Your message

  1. As a courtesy to other editors, it is a Wikipedia guideline to sign your posts on talk pages, user talk pages, and WikiProject pages. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments and your user name or IP address and the date will be automatically added along with a timestamp. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). For further info, read Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Thank you.
  2. You shouldn't just tage your message to the end of the last person's message; you should make a new section.
  3. If you leave spaces at the beginning of lines, it messes up the formatting.
  4. If you're talking about an article, you should link to it (and all-capitals counts as shouting, and doesn't help).
  5. It's no good complaining that your edits were reverted as uncited on the basis that there are sources out there and I could look them up. It's your responsibility to give sources for your edits.
  6. You should also familiarise yourself with our other guidelines and policies, especially those to do with how an article is presented and formatted. Yes, articles are there to provide (reliable, sourced) information, but they should do so clearly, otherwise the purpose is thwarted.
  7. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

  • I take it that you haven't read the material to which I linked, especially WP:CITE. It's Wikipedia policy that you provide sources. There's nothing untidy or messy about doing that, if you do it correctly; if you don't know how to do it, just ask. I'm glad that we seem to be reaching some sort of agreement. There are just two things. First, please use the edit summary, as requested by Wikipedia guidelines; it's a courtesy to other editors (and it makes it less likely that your edits will be reverted). Secondly, it's certainly true that some facts can't be given sources, as they're not written about anywhere; Wikipedia policy means that they can't be included — it's one of the drawbacks of the system (though it can also be a strength). Of the points you mention in your message, only the third can't be placed in the article ("H[e] was survived by two sons and a daughter. The group was split among [the late V. Maruthi Rao, V. Lakshmana Dutt, and Smt. Rajeswari Ramakrishnan. (These are facts heard, verified and re-verified by me from several sources)").

To add sources, use the referencing system; for example:

KCP was founded under the name "Krishna Commercial Products".[1]

The reference will appear in the "Notes" section as:

I can't actually find the original name anywhere on that site, though; could you give a more precise reference?

Apology

Dear Altruism, while editing Malik Maqbul, I messed up the article.

Please restore the original. While doing so, please incorporate the changes I attempted to do. Ramachandrarao provided a very uncharitable account of Gannama Nayak. Gannama was forcibly converted to Islam like Harihara, Bukka and Jagannatha Pandit. The brothers were sent to subdue Housala Kings and Maqbul was initially sent to Multan and later to Warangal to subdue Kapaneedu.

As a continuation of the above message, I would like to request you to wikify the article Kamma (caste) as I am unable to place the references in proper Wiki format.

Lok Satta cut/paste move.

While repairing links to disambiguation page (You can help!), I noticed the "Lok satta" pages kept showing up on my list even though I had repaired the dab link. After clicking around the various pages, I found the redirect "Lok sotta" that still had the article text in the edit page which was causing my problem. I figured out that you had moved the page to "Lok Satta". The problem is that you did a cut and paste move which now has to be fixed by an admin with a history merge. Please, in the future use the "move" tab to move articles so that the history of the article stays in tact. Thanks RobDe68 03:53, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

History has been merged. Just so you know what I mean, there is nothing wrong with moving an article to the proper name. Just make sure that you use the "move" tab instead of cutting and pasting. When you cut and paste, the history of the article stays with the redirect. Wikepedia wants the history to move with the article. That's why I had to request the history merge. Malik Maqbul

1. There was no evidence to say Ganna colluded with Muslims. Ramachandrarao did not have one.

2. Ramachandrarao's article betrays an undercurrent of prejudice towards 'Kamma'.

3. Ramachandrarao draft article on Telugu history is not a true historical account.

4. Maqbul did not have an opportunity to reconvert like Hakka & Bukka who were sent back to south. Maqbul was sent to Punjab.

5. K B Choudary did 14 years of research on various inscriptions, museum records, historical accounts, manuscripts etc just to write his book.

6. I did not make any statement that Kammas were against Muslim rule. The Telugu nayaks (all communities) were only trying to protect their land, faith, customs, traditions, way of life et. against an alien faith. One gets used to aliens and their habits in due course of time. The first encounter with a violent stranger always goes towards protecting yourself. That was what happened in 1320s.

Madurai Nayaks

The caste affiliation of Madurai nayaks is a controversial topic. I found some evidence that they belonged to Balija caste. Please see the Talk page of Madurai nayaks. Earlier, I made some corrections to that effect. I even advised some users to avoid the prominent mention of the caste in the article. I was ignored. I read long back that Tirumala Ramachandra wrote in 'Bharathi' that Madurai Nayaks were Kammas. I am unable to get that reference now. Kumarrao 07:17, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Ramachadrarao's bias and ignorance

I. In the early kakatiya times there is no trace of any kamma. During Kakatiya Ganapati's times, there was disorder and confusion in rajasthan gujarat. An accomplished soldier migrated from Dhar to Warangal and took up employment under the Kakatiyas. He soon became the commander in chief. His name was Gangeya Sahini. He is called the founder of the kayastha vamsa, and there seems to be some link to the marathi CKP community (Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhus) (e.g. Bal Thakre).

Gangeya Sahini can be considered the founder of the important section of Kammas whose names end in -neni today.

Reply:

1.This is absolute falsehood. See Kammanadu article. People living in Kammanadu, the inscriptions of which are available from 3rd century CE, were Kammas.

2. Kammas did not have anything to do with Kayasthas. Sahni/Sawhney cannot become 'Neni'. All Telugu historians/linguists trace 'Neni' from Nayudu/Nayani/Nayuni/Neni. Some linguists trace the surnames 'Pemmasani, Kolasani, chalasani, Lakkasani etc from 'Sahni' but this is controversial.

II. And kammas, no evidence of any kamma states is found : the early leaders of the rebellion against sultans, Musunuri Kaapaya Nayaka and Prolaya Nayaka never wrote anywhere that they had any link to the kamma community. (Most likely they were Kapus.) This does not mean there were no kamma nayaks during those times : they certainly were active. The kammas as such were unlucky, they did NOT found their own state: only a handful could manage to grab large landholdings: so it seems they turned their attention and energies to trade and farming. They did very well.( I have not found any evidence that Musunuri Kaapaya Nayaka had any connection to kammas, except that surname is also found among Kammas and other communities today too. It is a common village name 'of Musunur'.)

Reply: This is where Ramachandrarao could not conceal his prejudice. Not only that, he tried to distort history.

1. All historians agree that Musunuri Nayaks were Kammas. Surname 'Musunuri' exists only in Kammas and Brahmins of A.P., K B Choudary established unequivocally that Musunuris were Kammas. Historians such as BSL Hanumantha Rao, M. Somasekhara sarma and Durga Prasad agreed to his view point. Musunuris ruled Warangal for 50 years. It is because of people like Ramachandrarao, Andhra history does not have a chapter in the name of Musunuris, whose sacrifices are unparalleled in Telugu history.

2. Ramachandrarao alleged that a 'handful' of Kammas 'grabbed' landholdings. What a perfidy and ignorance of Telugu history? Is it not a veiled attack on Kammas?

III. Are they impatient, forward looking , leftist, creative, artistic, bold, a young and rebellious "anti-brahmanical" caste/community

Reply: This is a common accusation made against Kammas. Ramachandrarao was no exception. Kammas were/are never against Brahmins. A progressive community which looks beyond archaic shackles of rituals cannot be branded against a group of people but certainly against some traditions.

Natural instinct

When someone feels threatened by another person or a group trying to make inroads into various walks of life, it is natural to react. However, that should not cross socially acceptable boundaries. Unfortunately, enterprising social gropus of A.P., were victims of false propaganda. V S R College

I studied Intermediate in 1969-1971 (first batch of new Intermediate course). V V Giri, then President of India and a close associate of VR, visited our college and gave a speech praising the qualities of VR, which I vividly remeMber even today.
