Vandalisms[edit]

Thanks for reverting recent vandalisms to my userpage. This seems to be a problem with one specific person at sympatico.ca - the IPs are dynamic. I doubt anything can be done but this is really annoying - the vandal seems to post more and more offensive stuff as time passes (the recent suicide one notwithstanding). Thanks. — Nathan (talk) / 15:39, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for informal peer review[edit]

If you have time, could you take a read through Mountsorrel and make any changes you think it needs? I recently expanded it but I'm still not happy with some sections.

Thanks,

Blocked indefinitely?[edit]

I got a message you blocked my IP because someone else created a user name similar to mine, yet my IP was blocked too!!! What's the deal? Thomas Anderson 19:17, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You were blocked by FireFox for the following reason (see our blocking policy):
Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Can't sleep, I'm becoming a woman". The reason given for Can't sleep, I'm becoming a woman's block is: "
Your username (Thomas_Anderson) has been blocked indefinitely because it is either inappropriate or too similar to an existing username
Your IP address is 152.163.101.9. Thomas Anderson 19:22, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation on my talk page, Firefox. Cheers!Thomas Anderson 19:44, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey firefox why'd you change my user page, or Vandalize it?[edit]

Is there not a special exclusion on user pages as for interfearing?

It's called a user page, not a bloody article for a reason.

My RfA[edit]

Thankyou for your participation in my RfA. Due to an almost even spread of votes between Oppose and Support (Final (16/13/6)) I have decided to withdraw for now and re-apply in a couple of months as suggested. I thank everyone for their kind support of my editorial skills; it meant a lot to me to get such strong recommendations from my fellow editors. If you ever have any hints as to how I can improve further, I would love to hear from you. ViridaeTalk 15:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA[edit]

FF, thanks for your support in my RfA- from such a well-liked editor as yourself it was very much appreciated!

In retrospect, I think I'll let the RfA run its course.

My RfA and your vote[edit]

Hi again FireFox,
Thanks for participating in my RFA! Ultimately, no consensus was reached, but I still appreciate the fact that you showed up to add in your two cents. Actually, you were the last support vote before it closed :). You can feel free to talk to me about it or add some advice on my improvement page.

Sincerely, The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me)

Issues with User:Oreo Priest[edit]

Rollback script[edit]

There was a load priority issue cause the defaults to override the custom values. Thanks for pointing this out. I've updated the instructions[1] with a working method to customize them. You should probably make the script an SRC inclusion again though, so it gets updated automatically.Voice-of-All 22:54, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again :). The move-revert script is fixed now. The problem was the addition of Talk|block links. It should be more stable now if the site changes (though the worst that can happen is it won't do anything).Voice-of-All 19:16, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Issues with Bigtop[edit]

I would like to start this by saying I mean no ills to Bigtop at all. I have three questions. First, why were my previous comments rolled back by User:Lorian 'to prevent vandalism'? Second, may I please be taken off whatever probationary status I have been put on? Third, if I have made any inflammatory remarks, please point them out, as I have not noticed anything that is either a personal attack or a disruptive comment. I would greatly appreciate it if this post were not rolled back or deleted, and that an expedient reply is given when possible. --Oreo Priest 02:46, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for your help and reply. I'm glad this all got cleared up. --Oreo Priest 20:25, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

that a user you previously warned, User:12.151.120.81 has added racist vandalism to the Skrewdriver article, which i have reverted. i'm not well up enough on wiki policy to know how to instigate a ban (which i feel is deserved, looking at his edit history), but i have a feeling you might. thanks --Kaini 19:49, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA standards[edit]

I just wanted to say that I greatly enjoy your RfA standards. I think there is such a thing as having far too few edits or being far too new, but I really hate when people immediately discredit a candidate simply because of editcountitis, or simply because they haven't been a main contributor to a featured article, or for some other reason that largely avoids who the editor actually is and how they are trying to improve WP. To be fair, I'm not an admin, so I don't have in-depth knowledge of all of the tools you guys have as admins, but I think basing your opinions on how they'd use these tools is perhaps the best criteria I've seen yet. -- Kicking222 20:54, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RYULONG ADMIN NOMINATION[edit]

Hi, My name is 'YourCousin'. I have been blocked by RYULONG and his admin buddies. I was VOTE 16 on the OPPOSE list and his #3 supporter(Mr Lefty) deleted my vote after 90seconds (look for yourself)... This guy is totally crooked and a real wiki-bully! I have been censored (LOOK AT THE NOMINATION HISTORY)and would appeal to you to PLEASE read my entry which they deleted... this was vote 15:

Strong oppose I am repasting this as it was just CROSSED OUT by RYULONG SUPPORTER #3, MrLefty. THIS IS A VALID VOTE AND ENTRY, PLEASE READ IT AND DON't JUST TRY TO SILENCE IT! This user(RYULONG) and I had a dispute about a controversial Jeremy Clarkson quote that involved INCEST. I deleted the passage noting that it was too controversial to remain with NO SOURCE. Ryulong insisted that it stayed claiming that 'HE PROBABLY SAID IT' and 'IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING' he would say. After a short editing war, I decided to start a TOPIC on the discussion page so that we could sort it out. RYULONG repeatedly deleted my topic more than 6 times until finally, he had an admin friend block my username for a week. I returned with a sockpuppet and attempted to open the discussion again only to have it constantly and repeatedly deleted.

Please look at RYULONG's discussion page history as well as the discussion page history at Jeremy Clarkson and I am confident that you will see that not only did he attempt to thwart my fair introduction of a topic onto the discussion page, but also tried to insist on keeping a Jeremy Clarkson quote on the page that tunred out to be TOTALLY INNACCURATE. He was stating that when you introduce a quote to an article, it is not the contributor's responsibility to CITE the SOURCE of the quote, but rather it is up to the editors to prove that the subject DID NOT SAY the quote.

I may have lost it and personally attacked this person even telling him to F.O., I may have used sockpuppets to have the page corrected (as it has been and is now)... But this is a bona fide crooked bully. Do not make this bully Admin please. Just look at the pages and you will see that everything I have said is true and the truth has NO holes. he is not concerned about the factuality of an article, he is more concerned about getting his way and having his input in it! He was very, very determined to have the INCEST remarks left INACCURATE and INTACT. The ACTUAL quote is now on the page and has a SOURCE. This is factual. --YourOtherCousin 17:00, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Format Fix on RfA[edit]

Thanks for "fixing my fix." I thought that the "number signs" (#) were what was messing it up and that they corresponded to the tally numbers, hence didn't belong in front of non-tally paragraphs. Obviously not the case. Is there a style page where I can read up on this? Newyorkbrad 17:18, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Try Help:Editing. — FireFox (talk) 17:23, 6 August '06
Thank you. The key piece of information (not readily obvious from the help page but discovered through trial-and-error) is that a line beginning "#:" (number plus colon) does not augment the tally. Newyorkbrad 17:49, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I don't actually think there is any specific page regarding the #: feature, I think I discovered it through trial and error too, not that long ago. — FireFox (talk) 18:03, 6 August '06

editing on the anarchism page[edit]

If you read the discussion page you'll see the sections I removed are considered innapropriate vandalism by the vast majority of editors. I have merely returned the article to how it was pre-vandalism 81.79.139.53 10:36, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the discussion page, except there was no discussion. I don't see any consensus for removing the sections. — FireFox (talk) 10:38, 8 August '06
In that case you are alone among those who have contacted me in not seeing that the majority believe these sections are innapropriate. After explaining my reasons to those moderators who have reverted my edits they responded by saying
"I did read the Talk:Anarchism page, but what I saw was an unsigned statement with no responses from anyone else. There was a section above your statement with a discussion of the topic, but you weren't a participant in that discussion (again, sign your posts), so I sniffed 'vandal' and that's why I reverted.
The content of the article is up to the group, not me. If you feel there's consensus for your edits, go for it. I'm here to stop the vandals, not good faith editors, and I hope you can see how easily one can be confused for the other. Thanks again for the message, and happy editing - Baseball,Baby! balls•strikes 10:26, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
and
"I see it now, I'll stop reverting. Sorry for the inconvenience! ~ Butros (Talk) 09:52, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
A large portion of the discussion page is devoted to the issue of what to do with these sections and only one person thinks they are appropriate, therefore I would be very grateful if you would revert the article to how it was after my last edit (as other users will just assume I'm a vandal and revert my edits yet again if I do it myself). This way the article will be more informative, accurate and representative of the majority of editors opinions. Thank you.
I'm not getting involved in this edit dispute. — FireFox (talk) 10:51, 8 August '06
I don't particularly want you involved either, you involved yourself, so please stop reverting my edits. 81.79.139.53 11:06, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was quite thrilled with all the support, both from the people I see around every day, as well as many users who I didn't know from before, yet wrote such wonderful things about me. I look forward to helping to serve all of you, and the project. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with. -Goldom ‽‽‽ 04:24, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FireFox, thanks for signing up for the Esperanza User Page Contest. The judges have received the fifteen entries, and are ready to start judging. The judges will take a week to complete the judging process, and they will contact all the participants when the judging is done.

Re. Big Brother UK series 7 nominations table[edit]

Well excuse me but it is a nominations table. Also it does not matter what series 6 had - this is series 7. Also that wasn't much of a concensus, just two people. Aren't we here to improve not to just copy? It should say no nominations as that is the twist (even though there isn't according to your comment). It could then be removed on the final day, but as I said it is a nominations table, not a results table. I don't expect much will come of this, but that is my opinion of it. --Alextalk here 16:24, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

August Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

please do not threaten me[edit]

As an administrator you should have sufficient awareness of policy to know that for a statement which is so serious it must be totally verifiable. Yet you are content with half a line in a tabloid article from a publication with a verifiable track record of fabrication. You clearly have not read, or understood WP:V and I find your attitude towards mental health unacceptable as well as immature. You are condoning a gang attack on my edits by various other contributors, which in itself is against editing policy.

If you see fit to use your admin. powers against me I will refer the matter for arbitration. You have no entitlement to edit controversial articles in which you are also involved in admin. issues and if one of your cohorts exercises their powers it will still be seen as your handiwork leaky_caldron 21:21, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry what? Maybe you would consider trying to explain again? "Attitude towards mental health"? "Condoning a gang attack"? "Cohorts"? I'm merely warning you against breaking the three revert rule – surely you would have been even more angry if someone had blocked you without warning you first? Well there's your warning. — FireFox (talk) 21:23, 14 August 2006
except you've supported the reverts by your own actions - totally disregarding relevant policy WP:V. thanks for the warning - it's noted. Now I suggest you read up on some policy leaky_caldron 21:29, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Supported the reverts by my own actions? I'm allowed to have an opinion on what should and shouldn't be in an article – administrators aren't just there to deal with vandalism, we do edit articles too... — FireFox (talk) 21:30, 14 August 2006
as I've said, read the policy covering admin. abuse & controversial editing. You'll find that I'm correct leaky_caldron 21:34, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't abused my admin privilages. We've been here before, with you threatening arbitration against me but it never happened, probably because you realised you had nothing to hold against me? I haven't done anything wrong this time either. I'm going to bed because I'm tired, once again, of having to reply in a conversation which isn't getting anywhere. — FireFox (talk) 21:41, 14 August 2006

Robert Spencer[edit]

Hello, Firefox: I'm writing in support of AnneCr, who has been temporarily blocked (apparently by you). I would like to appeal that block. The user whose unhelpful edits (unbalanced content, obvious agenda) she reverted was himself blocked yesterday for over a dozen reverts.

The fact that he was blocked makes it clear that someone in the Wikipedia hierarchy thought -- as several of us who have worked on the Spencer article do -- that reversions of his material were justifiable. I would suggest that blocking a user for correcting edits that were enough of a nuisance to get the offender blocked is punishing the wrong party. The 3RR, I believe, is in place to prevent abuse, not to delay its correction.

Thank you for your time. Dy-no-miite 20:14, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please provide specific diff links as to why AnneCr shouldn't be blocked, and supporting your other claims. Thanks, — FireFox (talk) 20:16, 27 August 2006
Sure. If you look at the History tab for the Spencer article, there were six reverts under her name during the period of August 26. But these were reverts of the rapid-fire nuisance reverts of "Reza1," who, again, reverted the article at least 12 times under that name, and possibly more under his IP address. And vandalism overrides the 3RR. If you go to Reza's Talkpage, you'll see he was blocked for 24 hours as 20:41 GMT yesterday. Dy-no-miite 20:28, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I will take your word for it and assume good faith on this occasion. Unblocked. — FireFox (talk) 20:33, 27 August 2006

I can think of about a million things that are luckier than being married to either of them! — FireFox (talk) 21:38, 28 August 2006
I'm going to agree with FireFox on that. I would marry Paris Hilton rather than a look alike. Then again, I'm gay, so it won't matter. Geoking66 02:38, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I've reblocked the above user (ZIN (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)) indefinitely. New user pops up and all they do is tag is blocked user names, makes me suspicious. There's no encyclopedic edits so, I hope you agree, no reason not to block :) I've blocked from account creation too. Let's see if the active block list throws up any autoblocks now - my guess is that it will. Please message me on my talk if you disagree with this blocking. --kingboyk 12:53, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah when I blocked him the first time there was at least one autoblock that came up. The only reason I unblocked before is because I mistook it for vandalism and I was unsure about keeping him blocked, but I agree with your block now, yes :) — FireFox (talk) 12:55, 29 August 2006

Probably not connected, but since we've been talking have a look at this: User:Kingboyk is a GFDLvio Admin. Wtf?! Lol. Fine, call me an asshole or something but GFDL violating?! What's that all about I wonder? (rolls eyes). --kingboyk 13:06, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Strange, not to worry about it though, I've got about 300 attack accounts :P — FireFox (talk) 13:08, 29 August 2006

My RfA[edit]

Thanks!

Thank you very much for your support on my recent Request for Adminship. The request was ultimately unsuccessful - which wasn't entirely surprising - and so I'll be taking special care to address the concerns raised by the opposing !voters before running again. If you have any feedback for me, please don't hesitate to leave it at my talk page. Thanks!

glenn herrin[edit]

why are you taking down the info i am working on puting his comany info in he was at one time in with enron and healthsouth and he is the one who put up the money to help start healthsouth at age 19 and was in the water company with enron he had to file CH7 and loss it all lived in a tent for over a year and is back on top of life and making big $$

Pat —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pat Long (talkcontribs)

I am not taking down the information. The article was put up for AfD by Brianyoumans, and the AfD tag was subsequently removed twice by an anonymous user, so I restored the tag. User:Brianyoumans is the person to ask why the article is up for deletion. Thanks, — FireFox (talk) 16:49, 29 August 2006

RfA thanks[edit]

Thank you very much for participating in my RFA, which closed successfully today with a result of (62/18/3). I will go very carefully at first, trying to make sure I don't mess up too badly using the tools, and will begin by re-reading all the high-quality feedback I received during the process, not least from those who opposed me. Any further advice/guidance will be gratefully accepted. I hope I will live up to your trust! Guinnog 14:42, 30 August 2006 (UTC)}[reply]

Esmie Tseng article[edit]

I was wondering why you put back the article on Esmie Tseng. As a friend of hers, I feel (and she agrees) that her private business doesn't belong on wikipedia. I understand that she's sort of a public figure, and that people will be curious. I don't know if you read the article on her in the Pitch, but it was vicious. She doesn't want this publicity, she told me in her last letter. Please take it down out of respect to her wishes. -Lacy —Preceding unsigned comment added by Onlylivingirlinnewyork (talkcontribs)

Hi Lacy. Unfortunately due to Wikipedia policy we can't just remove an article just like that because of personal reasons. If you strongly think the article should be deleted, you should request at WP:AFD, but we warned that the article will probably not be deleted without a valid reason. Thanks, — FireFox (talk) 13:30, 31 August 2006
