Company History[edit]

Real Kungfu Catering Management Co., Ltd. is the first Chinese fast food enterprise to realize the national chain development and the only local brand in the top five of China's fast food industry.

In 1990, Kungfu originated in Chang 'an, Dongguan. In 1997, Kungfu independently developed computer-controlled steam cabinet, taking the lead in solving the problem of "standardization" of Chinese food. Exploring a new way for the development of Chinese fast food.[7]

In the process of development, Kungfu has established three standard operation systems of Chinese fast food -- logistics production standardization, cooking equipment standardization and restaurant operation standardization. In terms of quality, service, and cleaning, it is fully in line with international standards. In 2006, Kungfu passed the international certification of HACCP food safety management system and ISO9001 quality management system and passed the ISO22000 standard certification in 2008.[8]

As the first Chinese fast-food chain in China, Kungfu has three logistics centers in south China, east China, and north China, and is responsible for the procurement, processing, and distribution of all restaurant food. By March 2014, the number of Kungfu restaurants has reached 570, covering nearly 40 cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Changsha, etc., with nearly 20,000 employees nationwide.[8]

Kungfu adheres to the "nutrition of steamed good" brand positioning, by many customers as Chinese dishes love. With the increase of the number of branches, Kungfu will provide more urban white-collar workers who pay attention to health and pursue the quality of life with continuous and stable high-quality food and good dining experience.[9]

Taste of China[edit]

In 2011, Kungfu officially announced the launch of the customer-oriented "taste of China program", which attracted great attention from both inside and outside the industry. The core of the "taste of China plan" is that Kungfu declares that it will further cultivate Chinese food culture in the future, give full play to its advantages in the standardization of Chinese food, and strengthen the unique advantages of local fast food in inheriting Chinese food culture by exploring more "taste of China" products and dining experience.[8]

Before the large-scale launch of the "taste of China program", Kungfu chose the Guangzhou Tianhe sports west road store as a pilot concept store. If you go to the restaurant, the red look is still very eye-catching, and when you walk into the store, the "taste of China" brush calligraphy on the wall to the right of the front door, together with the use of chopsticks, Peking Opera masks and other Chinese elements in the decor, is striking.[10]

The Chinese taste plan is Kungfu with its advantages in the standardization of Chinese food, by exploring more "Chinese flavor" products and dining experience. Deeping Chinese culture and strengthen Kungfu's unique advantage in the Chinese diet culture development tool. In fact, after the official implementation of the "taste of China program" in Kungfu, it has attracted extensive media coverage and unanimous praise from the industry. [11]

Infringement[edit]

On December 25, 2019, Kungfu was sued by Shannon Lee, daughter of Bruce Lee, claiming it had used the Bruce Lee icon for years and demanded an immediate stop to the use of Bruce Lee's image, seeking RMB210 million in damages. On December 26, Kungfu issued a statement, ready to actively respond to the prosecution and said that this logo is legally approved by China's National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) after the strict examination.[12]

Shareholder disputes[edit]

The dispute between Kungfu's two main shareholders, Pan and Cai, lasted for several years. Cai was sentenced to 14 years in prison for embezzlement while in office. It took Pan a long time to find a solution to the huge amount of money that had been embezzled from Cai.[13]
