RevDel

Hi, a long standing editor who isn't much familiar with policies has left me a message with a slang header. Could you please delete this revision from my talk page. Please note that the editor has left comments under the same header in their succeeding edits. Thanks, MT TrainTalk 12:15, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

My name is not dave - Jeez... thanks for the positive support... lol. Mark the train - I'm so sorry for the delay responding to your request for assistance - I was sick this week and I'm getting caught up with messages now. I agree that these messages this editor left on your talk page were absolutely unacceptable. However, it's better if these edits don't get rev del'd - they should remain public so the community can see this editor's collaboration history if future issues arise. I'm going to dig into this editor's collaboration behavior more. If this is an ongoing thing, this user will be talked to and warned. That cannot continue for sure. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else and I'll be happy to do so. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:50, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

The Lieutenant the Broadway show

Hi Oshwah,

I received a message from you stating you removed my addition to the cast of the Broadway show, Lieutenant. I added me - stage name Jo Speros, as I was the only female in the cast and was not listed. You said I didn't give a citation as proof. Not very tech savvy, so forgive me. Would this do? https://www.ibdb.com/broadway-cast-staff/jo-speros-87736 and this http://www.playbill.com/person/jo-speros-vault-0000114220 ? if not, please let me know what you need. I'd like to be listed as part of the cast.````

Thanks so much,

Joellyn St. Pierre aka Jo Speros```` — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8805:2000:2a1:a845:a4e6:6cf2:3594 (talkcontribs) 21:37, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello Jo, I found another reference in print which has been added to the article. With that said, I would caution about readding the same content once your edit(s) have been reverted until some sort of consensus has been reached with other editors and/or the reverter (as applicable). I would also caution against editing articles in which you have a conflict of interest. Editing in such cases is strongly discouraged and it is recommended to request edit(s) instead on the article's talk page (click blue links to learn more). If you have any questions, please do not hestitate to ask here. Have you considered creating an account? Doing so has benefits, such has hiding your IP address and having a (somewhat) static ( you can request name changes) username that others can find you at. Hello Oshwah, Apologies for the delay, but I have family problems, which may prevent me from my usual Wikipedia activities. To answer your question the main pages this IP tries to change are: BBC News (TV channel), List of BBC newsreaders and reporters, BBC World News, plus numerous other BBC pages. As you will remember, they also "edit" on other similar IP addresses - usually, but not exclusively, in the Bath and North Somerset area of the UK. As far as I'm aware they have never responded to any editors comments on their various Talk pages. I hope to be back in play in a couple of months - at the latest. Best regards, David, David J Johnson (talk)

Amhara

I searched “Amhara” on Google and I found this headline “Claims Amhara identity to be non-existent” and the information is wrong because we Amhara people believe our selves as Amhara not as Ethiopian. Ethiopian refers to all people who live in Ethiopia. We have our own language, culture, food and clothes. So, I would like you to remove the the written part about “Claims Amhara identity to be non-existent” because it gives a wrong idea for readers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:448:8300:D563:DF4:8862:C0B:FBE1 (talk) 06:06, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Aside from your message here that shows a clear conflict of interest and point of view that isn't neutral, your edit here removed a lot more than just the statement that you're referring to here. Please review these policies and guidelines and consider making an edit request instead. This way, it will be reviewed and (if needed) discussed and help given before it goes live, and you'll be following and respecting the policies and guidelines I listed here. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:15, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

It's obvious from his comments that Clive Barker fucking hates Christians.

And rightfully so. Why not put it in the article? Are we going to edit out how Hitler hated Jews or Guillermo Del Toro hates Catholics from their articles in the interest of being politically correct? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 45.74.67.15 (talkcontribs) 06:24, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Your message here alone clearly shows me that you have a point of view with this article subject that is not neutral. Please refrain from adding content like this to articles. Aside from the clear violation of Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, we strictly scrutinize articles that are biographies of living people and remove content that is controversial and isn't supported by a reliable source. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks for the message and I appreciate your understanding. Mísamhna's Edits

I have to give a discourse next Thursday involving the nature of "The Cross" and to get a little broad information, I came to Wikipedia. It's not usually everyone's first choice, but I've been around for over a decade and have faith in the site. I've personally done what I can to fight to make sure it's everything it's meant to be. Besides, it's something that need in-depth investigation so I was planning on delving deep into sources rather than just taking the text at face value.

Fifteen opened tabs later and I come across the article Crux simplex. I was shocked after a quick pass of the introduction which seemed to suggest that the idea was the invention of a Scholar in the 1500's. Going back and reading it more carefully I realized that the first sentence said that the term was invented by him. This does appear to be correct, but the statement's placement seems misleading. Further investigation showed that the article was suggested for merger with Crucifixion since it contained a lot of basic information about the act rather than the subject of the article. Misharna made a major edit he claimed would make it an article about Crux simplex, but the edit completely restructured the opening of the article.

(You can see it in the diff here.)

Looking at the user's talk page, I found that he'd been blocked as a suck puppet of another user, Esoglou. Continuing, I saw he'd been blocked, the discussion of this action including claims that his Catholic background had influenced his editing. It seems clear this change was made in bias (made funny in that his source for the "invention" wording is a source that supports the idea of the crux simplex being used in this instance). Further look through his actions include popping out the section of the article Instrument of Jesus' crucifixion that supports his viewpoint into its own article so he can link to it rather than the parent article across the site.

I think his actions and those of all his forms need a look at. I'm incredibly busy with the aforementioned discourse and other projects, including an important matter in the Baseball sections of the site that I'm already quite derelict in. These are matters far beyond a simple undone revision. I'm honestly not as well versed in the inner workings of the site anymore, things changing quite a bit since my most involved period, so how and where to go to deal with these matters. Yours was the name on the sock puppet template, so I figured I'd start here. Looking at your page, you look like a good-hearted cool guy who wouldn't be bothered by being contacted for such a matter. I was planning on contacting GorillaWarfare, the user on Esoglou's template and a member of the discussion in his blocking, but realized I'd mixed up the user names. If you'd prefer I go to him, or have a place that is better for me to bring this up, lemme know.

Thanks for reading the wall o' text!

--The Silent Wind of Doom (talk) 06:38, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi The Silent Wind of Doom and thanks for the message! I went ahead and reverted the article to the revision it was at immediately before this user began modifying it. Does it look better? Are there additional things that need to be fixed? You're of course welcome to fix those issues and make the article better :-). Mao page

I made a mistake editing the Early revolutionary activity of Mao Zedong page before it was fixed. There is a mistake in labelling a picture of Karl Marx, which I made a mistake, myself, in editing and didn't realize it. It says he is on the left of the picture and Lenin is on the right, despite Marx being the only person in the picture. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.224.210.235 (talkcontribs) 12:29, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks for leaving me a message here and for explaining what you were trying to do. No worries; things happen and mistakes get made - it's not a big deal. Permanent ban

I’ve noticed a ton of vandalism going on with the Timothy Heller Timothy Heller (singer) page and while I say kudos to the temporary edit lock, I’d recommend you just ban the ip’s of the people doing it (since it’s pretty much just two people editing it). I know who they are and know that they will be right back to continue to vandalize the page after the lock expires because they don’t know how to stop. Just a suggestion.

Tempaccountnotgonnauseit (talk) 15:03, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Tempaccountnotgonnauseit - Fear not ;-). I'm still looking at the article history and the edits made - I just got sidetracked with a few high priority tasks that made me have to set this aside for a few moments; I'll make sure things are handled. Thanks for the message :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:07, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
(by talk reader) Can someone explain this? If what you're doing as an editor is good for Wikipedia, why hide behind some sock account? I just don't understand the apparent cowardice. Everyone here is against vandalism so why fear retribution for reporting it? Why create a throwaway sock account? Chris Troutman (talk) 17:37, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
Chris troutman - I'm not sure that I'm following you completely. Are you talking about this account and their apparent "personal knowledge" of the anonymous editors that were disrupting the article? If so, I'm just assuming that this editor is trying to do right. Let me know if I'm interpreting your message here incorrectly... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:54, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
I'm concerned about the throwaway sock. My thought is, if your cause is just, why do this? Chris Troutman (talk) 18:00, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
Chris troutman - Taking the username out of the equation, it could be that this user wanted to create an account and inform us of what's going on at the article... When things like this enter the "question zone" (haha), I usually just stick to AGF unless there's direct evidence that should tell me otherwise ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:04, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
I'm asking for an honest answer because I seek to understand this behavior. What are the game mechanics involved that make editors think they can't themselves report this vandalism? There are opportunity costs for creating socks, unless everyone but me has been creating socks for just such a situation. I'm disappointed that you either refuse to answer or you're happy to remain clueless. I don't understand the rationality behind this and it's seldom I ever show interest in the nonsense the sheeple do. Chris Troutman (talk) 18:28, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
Chris troutman - It could be that this user just doesn't know how to report vandalism properly and isn't aware of AIV. I'm failing to understand where and what exactly you believe that I'm "refusing to answer" or that I'm "happy to remain clueless about"... All I did was semi-protect the article. Shortly afterwards, I received a message here from Tempaccountnotgonnauseit, and I responded. I can't block this account or take any action if that's what you're asking about... it hasn't made any disruptive edits; I can't do anything to this account as it is right now. It's definitely a "temporary" or "throwaway" account (obviously given the username), but creating an account and messaging me about anonymous IP addresses they claim to know personally... that's not sock puppetry. Chris Troutman - I'm honestly and genuinely trying to answer your questions and doing my best to address your concerns... I'm not trying to dodge or avoid your concerns or dance your responses with political mumbo-jumbo... I might be misreading your responses (and please tell me if I am); maybe you're trying to ask the Tempaccountnotgonnauseit these questions? Or ask in general? Let me know what I can do to assist you or help you with your concerns. Please know that my responses come with genuine meaning and my genuine desire to help - my sarcastic responses are easy to distinguish from the others :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:41, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
Nevermind. Thanks for your patience. I'll pursue this line of inquiry some other time. Chris Troutman (talk) 18:49, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
Chris troutman - Are you sure? I want to make sure your questions are answered if I can help - I don't like seeing people walk away from my user talk page feeling that I refused, danced, or purposefully made myself clueless about anything. That's absolutely not my intentions... Message me any time you change your mind; my talk page is always open to you and I'm more than happy to help with anything needed. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:04, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

"page protected to prevent vandalism"

hi, my names raina and i want to edit Timothy hellers wiki, no, im not a cultbaby trying to mess it up, or a tim stan trying to make melanie look bad. im trying to be mature and write unbiased, because your edit is too much and seems to benefit Heller..when clicking the pencil icon it says page protected to prevent vandalism, whats that mean? Wosumisushi (talk) 17:00, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Wosumisushi, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your question. The notice you're receiving when trying to edit the article is due to the article currently being semi-protected from editing by anonymous users and accounts that have not been confirmed or autoconfirmed. You can read about Wikipedia's protection policy here, and you can read additional information on the different protection levels here. If you have edits that you feel should be made to the article, follow the instructions here to make an editing request. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:06, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

You need to make an edit request if you have changes that you believe should be applied to the article. Response to removal of my edit

Hey Oshwah,

Got your message about the removal of my edits on the Henry Salt (Egyptologist) page due to not having a source. I'm confused because I did have a source. It's ( Technology, Missouri University of Science and. "Library Proxy Server". doi:10.1093/ref:odnb/9780198614128.001.0001/odnb-9780198614128-e-24563. ) It was under the number 2 for the references when I put it in there and the [2] was shown after my edits to the first couple of sentences in the biography. Is this not a good source or is there something else wrong with it? Let me know the issue.Alex C Stansbery (talk) 17:56, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Alex C Stansbery - Please accept my apologies; the revert and warning was an error on my part. I've restored the edits you made to the article - please let me know if I can do anything else for you or if you have any further questions or concerns. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:41, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Could you have a look? It was tagged for G11, though was not so unambiguous that I honored the G11. ANother user moved the tag saying they know the brand. Well, they did nothing about the promotional content saying they would in a few days. I removed all but the lead so as not to have promo content hanging out. 3rd opinion appreciated.--Dlohcierekim (talk) 18:38, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Dlohcierekim - Sure, no problem.  Checking... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:50, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
Dlohcierekim - You made the right call by shortening the article into a stub. Not all of the article content was worded in a promotional manner, and "unambiguous" is questionable here. Even when looking at the creator's userpage draft of the article, I would say that the "History" and "Product line" sections need to go, but the references and other content show that this can be worded into a stub and that it doesn't meet A7. I always say to myself, "when in doubt, don't delete" ;-). Oh, and if you haven't read the Wikipedia essay I wrote, Identifying blatant advertising - give it a flip through :-). If anything, you understand all this already and can use it in your comments and replies to help others that might not. Let me know if you have any more questions or need anything else and I'll be happy to help. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:58, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Edits that add content such as this need references to be cited in-line with them. They added it back with only this as a source [5] which I didn't feel was reliable since it doesn't link to anything or even list a date someone could search up. I left them a comment regarding this. I left the regular guest content up since I found a few sources for that and he tweets about it but the oyster comment I felt wasn't lede material. What about a personal school "essay"? Thegooduser Let's Chat 01:40, 7 April 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - That depends. If it's added or formatted like they're using Wikipedia as a host or a place to paste their things and take it with them between computers - something Wikipedia isn't to be used for, sure. But if it can be interpreted in any way to be a good-faith attempt to create content or test anything, then no. It really depends on the content and what the perceived intent of the user is - I judge this on a case-by-case basis... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:44, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

Nationalist editors from former Yugoslavia

You recently blocked the page Hasanaginica. There is a nationalist from Croatia, Stasek who try to eliminate the contribution of Vlach (Morlach) minority to the ballad. This editor never red the references added. He erased references and this is vandalism. EU policies try to help minorities but in this case you help Croat nationalists. Please read the text of article. It clearly states that the ballad was descovered in Morlachian land and was named Morlach ballad. Croat nationalists deny the existence of Vlach (Morlach) minority. Please read first the article. There are references about Morlachs (Vlachs)you avoided. Why do you accept such DISCRIMINATION and attack agains minorities ? 79.112.127.221 (talk) 05:39, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

Easy man... calm down :-). Let me take a look and try and help you... okay? :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:31, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

Idle curiosity

This may be a dumb question, but I've seen two or three of these on my watchlist. I understand what they do but I'm curious: why do you want to remove the rollback link? RivertorchFIREWATER 05:54, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

Rivertorch - Excellent question! I do this for many reasons...
Lets make an example: I add the word "POOP!" to an article and save the edit, then I edit the article again and remove the word (or revert my last change)... If you click on the rollback link and the edits are self-reverted, it'll fail and give the editor an error. The MediaWiki software does not detect if edits by the same user are self-reverted, and hence the rollback link stays and regardless if it'll actually do anything. I add a dummy edit to make my change the newest edit which removes that link, which saves other editors from continuing to click on it as well as automated tools from continuing to load it in their queues. Adding a diff also removes the "(current)" flag on the editor's contributions page for that edit, which helps users who are dealing with certain types of vandalism and disruption to know that this edit has already been rolled back or changed since theirs. Novice RC patrollers would be confused if I allowed the rollback link to stay and they click on it and get the error - I save them this trouble by removing the rollback link and on pages where I know that it's not needed.
Hope my response didn't confuse you too much... in a nutshell, it's for many different reasons that make a small to moderate positive effect on others and save them time :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:28, 7 April 2018 (UTC)
It didn't confuse me at all. Thanks! RivertorchFIREWATER 16:28, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

VarunMahotsav - No apologies are needed at all... mistakes happen and its no big deal :-). Okay, I'll take another look into the previous revisions and deleted edits and try and see if there's evidence to assert COI or that the intent here is to advertise or promote. If the article is eligible for a speedy deletion criteria, then it surely will be found. If not, you can always go down the PROD or AFD route if it comes to that (and it qualifies)... Unless the page is a copyright violation, attack page, purely disruptive or abusive, etc. that must be handled urgently, there's no rush here... we don't have to figure it out and delete the article right now. Take your time and don't let yourself feel rushed. That's how mistakes get made (trust me, I've made lots of those haha) which obviously is not fun for you to make ;-). Let me know if you have questions and I'll happily answer them... but I think you should take this as an opportunity to go through and review the guidelines and criteria and take this article down the correct path (if such a path is even necessary). It's okay to be unsure - just ask me your questions and I will happily guide you down the right path. Keep my updated and let me know what you think we should do :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:04, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

If you created this page yourself, you should generally be able to edit it without any issues - what error are you getting when you try to do so? What page is this exactly? Can you provide the exact name or paste the URL so I can view it? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:40, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Sean Burke

Hey Oshwah, me again! On March 22 you protected Sean Burke until April 5 due to IPs removing some negative content [9]. Today an IP (with a similar IP address to the other IPs in March) removed the content again [10]. I thought I would come to you before requesting page protection. I understand if you think I am jumping the gun and want to wait it out but the IPs are likely the same person or people as they are attacking that one paragraph about assault and geolocate to the same location. Thanks! HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 08:41, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

HickoryOughtShirt?4 - Nah, you're not jumping the gun. It's obvious that the removal is just going to keep going and going... For now, lets just keep an eye on this article and see how often this is going to keep continuing. It's also helpful to leave it alone just for now so that I can get more IP information on this user and get a sense on how I can block the ranges this person uses (if it can be done without collateral damage). If this keep happening like it did before, let me know and I'll take another look. Thanks again for the heads up ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:46, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Alright, sounds good, thank you! Just to clarify, what do you mean by "leave it alone"? Do you mean not to revert it or not to request protection? HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 01:47, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Never mind, it's been a long day, I understand what you mean. I apologize, it's been a long day. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 01:51, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
HickoryOughtShirt?4 - lol it's fine, no problem. I was talking about myself and applying protection to the article. I want to leave it be for now until the reverts become repeated ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:09, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Wythy

Just a very minor point but on Wythy's talk page where you wrote Therefore, due to the extreme severity of your offenses, I do accept your responses [...] did you perhaps mean Therefore, due to the extreme severity of your offenses, I do not accept your responses [...]? Sorry if I'm just being stupid but I can't read sense into it that way round. In passing, I do feel bad about all this ... it only came to my attention because they'd vandalized one article I watch. I keep wondering if I should have handled it more tactfully and not risked making their difficult time worse. Ho hum. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 12:49, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

Possible mistake in the date of a battle

Hi, i checked this battle and found the article without a single source. I added a source but when i look at my source, there is no explicit mention of a battle at Nisibis between the Romans and the Persians in 252 (OR). However, i have reliables sources dealing with a battle at Nisibis between these two empires some 15 years earlier : [11], [12]. After discussing with Kansas Bear, [13], we came to the conclusion that the date of the battle is probably wrong, but we do not know if we can change the title of an article or if we have to delete it and open it back with the correct title. How is it possible to solve this issue ? Thanks for your help.---Wikaviani (talk) 13:50, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

Wikaviani - Yeah that's totally fine. Just update the article with the correct date and the references you found to support this, then go ahead and move the page (or if you have questions or feel more comfortable just having me do it), I'll be happy to do it for you. Either way is fine - just let me know. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to respond with them and I'll be happy to help you further. Good catch on the incorrect date... and thanks for fixing it! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:52, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Thanks ! i'll update the article informations but since you kindly propose to me to move the article, i'll let you do it because i'm a new user and i do not have so much experience for this kind of stuff. Thanks again for your help.---Wikaviani (talk) 06:41, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
@Oshwah: It's done, here is the article with sources and correct dates, you can just change the date in the title and replace it with 235 or 237. Thanks.---Wikaviani (talk) 16:37, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Wikaviani -  Done. The page has been moved to Siege of Nisibis (235). Let me know if I can do anything else for you and I'll be happy to do so. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:57, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Comment for Signpost piece on AN/I research

Hi,

I'm currently writing a Signpost article on the recent Community health initiative research on the Administrator's Incident Noticeboard and would like to include some comments from an admin active on the board. I'd be very glad if you could answer some questions and give your general opinion on the survey; if you don't have the time, could you maybe point me toward another Admin who would maybe be interested? Thank you! --Zarasophos (talk) 08:26, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

Bot

How do I create a bot? Is it hard? Thegooduser Let's Chat 01:56, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Thegooduser - Creating a bot requires very advanced knowledge of Wikipedia and MediaWiki tools in addition to expert-level programming and script-writing skills. Aside from that point, you also have to have your bot tested and approved, and it must also comply with Wikipedia's pot policy at all times. Unless you have a very high and very thorough understanding of these areas and the policy, I would refrain from attempting to create a bot or wait until you feel that your skills are at this level first. Bots are highly scrutinized automated scripts and contain many requirements because of the potential for them to accidentally cause a very high level of wrong edits and damage to the project in (literally) just a few minutes time. Having the 'bot' flag lifts some restrictions that even Administrators have - so creating a bot (to say it in a nutshell) is not a casual task or something that can be done in an afternoon ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:04, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your question. You'll want to refer to Wikipedia's policy and guideline page on copyrights. In a nutshell, even if we cited a source that has this information, it doesn't mean that Wikipedia has permission to use it. This is where copyrights and copyright permissions come in - we must verify the copyright of any content we add to Wikipedia like that, even if it's quoted and referenced. Aside from this, we typically don't add song lyrics to encyclopedia articles and I believe that there's consensus stating that they shouldn't be included (I may however be wrong about this). Please let me know if you have any questions about the copyright page I linked you to and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:28, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Question

Are you willing to adopt editors? Thegooduser Let's Chat 02:24, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

I mentor many users - of course. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:30, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Could you adopt me? Thegooduser Let's Chat 02:40, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Sure - what do you need help with or mentoring on? What do you want to get out of this mentoring? I need to know exactly what's going on and why, what aspect(s) or where you feel like you need mentoring with exactly, and what your goals are - the more information the better... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:43, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
I want to learn to how make good articles (You'll see every article I submitted at AFC have been declined). And be granted user rights. I also want to Improve my userpage. Thegooduser Let's Chat 02:45, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - Mentoring typically doesn't help users with things like improving their user pages... lol. That just takes some reading and learning to figure out how to do. I'm also not the greatest when it comes to content creation either - you'll find much better help from somebody who is ;-). I typically work with users who have had a bad or hard start on Wikipedia, who have been reprimanded or put "on notice" in ANI for behavior-related issues or civility problems, those who need help with improving how they resolve or avoid heated arguments or disputes, and/or those who need help with improving their civility, collaboration, or communication issues with others. In comparison, your request for mentoring will be very very easy :-).
Now, we need to be careful and think about user rights and understand who they're intended for. User rights are typically granted based on many findings, including the need that the user has for the user rights, the user's demonstrated knowledge and experience with the area that the user right applies to, accuracy and consistency with handling the area correctly, and that no recent issues, warnings, or major miss-steps have been reported or discussed with the user, and that any mistakes or issues (if applicable) have been matched with demonstrated understanding since the problem was brought to their attention and not repeated. "Being granted user rights" shouldn't be a goal that you have in mind. If it is, then you're thinking things the wrong way here. You need to get involved with an area of the project you enjoy, and if the need for the tools arise and you have good experience in that area and would make good use of the tools, that's the time when you consider requesting them.
If you have any questions about this, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:49, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Edits to "East High School (Sioux City, IA)"

I noticed a number of deletions to valid information in this page. I work to keep this page up-to-date, and a lot of information was removed. Can you tell me why? Thank you! CrabCakes87 (talk) 04:33, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi CrabCakes87, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for leaving a message here with your questions and concerns. I recently went through this article and removed content that either wasn't cited with any references at all, consisted mostly of original research (which isn't allowed on Wikipedia), and other small issues that needed improving. The main things to take away from this are that you should cite any references to content that is added so that verifiability can be established, and to refrain from adding original research (original research refers to any content where "you're the reference" - anything based entirely and only off your experience, relationships, or personal knowledge or involvement with the school).
If you haven't done so, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial. It will provide you with a significant amount of help, breakthroughs, and learning sessions that are important if you wish to have an easy time contributing here. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know and respond with them. I'll be more than happy to help you. Thanks again for the message, welcome to Wikipedia, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:40, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

This has been judged before. Fails our WP:NMUSIC guidelines. Further the page you posted was a real mess and appears parts of it have been copied from a copyrighted source. Legacypac (talk) 05:17, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)@Pariketkoirala: While it may be true that OShwah doesn't know about raps, he does understand WP:notability and WP:CSD#G4. Apparently, this was deleted before per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Girish Khatiwada, and the latest iteration did not correct the problems that led to deletion. Certainly, your version had no cites to wp:reliable sources to support your claims of notability. It might be that Oshwah would restore to Draft space to allow you to add sources there, but as it sat, it was imminently deletable. Sorry I could not be more helpful.--Dlohcierekim (talk) 05:40, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Hi Pariketkoirala, and welcome to Wikipedia! Unfortunately, this article was deleted per this criterion for deletion. This article existed in the past before, but was deleted due to being ruled by a community discussion and consensus as failing to meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines (the discussion is located here if you wish to view it). You'll want to review these guidelines and help pages that I've linked here and make sure that you understand them completely before creating any more articles. They're important guidelines and policies to understand - especially if you don't want the hours of time that you probably put into that article to be wasted and all for nothing. I know how much time that writers put into creating and expanding articles and I respect them tremendously; don't let the lack of policy and guideline knowledge lead to your time being wasted... it's disheartening, frustrating, and it sucks a lot. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks for the message and I wish you well. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:49, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Wiki article deleted by you according to the deletion log

Hi Oshwah. I just realized that according to the deletion log you deleted the page [14] on "12:56, 23 March 2018 Oshwah" I just wonder if you can shed some more light as to why this article was deleted "Article about a real person, which does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject" What or who prompted you to do this? Please see: https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/sheikh-latifa-said-to-be-dubai-royal-missing-off-goa-men-outside-was-her-sos-1823124 and http://www.escapefromdubai.org/ Regards and stay healthy TheMonk 147.29.8.1 (talk) 06:44, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions and concerns. The article was deleted under this speedy deletion criterion, meaning that the article failed to provide a credible claim of significance to establish what makes this person significant and why the article subject should have an article. The article can certainly be re-created by another user; they'll just need to understand these guidelines and make sure that this is done so that the article isn't deleted for this reason again. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message and I wish you good luck :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:56, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Following-up with your message and from my response above: I took another look at the article content that was written at the time and I decided to overturn my original decision to delete it. The claims made in the summary paragraph that this person is the daughter and descendant of two notable people (one person being a UAE vice president) to me represents a credible claim of significance and the A7 criteria hence cannot apply. I have since restored the article, and I thank you very much for bringing this deletion to my attention - I appreciate it very much. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns and I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks again! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:06, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Your edit added unreferenced content regarding the subject's personal life and was in violation of Wikipedia's biographies of living people policy - a policy that we take very seriously. Your message here also sounds like you have a conflict of interest or at least have a very personal point of view about this article subject that isn't neutral. Please do not make additional edits to this article and perhaps instead focus on improving other articles that you have no vested interest or point of view towards. Is [[REDACTED - Oshwah] this] allowed to be removed from an IPs talk page? They literally drew swastikas on their talk page (with a KEK in the middle). HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 08:12, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

HickoryOughtShirt?4 - Yes. Please do! Most typical talk page vandalism like this (where it was made long ago) probably doesn't need to be removed, but grossly offensive and purely disruptive content like that - yeah, definitely take that off. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:13, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

HickoryOughtShirt?4 - Sure, no problem; you're always welcome to message me with questions or requests for help or input. Like I said above, typical old talk page vandalism I don't waste time with deleting, but grossly offensive and purely disruptive content like that I always do because of the high potential to troll, offend, or cause distress to other users. Hi I saw that you recently reverted an edit on the above article to put got back to gotten and steal back to rob. As gotten is the normal form in Am English and was the original spelling I left it but I changed rob back to steal . Merriam and Webster says that it is sometimes considered as wrong or archaic, the Cambridge dictionary says this is not a usual usage, and the Oxford dictionary considers it informal . In all dictionaries, British and American, it can be considered as either wrong, archaic, unusual or informal so as per MOS:COMMONALITY and WP:FORMAL I changed it for steal, I also cleaned up some of the slang as per WP:FORMAL. Hope you're OK with this. cheers. Dom from Paris (talk) 11:31, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Changes to the 98th Flying Training Squadron wiki page

I am Technical Sergeant John Shortell and am in charge of media relations and public affairs for the 98th Flying Training Squadron. The changes I made for the 98th Flying Training Squadron are legit. First, I added the 12th Flying Training Wing into the lead section as the 306th Flying Training Group falls under the 12th Flying Training Wing (http://www.jbsa.mil/Mission-Partners/12th-Flying-Training-Wing/). Also I removed the picture of the glider because we do not operate gliders at the 98th FTS. We operate the UV-18B De Havilland Twin Otter. Lastly I added or motto which is "Stand...in the Door". This is located on multiple murals in our facility as well as on our trianing slides. I can be reached at [REDACTED - Oshwah] for further inquiries to the changes. USAFPT (talk) 16:45, 10 April 2018 (UTC)TSgt Shortell

Hi USAFPT and thanks for leaving me a message here. I reverted your changes to 98th Flying Training Squadron because your edits here removed an image and added unreferenced changes without any in-depth explanation. I acknowledge that you are in charge of public relations in regards to this unit (and I thank you for your service, by the way!), but this also means that you have a personal conflict of interest regarding this and related articles, and it appears that you're being paid or compensated to make edits here. Editing articles and pages where you have a personal conflict of interest with is a highly discouraged behavior here, and will certainly cause you issues in different ways. If you're being paid to edit Wikipedia, you are required to properly disclose this on your user page per Wikipedia's Terms of Service - see this page regarding how to disclose this properly. Again, I appreciate your message, I thank you for your service, and I'll be happy to answer any additional questions if you have them - don't hesitate to ask. Best wishes and happy editing - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:24, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

I am not being paid to update the information. I was ordered to make the changes to the page by the Commander of the 98th Flying Training Squadron because the current picture is not associated with the 98th Flying Training Squadron. It is currently an inaccurate depiction of the Squadron. — Preceding unsigned comment added by USAFPT (talkcontribs) 19:33, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

(by talk reader) @USAFPT: As has been explained, you have no business editing that article. You may propose changes on the article's talk page. So you know, Wikipedia does not welcome media relations types. You would do better posting to the reward board to have a Wikipedian make the changes you're looking for. Chris Troutman (talk) 19:36, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. How does the organization the article is about have no business editing the article that is about us? "Wikipedia does not welcome media relations types"??? Seriously? I am Active Duty Air Force and my JOB is recruiting and public affairs for the 98th Flying Training Squadron. My Commander (whom is not a "media relations type") directed me to make the changes because the current image depicts an airplane that is not even associated with the 98th Flying Training Squadron. Does wikipedia want to display accurate information or not? USAFPT (talk) 19:43, 10 April 2018 (UTC)TSgt Shortell
On your user talk page, you've already been given information about the most effective ways to manage a conflict of interest when it comes to editing. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 19:46, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

(edit conflict) USAFPT - We have rules and community guidelines like these because one of Wikipedia's founding principles is to preserve neutrality with the articles created here. Allowing users that have conflicting points of view, users who have conflicts of interest, and users with similar such issues to make direct changes to these articles compromise this principle. If you wish to make edits to this article, you need to create an edit request - this will allow others to review it and (if no problems are found) apply it to the page for you. Also, as you stated above, you appear to be editing Wikipedia under the direction of your Commander... which means that you're being paid to edit on Wikipedia per our Terms of Use policy. You must disclose this by following the directions here. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. I appreciate your messages and for your patience and understanding; I'm trying to help you, but you need to have some leeway on your end, too... you know what I mean? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:02, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
(edit conflict) @USAFPT: " How does the organization the article is about have no business editing the article that is about us? " Read WP:COI. We've pointed you to it more than once, now. When you read the article about Barack Obama do you want to read what Obama wants you to see? I thought not. "I am Active Duty Air Force..." I absolutely do not care. Does the Air Force benefit from what a self-serving TSgt wants to write about his/her organization? Nope. "My Commander..." This is an appeal to authority, which is a cognitive bias. Your commander's authority does not extend to private property. This website is not beholden to any element of any government. Honestly, if your boss was going to send you on a fool's errand, he should've sent you to get a spool of flight line rather than edit a Wikipedia article. "Does wikipedia want to display accurate information or not?" Not really. People send in donations without an eye to accuracy. Wikipedia especially appreciates contributions from cranks and crazies because their money spends the same, hence the idea that "anyone can edit." Besides, if our charge against you is that you're just another advertiser, our encyclopedia wouldn't benefit from your edits, anyway. Thanks for playing! Chris Troutman (talk) 19:55, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Let's not respond with arguments that will only steer the discussion into a negative direction or lead the user to become angry and choose not to try and let us help them at all. Telling the user that you "absolutely do not care", or making comments about how his boss is sending him on fool's errands or how Wikipedia wouldn't benefit from his edits - the user will only see those statements and draw conclusions and make responses based solely off of them. The goal here isn't to try and tell the user off or shove them out the door after "one upping" them (lol) - otherwise, this response is all the user will remember when they think about Wikipedia from here on out, and it only adds to the negative connotation that some of the outside world sees us as. Our goal here should always be to respond to the user respectfully, assist the user with policies and guidelines, explain how things work here, and give the user an opportunity to ask questions. It may not send everyone away happy, but the user was at least given respectful responses and opportunities to ask questions to people who were willing to answer them... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:15, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Too late for that Oshwah, I have learned that wikipedia does not care about depicting correct information and that "anyone can edit" is truly an "idea" because anyone cannot edit. All I'm trying to do is upload a proper picture of the airplane we jump out of on a daily basis and this guy acts like it's a criminal act. But the "editor in question" is in the wrong for trying to upload correct information that "anyone can edit". Oh well.USAFPT (talk) 20:51, 10 April 2018 (UTC)TSgt Shortell
USAFPT - What picture are you trying to add to the article? None of your edits show that you attempted to add one... Can I help you with making an edit request? Will you at least try and let me assist you? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:55, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
No thank you Oshwah. After your counterparts last rant of ridicule and childish pun, I contacted 12th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs. They directed me to not worry about it anymore and focus my efforts on our official sites.USAFPT (talk) 21:19, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
USAFPT - I'm sorry to hear that I won't be able assist you with filing that edit request and getting the article updated properly. Regardless of this outcome, I want you to know that I wish you well and I thank you very for your service. Should you change your mind, feel free to message me on my talk page here - it is always open to you and you're always welcome here. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:35, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
I hear you, Oshwah, and I'll leave enough alone. My concern is that we've had other CoI editors that understand what the deal is and make reasonable editing requests on talk pages. When any editor makes article edits as if they are the foremost authority on the subject followed by such fallacious arguments, it shows contempt for our project and the community of editors, which should offend all of us. I think the editor in question knows very well that they're wrong. I'm just pointing it out. Chris Troutman (talk) 20:23, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Chris troutman - Of course; I completely understand your thinking and I agree to some extent :-). I just think that we can respond to users with a helpful and willing demeanor and still hold the bottom line firmly if disruption continues or if a user decides to ignore our messages. That's what I typically try to do in these situations - is it perfect? Hell no. But can I say that in my experience it's resulted in a much more positive discussion a higher peaceful resolution rate? Absolutely ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:38, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Pepe

Hey there! Thanks for your protection on Cave. It reminded me that Pepe could use some form of protection, indefinitely. As you can imagine, it's constantly bombarded with vandalism because of the Pepe the Frog meme. Any help in that direction? Leitmotiv (talk) 17:43, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Leitmotiv! Sure - I went ahead and added pending changes protection to the page for three months. Lets keep eyes on it from here, and if the rate of vandalism starts to exceed an amount where it's happening occasionally (like what seems to be going on there now), let me know or request semi-protection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. Please let me know if I can do anything else for you. Thanks for the message, and I wish you happy editing ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:46, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Myriam Joire entry

Hi Oshwah,

P edited Myriam Joire's entry because someone vandalized it. I don't have an account and don't know how to report vandalism. The entry said, under personal that "She is 'mentally retarded'." That's vandalism, so I changed it back to what it said before. Just look at the history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.14.81.75 (talk) 18:05, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

My apologies; I just noticed this and reverted the article further back. Thanks for the message and for letting me know; I've removed the warning I left on your talk page and I apologize for the mixup. Please let me know if I can do anything else for you and I'll be happy to do so. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:07, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

mplayer edits

I'm the primary developer for H5Arena who is contracted with Mplayer.co I'm editing the page because a person not associated with the service(s) tagged their website in some edits and I removed it. Upon removing it, I decided to write some additional information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:F010:2E6:8E:6913:DF6E:CB2B:9C5 (talk) 18:11, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, and thanks for leaving me a message and for explaining what you were trying to do. I understand that you have concerns regarding some content on this article, but the fact that you're contracted with this company means that you have a personal conflict of interest regarding this article. Editing articles where you have a conflict of interest with is a behavior that's highly discouraged by the community and will lead to problems with your edits being kept and not removed by others for this reason. You should instead focus on improving articles where you do not have these interest conflicts and issues with. Also, are you being paid or compensated to edit Wikipedia and update this article? If so, you are required to properly disclose this on your user page per Wikipedia's Terms of Service - see this page regarding how to disclose this properly and be in compliance with Wikipedia's policies and terms of use. Thanks again for your message; if you have any more questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:17, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
To alleviate any concerns, no, I am not being compensated by Mplayer.co. I do, however; work for H5Arena, who provides a software package for Mplayer.co In regards to the edits, there are two parts of the response that seem glossed over. First, a user added a link advertising their (unrelated to mplayer/mplayer.co) site. I removed that link. Second, I noted that someone had severely edited out the re-establishment of the company Mplayer Entertainment. I attempted to undo those edits as well as provide links to the sites in question. While I understand that my indirect link to Mplayer.co could be seen as a conflict of interest, it appears that the page was woefully incorrect. I attempted to provide history on the current state. I'm not sure how wikipedia intends to have historically accurate details without someone "in the know." I'll refrain from further edits, but I find it problematic that an anonymous user is allowed to tag/advertise their site on mplayer's wiki page and/or make up whatever information they want. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:F010:2E6:8E:6913:DF6E:CB2B:9C5 (talk) 21:39, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi again, and thanks for responding here with this information. I took another look at the edits you made. I agree with your removal of the external link to that domain; it does seem like an attempt for someone to advertise, which is not what Wikipedia is for :-). Your addition of content, however, is poorly referenced and hence I removed it. I recommend that you locate reliable sources that support this content, then make an edit request to propose your addition of content. I understand that you're not being paid or compensated by the company, but you do represent a conflict of interest with the article subject due to your relationship with the company through your employment. Because of this, you need to comply with the community guidelines regarding conflict of interest and make edit requests instead of updating the article directly. Your requests will be reviewed and (if no problems are found) added to the article by another editor. This will both update the article and keep you in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the response and I appreciate your understanding :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:09, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

If I were to submit a request for edit, how would I go about citing that mplayer has been re-established in the form of mplayer.co without directly linking to the site? Would I have to request them to provide the LLC paperwork? Furthermore, what would I cite to show a partnership between them and H5arena? What constitutes a reliable source for these issues? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:F010:2E6:8E:6913:DF6E:CB2B:9C5 (talk) 23:16, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Nah, nothing like that. You just need to locate references that are independent from the subject and are secondary (described on this guideline page) - like a news cite announcing this in a cover story... that would be the ideal reference you'll most likely find and would be reliable. Find that kind of a reference and you'll be good to go. If you have any more questions, let me know... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:19, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

So a link like https://www.engadget.com/2015/10/22/mplayer-relaunch/ would be sufficient to say Mplayer is relaunching? So basically, as long as it isn't the site itself, we can use it as a citation? Also, I can't find an option for request edit. According to wikipedia's description, there should be a "View Source" tab to request edits, however; I do not see one.

Yeah, man... that'll work just fine. Well done! Your next step now is to create an edit request so that it can be reviewed and applied to the article by another editor - just follow the directions on that page in order to do so. If you have questions about creating that request or get stuck anywhere, let me know and I'll be happy to help you through it. Thanks again for being so willing to comply with Wikipedia's policy and letting me assist you with this. It makes my job a lot more easier ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:28, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

BBC IP vandal

Hello again Oshwah, As requested, a duplicate message regarding the BBC IP vandal 86.9.95.201 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) who is still making unsourced changes to a host of BBC articles and refuses to engage on their Talk page. In the main the IP's changes are located in the Bath and North-East Somerset area; although there is a query regarding recent (today) unsourced edits on the same subject from 81.174.183.184 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), which appears to be in London. I believe the two may be connected, as there have been random unsourced changes of the same type before. The main changes are on the List of BBC newsreaders and reporters, BBC News (TV channel), BBC World News and BBC One. As you are aware, I'm taking a, hopefully, short Wikibreak - due to family circumstances - but hope to be back soon. With best regards, David, David J Johnson (talk) 18:27, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

David J Johnson - After taking time to review this and get some input, I think that the best resolution to this issue overall is to hold the bottom line. If the edits made to any articles aren't referenced, revert them and warn the user and do not apply "warning cooloff" at all (you know... where some time has passed since their last disruptive edit so maybe we just give them a lesser or same warning instead... the thing we all do... lol). If the user continues to add unreferenced content, then we block them for failing to do so repeatedly. If things continue from there, we do the same thing again and extend the next block to be longer. Rinse and repeat. There comes a point where we know that this is going to just continue... it's time that we just hold them strictly accountable and hope they learn to follow policy that way... What are your thoughts? What are your concerns? Is there anything else like information that you can provide that might help? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:26, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello 77.228.21.131, do you have a reliable source to back that up? Otherwise it could be considered libel/slander. On Wikipedia, the biographies of living people guideline states that "challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation; material not meeting this standard may be removed." Given that you did not provide a reliable source, the removal was proper/correct. If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know here. -- (talk page stalker) TheSandDoctor Talk 19:38, 10 April 2018 (UTC); edited 20:28, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

No problem at present. :-) The miscreant is currently serving four three-month /22 global rangeblocks, which seem to be holding up pretty well. Details at User:Malcolmxl5/Bell Canada vandal. Article “Eldred Lee”

Hi - I’m Eldred Lee himsef and I do not feel comfortable sharing extremely personal details on Wikipedia. Hi there, and thanks for leaving me a message here. In order to receive assistance with your particular concerns, you need to contact the Volunteer Response Team by following the directions here. They have the proper tools and training to verify your identity and help you with your particular issues and concerns. This is what you must do in order to have your concerns resolved - repeatedly editing the article will do nothing, and I can't verify the claims you're making here... the Volunteer Response Team can. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Otherwise, I wish you well and hope that you follow the directions I provided you here. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:00, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Dude seriously, I have anxiety disorder and my information being shared like this is giving me a huge panic attack. If you want a user and the person of the article himself to be escorted to an emergency room due to extreme hyperventilation from panic attack, you can keep reverting it back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:18C:4300:85A0:248F:748E:628:993F (talk) 23:35, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

It's unfortunately too late... the user chose to continue disrupting the article and he's now blocked. Maybe this will be what it takes to get the user to follow my directions... I hope it does. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:45, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
It seems like it's not too late since I'm able to edit at another location. Oshwah you just seem like a bully that just wants to do whatever you want to do. Then please follow their directions. As for how I would feel, I admit it might be like you do. But I also would follow the advice given (contact the team with my concerns) and bear in mind Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing (ignoring the fact you did not create the article, it still applies) and (specifically) this section. --TheSandDoctor Talk 00:10, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

All that is confirmed is that he was arrested. He has not been found guilty of anything yet (or even appeared in court) and has not been called a terrorist by reliable sources. If reliable sources call him one and he is charged/convicted of terror charges, then he would indeed be a terrorist, but until then he is not. --TheSandDoctor Talk 00:18, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

User talk:Flea Nickles

Hello Oshwah. I tagged this user's upage for deletion under csd A7. They contested the deletion. Could you respond to the user and check to see if their upage meets the upage requirements in case i tagged it by accident? ThanksThegooduser Let's Chat 01:59, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Thegooduser - A7 doesn't apply to pages outside the mainspace (articles), so I declined your speedy tagging of his user page on those grounds ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:02, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Could I do db-g11? Thegooduser Let's Chat 02:02, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - Something you really need to understand when you tag any page for CSD... the user on the other end gets notified and usually don't react well to it. They spend time writing whatever page they wrote, and we're essentially telling them that the page they created and feel is important to them should go away and without any discussion first (usually). We're responsible for explaining why their page has to go away when they ask (or on regular occasions - express frustration and anger) about your tag. When we start tagging the same page multiple times, the user on the other end will (understandably of course) feel that the goal isn't to uphold policy, but to get rid of their page - which will cause a frustrated or angry editor to become more angry. Before you begin tagging articles and pages, you need to have read through everything on this guideline page and have a comfortable level of knowledge about each guideline before you go tagging people's pages. I'm not saying that what you're doing is wrong - tagging pages is how you apply your learning, and making mistakes is completely normal (it's a normal part of learning and growing). What you really shouldn't be doing is applying speedy tags in situations where you're not sure, and you really don't want to be guessing by applying the tag repeatedly to the same page then asking afterwards. Study that guideline, tag pages where you know that it's correct, and ask questions if you're not sure and before you tag the page. It will save you a lot of headache and stress, as users won't be coming at you upset or angry, and other editors won't be jumping up on you when you make mistakes. Take some time, read the guidelines, and then let me know if you still believe that G11 applies here. I'll tell you if you're correct or not and I'll be happy to help you - but lets do it the right way and without upsetting other people ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:20, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
I remember you told me "Noone is expected to now these criteria right away" I agree! (Just because I have over 1,000 edits doesn't mean I know all the rules. I am still learning!) Thegooduser Let's Chat 02:24, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - Of course; it took me quite some time to get them all down too and it will for you as well. It's something that will take you quite some time in order to get the hang of, and that's expected and there's no pressure at all to overexert yourself. I just want to make sure that I train you through this without making editors mad in the process ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:27, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
I don't think g11 applies to their userpage. Am I wrong? Thegooduser Let's Chat 02:27, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Thegooduser - Why do you or do you not think that G11 applies to that page? What criterion does apply (if any)? Why do think it does? Cite me the policy and tell me exactly what you think... this is what's going to help you learn ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:28, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
I think it does and does not as the user talks about books/opinion,etc while the other side of my brain: I don't think it's promotional. Thegooduser Let's Chat 02:31, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Have you read my essay on identifying advertising and promotion? Read through it, and then come back and let me know how you feel about what you would do here and why. Lets go slow and take our time with this one so you can study and practice here and I can teach you - this will be a good learning lesson for you. Call this "Lesson 1" if you will ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:12, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
I read through the essay and the user's upage. It now looks like he is talking about his beliefs and himself. I would now say it does not violate the upage guidelines, But it is on the verge of doing so. Thegooduser Let's Chat 01:52, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Holy Crap!

Respecting previous discussion here...

Holy crap, you are a busy man. Thanks again for the attention. I can't believe my message is already off the board. You must get inundated.

Anyway, sorry for taking so long to respond, but like I said, I've been busy. I'd been concerned with doing the revert since there was helpful editing done besides the POV stuff, but didn't have the time to comb through. Thanks for the point to the board. That will be very useful taking this forward. Keep up the good work! --The Silent Wind of Doom (talk) 04:56, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

The Silent Wind of Doom - HA! I'd say that as of lately, talk page discussions here will sit maybe for over a week until they're archived. I have to do this so I can clear room here for new messages - yeah life is pretty active here ;-). No apologies are needed at all - people get busy and there's never any need to rush anything here (unless extremely urgent of course). Great, that's good to hear... I'm glad that I was able to at least get you off on the right direction and I was happy to help. If you need help with anything else, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be glad to lend you a hand. It great to hear that you're doing good here, and I wish you well until the next time we speak ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:08, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Yes, Wikipedia:BWAHAHAHAH looks like a vandal title, but I seem to remember it had some good purpose. Would you consider restoration? Jjjjjjdddddd (talk) 05:11, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Jjjjjjdddddd - No, not with this one - sorry :-/. The page was originally created because of a silly bad "trout" moment that an admin had while testing a long time ago (lol). The subsequent creation of that page you may notice occurred recently was not appropriate nor does it serve its required purpose per policy. It's not a necessary page nor is it needed in any way at all. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:30, 11 April 2018 (UTC)\

Hi there JJTOMMY0987654321, that is what we would consider original research as it introduces your opinion into the article. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and as such is written from a neutral point of view. If you have a reliable source (or multiple) that consider it that, please link them here. Statements in articles need to be backed up by reliable sources (see this referencing for beginners guide). Hi there 50.240, do you have a reliable source to back that up? Otherwise it could be considered libel/slander. On Wikipedia, the biographies of living people guideline states that "challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation; material not meeting this standard may be removed." Given that you did not provide a reliable source, the removal was proper/correct. @Supersupersmartperson: Vandalism is taken quite seriously on Wikipedia and is never tolerated, that is why your edits were reverted. If you want to perform test edits, please do so in your sandbox or in the public sandbox. Please refrain from vandalizing pages. Repeated offenses can lead to a block (loss of editing privileges). If you have any questions, please let us know here. --(talk page stalker) TheSandDoctor Talk 20:53, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Western Sahara

Hi Oshwah, my name, real name is Mohamed Azzouz and I am an history teacher of Moroccan Amazigh decent. I would like to know why you reverted my change in the Western Sahara section. I removed a piece that was talking about something as serious as the history of a people, as an "maybe". You can't say, "maybe these people lived there" and ignoring the fact that our ancestors lived in that area for thousands and thousands of years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MohamedAzzouz (talkcontribs) 22:27, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi MohamedAzzouz, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad to have you here as a new editor to the project! The reason I reverted the edit you made here to Western Sahara was because you removed content from the article without explaining why in the edit summary. When making any edits or changes on Wikipedia, you'll want to make sure to get into the habit of describing your changes using the edit summary. Other editors read edit summaries frequently when reviewing updates and changes - they help them to understand what you're doing, why, and use them to help make further improvements to the project. I appreciate your explanation of your edit, and I hope that you understand and will let us help you to get used to how things work here and get you on the path of becoming an experienced editor here. If you have any questions, need any help, or if you're unsure about anything and just need some input - please do not hesitate to message me here. My talk page is always open to you and you're welcome here at any time. I hope you have a great rest of your day, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:36, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Edit to Scotty Joe Weaver wikipage

Hi there. I submitted an edit based on a letter I wrote to Nicole Kelsay in prison as well as made an update about her being granted parole. I saw where you reversed it as it wasnt properly sourced. Newbie here, just curious on how I should submit that documentation to verify the source and validity of the info. Thanks in advance! Justinmtoth2 (talk) 23:51, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Justinmtoth2, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your question. Unfortunately, sources like the one you speak of wouldn't be accepted. It's based off of original research (AKA where you "cite yourself" as the reference because "you saw it" or "you live there", etc) and there would be no way that it could provide any level of verifiability (which is the goal and purpose of providing references in the first place). Wikipedia's articles and content reference and refer to what we define as reliable sources, or sources that care peer-re viewed and scrutinized for accuracy, that are independent of the subject and and completely neutral from it, and are written using other peer-revered sources as their reference. Wikipedia has a page that explains how to identify sources that we accept, the guidelines on identifying reliable sources page - I highly recommend that you read through it and make sure that you understand it fully. There are some articles that require the use of acceptable sources (such as articles that are biographies of living people), and failing to provide them can cause you some grief. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message, I welcome you to Wikipedia, and I wish happy editing here :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:03, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
So I have the data from the department of corrections with her parole status there. Should I link to the search engine on their website or export the file for that month? (The file would include ALL released individuals in that month though, so some analytical searching may be needed). As for the letter, its certified through the department of corrections as well and includes he Inmate iD they assigned her. Thoughts? Justinmtoth2 (talk) 00:13, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Hmm... I really think that there are better sources out there, such as a reference that uses those documents as their sources... but I'll answer your question and with this thought aside ;-)
You always want to provide a link directly to the source text that you're using to support the article content. The reader should not have to click on any additional links or URLs outside of Wikipedia in order to be taken to the source text that you are directly citing. In general: if it requires the reader to click the mouse more than once, then you should be finding a better URL that links the reader directly to the information you're referencing ;-). Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:31, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Is there a way to unconfuse user-uaa? -- Quite definitely BobTheIP very much editing as 2.28.13.227 (talk) 00:37, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi again, Bob! Oh, nice work... you broke our template!!! Unfortunately, usernames like this will break this template if added as a parameter in the default manner. That's because the equal sign within the username is confusing it. As it is, the template believes that you're trying give it the parameter "JasonSmith" and set it equal to the value of "RexBriggs". To fix this, just add "1=" to the vert beginning, so that the template knows that you're instead trying to give it parameter "1" and set it equal to "JasonSmith=RexBriggs" (which is the default name that templates give to parameters, in order from left to right). I went to UAA and fix it for you ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:10, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Haha, I'm impressed too! It's one of those things that seems obvious once it's explained... Pat Gish

Hey I was using a documented newspaper article and was only using direct quotes or fact based information regarding her life. My fellow classmates and I are working to improve Wikipedia's nature of diversity and inclusion in Wiki, and I was attempting to add information regarding Pat in a respectful manner. What was wrong with the information? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fibrouscashew81 (talkcontribs) 01:14, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Fibrouscashew81, and thanks for leaving me a message with your questions. It looks like some confusion on my part allowed me to draw different conclusions regarding the changes you were making than what was actually going on. With the first reversion I made: the word-wrapping on the diff comparison displayed in a strange way, and I didn't notice that the ending sentence you added here was actually in quotes, hence I thought that this content was you adding a viewpoint or opinion (oops). The second revert I made to your edit here was because of the fact that the quoted phrase didn't cite a reference or source in-line and after that quote (which is no big deal at all). Your next edits to the article here resolved this issue and included a reference - I believe what happened was that I reverted again but based off an older revision (which, again was my fault and nothing you did wrong at all)...
In a nutshell, these reverts were mostly due to confusion on my part and I apologize for interrupting your work and for causing this confusion. I also went and removed the warning that my reversions left on your user talk page as you clearly didn't deserve those. Did you restore the content that I reverted? Do you need my assistance with putting it back? Please let me know if you do, and I'll be happy to help fix what I took off. Please also let me know if I can assist you with anything else. Your edits seem to be just fine, and you're doing excellent work here! Thank you for bringing these concerns to my attention, and I hope that you enjoy the rest of your day. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:43, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

are you up?

[REDACTED - Oshwah] I'm emailing emergencies .--Dlohcierekim (talk) 02:59, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Dlohcierekim - I don't think the statement made by the user was meant to imply a threat of harm (in my personal opinion), but it's obviously questionable to you (even if it's a small amount). Therefore, yes - you should absolutely 100% report any possible threats of harm to the emergency team. Even if you question it, even if you're not absolutely sure or even halfway sure, or even if the user is "absolutely behaving like a troll and doing it just to cause more disruption" - we are neither trained nor qualified as professionals to determine if a questionable statement is a threat of harm, or if apparent threats holds merit, sincerity, or have plans of action behind the words. When in doubt, treat it as if it were a threat and report it. In every situation, it's better to say something and have it turn out to be nothing, than to not say anything and have it turn out to be real. Let me know if you have any more questions or need my assistance, and I'll be glad to help. Thanks for coming by and for letting me assist you here :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:11, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. Based on past interaction, I believe I was being played with. Or maybe he does feel bad 'cause I felt he made me look stupid. Thanks for the reality check. I escalated to the people who are trained to make these evaluations.--Dlohcierekim (talk) 13:31, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Dlohcierekim - Yeah, my honest opinion is that the user was simply stating that they feel stressed not knowing what your thoughts were... but my personal opinion absolutely should not factor into whether or not you report anything to the emergency team. I always explain it this way when users ask me about "how clear it should be before I report it" or about cases that they're not certain:
If you're spending more than just the typical amount of time figuring out what the user was trying to say and you're questioning whether or not someone's comment was meant to be threat of harm or not (either to one's self or to others of course) - you should be reporting it to the emergency team. Question

Is it possible to hide the location from which you took a picture on Wikimedia Commons? Thegooduser Let's Chat 03:20, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Thegooduser - Yes. You need to remove the information from the file page (if it's added there), or (what most likely is) the EXIF data from the image with that information and upload a new version that doesn't have it. Once you do this, that information will disappear. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:23, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Is it possible for you to do it for me? Thegooduser Let's Chat 03:25, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

While you are certainly entitled to your opinions, content added to the site must follow its rules/guidelines. WesterhopeJesmond Dean (talk) 17:05, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi,

I lived in Westerhope for the first 18 years of my life and witnessed many changes.( My family had resided there since the turn of the 20c and constantly reminded me of them).

The additions I added are well known in the area ( and rather more substantial than the 'rumour' about the size of the Chapel House / Chapel Park development), but I have located a link with Darras Hall which may substantiate the additions re the setting up of the scheme.<ref http://www.darras-hall.net/about-darras-hall/ref>

The Anderson family information is factual and I am not sure what citation I can give?

Regards

'Jesmond Dean' Jesmond Dean (talk) 17:05, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Jesmond Dean - Have you reviewed Wikipedia's policy on original research? In a nutshell, it refers to a user "citing one's self" as the source for content being added to an article - whether it be their personal knowledge, experience, relationships, first-hand accounts or witnessing, or even research or works that you've written and published yourself. Original research is not allowed on Wikipedia. It also looks like you should review Wikipedia's behavioral guidelines on conflict of interest as well. Please let me know if you have any more questions after reading the policy and guideline pages I've referenced you here, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks for the message, and I appreciate your patience and understanding. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:41, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Why is this not from a neutral view?

Snek has been a valuable player in the game, after contributing for 8 months, he has single handedly grown the biggest faction with the most successful art. Most people who dont know how to make pixel arts will contact a team that can help them design exactly what they want. This team consists of 4 people.

This is pretty neutral considering its about a competitive game and the player Prof. Snek has made a big team? Can you explain this please.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by AngeliPixelBoi (talkcontribs) 20:46, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

AngeliPixelBoi - The statement implies a point of view because you're referring to the person as "a valuable player" that has "single handedly grown the biggest faction with the most successful art". You should review Wikipedia's policy on wording article content to reflect a neutral point of view. The content you're adding was also not referenced by any sources. You'll want to review this guideline as well. Please let me know if you have any questions about these policies or guidelines, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks for the message, I appreciate your understanding, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:45, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Album cover mistake (leaving this on a few admin's pages)

I uploaded a new version of the Twenty One Pilots album at File:Twenty_One_Pilots_album_cover.jpg, but the reference didn't get processed properly. Can you please edit it so it displays correctly? NMGWP (talk) 04:45, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi NMGWP - Sure, I'll be happy to help. What reference are you referring to exactly that isn't processing? What needs to be fixed exactly? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:02, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
OK, so on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Twenty_One_Pilots_album_cover.jpg (not linking here directly as it embeds the picture), I used the "Upload a new version of this file". I uploaded a new version and included a reference in the description, but it did not come out properly. Although, on closer inspection it appears there is a button I missed. Just a moment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NMGWP (talkcontribs) 05:06, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
OK, so I reverted and then re-uploaded the higher quality version I found, but now the revert and the old edit appear in the file version history. Is there a way to delete those entries to make the version history look cleaner? NMGWP (talk) 05:09, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
NMGWP - Nah, no need; it's fine as it is. Glad you were able to resolve the issue! Let me know if you need anything else and I'll be happy to lend a hand ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:11, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Personally, I would prefer it if the mistake edits were removed from the file version history at it will look cleaner (and save me the embarrassment of looking at my mistake). Is there a way to do so, or is that version history permanent? NMGWP (talk) 05:14, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Redacting previous revisions from an file's upload history involve using the same administrative tools and following the same policies as redacting a revision on a page's editing history. If the reason doesn't fall into any of the criteria for redaction then I cannot do so unfortunately. Sorry :-/ ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:20, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

These don't appear to be reliable sources, so they can't be used to verify content that's changed here. Another thing to remember is that Wikipedia seeks fact, not truth. It's okay for information to be out-of-date so long as it's accurate and well sourced. This is a much better revision to have live than a revision that may have "newer information" but doesn't comply with Wikipedia's policies. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks for the message. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:17, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Neutral opinion-- Could you look at Special:Contributions/Ryantheviking's removal of "white supremacist" from this article? Is the appellation sufficiently sourced? His battleground behavior got him blocked, so it's easy to dismiss his concerns as those of yet another POV-pushing, Truth-purveying crank. I'm too easily persuaded by cranks, and want to be sure I'm not dismissing his concerns wrongly. Thanks, --Dlohcierekim (talk) 12:51, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Dlohcierekim - Sure, I'll take a look and tell you what I find... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:52, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Dlohcierekim - Honestly, I'd have to side with Ryantheviking on the change. The term "white supremacist" is being used to describe this group in the lead sentence of the article, which adds an extremely non-neutal point of view and opinion if used in this manner carelessly. One should also note that the references provided in the article are from blogs and other issue groups and who also refer to this group as "white supremacists" and (to me) in a manner that speaks toward them negatively and with dislike. One reference is from the ADL group, whose mission is to stop the defamation of Jewish people - obviously they're a group who extremely dislike the American Guard group and have no problem calling them this. American Guard's official website (also referenced in the article) do not use this term to describe themselves or on the site at all, which should be a sign that we should evaluate how we describe them on the article. With the references provided and the way the article uses that term in the lead sentence of the content... I feel that this description was added based off of the opinions and feelings of these other groups, and not placed there to describe the American Guard group using an adjective that describes their group in general... something like "political group", or a similar way to describe them. Therefore, I think that the edit (assuming it changes the adjective to something more general and less "heated") is a good call. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:16, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
(Universal talk page stalker) I did spend probably the better part of half an hour looking into the thing yesterday. There may be a discussion to be had there about how and what to attribute differently, or some type of smallish matter of degree. But the ADL ain't a bad source for a frank and honest assessment of groups around the fringes of the far right. And at any rate, I'm not overly hopeful there is an...abundant willingness...to have a nuanced discussion at the moment.
Also User:Primefac, if you're looking to unblock, you probably need to address that the user is already at or beyond 3RR (depending on how you view the IP). And they're autoconfirmed, so the protection is neither here nor there. GMGtalk 13:11, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
@GreenMeansGo: Hah. I don't see abundant willingness or "nuanced discussion" has being that user's strong suits. A problem with "white supremacists", in my personal experieince, is that they are unwilling to so define themselves. But when you dig deeper into their thoughts, beliefs, and actions it becomes quite apparent.--Dlohcierekim (talk) 13:17, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, Oshwah. That was my feeling as well. Guess we should start and RfC.--Dlohcierekim (talk) 13:20, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Well, the "I don't describe myself as a racist but other people do" debate is a perennial one, and at times an intentional tactic by these types of groups to swim in obfuscating nuance. Umm...ping User:Ian.thomson, who I know has had the misfortune of dealing with this type of thing in the past. GMGtalk 13:24, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Famouxe.qaevo and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions. The article Famouxe.qaevo (aside from the first deletions made) was deleted due to the content meeting Wikipedia's speedy deletion criterion defined here. For an article to pass this check, it must contain a credible claim of significance or why this article subject is significant in any way and should potentially have an article. The article lacked this content, and hence was deleted for this reason. I should also note that the article appears to match your username, which I assume is your name? I recommend that you review Wikipedia's guidelines on conflict of interest and the creation of autobiographies, as both behaviors are highly discouraged by the community and you'll face elevated difficulties with writing this article as a result. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:23, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Whitehall Accords (1794)

Hi Oshwah,

The edit I made to the "Whitehall Accord (1794) page was to correct an incorrect date; the Accords were in fact signed in 1793 (I am currently working on this topic for a doctoral dissertation). There is already a note to that effect on the talk page with an attached source, which you can see here:

http://www.persee.fr/docAsPDF/outre_0300-9513_1962_num_49_176_1358.pdf

This raises the problem of the title of the article itself, which contains the incorrect date. Is there a way to change that, or must a new article be created and the information merged? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.173.73.110 (talk) 17:07, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

3 REI Regimental Song

Hi There Since you seem to take vandalism protection a little bit too seriously, I take the liberty to explain you, why I have changed 6 characters in the Regimental Song of the 3 REI of the French Foreign Legion. I did the change, because the song is in German, because I'm native German speaking, and because these 6 characters were simply wrong. "Early" in German is not "fruh" but "früh", a girl is not a "Maedchen" but a "Mädchen" and so on (feel free to check in any dictionary). So please relax, I did not vandalise the article, I simply corrected 6 typo's most people wouldn't recognise, since most people reading an English article can't speak German - apparently just like you, who seem to revert any change, even if you have no clue if it was correct or not... Cheers David — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.73.227.85 (talk) 19:12, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

I reverted a few of your edits where you removed positive contributions to Wikipedia

Hi! I reverted part of your rollback of edits done by what appears to be a school IP address. The IP had provided several positive edits between 3 April and 13 April. Please be more careful next time when you remove contributions to Wikipedia. It's not fair to IP editors when you undo their edits without checking first to see whether the contributions were useful. Thanks! --J. E. C. E. (talk) 19:38, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

J. E. C. E. - The reason I reverted those edits was because they appeared to be unreferenced changes to the data on the given article. Is the information the user changed the data to accurate? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:27, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
Are you sure that we're talking about the same edits? These are the edits that we are talking about: [1] [2] [3]. I found that the data of one edit was accurate after just a few seconds of searching the school website that was provided in the article ([21]) and the other two edits didn't need references (adding a period and links, the latter of which you already thanked me for undoing your rollback). --J. E. C. E. (talk) 14:00, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Please let me know if you have any additional questions about these guidelines and deletion processes and I'll be happy to answer them. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:31, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Jrock98 User page deletion

Hello, it looks like you have deleted my user page. Can you please inform me as to why my page was deleted so i can get a better understanding of what I need to avoid in the future.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JRock98 (talkcontribs) 22:38, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

JRock98! Welcome to Wikipedia! I believed that you had created a user page written solely about yourself, and that you were not going to use your account to edit or participate in the project at all. On top of this, your user page contained a URL to your website, as well as your contact information and other details - so I had removed it under the belief that this may have been your only purpose of having an account. I see now that this is clearly not the case, but if you're going to create a new user page, you really want to leave out the parts where you add your contact information, website, etc... not necessarily because it's against policy, but because your user page is fully public... and you really really do not want to have that kind of information about yourself published. Your anonymity and identity are both things we try to make sure that people keep responsible control over and avoid the disclosure of such... it has the potential to be abused and the target of harassment... trust me, it's not something that you want to have happen.... Please let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything, and I'll be happy to do so. Again, welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you enjoy your time with us :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:57, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

I guess the harassment has to do with some sort of content dispute over edits regarding the Parkchester Department of Public Safety article. Could you apply a full protection on that article, as the edit warring immediately resumed just around two hours following the expiry of the previous full protection, which was for 10 days. Thanks. 60.106.173.239 (talk) 23:21, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Ahh dang it, he's wiggling around that IP... yup, a /64 grand slam is what we need here ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:23, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Ohh yeah - we're definitely at that point on that article as well.... full protection applied. Thanks for the message and for the heads up about this dispute, and let me know if I can help out with anything else ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:27, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Parkchester Department of Public Safety

I am the original creator of this article why did you delete have the information. An anonymous user who doesn’t know anything about the department keeps vandalizing it and you deleted half the article when I created it.

Lobosuperstar - I didn't touch anything within the article itself. The thing I did remove were the uncivil harassment that the anonymous IP left on your user talk page. I figured that you'd appreciate that being removed for you. Can you point me to exactly what you're referring to when you say that I "deleted half of the article"? I'll be happy to assist you with anything you need - I just need to know what exactly we're referring to first before I can do so :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:56, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

I originally applied for full protection from anonymous user! This guy from that ip address started changing things on my article I know a lot about the agency and this guy keeps changing words. He keeps changing Officer Info saying the department is a security company when it fact it’s a law enforcement agency! • Lobosuperstar, please acquaint yourself with our notability guidelines for organizations. Individual municipal and other departments are rarely notable in their own right, and their articles certainly shouldn't be a version of what that organization might put on its website. It is a good idea to read a couple of decent articles and get a feel for what is considered encyclopedic and what isn't. Drmies (talk) 02:48, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello. For the past 24 hours this article suffered five counts of vandalism from three users (two of them being ip users). Institutional Racism Edit

Hi Oshwah,

I respect your reply and understand that you are attempting to make Wikipedia a more neutral place. However the original reason for my edit was also to introduce more objective thought on the subject. I think that for such a controversial topic, to have it stated clearly as fact (when there is widespread debate ongoing talking about it's existence, particularly in western culture) is incorrect. The article itself is lengthy, and criticism is the last section of this page (and the smallest) - which users, particularly those looking for clarity on the issue, are less likely to see. I think the most fair and neutral thing to do in this situation would in fact be, in the opening paragraph, to state that this is a widely criticized and debated concept and that users should look at this objectively rather than accepting it as fact. SDwikiedits (talk) 06:21, 14 April 2018 (UTC) 06:15, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi SDwikiedits, and thanks for leaving me a message here. Are you referring to the edit made here to Institutional racism? If so, then I understand your thoughts behind the matter and why you'd see it as an improvement overall, sure :-). The problem begins when the objective for your edit (or an edit made by anyone) is to "introduce more objective thought on the subject" - one must question if this is a goal that's compliant with maintaining a neutral point of view. I believe that the reason you stated above implies a viewpoint - that the subject is controversial and widely debated (and who knows, maybe you're not wrong), but for each person who believe this to be true... I'm sure there are a number of people who probably don't. We should add neutral content to all articles that reflect all viewpoints and doesn't inject commentary or opinion, and that also reflect due and undue weight in the specific content. These concerns are why I reverted the edit I linked above. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns and I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:42, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Can you please redact these

Hey Oshwah, I came across this IPs edits REDACTED - Oshwah, REDACTED - Oshwah that probably needs to be redacted/hidden. They are completely unsourced BLP accusations that are probably just trolling but I think it needs to be redacted from view. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 06:48, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

HickoryOughtShirt?4 - I'll get this handled, but please email rev del requests to me in the future and don't post them here publicly. My talk page is a highly active place and providing diffs to serious problems or confidential information is giving it out to the many people who watch my talk page... which obviously isn't a good thing ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:31, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
Sorry about that. I thought I read somewhere to post redacted requests on admins talk pages rather than the noticeboard. I don't have email set up (which I should probably do) but thank you for letting me know. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 07:33, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
HickoryOughtShirt?4 - No apologies are needed :-). It's just the best way to assure that no potentially severe or highly problematic revisions are posted here and a redaction requested in public... especially with how active my talk page is ;-). It's best to email these privately in order to avoid the Streisand effect from occurring - especially with revisions that may potentially also need suppression as well. Let me know if you have any questions, and thanks again for being diligent and for reporting these potential problems to someone :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:44, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

User:Stuv3

This user is reverting my edits in order to add a phony warning template to my talk page [29] [30] after adding unsourced material to Sami Zayn [31] [32]. I see you have blocked him twice last month for edit warring and incivility, so I'm bringing this minor annoyance to your attention. GhostOfDanGurney (talk) 16:02, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

GhostOfDanGurney, Stuv3 - Has this matter been resolved? Or are there still concerns regarding this situation? It sounds like a discussion needs to occur directly between the two of you... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:48, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
GhostOfDanGurney, this was almost longer than a week ago and it had not been repeated more than twice, because i thought you were in the wrong. Why bring this up now? It was a mistake that happened a week ago. Do you just want to get me blocked when i have not been active on your page for a full week. It would make a lot more sense if this had of been posted a week ago. Stuv3 (talk) 10:07, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
Stuv3 - I think you should leave him a message on his user talk page and explain that it was a mistake and apologize nicely to him. I think that if you do this, it'll probably be the end of it as far as the user's concerns go. I understand that it's frustrating or perhaps infuriating to see someone messaging and reporting an issue that happened in (what you consider) the past, but you should avoid shifting blame to the other user and responding in a defensive manner - especially if you made a mistake and the user is right. It'll only cause the user to be more concerned and give the user more reasons to keep bringing it up. Leaving a sincere, respectful, and truthful apology and explanation is the proper way to handle this situation and put the user's concerns completely to bed. What you do is obviously up to you; I'm just giving you my input and recommendations based off my experience and how to handle making mistakes - I've made plenty in my time ;-). Plus, it's the right thing to do... there's no better reason than that. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:21, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Will i get in trouble by just continuing to attempt to make him a page? There is no copyright infringement. He is disabled and so am I. But i am more computer literate than him, but you are not speaking in a way i understand. What do i need to do to avoid the claim i violate copyright when I make his wiki page? Thank you. Redacting previous revisions from an file's upload history involve using the same administrative tools and following the same policies as redacting a revision on a page's editing history. Oversight request

In the deletion discussion for James Holloway (historian) an editor has requested an edit in the article be oversighted. If someone with that ability and knowledge about whether it would be appropriate in this case could get back to them I would appreciate it. FloridaArmy (talk) 14:22, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Not to speak for Oshwah or anything, but I don't see anything in those edits that qualify for revision deletion or oversight. They're not things that are just done on request. Writ Keeper  14:32, 16 April 2018 (UTC)
FloridaArmy - I agree with Writ Keeper in that are no issues with the content on the article's current revision or any of its previous revisions where suppression or revision deletion is necessary. The concern mentioned in the AFD discussion you mentioned was based off of the thought that having content about the article subject's education, car ownership, and preference or admiration of certain motorcycles violates a policy on privacy and should hence be removed from public viewing - this is not the case. The content does not provide personally identifiable information nor is any of this content a serious violation of Wikipedia's BLP policy; it is perfectly fine for public viewing. Please let me know if you have any questions about Wikipedia's revision deletion or suppression criteria and I'll be happy to answer them and help clarify any confusion. Also, please email all revision deletion requests to me privately instead of posting them here. It keeps the exposure to such possible sensitive information to a minimum and avoids the Streisand effect. Thanks again for the message and I wish you well. Hi Campocouee and thank you for leaving me a message here. It appears that you may have a conflict of interest with the article subject (David Nilsson) based off the statements you're making and the information you're providing here, and that you're using original research to justify the changes that you believe should be made to the article. If any information is out-of-date on the article, you need to create an edit request with the information to update and the reliable sources that support and verify the information is accurate, and someone will review your request and apply the change if no issues are found with your request. Don't edit the article directly yourself, as it will only make getting your concerns resolved much harder, not easier. I'm not sure why you believe that the image should be removed - it's taken in public during (what appears to be) a game and is in the public domain... Please let me know if you have any questions about the directions I gave you here or the policy pages I provided for you to review, and I'll be happy to answer them. One of the files you uploaded, File:Checkuser Logo.svg is almost the same as File:Wikipedia Checkuser.svg. Do you know if it would be eligible for deletion? File:Checkuser Logo.svg is also an orphaned file on the English Wikipedia. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:06, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Pkbwcgs. The reason for uploading a copy of the logo was because the dimensions for the File:Wikipedia Checkuser.svg were not square, which makes the image in a script I branched and customized to appear distorted when it's displayed. The image I uploaded (File:Checkuser Logo.svg) resolves this by being centered within dimensions that are square (110 x 110). Overall, it's really not that important and there's no urgent need in order to keep it. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:25, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
Perhaps, if I move the image that you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and nominate the other file for deletion at Commons. However, I think it is fully protected and I am not a Commons admin so I can't nominate it for deletion. Pkbwcgs (talk) 16:58, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
Pkbwcgs - Like I said, it was just an upload to make the image display nicely in a script I tweaked and branched from and added changes to - it's not important. It's not anything worth spending a significant amount of time over ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:01, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

I clearly do not remember making these edits as I'm currently using USB tethering because my broadband was currently having problems. Re: SunWise

Sunwise, Is a personal friend, I think you were a bit hasty in blocking them because of the comments on my talk page Retartist (talk) 10:22, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Retartist, and thanks for letting me know about this. Please forgive my block imposed on this user; if this was simply a joke between personal friends then I completely understand and I'm happy to unblock this user. Can you have him leave an unblock request for me? I understand that you think that my block was hasty, but I see this kind of behavior on occasion from new accounts just like this when patrolling, and nearly 100% of cases like this result in the account being identified as a sock puppet whose intent is to continue engaging in harassment toward another editor or to keep disrupting an article or list of articles. Like I said, just have him make an unblock request on his user talk page, make sure to add a comment to confirm his statements, and I'll be happy to accept the request. This will add documentation and help me to justify the reason for unblocking the account. Thanks again for the message and your concerns about this, I apologize for what happened, and I hope you understand the reasons as to why I applied the block. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:35, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Retartist - No problem, and I again apologize for the confusion this created. I hope you at least understand the reason behind the block and why such behavior is typically seen as unusual for normal editors to make :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:51, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
Retartist - Just updating you here to let you know that Sunwise is now unblocked. Thanks again for the message and the explanation. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:27, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Steuart Walton

Hi, Oshwah! Just thought I'd check here to see if you might still be planning to return to the discussion about the updated draft I prepared for Steuart Walton? I really appreciate the time you've put into this thus far, and hope that I was able to answer your question in response to my edit request. Thanks, Kt2011 (Talk · COI:Walton family) 14:31, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Kt2011! At first glance, I don't see any issues that stand out. However, I think it's a good idea to have another editor look as well and come to the same conclusion (in case I missed something). I'll add a response to your edit request and ask for another to take a look as well :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:32, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for reviewing my request and proposed draft. I'll take your advice and look for others that might be interested in reviewing it, too. I thought about posting a message at WP:Biography; do you think that is a good next step if we don't hear from other editors in the next few days? Again, greatly appreciate your time. For the best answer to your question and an in-depth guideline regarding your specific question, you should refer to Wikipedia's Manual of Style guideline page. Specifically, the section you're looking for is here, titled "National varieties of English. Disruptive user?

Hello, while randomly browsing certain articles, I came to the talk page of one recently edited article and noticed this conversation taking place there right now. I don't think what I am seeing is "acceptable" for Wikipedia, especially direct threats to other user. However, I am not really involved directly with this dispute and I am not really sure whether this deserves to be listed at WP:ANI so not sure what should be done about this...Omgwtfbbqsomethingrandom (talk) 19:44, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Omgwtfbbqsomethingrandom - I agree that the comments made by the anonymous user are not acceptable and I've removed the comments in question and warned the user. Since it's been over a day since the user last edited, blocking would serve no purpose so I'm not going to do so. I think that we've done what's fair and acceptable given the situation. Hi Amirhosein92 and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions. The article Mehrad Hidden was deleted due to the content meeting Wikipedia's speedy deletion criterion defined here. For an article to pass this check, it must contain a credible claim of significance or why this article subject is significant in any way and should potentially have an article. The article lacked this content, and hence was deleted for this reason. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message. Gays persecuted

So you think that Christians didn't make the lives of gay people miserable in the 50s and 60s and make coming out impossible? That somehow that fact is not "neutral" enough?

Next you'll probably tell us that saying the South treated slaves badly during the 1800s is not neutral enough.

You should be ashamed of yourself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.185.32.3 (talk) 10:19, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! Your recent edits and your message here clearly show that you have a personal point of view with this topic and you have reflected your viewpoints and opinions with your recent edits to articles. These edits you're making violate Wikipedia's policy on adding content that's worded in a neutral point of view. If you're unable to word content in this topic area to be in compliance with this policy, you need to consider contributing to article in a different topic and in an area that you don't have this issue with. If you continue to violate Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you can be blocked in order to prevent further disruption. Please review the policy page I provided to you here and let me know if you have any questions. I appreciate your understanding and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:23, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

Gays persecuted

Hi there!

It is not violating a neutral point of view to say that Christians have persecuted gay people. For most of the last century Christians have called gay people sinners, forced them to stay in the closet, told them they got AIDS because they deserved to, edited Wikipedia sites to whitewash a politician or a celebrity's sexual identity and say they are straight instead of gay. Christians for decades generally made it impossible for gays to come out. That's no longer the case, just like it was never the case that all Christians used those tactics. But a great many did. Now you tell me how mentioning that violates a neutral point of view. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.185.32.3 (talk) 10:34, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi there Parmar Jayvirsinh, you may know your history better than others, but content changes still need to be backed up by an independent reliable source, which itself should be included in the article. Edit summaries are also recommended when removing content or radically changing existing content, as otherwise the edit(s) might be reverted as being unexplained (especially for the unexplained removal of content). I would recommend reviewing this referencing guide to learn about citations and our (project) requirements for sourcing. If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know. -- (talk page stalker) TheSandDoctor Talk 23:17, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi there 2600, in that case then it is probably okay to disregard that message. IP addresses change all the time, so you probably just were "moved" to one that someone else had previously edited the article on. To prevent confusion like that in the future, why not consider creating an account? One of the benefits of doing so is to stop this sort of thing from happening when your internet service provider changes your IP address. --(talk page stalker) TheSandDoctor Talk 23:09, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

Mdriscoll03 - Sorry for the delay getting back to you - did someone review your request? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:03, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
Oshwah Someone did get back to my request, thanks for asking. Unfortenatally I was declined but I'll go ahead and try again something in the future. Thanks, Mdriscoll03 (talk) 16:26, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
Mdriscoll03 - I apologize for such a delayed reply to do here. I was inactive for about two weeks to take a break and take care of some life / work / fun responsible adult stuff. Yes, please do apply again once any concerns listed have been addressed. I do see that you had the reviewer right revoked in October 2017, which is what I assume was the reason that your permission request received push-back from the admin who saw it. After reading the circumstances behind the revocation, it was fair for the admin to do and you'll certainly need to address that when you ask for those permissions back. HOWEVER, I don't want you to take that previous sentence as discouragement in any way. We all make mistakes - big, small, common, crazy, ridiculous, brow-raising, you name it... I've certainly made plenty of ridiculous and eyebrow-raising mistakes and in each category over the years I've been here... lots. Give it some time, gain some experience, learn from what happened, and you'll be fine and be granted the rights back no problem. Could you please comment on the title censorship

IJBall is reverting to an unofficial censored title on the Imposters (TV series) article. Can you please add your voice to this on the talk page? helmboy 09:39, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

Please sort this out as IJBall has reverted yet again to his unofficial censored source. helmboy 13:14, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi, Oshwah – the relevant conversation is actually at Talk:Imposters (TV series). I've spelled out my concerns there. Thanks. --IJBall (contribstalk) 13:23, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
Alright I'll take a look. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:54, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
Helmboy, IJBall - My sincere apologies for the delay getting back to you both about this. I was inactive for about two weeks to take a break and take care of some life / work / fun responsible adult stuff ;-). Yes, Wikipedia is not censored and you're absolutely correct about that. However... if we're talking about the title of a song, book, movie, etc. - and that title was officially given with censorship in its spelling (the television series The End of the F***ing World is a perfect example), then you'll leave the censorship characters in the title as-is when referring to the title directly. However, let's say for example that within this same article subject a section is written talking about a specific scene and a main character is quoted saying something like, "This fucking sucks and I'm out of here" - the word "fucking" would not be censored within the quote on the article and the whole word would be spelled out. That's where the Wikipedia guideline above steps in. Hopefully that makes sense. Were you two able to sort this out? Do any of you have any questions or further concerns? Let me know and I'll be happy to help. Just don't edit war and get yourselves in hot water over something easy and silly like this - it's not worth it ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:05, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) Fuckin' A, Bubba. Hope you aren't offended by Southron colloquialisms. I could not resist.--Dlohcierekim (talk) 09:32, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
LOL ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:54, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Oshwah, as far as I am concerned, the issue was essentially resolved. Helmboy took the least "censored" version among the available sourceable options and used that. I'm fine with that (though it would be better if this version of the title was explicitly inline-sourced with an RTitle parameter, as the title that Helmboy used differs from that in the episode table's column reference...). --IJBall (contribstalk) 13:02, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

(by talk reader) Don't you think your request is dishonest? Wouldn't it have been more honest for you to claim that the current version (including evidence that the subject was charged with embezzlement) should be replaced with the propaganda version saying what a great politician the subject is? You also need to explain if you have a conflict of interest. Chris Troutman (talk) 19:03, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, I cannot change a fully protected page to any different revision unless a policy violation is found on the current revision (such as a violation of copyright or Wikipedia's biographies of living people policy - those would be removed immediately). Otherwise I would be giving one side an advantage over the other and inadvertently demonstrating bias by "picking a good revision" over another, which isn't the right thing for an administrator to do given the situation and their position.
Typically, when I review an article under dispute or edit warring, I'll look at the article's history and look at the reverts, the edit summaries behind them, the users involved (as well as the number of users involved), the timeline of the dispute, and get a sense of what it's about. I'll glance at the diffs and read the context of what's under dispute (to make sure this isn't a BLP violation or other major problem I need to step in and put a halt to), but I won't read into it in order to find out "which is better or not". All I want to know from reading through the diffs is if the dispute / edit warring is content-related or if it's not - everything else is completely irrelevant when it all comes down to it. I'll add the protection necessary (probably full protection depending on the users involved) and that's it. Whatever revision is live and current... sorry, that's the luck of the draw. If it needs to be changed or it it's "the wrong revision", the article's talk page is that-a-way - feel free to discuss it respectfully with the others, come to a consensus, and let me know when I can verify that the discussion is A-OK and when I can unprotect the page so everyone can move on peacefully ;-). If you have any questions or if you need help with anything, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to do so. Thanks for the message and I wish you well with resolving the issue at-hand :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:28, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Need your assistance in updating the content of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakridge_International_School wiki page

Dear Oshwah,

I have seen that we have been active in editing the Oakridge International School WIKI page. I work for this school and was wondering if you could extend your services in updating the content of this WIKI page.

Here is the first round of updates under History section:

History-

The school is one of the earliest IB world schools in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and was established by educationist, Shomie Das, an alumnus of The Doon School, on the concept of smart schools in 2001. The school started on 11 June 2001 in rented premises in Jubilee Hills.

On 24 June 2002 the campus moved to Khajaguda, Hyderabad. The new campus covers 5.11 acres and was inaugurated by the former chief minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu.

The school got its IB authorisation on 22nd October 2004 and has over 3000 students.

Its a network school using technology as early as 2001. Its a day boarding school where all the extra curricular activities and enrichment programmes take place with in the school timings.

Do let me know if you have any questions and concerns.

Best,

Hi Learnois, and welcome to Wikipedia! I understand that you work at the school, and I appreciate that you're asking for help with editing the article instead of simply doing it yourself due to the conflict of interest present. While it's a highly discouraged behavior to edit the article yourself, you can copy the page or content to your user sandbox, add or improve the content in your sandbox, and then make an edit request to request that your changes be reviewed and added by another user if no problems are found. Since you're brand new here, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you begin. It's full of useful walkthroughs and information, and it will provide you with a significant amount of important tutorials, guides, and scenarios so that you can get comfortable with navigating around the website, locating documents, policies, and important information, as well as how to edit, respond and talk to other users, and many more important concepts. If you have any further questions after completing the tutorial, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you with anything you need. Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia, I appreciate your message very much, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:11, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi Zyzzy2, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your request for assistance. Communication on Wikipedia is primarily done on user talk pages (such as here on my user talk page) or on article talk pages (like Talk:Iran, for example); I reserve email communication for urgent or private matters that need to be discussed on a non-public channel or medium. What can I help you with specifically regarding the Iran article? What questions do you have? I'll be more than happy to assist you - just let me know :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:15, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Two Questions

Um, hi, I've never used this before. I'd would like to know two things:

1. Am I (Redacted). I just take things from other websites and add them into Wikipedia and fix grammatical errors.

2. Is it possible to un-revert my addition to the David Warner (Cricketer) page. I'm not begging but y'know, if it's possible.

Thankyou,

From Rayathing

RayAThing (talk) 15:17, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi RayAThing, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions. I'll be more than happy to answer them and help you out:
To answer your first question: I think you're trying to ask if your account is blocked? If so, then no your account is just fine. If you could elaborate further on what you're trying to ask, I'll be happy to make sure that your question is answered ;-).
Regarding your second question: Are you talking about this edit you made to David Warner (cricketer)? Edits made cannot be redacted or hidden unless they fall under strict guidelines and are eligible by meeting one of the criteria listed here; if you wish to improve or fix something based off of your edit and it's still present on the article now, you can do this simply by editing the article and making the fix or change yourself; easy peasy :-).
Let me know if you can elaborate further regarding your first question, and if you have any more questions or need more help - I'll be happy to do so. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:27, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

I think you should take a look again; do you mind?

My community college's IP address got blocked for vandalism, although I think it was incorrect because that was way back then.

I think the cause was an argument between two editors from there, with the first blanking their talk page (the first was correct). The second (who reported it incorrectly) kept reinstating it and violated WP:BLANK, because the first editor wanted it to be left blank. I don't get why the block was for vandalism if the IP did not vandalize that year. Is there a way the IP can be unblocked? Plus, six months is kind of harsh for that IP's activity.

Dolfinz1972 (talk) 18:52, 25 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Dolfinz1972, and thanks for leaving me a message with your request. I was able to locate the information you were referring to regarding the school IP and the block (I won't disclose them here since it can link to personal information you didn't specifically disclose on your user page). It does appear that you're correct - someone else on the same IP as well as another IP within your school's IP range (just one IP address greater) was repeatedly adding and removing talk page messages and content, which is obviously repeated and disruptive behavior that needed to stop. It also stretched over to Sergecross73's user talk page and continued there as well, causing more repeated disruption. Given that this involves an IP address of an educational institution which is shared with numerous people who will nonetheless use and visit Wikipedia for various projects and research for educational purposes, given the destructive and unnecessary behavior of the edits coming from this shared IP address and the level of disruption it caused (looking at the edit summaries by the IP gauges the tone quite well) - I think that the block on this public IP was maybe set a tad higher for its first block than I wouldv'e given it if it were me that was performing the block, but I would not rule it as unfair. Since you have a user account, you're able to edit from any computer under this IP address without any issues. The block you're seeing doesn't stop current users who have a Wikipedia account from editing from those machines - it only stops anonymous users who don't have an account from doing so. Users who want to edit constructively and do so from behind this blocked IP address can create an account using a different computer that's not on the school's network (or they can request an account), and then do so by simply logging in. Worst case scenario? The block on this IP expires on June 10th of this year, and you'll be smooth sailing from there :-). Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be more than happy to help you further. Thanks again for the message, I wish you good luck with the pursuit of your education, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:53, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! I'm not sure which article you're referring to specifically. Looking at your edit history from March, the article you edited that I also reverted a change to (in April) was Gazetted Officer (India) - is this the one you're referring to? Pronounciation of Name

Hello! I was wondering how your username is pronounced. If possible, please use IPA. Thank you! ʡa-aʡa (talk) 00:47, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

ʡa-aʡa - Oh boy, that's an interesting and awesome request! So... I have to confess: I'm not proficient at all with the International Phonetic Alphabet... certainly not enough to provide you a correct and proper answer to your request here... LOL. I, however, will instead try my best using my own method so that you might get an idea of how to pronounce my username correctly; forgive me in advance for what you'll probably read as the worst attempt in the world by someone trying to type out how to pronounce a word ;-)
It's AWW-SHHZ-WAHH... lol. So you pronounce the 'O' softly (like "AWW" or saying "Awww..." to a cute puppy), followed by saying the 'sh' portion like "SHHZ" (It's not "SHH" like you're hushing someone, but a soft "shhhz" transition like you'd see in Chinese or Japanese or a similar language), followed by pronouncing the 'wah' portion like saying "WAH!" (like you're karate fighting and making a chop... haha). Again, I apologize for what you'll probably say is the ultimate worst explanation of how to pronounce something, but I hope it helps. Your request, if anything, shows me that I'm lacking proficiency in a common area that Wikipedia users who create content typically should have a good idea of knowledge over (how to "spell how to pronounce something"), so I appreciate the request a lot... thank you! If you have any other questions, or if you want to correct me and maybe even show me what the IPA of my username is, please let me know. I'd actually be quite interested to see it :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:20, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

I would try looking it up online. Thegooduser Let's Chat 02:46, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
HA! Nice! Are you trying to write a file to output 0's and 1's like you see on the computer screens in the Matrix movies? Case insensitivity with variable names in batch files depends on their origin and age. You have to remember that you're writing this script using a method that's over 30 years old... the capability, capacity, and implementation of computers back then was a crumb compared to the large pie of computing that's available to us today, so remember to keep that in mind ;-). Adding code to display the output in green text to the command prompt screen has been changed starting with Windows 10, so you'll need to add that part of code depending on the version of Windows that you're going to run this machine on.
Also, for the love of God... add a 'timeout n' or a similar sleep command before that goto line in your loop! You're going to have a really bad time if you don't :-). If you don't make the script hold off for even a one millisecond before it repeats the loop, you essentially give your script the ability to loop indefinitely and without any bounds or limits, and it will use ALL of your available CPU resources to cycle... the program will eat the next CPU clock cycle available to repeat your loop and make your system unstable since no CPU time can be allocated to anything else. Since CPU clocks are at least a few GHz these days, even a 1 millisecond pause will lower CPU usage down from 100% to less than 1-2%, and you won't notice the difference anyways. Trust me... I learned this the hard way when I built multi-threaded C++ console scripts to loop like that. I had a bad time ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:46, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi there! Based off the wording you used in your message to me here, it appears that you may be employed by this company or have some other conflict of interest with this article subject. If you wish to propose an update to the article, you can do so by making an edit request and providing the content and the reliable sources to assert verifiability with your claims. Someone will review your request and apply the changes necessary assuming no issues are found with your request. I would not continue to try updating the article yourself, as it's clear that you're running into hardship and push-back by other editors over numerous issues. The easiest way to resolve your concerns is by making an edit request. This will result in less headaches for you as well as the other users involved. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns and I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you good luck and happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:06, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Thegooduser - Yes, they would be left blocked without verification from the main account that the request is legitimate. The UTRS reviewing admin would contact you through your main account and ask if you're the one who filed this request... to which of course you'd respond to them with "No" and, well, that's that. I would find a UTRS request from a doppelganger account quite suspicious from the get-go (especially if the master or parent account isn't blocked) and verify it with them thoroughly. Most people in that scenario or position would simply ask for that account to be unblocked using their main account and by simply asking myself or another admin casually on their talk page... they wouldn't use UTRS to request an unblock and using their doppelganger account unless there was an exceptionally rare or extraordinary situation that was explainable... haha. If it were me and I was reviewing a UTRS request for a situation identical to your hypothetical scenario above, that's how I would pursue the unblock request and I wouldn't touch the block until the person could verify the legitimacy of the request using their main account. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:32, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Request

I just need to request that please remove the word "Oshwah" from account creation blacklist as edit filter disallow because I want to create a username "Oshwahssockpuppetsaccount". Thank you. OAS account (talk) 04:06, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

I want that username. OAS account (talk) 04:24, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for protecting the article. It was needed. Unfortunately, you protected a version in the vandalised form. Can you please revert it? HiLo48 (talk) 07:04, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

HiLo48 - Taken care of by Dlohcierekim. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:38, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
Yes. It's all good. Thanks. HiLo48 (talk) 01:38, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

False date vandal (again)

Taiwan

We seem to be locked on the version that the IP was fighting for... that contains multiple problems as you can see by the edit summaries by multiple editors. Restoring the article would be best I think.--Moxy (talk) 07:05, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Moxy! Thanks for the message, and I apologize for the delay responding to you here. I was away from Wikipedia for about two weeks to take care of life / work / that adult stuff they call "responsibilities"... that kind of junk ;-).
The article was reverted to an earlier revision by Dlohcierekim. While I didn't mind at all that he reverted the article revision (in fact, I was happy that he did so), I absolutely could not do this since I was the protecting admin. Unless a policy violation is found on the current revision (such as vandalism, violation of copyright, a BLP violation, etc.), in normal situations such as a content dispute, I absolutely cannot change the page to any different revision without consensus from the community and an edit request. Otherwise I would be giving one side an advantage over the other and inadvertently demonstrating bias by "picking a good revision" over another, which isn't the right thing for an administrator to do given the situation and their position. Did I think that the current revision was terrible and did I agree with the majority of the users that it should be reverted? Oh yeah, hell yeah I did... no doubt lol. However, I'm speaking as an editor when I say this, not as an administrator. As hard as it is at times and as much as it can totally suck to have to "be that admin" or "be that person", I'm bound by my role as an admin to follow Wikipedia's policies and make administrative decisions in a purely neutral manner, which means that I have to use only the relevant evidence and facts to make the right decision and to not allow any other matters to be taken into consideration. Any of my personal feelings, thoughts, and opinions were outside that relevant scope and therefore were irrelevant.
If it needs to be changed or it it's "the wrong revision", it's gotta be discussed.
Sorry if this response was a huge novel and much longer than you expected or wanted, but I felt that you deserved a reasonable explanation as to why I didn't change the article after I protected it, as well as an explanation as to exactly how I process relevant evidence and information and make sure that I don't allow myself to take other matters into account when making a decision. It's not always easy to do, and I don't do it because I like being "that guy" or to give people frustration or a hard time... I do it because it's the right thing :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:04, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
If memory serves, I further reverted to the non nationalistic version.--Dlohcierekim (talk) 14:49, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Editor WP:NOTHERE

Hi Oshwah, I have been dealing with an editor. Cdo2017 (talk · contribs), which seems to be case of WP:NOTHERE. The editor has a very narrow focus of interest Para-Commando Brigade (Bangladesh) and seems to be either adding unverified content to that or related pages (even after multiple 4th level warnings by multiple editors). In addition, the editor also keeps repeatedly creating articles related to the topic which do not meet WP:GNG and have been deleted via WP:XFD (in one case they even created a deleted article again without WP:AFC). Moreover, the editor has despite multiple warnings uploaded content to English Wikipedia which has copy-right violations. Any attempt to engage the editor in any discussion does not work. All of this has happened over a period of a year and it seems the editor has not made an attempt to understand Wikipedia or it's guidelines. Can you please have a look at this if it merits taking this to WP:ANI. Thanks. Adamgerber80 (talk) 16:13, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Adamgerber80, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns. Have you expressed your concerns via an ANI discussion? There's nothing to be afraid of if you feel that this may be appropriate. If the user is attempting to add content to an article and create articles (they're just not doing a good job at it), judging whether or not the editor is here to contribute to the cause can be seen as a toss-up here. Sure, the user isn't doing great policy-wise, but attempting to improve the article and create new ones (even though they have a narrow focus and can be considered single-purpose) aren't behaviors that we would attribute to someone whose WP:NOTHERE. In fact, if you read the essay page on single-purpose accounts, it only makes mention to WP:NOTHERE in general and to summarize that, depending on their intentions and the content they add, they can be considered NOTHERE. Usually, it's cases of people spamming, using Wikipedia to advertise or promote, etc - and those are typically obvious. I'm not responding here to say that this user is innocent and that they've done nothing wrong; it's certain that there are issues here. I just wanted to go into detail about how we determine if an editor is here or not here and help explain and define the line. The main issue that I see is that the editor is repeatedly adding unsourced content to Para-Commando Brigade (Bangladesh) (an example is their last edit here). I think that the best thing to do to resolve this going forward it to warn the user each time they add unreferenced content to that article, don't allow warnings to "cool down" or "reset" (you know what I mean... when you see that the last time someone was warned was awhile ago, so you don't add a next-level warning... maybe a lower one), and report the user if they continue after repeated warnings. Since their last edit was a few days ago, there's no actions that I can take right now. Doing so would be inappropriate since most administrative actions are to be used with preventative measures in mind; if there's no active disruption occurring at this time, we need to take action when it is. If this issue continues despite multiple warnings for adding unreferenced content, make sure to report the user during the time it's happening at the time and in progress, and administrative action would be considered much more appropriate here. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be more than happy to help you further. Thanks again for the message, keep me posted, and I wish you well until the next time I hear from you :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:52, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah, Thanks for your reply and I understand the difference between WP:SPA and WP:NOTHERE better now. The editor was blocked for a short duration after I reported them to WP:ARV when they persisted ever after the 4th warning was issued. Now after the block, they are back with uploading copy-vio images on commons and linking them off Wikipedia. This is the third time they have uploaded a set of copy-vio images there and I have asked an admin there to look at it. Maybe you leaving a warning on their page might help? I am also okay with issuing more warnings and reporting this to ARV if that is ideal. Thanks. Adamgerber80 (talk) 14:32, 10 May 2018 (UTC)

My signature

I had my signature all fine for the past couple months then this started to happen, I keep on trying to fix it but it won’t fix here’s what it does now TheKinkdomMan talk 20:49, 29 April 2018 (UTC) TheKinkdomMan talk 20:49, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

TheKinkdomMan - I checked out your talk page and it looks like you just had the default signature set. Go to your preferences and scroll down to the signature area. Uncheck "Treat this as wiki markup" and it'll be fixed. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:54, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
Ok thanks I appreciate it TheKinkdomMan talk 20:55, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
TheKinkdomMan - Still not fixed. Uncheck the box, respond here, and make sure it works ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:22, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
I unchecked the box but then I just get the code instead of my user name TheKinkdomMan talk 00:34, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) I would rcommend removing <span style="background-color: DimGrey;">. Or chnge background color to hot pink. That would be striking.--Dlohcierekim (talk) 09:29, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Dlohcierekim - That would work, lol
TheKinkdomMan - First, let's get you back to the default signature look in your preferences. After we do that, you can go from there and customize your signature if you wish. Make sure that under your preferences options (the User profile tab and under the Signature section) that the text inside the Signature box is empty and the Treat the above as wiki markup option is unchecked or disabled and that you click Save at the bottom to apply your changes. If you did everything right, your existing signature should look now like this in your preferences and next to the "Existing Signature":
Your default signature
TheKinkdomMan (talk)
After you've done this successfully, you now have a clean slate to work from and you can go back and touch things up and customize your signature from there if you'd like. The Wikipedia guideline located here will provide you with all of the examples and tips you'll need in order to create a proper signature that you like. Let me know if you have any questions, need more help, or if you need anything else - I'll be more than happy to help! Cheers ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:41, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Thank you your help, helps me out a lot TheKinkdomMan talk 16:01, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
TheKinkdomMan - Of course; always happy to help. If you have questions or need more help with your sig, let me know and I'll be happy to do so. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:12, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
I think I fixed it, I went to default and then edited it again TheKinkdomMan talk 21:07, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
TheKinkdomMan - Cool deal! If having your username text in black and with a dark grey background is what you are looking for, that's what I'm seeing ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:12, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Yes that’s what I wanted Thank you for all the help TheKinkdomMan talk 22:16, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
