Yitzhak Gruenbaum

Greetings, Mrodowicz, and thank you for editing the Yitzhak Gruenbaum page. I was surprised to see your revision of the Polish version of his surname spelled with an umlaut. I didn't know that character is used in Polish. Anything I've read about him, to the best of my recollection, uses the Germanic spelling, which in English-language typography substitutes "ue" for "ü". The Jewish population's surnames in Poland seemed pretty well split between Polish and Germanic orthography; if Polish, I would have expected "Grynbojm." Are we "on the same page here"? AE <-> BE spelling

Just so you did not know: liter is the correct AE spelling.

In case you did know this: Do not change AE spelling to BE spelling (and vice versa) for no apparent reason. Imagine the endless reverts we would have on Wikipedia and how the history would be cluttered with effectively identical version, if we allowed this.

The article in question does not clearly have a prefered spelling version, because the topic is neutral to AE/ BE preferences. However, it appears that it is written in AE consistently, which makes your edit even more unnecessary. So, I reverted you. Tomeasy _{T C} 18:22, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Drake-Brockman and the National Alliance

It's great to see other people using these subpages! Regarding Drake-Brockman - as I understand it, the National Alliance was a WA state-based merger of the Country Party and the DLP, which dissolved after a few years. Since it was essentially the state version of the Country Party (there were a few Lower House MPs too), I haven't included it - all its members were again describing themselves as Country Party by the next election. I see it as rather like the present situation with the Country Liberal Party in the NT, or, indeed, the LNP in Queensland. Candidates pages

My ideal preference would be for highlighting too, but I think we may have to settle for something else. I can just see too many technical problems, especially when we get into seats with two Coalition candidates or seats with winners from the "Others" column, which will become all the more frequent as we go further back. Asterisks are a good option, but they're not very graphical and it would be nice to make it really clear. I think perhaps we should take this to WT:AUP to get further input. Hi Mrodowicz! I quite like your system, but I have some reservations too. Firstly, it's going to be much, much, much more complicated to format it that way - and implementing it on past candidate pages would be a truly enormous job. I'm actually kind of OK with the current system, since we have to use asterisks anyway for lower house seats with three-cornered contests (both Lib and Nat) and independents. Last year we were featured in the Signpost, and our interviewer was amazed at our activity. In the end, however, even as active as we are, we are just a tiny group - you can easily become one of our core members! In addition to a lively encyclopedic, Poland-related, English-language discussion forum, we have numerous useful tools that can be of use to you - and that you could help us maintain and develop: we have an active assessment department. As of now, our project has tagged almost 83,000 pages as Poland-related - that's an improvement of over 3,000 new pages since the last newsletter. Out of which 30 still need a quality assessment, and 2,000, importance assessment. We have done a lot to clear the backlog here (3 years ago those numbers were 1,500 and 20,000, respectively). Can you help assess a few pages? assessing articles is as easy as filling in the class= and importance= parameters on the talk page in the {{WPPOLAND|class=|importance=}} template.
