Hi

Hi Amartya! Works have not finished with Kaziranga. Probably Nichalp has already told you, if not, I am telling you, you can consider it submiiting to the League of Copyeditors. Or you can ask Fowler&fowler (talk · contribs) to have a look at the article for copyediting. He may oblige. Also, ask Nichalp to tell what he wants with the Tourist section. Does the section need to be totally deleted? Or does it need to be extensively summarised. Follow his suggestion.

The article definitely needs copyediting which is beyond your capacity, because the main author usually loves the article so much, it is hard for him to copyedit. I also cannot do it upto the fullest because of my lack of proficiency in English. Best is non-Indian copyeditors. Thats why it may be submitted to the League or Mr Fowler.

Then the image problem. Please send email permission to permissions@wikipedia.org. You must forward a copy of the email from the author to permissions@wikimedia.org so that a ticket can be logged and placed on the image page. Also, releasing all rights and GFDL are not exactly the same. You can request the author to release it under GFDL, or CC-BY/CC-BY-SA and forward the mail to the above address. o far as I remember, I already gave you the page link Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Thereafter the heavy redlinking needs to be blue-ed!

Regarding your query on other articles related to WB, Bengal should get ready for FAC soon. Also, I have wish to get University of Calcutta and Jagdish Chandra Bose to FAC. In fact, Mr P.K. Niyogi is already enhancing the latter.

Bye the way, despite several communications, we don't know each other well! Where do you live and what do you do? Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:17, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

I did some job to decrease the touristy parts of the article. IMO Nichalp would be ok with the present status of Kaziranga, so far as touristiness is concerned. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:32, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Hey, you use dial-up connection? (saw your infobox) I couldn't have thought to contribute to Wikipedia in a large scale using dial-up!! hehe :) --Dwaipayan (talk) 19:34, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi, after major copyedits, the article size is now 51 kb (should be 50 kb if we can copyedit just a little bit more). I could not do much in Fauna and Flora sections, out of fear that I could remove some important data. Other copyeditors could help to curb the size even more. Goal should be below 50 kb when submitting for FAC. May be some more rounds of copyedits in "History" and "Geography" would do that easily. Best would have been around 45 kb, but that seems impractical. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:49, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Please see this version. All sections are single-heading (without any subsection), except "Fauna". Please check "Climate" and, particularly, "Conservation management" to see if something important has been omitted. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dwaipayanc (talkcontribs) 21:09, 2 April 2007 (UTC).
Hi, added an audio link for Kazirônga Rastriyô Uddyan. Please see if it sounds ok. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 11:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

FAC??

If Nichalp gives the nod, you should go for FAC. Try to reduce the red-link burden meanwhile. And image problem solving. Further issues would be raised in FAC only when it gets a broader audience. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 11:42, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, having red links is not a deterrent for FAC. But you should have as less red links as possible. But ask Nichalp his views on the structure of the article.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:35, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. I am very busy nowadays with my project work. Anyway, I have created the audio at Kaziranga National Park Pronunciation.ogg. You may use it if you wish. Regards, — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:10, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Kaziranga

Hi! I'll take a good look at the article tomorrow. In the mean time please could you fill in those red links (or if that is not possible, replace those links by ones that already have articles). =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:24, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Indian wildlife

Thanks for the invitition. Yes, wildlife photography, learning about its habitat and generally spending quality time in Indias WLS (Karnataka's WLS, as I am a native of that state) is a passion of mine. This year I am planning on visiting Rannebennur Black Buck and Bankapura Peacock sanctuaries. I have been invloved neck deep in History related articles (another passion) and have been thinking about joining the wiki-Wildlife effort also. As soon as I get a break from what I am doing right now, I will certianly join the wildlife effort.thanks,Dineshkannambadi 19:35, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I have left a comment on Elephant population on the Kaziranga page.Dineshkannambadi 00:04, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

May I have a look at the message or any mail which grants the permission to view this image. Thanks Sushant gupta 10:56, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Red link conversions

Hi! I went on to create some articles on the fauna. See Bristled Grassbird, Marsh Babbler, Jerdon's Babbler, Blyth's Kingfisher, Chinese Pangolin, Bengal Slow Loris etc. Making stubs are not very difficult. Hope all fauna will be blue by the time the article gets to FAC. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:20, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Please correct the info on the page. India's elephant population is between 25000-30000, not 10,000.I have provided links for that.Dineshkannambadi 15:17, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello amartya, well I just wished to tell you that i have created a new portal on indian wildlife. do not move the portal to protected areas of india. I tried to do it but an error is shown and the whole portal looks ulk..... kindly do take a look at the portal. thanks Sushant gupta 12:31, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

sorry i didn't get exactly what you wanted to say. did you mean that we should create one more portal on PA of India. well there is no problem but see when we create portals, we should keep in mind that we are able to update it regularly. do you remember i created a portal on indian independence movement and you too accompanied me. now the portal is in pethitic state. what i mean to say is that no one is bothered to update the portal. soon i'll be updating it. don't worry. oh yes, kindly check your mail (most prefereably on 26th). also do inform me before creating portal. if you would be having any problem I'll might help you out. Thanks, Sushant gupta 11:54, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey bro! Nominating the first FAC was NOT a fault. It was unfortunate from the part of the whole Indian wikiproject community that the article could not be properly developed during the first FAC :( Bole to, thanks a lot for your enthusiasm (vinamrata ke sath)! When do you think Kaziranga could go for FAC? I've asked the same question to Nichalp. He is on a short break, and expected to return by May. We can wait that long. What do you think? A new wiki just for India

www.indianotebook.org/wiki

Hey Amartyabag, I noticed that you were interested in editing India articles. I just wanted to tell you about a new wiki that a friend and I have created called India Notebook, the url of which is above. A description of our site is as follows (copy-pasted from the main page): About Us: The ultimate aim of India Notebook is to document each and every little thing in India. From shops to restaurants to your local paanwalla in your hometown, India Notebook will have an entry on it so that anytime you find yourself wanting to go to, say, a new restaurant in your town, just log on, search for restaurants in your town and browse away. All we need is a little help from you. Just add all your favourite hangouts, restaurants etc etc and slowly but surely, we will have documented everything there is to see and do in India for anyone to reference, anywhere and anytime. Soon a visitor to Bombay will be able to simply come here and check out the hottest clubs, best eateries and coolest Museums without buying a guidebook. Anything and everything you want to know about a city will be right here, written by the locals.

Come and contribute. Review your favourite pubs/restaurants so that people get up-to-date information about any place in india from the locals. And also tell any friends of yours who edit wikipedia to come help out here. We're also thinking of integrating Google maps into the site, so that you can view the location of any place described on the site. Don't hesitate to contact me at chaita@gmail.com

Best,

FAC

I will do a bit later -I did happen to speak to Dwaibayan about it - not directly I just referred to it as a national park -it looked very good to me this is why I asked him or you to summarize Wildlife of India to make it the full length article it can clearly be. I'm about to start an article on camel farming in Sudan!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 16:28, 28 April 2007 (UTC) Chaitanya Netkalappa University of Chicago Class of 2010 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.135.199.44 (talk) 21:56, 27 April 2007 (UTC).

Your edit to Aphania

Message posted on Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Aphania. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://zipcodezoo.com/Plants/U/Urvillea_andersonii.asp in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Aphania with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Aphania with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:Aphania saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.

It is also important that all Wikipedia articles have an encyclopedic tone and follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your original contributions are welcome.

Lage Raho FA

Thanks for your support in the Lage Raho FAC! -Classicfilms 07:07, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

It's great to hear your interest. well, we have articles for each of the "Landform of West Bengal". In this article, first we have to populate this subsections (Darjeeling Himalayan hill region, Rarh region etc). Next is agro-climatic gropus (I remember I added them from "West Bengal Human Development Report 2004". The reference is there. That should be read and, if possible, some materials added to the article (otherwise the section looks listy).

Regarding the structure of the article, Geography of India (which is a FA) should act as a guide. So, let's do one thing. First, let's create the structure per Geography of India. Though all sections would not have content, we'll have an idea how the contents can be presented. Please go ahead, I'm feeling excited!--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:50, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Wow! You made that map! Looks excellent. Please go on adding stuffs to the article.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:05, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

It's not a topic I'd normally review, however, considering you've been waiting for almost a month, I'll go ahead and review it later today. --LaraLoveTalk/Contribs 05:22, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Kaziranga

Congrats .. it would never have got there had it not been for you and a handful of others who worked hard on it. I couldnt work on it after an initial spurt .. the group needs to work on some other high profile national park in India .. Kanha / Ranthambhore / Silent Valley / Periyar comes to mind. ray 02:15, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Copyright violation in Project Elephant

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. • a) Sorry for using User page not Talk page. b) I don't think I deleted any content. c) I did check the History, but it was confusing as to who had added what, so I took my best guess. (Just trying to reduce the copy-editing backlog !) thisisace 01:12, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: Critical attention

Hi! thanks for the reminder. I am worried about Kalimpong, Sikkim, Gangtok. They are lacking citations. But Kolkata is relatively better positioned. Culture section may be a pain. Otherwise I can manage it, given some time. Please try to provide citations to all these articles. Thanks a lot. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:40, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Marcus334, South India PA photographs

Amartyabag,

I certainly agree that we need more PA FA articles on India. There are not even any A or GA articles. I will be seeking locally available documentation and taking photos on Protected areas of Tamil Nadu and Protected areas of Kerala to try to do some upgrades, especially of Silent Valley National Park and Western Ghats.

I would love to visit North Bengal. The closest I ever came was Calcutta for a few days, though my brother did manage to get to Nepal and see the Himalayas. I'm afraid that will have to wait for another year. My wife would love to play golf at Naldehra golf course near Shimla. She's not coming on this trip though.

After I get some crash Tamil Language review tutoring and some dental work done in Chennai, I plan to spend at least 4 months in several National parks and Wildlife sanctuaries, trekking extensively. The contiguous areas of:

Google searches of any PA's always put Wikipedia articles at or near the top. I thus believe that, by improving the quality of articles of PA's in the Western Ghats, I can help to stimulate public awareness of these areas and provoke action to reverse intrusion and degradation of them. Think globally, act locally.
