That was an extraordinary stroke of perspicacity! It would be interesting to find out how you uncovered the Jeannette Magel hoax. Wikipedia hoaxes, to my knowledge, are not discovered with much frequency.
In looking at the talk page archive of the hoax's creator, Amison, I see that there was an indefinite block applied to their account in 2017, but they apparently had behavior problems predating that. Their account dates back to 2012. By any chance, did you notice when the hoax article was created? I can understand it being retribution for the misunderstanding in 2017, but I can also see it as something a certain type would need no particular trigger to create.
