December 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm CommissarDoggo. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Battle of Two Rivers, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. CommissarDoggoTalk? 10:02, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well I had to because the battle was located at near Firth of Forth and Ecgfirth’s Wikipedia page can also prove it, it is true and the number of forces Ecgfirth I or Ecgfrith had and drest VI had were also true. 91.110.142.194 (talk) 18:05, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Actually his Wiki page does not prove that, as that too is uncited. The information does not state where the battle took place, only that the actions during the battle "resulted in the Northumbrians taking control of the land between the Firth of Forth and the Tweed for the next fourteen years."
Alongside that, WP:CIRCULAR exists, you cannot use Wikipedia as a source for another page. If you wish to add this information again, you can add a citation. If you do not add a citation, it will be reverted.
I will also be marking that information on his Wiki page as requiring a citation, so if you do find one for that information, feel free to fill that need on his page too. CommissarDoggoTalk? 18:57, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes but the battle site was and might of been located near Firth of Forth, and the number of forces and casualties might of been true and it’s likely that it might, And I don’t need to add citations only if I wan’t to than yes I would but now I don’t so yes the battle site might of been true and so as the number of forces and casualties. 91.110.142.194 (talk) 10:15, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Without citations you cannot add this information. You can tell me that it's true, you can tell anyone that it's true, but that's covered under original research, something that also isn't permissible.
You cannot pick and choose whether you're going to add a citation to support something, you have a duty to do so. "If you are adding new content, it is your responsibility to add sourcing information along with it." CommissarDoggoTalk? 12:33, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And I did add citations when I was editing the Battle of the Trent, and later I’m going to edit both the Battle of the Two rivers also Battle of Chester just to let you know, so please do not block my account again for useless reasons, if it looked like i was being rude well sorry than because I was just being genuine. I've removed full page protection for both of these articles and put them on pending changes instead. I suggest you seek consensus on the talk pages of the articles before attempting to insert numbers of combatants. It would also be a good idea to register an account on WP for further editing. Ok I’m the talk page? 91.110.142.194 (talk) 20:36, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you see below what trying to force the issue does. You can appeal that block below, indicating that you understand why you were blocked (read WP:EW) and stating that you won't do it again. Follow the instructions in the box below.
You've obviously encountered some disagreement with the figures you're trying to put into articles. You need to discuss these on the relevant talk pages... propose a change, say why you think it should be made, provide references, etc. Catfish Jim and the soapdish 09:22, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think an indefinite block for WP:CIR is going to be inevitable here. It's not fun to block an obviously enthusiastic editor, but there are no references that support the information you keep trying to insert into these battle articles. Catfish Jim and the soapdish 22:13, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How was I being enthusiastic tell me I was just trying to put my citations. 91.110.142.194 (talk) 11:50, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Enthusiastic is good. Start with The Battle of Two Rivers... let's do this one "fact" at a time... where have you read that the battle was near the Firth of Forth? Catfish Jim and the soapdish 17:04, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, no reply yet, which is a little disappointing. It did look like you were trying to cite The Life of St Wilfrid, which is our only source for this battle. The following is the entirety of what that document contains pertaining to it. As you can see, there is no reference to the location of the battle (if it did actually happen) or the strength of the forces involved:
For in his early years, while the kingdom was still weak, the bestial tribes of the Picts had a fierce contempt for subjugation to the Saxon and threatened to throw off from themselves the yoke of slavery; they gathered together innumberable tribes from every nook and corner in the north, and as a swarm of ants in the summer sweeping from their hills heap up a mound to protect their tottering house. When King Ecgfrith heard this, lowly as he was among his own people and magnanimous towards his enemies, he forthwith got together a troop of horsemen, for he was no lover of belated operations; and trusting in God like Judas Maccabaeus and assisted by the brave sub-king, Beornhaeth, he attacked with his little band of God's people an enemy host which was vast and moreover concealed. He slew an enormous number of the people, filling two rivers with corpses, so that, marvellous to relate, the slayers, passing over the rivers dry foot, pursued and slew a crowd of fugitives; the tribes were reduced to slavery and remained under the yoke of captivity until the time when the king was slain.
