Danska ska vara med under samma kategori. Det är också så som jag har skapat bilden. Danska har en något ljusare blå färg än norska och svenska, och det kanske är svårt att se. På min dator/computer är det dock inga problem men det kanske är annorlunda på din. Aaker 21:32, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Latin Cultures/ France

In your comment with your deletion edit on Latin Cultures you wrote "who has questioned France as country of Latin identity and culture??? how"

In response to your above comment I would draw your attention to the Basques, Bretons, Alsatians, Martiniquans, etc. who are undoubtably French but definitely not Latin. French national identity is explicitally based on an idea of citizenship and shared values, and being Latin or not is irrelevant, thus the comment, "...these countries in Europe will have weak feelings about Latin identity which reflect a feeling of irrelevance of being identified as a Latin country or not."

The population of South Tyrol is about 500,000, less than 1% of the Italian population, and half of them are of Latin origin anyway, so Italy is not in the slightest comparable to the several major French regions which might not be considered Latin. Incidentally, the others are of Austrian, not German, descent. I will move our discussion to the talk page to be continued there. Morrocco Spanish speaking

I disagree that Morrocco is Spanish speaking. 20,000 people out a population of about 30 million is not significant. French is much more widely spoken. If you agree please post a comment on Talk: Spanish Language. If people don't correct the bias the people editing the Spanish language page may soon colour in France and claim that it is a Spanish speaking country.

Vegan, pollotarian

Hello, you,

As you might have read: pollotarian. My "vegan" userbox is a kind of "I wish I was" one. I´d love to be vegetarian, but I am pollotarian. To be honest I don´t eat red meat at all, it´s been 4 years now. But I do eat fish almost everyday and chicken. You are right I should not use this UB, but let it be there...I wish I was... :)

German/French language maps

Hey, I'm wondering if you could help me out here. Those maps you made showing the % of people who claim to speak French and German are pretty good. Brussels language rule

The order of the languages follows the implicit Brussels language rule, which is in the process of being made explicit. In a nutshell, the rule exists in order to prevent edit warring and maintain a degree of neutrality. It is also to remind readers that Brussels is bilingual. Re: where are some of those numbers from (African French)?

Hi, do you have some better reference for those numbers? There is no way to look at the book or even to know the pages number.

Reverts on English Language and Languages of the EU

Ive read your sources. Here is my problem with both edits:

1. You deleted a fact, backed up by a source, and deleted it because of a competing claim of yours instead of discussing it or changing the article to present BOTH views.

2. You deleted an UNOFFICIAL language because it is not recognised by anyone, but then, is that not what unofficial is?

I tend to think its better to try to represent VIEWS rathern than just deleting things? Or discuss and find consensus rather than deleting things that you do not like.

Keep on dreaming - the use of French is increasing?

Hello Aaker. I reacted to your comment regarding the fact that you were claiming that the use of French was increasing, on the discussion board of the page 'French language', see [on dreaming]. Anyway, what I was saying is that: It is not that I'm questioning what you are saying, but have you got proof that the use of French is increasing? In fact, I have the feeling it is the contrary but it is just a feeling, so I can be wrong. Anyway, if you have any document showing this, please let me know. Ok thanks for your answer. Howerer, I'm a french speaker - indeed I'm French - and I've travelled a lot in English-speaking Canada, and even if French was better known than in any other English-speaking country, still, I rarely encounter local French speakers and when it was the case, the knowledge of the French was pretty bad - actually I met a French teacher, and I was surprise that his French was pretty crappy for a teacher, so in fact, I'm not surprise of the level of French of the English speaking Canadians. It is a pity for Canada because knowing several languages is a chance, for instance, I wish my German is better.

Regarding the use of French as an official working language in the European Union, French was historically the primarily working language, and kept its status until at least 1995. Now the main working language is English, as you pointed out. The use of French as an official language in NATO is mainly on the paper, everything is made to make English the only working language - I've heard a story about belgian and french generals have to be very discrete when they speak French to each other. Anyway, it is true that France is not doing enough to protect her own language, but this is an other debate. Monsieur W (talk) 10:15, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

I've had a look at the blog you gave me and I've some doubts of the objectivity of the author and without thinking about it more, I would think that there may be a 'political ulterior motive' behind it. Anyway, regarding the first article, foreign languages are so badly taught in the US that the fact that French and German are less and less learnt by american students is not very significant.  ::: Anyway, thanks again, it was very interesting; I was too pessimistic about the situation of the french abroad, as you said, the situation is more actually complex. French Map

Hi. I've just checked the map, and it does have a 5-9% interval. However, it doesn't have a ≥5% category, which is where several countries belong according to Languages of the European Union (Hungary, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania etc). Interestingly, Greece seems to have been put in the 10-19% category, which as you rightly pointed out should be 5-9%. I'll take a look at it later today or tomorrow. Also, I'll make another version of the German one (without Switzerland and Bosnia-Herzegovina). This will be uploaded as a separate file since there may be pages that specifically reference it (it isn't relevant on the EU languages page, but it may, for example, be relevant on the German language page). French language map

Hi @Aaker. I'm in general agreement with your geographic distribution of the French Language map. The one critique I have is including French as a second language in Syria. I'm not an expert in this area, but I believe that this is no longer the case.
