Replaceable fair use File:Manskeegreenbelt.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Manskeegreenbelt.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 03:31, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

replies to queries[edit]

Hi Alt, sorry for the late reply, I was on vacation during the Holy week. Anyways my comments is as follows:

  1. You could request the move yourself at WP:RM no need for admin intervention
  2. I can't use my admin privilege here due to possible conflict of interest
  3. Per WP:TPO the best means to remove the unsightly comments is to simply archive them (I'll do this for you)
  4. Bonus: dude you really need to report fresh personal attacks ASAP.

Proposed blackout in protest of R,A,10175[edit]

Dear Alternativity,

Greetings!

As a Filipino Wikipedian, I hope you are aware of the passage of Republic Act No. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on September 14, 2012. Currently, there is a discussion on the Tambayan, the noticeboard for Philippines-related topics, about a proposed blackout of the English Wikipedia in the Philippines in order to protest the passage of RA 10175, similar to the blackout against SOPA and PIPA held earlier this year. I feel that your input on the subject will definitely help in the discussion.

Please feel free to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#The Cybercrime Prevention Act, and I hope your input will help the Filipino Wikipedia community determine which is the best course of action against this law. Similarly, we hope to get as much input from as many Wikipedians as possible.

Thank you and maraming salamat po!

Kind regards,

Thank you. Dougweller (talk) 09:33, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The reason why you can't delete a page from your own user space is that only admins have the technical capability to delete pages; but adding {{db-user}} or {{db-u1}} to the top usually means it will be gone within hours. JohnCD (talk)

Sandboxes[edit]

My apologies, for some reason I thought you were inactive, very bad of me. You can blank anything in your userspace (with some minor exceptions that I'm sure won't apply to you). Deletion actually makes the page vanish, not just empty, and only Admins can do that. 22:26, 13 December 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dougweller (talkcontribs)

Joy Mallari[edit]

It's mainly the second paragraph/sentence that I have a problem with. I'd have thought you could find something more general to say about the reason for her notability. Okay, you have provided sources that make those statements, and that's fine. But do most people really know her for those aspects of her style? There's a subtle difference between "her style has been described as..." and "she is known for ..." It wouldn't matter so much if she was world-famous, but it sounds like she is little known outside the Philippines and probably not exactly a household name even within the country. I await correction! :-) Deb (talk) 12:52, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

She's known for the style, yes. Although it's rarely described in the press. I think it would be fair to say she's not well known outside of Southeast Asian art circles (key word art circles). But that's true of most Southeast Asian Painters beneath a certain age, and virtually the entire Filipino contemporary art movement, except for the artists who have consciously sought press notoriety. If by "household name", we measure her against movie stars, then no, she's not well known at all. (And our local movie stars are hardly known outside the Philippines too, but THEIR notability isn't in question.) But in Southeast Asian Art circles, her name recognition is pretty high... and work recognition, even higher. (I kept seeing her work re-posted by friends who went to art shows for years before I learned her name, by actually going to the galleries myself.) I would have written "prominent" in the first paragraph, but I can't find a source that directly describes her as such. Culturally, in the Philippines that's a description that comes with either seniority or administrative clout (aka politics). So... I guess I'll keep searching for sources. - Alternativity (talk) 13:21, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alternativity,

Thanks for reviewing Philippine Native Plants Conservation Society. I really just created the article because I saw the Society red linked in the article you created about Leonard Co. The article about him was quite interesting and well done. I hope I did not step on your toes by starting to create the article about the Society. Please feel free to expand the society article if you are so inclined. I have done a bit of research on the society and will be adding a few more references in the coming days. I do enjoy working in collaboration with others! ciao!!! Carriearchdale (talk) 08:46, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Carriearchdale! :D Thanks. :D I have to disagree about the Leonard Co being "well done" at this point because it's only about a tenth of the quality it should be. Hehe. But thank you. :D Thanks for getting to work on the society article. I've got a huge "to create" list still to get to and I'm afraid the society page isn't very high on my priority list yet. So I'm WAY glad someone's working on it. Hm. One suggestion, btw: are you active on Tagalog Wikipedia? Because there's a lot of work that needs doing there, making articles for native Philippine species. Anyway. Thank you for your work. Knowledge is an important weapon in the movement to protect Philippine biodiversity. And every helping hand is a step forward. :D Happy editing! -- Alternativity (talk) 11:29, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Pia Hontiveros[edit]

The article Pia Hontiveros has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced BLP

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Copying within Wikipedia requires proper attribution[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Tigmamanukan into Indigenous religious beliefs of the Tagalog people. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication.
