Names of the Episcopal Church
[edit]Please don't invent new names for the Episcopal Church. The article itself carefully explains what the official names are in the relevant section, and the lead should confine itself to the most commonly used of the two. The change you made introduced two names which are not the official name, and took out the official one used in the lead. Tb (talk) 01:14, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
You are quite right that there are two official names, but Encyclopedia Britannica is quite wrong about what they are. They are, as the article explains, "The Episcopal Church" and "The Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America." Tb (talk) 19:53, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Minor edits and minor countries
[edit]Two points: First, I see you're marking many edits as "minor". Perhaps you have "Mark all edits as minor" set in your preferences. Minor edits are those that don't change the content, such as spelling corrections or formatting changes. Adding or removing content isn't minor. See WP:MINOR. Second, I see you added Andorra to the list of neutral states in WWI, but you didn't provide a reference. After an editor questioned it I checked the History of Andorra, and the New York Times archive, both of which say that Andorra declared war. So I've removed Andorra from WWI. If you have s source for the information let's discuss it on Talk:World War I. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 00:08, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi, I thought you'd like to know that Iktae has been unblocked. I believe it was a misunderstanding and that Iktae is not a sock puppet. Thank you for the manner in which you have handled the situation, you have been polite and courteous, and I hope you accept my apology for any inconvenience caused by the block. Hopefully you'll both stick around wikipedia and contribute to the encyclopedia. Happy editing, Nev1 (talk) 16:23, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi. I've nominated Ivan Ziatyk, an article you worked on, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article here, where you can improve it if you see fit. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 03:08, 8 August 2010 (UTC) (nominated on behalf of User:Piotrus)
DYK for Ivan Ziatyk
[edit]On 19 August 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ivan Ziatyk, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Name of Ukraine
[edit]I noticed your reverting my edit of Nicholas Charnetsky. There may be some Ukrainians who, as you do, prefer to use the definite article when referring to their country but Wikipedia uses generally accepted grammar that is supported by a reliable source. Indeed, the definite article has been used with the name Ukraine in English for many years, but this has recently changed. See Name of Ukraine#Syntax which refers to the style guides of respected magazines using the name Ukraine without the article adjective. There are certainly Ukrainian expatriates and people of Ukrainian descent who support the change. If you have some reliable source to support reversing this change, please post it here. Otherwise we should consider a consensus supports the lack of the definite article in simple references to Ukraine. Thank you for your work on an interesting article. --Fartherred (talk) 05:03, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- User IndieRect has removed the definite articles in question. If this meets with approval, there is no more need to comment. --Fartherred (talk) 02:40, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
- Nice to hear from you, Albanman, regards to your friend, happy editing. --Fartherred (talk) 18:22, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your work on the article! I noticed that your references are not using the {{Cite web}} template - this is highly recommended, and I encourage you to use it in the future. I will be going over the article and editing for encyclopedic style, so if you get to the references first, that's great, but I will most likely fix them as I go. Thanks! –Paul M. Nguyen (chat|blame) 13:32, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your nice note. This debate is rather too hard for me, both in terms of Franciscan sensitivities and also in terms of good Wikipedia writing. So I'm happy to leave it to others.
But for what it's worth, I think the order of priority is the general reader first, and only then others more closely associated with the subject. The priority should surely be to make the opening as easy to read from the perspective of someone knowing nothing, and my clumsy attempt at humour was my way of trying to express what it read like to me.
Glad you are in touch with Fr Seed: I have been a fan of his since I saw him on television a long time ago in After_Dark_(TV_series). Incidentally I am not a monk at Heiligenkreuz: this is not a case of WP:COI ! Cistercian (talk) 09:16, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Howdy Albannman. Concerning an edit you made (way back) on 30 September 2008. We prefer to use Pope in the intros of those articles, not Bishop of Rome. GoodDay (talk) 14:48, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
