added that about 4 o clock this afternoon, you must have missed it, could use some more detail though..♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 23:02, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

I am stumped. Why include the Travel through Morocco section at all in the David Prescott Barrows article? I think it should be deleted in its entirety from this article. Perhaps move it into a new article about the book, "Berbers And Blacks: Impressions Of Morocco, Timbuktu And The Western Sudan"? --Rosiestep (talk) 04:01, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Ok, I'll split it out tomorrow, if someone doesn't beat me to it, as I'm pretty tired now. Wow! Six hours! You are dedicated, Char! I saw that you were working on; I'll get on that tomorrow, too. But with tomorrow being Halloween, my time may be limited with RL activities with fam and neighbors. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:20, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes, move the travelogue info the an article on the book but ensure its written encyclopedically, at present it looks like its copied from the book. You and Rosie might find more on Myopia in animals and Eagle eyes. Honiara should be OK now. Go ahead and nom any of the Morocco articles.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:02, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

I've removed the travelogue from the David Barrows biography. Regarding the Marrakesh articles... yes individual noms are fine if they can't be tied together. Sorry for not getting anything else done here tonight. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:01, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Two cites needed for Battle of Sidi Bou Othman, one will form hook. Nommed the uni although might still be a little short dunno. Rosie can nom Barrows when ready? ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld

On Pleyte, I think the best remedy would be for you to make your nom into a redirect into the 3 way from a few days ago. Then add your name, if you haven't done so already, to the 3 way. Have fam visiting so busy in RL right now. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:15, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. Varanasi landmarks like ghats and temples could do with some paragraphs and of course improvements to the culture section, better coverage of the festivals and ritual customs. [edit]

Thanks for your kind note - I am thrilled with how the article is looking now and that you have recommended it for a DYK. Unfortunately, my health is not good - nothing fatal - but I am slowly becoming more and more crippled and am in constant pain unless I regularly take my very strong medications like a good boy! However, I usually manage to get a couple of hours in on my laptop most days. I have a wonderful little table (like the ones on castor wheels that they have in hospital to feed you from) that holds my laptop in a comfortable position while I work on it in bed (where, unfortunately, I now spend most of my time). I am trying to finish my huge annotated translation of the 3rd century Weilüe and get it ready for publication. I keep receiving more and more books and articles and have to keep rewriting old sections and writing new ones to my notes and appendices. This is why I have been spending so little time on WP. I just wish I had more good alert hours each day as I would love to be contributing more to WP.

The only article I have created recently is a short one on the Wild Bactrian camel. I was going to propose it for a DYK but then I had a few bad days and, I think, it is now too late. It also needs some information on the massive Lop Nur Reserve that has fortunately been set up to protect them before I will be satisfied with it.

Thank you so much for you very many outstanding contributions to WP and making so many interesting things easily accessible to all. It is a great public service - you should be very proud.

I do hope you and yours are well and happy. Cheers and all best wishes, John Hill (talk) 23:05, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Nvvchar, I've run across two reviews so far today that are unsigned, and when I checked them, it appears that you were the reviewer. Could you please recheck your recent reviews to make sure they are all signed, and if not, please sign them. When I look for articles to promote, I don't feel I can do so when a reviewer was unwilling to sign his or her name to a review. Thank you very much. Also, please be sure to make sure the hook makes grammatical sense; I had to query one where the hook simply wasn't good English. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:25, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Happy Dhantrayodashi. I have moved the article as Dev Deepawali denotes Kartik Poornima and merging common info to festival article and retaining only Varanasi related info here. You already have developed the article and most of useful facts are already there. I will copyedit it and minor cleanup, but nominate as your nom on DYK. Varanasi does not qualify for DYK (5x) currently. Expanding it more without WP:UNDUE is difficult. May be the Shakti Peetha, Varanasi or Kashi Vishwanath is a better article to bring to DYK. If you like, I would like to collaborate on these Redtigerxyz Talk 12:53, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I will starrt on your suggested topics. I thought of Amalaka Ekadashi also.--Nvvchar. 17:37, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
That's a good idea. Actually all red links in Ekadashi need to be filled and are notable. Putrada, Nirlajala, Mokshada, Kamada are also famous, besides Shayani, Prabodhana, Vaikuntha which already have articles. Can start in full swing only after Diwali. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:59, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
Cleaned up the Deva Deepavali article a little. a hook something like "... that about 1,00,000 people visit Varanasi today to see the city and the Ganges lit with lamps?" is possible. Please nominate if you like it. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:52, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
It is ok to post the arati. However, for accuracy, it should be noted for not on that day. Also, there is only 1 shakti peetha in Varanasi - Vishalaksh. However, whether an ear ring or eye fell is disputed. The former seems to be more popular. She is also called Manikarni(ka). --Redtigerxyz Talk 18:19, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
Done with Amalaka. Please nominate for DYk. --Redtigerxyz Talk 18:38, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

That is a great barnstar -- thank you so much! Neanderthal Museum -- I'll work on it today. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:56, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Chunar Fort - working on it now. Question: It's clear to me that the 3rd legend in the article refers to the fort itself, but regarding the first 2 legends, do both pertain specifically to the fort, vs. to Chunar town? --Rosiestep (talk) 16:11, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Ok, but for clarification, can you re-word so that to the casual reader, it's clear that legend1 and legend2 refer to Chunar Fort, versus Chunar Hill (I realize there isn't an article on the hill... at least not yet), or Chunar Town? Or maybe make the observation that Chunar Fort and its hill are one and the same? As it wasn't clear to me, it may not be to someone else. Thx! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:26, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Neanderthal Museum - I don't think this one is suitable for dyk as it relies heavily on "Official Website of Neanderthal Musuem" (12 of the 13 refs). --Rosiestep (talk) 04:41, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Yes, Neanderthal Museum, is a nice article; I do agree. However, one of the official or unofficial rules (there are so many rules these days, I can't keep track of all of them) is relying unduly on one source, especially if that source is the article's official website. (Ping.) --Rosiestep (talk) 05:02, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

1-21 Cornwall Terrace - I gave it a ce but did not rmv the tag from the article, nor did I comment at the dyk. One of the issues addressed at dyk about the article is that the refs don't always match up with the prose; as you're more familiar with the article than I am, you'd be better suited to do that double-checking. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:45, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

DYK - Articles and hooks that focus unduly on negative aspects of living individuals ... should be avoided

[edit]

As far as I can tell, no-one has informed you that your approval of the hook eventually used for Alcohol enema at DYK, and the article itself, were subsequently discussed at Wikipedia talk:Did you know and also WP:BLPN, given the DYK requirement that "Articles and hooks that focus unduly on negative aspects of living individuals should be avoided". So this is just a notice and a reminder of that. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 22:32, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Apologies, apologies - but I have been not well and, thus, not on Wikipedia for a few days. Thank you so much for your kind help on the Wild Bactrian camel article - it is a far better article now - but I just haven't been able to get it together to apply for a DYK - which is a great shame. And thanks to User Rosiestep - I will certainly look at what magic you have done to South Turkmenistan Complex Archaeological Expedition. You are really are a Wiki star and your work is always of the very highest quality. Hello Mr. NWchar, nice to see you back (although i have never talked to you before , i was impressed with your contribution) , please have a look at Kempe Gowda I article , which i took the information from your text in talk page. Shrikanthv (talk) 07:15, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Great article. I'll do some work on it today/tomorrow, and will then nom it. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:48, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I'm working through the article. I'm trying to figure out how some of the content relates to the archaeological expeditions. For example, the Namazgadepe paragraph... who was the expedition leader, or which Brigade, or which year(s); the ref for it, #6, is a student's write-up of lecture notes (hosted on a drumming website), don't know where the lecture even. I still couldn't find how the info in the lecture ties together with STACE. Maybe I'm missing it? Or is there a more proper ref (book or journal) that links STACE with the content in the Namazgadepe paragraph? --Rosiestep (talk) 15:14, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

STACE began in 1946; did you see anything about when it ended? --Rosiestep (talk) 15:58, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind words; I'm almost done with STACE and will by noming it tonight. No, I haven't heard of these festivals, but I would be happy to learn more about them by working on such articles. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:00, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

IMO, we should redirect and merge Shakti Peetha, Varanasi into Vishalakshi Temple. More accurate. Will take a look tomorrow. " I tried to start this article but a warning that an article ... " which article are you talking about? Shakti Peetha, Varanasi is created. Confused???? --Redtigerxyz Talk 18:36, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

About Putrada Ekadashi, 2 ekadashis are called Putrada: shravana and Pausha. Shravana one is also known as Pavitra or Pavitropana or Shravana Putrada ekadashi. Pausha one is known Putrada or Pausha Putrada. So for Shravana Putrada, let us create Pavitropana Ekadashi for Shravana and Putrada Ekadashi for Pausha. Ok??? I starting Nirjala Ekadashi till then. Also, let me know about the merge so will work on Vishalakshi accordingly. --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:22, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
We can manually merge the article and then request Wikipedia:History merge. I am not sure if it will be approved or not in this case. For Putrada, IMO create 2 articles as 2 different days. Tell me if you still face the article creation problem. IMO, one may not have an user right. What user rights you have? I compare them with mine and let you know which one you are missing. I have started Nirlaja currently. Will go to others after that, starting from Varanasi temple (oldest). --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:47, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Created Putrada Ekadashi. Check in "My preferences" (User Profile). Mine is "Member of groups:Autoconfirmed users, Autopatrolled, File movers, Reviewers, Rollbackers, Users". Which one are you missing? --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:02, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
As I said, click on "My preferences" link which appears on top right of the wiki page and then see the entries against the field "Member of groups" in the User profile tab to find what rights you have, else you have to apply for them. Will give you links, where you need to apply. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:21, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

I hope you had a good flight. I will complete Vimala Temple today and possibly nominate for DYK. I am thinking that Vimala carrying a mermaid is interesting. Do you see a better hook? Then Mokshda and then Kamada. Takes me at least a day for each. For Hinglaj Mata, found some references [2], [3], [4], [5]. --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:26, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
Done with Vimala article. However, I prefer Indian/British English (worshipped) instead of American (worshiped) for Indian articles. I think we should nominate for GA too. Nominating for DYK. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:12, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

Ghana festivals

[edit]

Thanks for what you did to all 3 Ashante festivals. I need to clarify in my mind when does the Adae Kese occur (once every five years vs. it's the 9th Adae, with each adae lasting 42 days)? I'll sort it out within the next day, and will do some ce. Also, the Ada Festival img corresponds to the Asafotufiami festival so I removed it, but let me know if you think I'm wrong. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:20, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

Suggestion for photo for Vimala temple

Cluster of temples south of Jagannath temple, including the Vimala temple

Vimala Temple

[edit]

I noted some inaccuracies about Jagannath.

  1. Jagannath is traditionally considered Avataree or the cause of all avatars and not an avatar. Attempts to identify him as an avatar are recent in origin and highly contreversial.
  2. The Jagannath triad as Brahma , Vishnu,Shiva is contreversial in the way suggested. Jagannath alone is considered all 3 in one. The triad has many explainations of which the Buddhist Triratna and latter addition of Balabhadra and Subhadra to appease various cults are more accepted. Verier alwin has suggested the triad are actually tribal Gods 2 brothers and sisters worshipped together

I have made some minor edits to remove these contreversies sids (talk) 13:28, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

  • I saw Hinglaj mata this morning. Keep up the good work. There is some overlap with the article Hinglaj.I have assesed Vimala Temple as B Class for now. Hope you make it GA class soon. Important Shaktipeethas in Bangladesh are crying for attention : Bhabanipur Shaktipeeth, Chandranath Temple, Shri Shail. I am stationed in bangalore.Presently I am working on the article Jagannath which is in a huge mess. there are no references in most of it. Much of the philosophy and many concepts are not adequately represented. If you could spare some time , I could do with the help.

sids (talk) 10:25, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

  • Shivaharkaray another Shaktipeeth in Pakistan is an orphan stub . If all the scholarly works are dreary take a break and read Bahuchara Mata

Done and nominated. Can you please fill the QPQ? Filled the QPQ for Mokshada. Moving to other Ekadashi then Hinglaj. I am thinking on a Tulsi in Hinduism covering the goddess, legends, worship, Tulsi beads, Tulsi leaves in Vaishnava worship, importance as main article for "In Hinduism" section in Tulsi Redtigerxyz Talk 19:19, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Have requested Mokshada for DYK on December 23 (Mokshada this time). Can remove request if you don't want to wait for the DYK. --Redtigerxyz Talk 07:48, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
No luck on Varuthini or the Kavirpur (Pak) shakti pitha. Can't find anything. Also, Vamana is not worshipped on Varuthini. He is worshipped in Bhadrapada (Parshva/Vamana Ekadashi). Removing Vamana from article. With all famous ekadashis now having articles, IMO it is thing to move other holy days (have refs for): Bhairava Ashtami (6 December) - DYK with today, Dattatreya Jayanti (Datta Jayanti) - Magha/Margashirsha (depending on calendar) Purnima (27 Dec). --Redtigerxyz Talk 12:01, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Seems I was wrong, Vamana is also worshipped. Found a ref. --Redtigerxyz Talk 12:36, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Done Varuthini Ekadashi. Please nominate. I am starting Bhairava Ashtami to meet 6 Dec DYK. I will look into Hingalaj Mata on Saturday and then Tulsi. Also, let's create an article on Vishvarupa, Universal Form of Vishnu for Mokshada double hook. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:48, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
IMO, move Vishvarupa to Vishvarupa (disambig) and create article there as Vishnu-Krishna's Vishvarupa is primary meaning. Nominated Bhairava Ashtami. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:44, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Started on Hinglaj Mata, have to complete it. Will do by Sat. Additionally, Tulsi is pending from my side. We have nominated all others for DYK, right? Have lost track of the articles. --Redtigerxyz Talk 18:27, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Removed Bhairava img from DYK as IMO the reader may be confused as there is no mention of Bhairava in hook. Adding Bhairava in hook will weaken hook IMO. Looking into Hinglaj. Will complete today and nominate. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:48, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
Hinglaj Mata done. Please nominate. May be the Hindu and Muslim connection. Will start Tulsi. --Redtigerxyz Talk 10:07, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello there. I've started comments about the provinces at User talk:Dr. Blofeld#Laos provinces. I think keeping the comments centralized will keep us on track. Hope all is well in Delhi! --Rosiestep (talk) 02:27, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

I'd be ok with sandbox, but they didn't seem to have that many characters before I started working on them today, i.e. Bolikhamsai = 461, Bokeo = 476. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:29, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Yes. I use this tool for measuring an article's prose. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:47, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Remember also Nvv that the 5 day deadline is now flexible. Can you upload this for kharkhorin Rock?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:55, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. Full set of 17 including the prefecture. Considering most are on 400 ch, to expand them all beyond 2 kb is nothing really. But if you want to work in sandboxes I'm happy to do that just in case we do feel rushed. Naturally I do want the expansions to be pretty comprehensive even if not big expansions. In fact its probably best we do that as I aim to borrow the Laos book from my sister and I won't see her until Sunday. But it should be possible to find things like landmarks by province on the travel websites, even if try avoid using them directly as sources. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 14:38, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

If we could consistently use these two websites for geography and landmarks, sure you'll find that easier. But if you can also try google book searching any one of the places mentioned under each province. Almost done with Vientiane Province, you can add more on the landmarks and geo features from the Lao Tourism website.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 15:04, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Nvv, just to be on the safe side let's work in the sandboxes User:Rosiestep/sandbox/Laos provinces. The work done so far can be added to these and continue there, please restore the mainspace ones to their originals. Just so there isn't any rushing to meet the deadline and we can ensure that they're fully copyedited and well written before hitting the main page.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:50, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Nvv, I'm doing the moving/restoring. Please just stop working on the Laos province articles for the next 15 minutes until I'm done. Ok? --Rosiestep (talk) 18:53, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Re Bangalore Fort

Did some minor clean up.I thought of some hooks: did you know:

  • The site for Bangalore fort was chosen after seeing a hare chase a hunting dog there
  • Two huge cannons weighing over a ton each were found in Bangalore fort during recent digging for the Bangalore Metro
  • The daughter in law of the King who built the Fort sacrificed herself to pacify evil spirits preventing the fort's construction.
