Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Edinburgh Pharmacopoeia, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images from either web sites or printed works. This article appears to contain work copied from Pharmacopoeias and Related Literature in Britain and America, 1618-1847 by David L. Cowen, published 2001, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Edinburgh Pharmacopoeia saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.

Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:16, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

At this point it would be very helpful if you would list here, on this page, all the articles where you have copied verbatim from other sources, with a note of the sources that you plagiarised for each. That would help others to clean them up. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:16, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • For the record, please note that I have restarted the topic as stub. Thanks for developing this further. Andrew D. (talk) 09:03, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Draft:Laboratory of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.rcpe.ac.uk/heritage/college-laboratory-research-and-diagnosis. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Copyright problem: Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh[edit]

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Ajmoore94, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:05, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Talk:Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh/Temp. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Drchriswilliams (talk) 13:36, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Some connection?[edit]

Hi! I can't help noticing that many of your edits are to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, or pages on topics connected to it such as Laboratory of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, Alexander Keiller (physician), Alexander Peddie, George Matthew Robertson and so on, to the extent that I wondered if you have some personal or professional connection to the topic, and thus have a conflict of interest? If so, please read what follows:

In general, conflict-of-interest editors are strongly discouraged from editing articles directly, but are always welcome to propose changes on the related talk-page. You can attract the attention of other editors by putting {{request edit}} (exactly so, with the curly parentheses) at the beginning of your request. Requests that are not supported by independent reliable sources are unlikely to be accepted.

Please also note that our Terms of Use state that "you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation." An editor who contributes as part of his or her paid employment is required to disclose that fact. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:45, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking[edit]

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission. You have been previously warned that this is against policy, but have persisted.

Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 05:12, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I realize that some of my earlier edits were done while I was still learning and might have included material that was not adequately paraphrased, I have a professional role that involves disseminating information around medical history in Edinburgh. The problem was raised in November by other editors and I had taken great care following that and have only made a few small edits since. Today I have attended a Wikimedia training session and had not appealed the block earlier since I didn't know what to do. I think the block might relate to the earlier edits I had made as opposed to any ongoing activity. Ajmoore94 (talk) 13:48, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

Okay thanks. Please make sure everything is paraphrased going forwards. Best Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 14:02, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Doc James: I can confirm that I had raised some issues back in November and that Ajmoore94 had replied and was receptive to this. I confirm that she has attended the Wikimedia training today and that I spoken to her about what has happened here. While there may be some issues from before, I think this editor is now aware of how to avoid problems going forward. Drchriswilliams (talk) 13:58, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ajmoore94. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, John Clerk (physician), for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

  • I have rebuffed this proposal and placed the article on my watchlist. If you should need further assistance in defending your work, please feel free to contact me. As you don't seem to have been given a proper friendly welcome yet, here's our standard introduction. Andrew D. (talk) 09:03, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
