You're putting in some good effort, there. I've skimmed rather than gone through your work in detail, but a couple of points to watch out for 1) overlinking eg thornycroft is linked several times 2) checking your wikilinks eg Thornycroft goes to the lorry business side and not the ships, but Combined operation could go to Combined Operations Headquarters I'll have a run through later as I've spotted a couple of formatting issues. As with Graeme I notice some wikilinking issues. Multiple redlinks do not look good (in my opinion) so unless there is a reasonable chance that those pages will be created they should probably be delinked. Also only the first occurence should be linked. Some parts of the article, particularly the overview, are not written in an encyclopedic style and could be tidied up. Also the referencing needs to be consolidated (see Wikipedia:References#Shortened footnotes). All in all the article is much improved, good work! No problem, didn't want to step on your toes, but thought I might help out. You can adjust the size by increasing/decreasing the number next to "px", and substitute "right" for "left" if you want the image on the other side of the article. RAN/RNZN LCA info

Hello. Following Jim Sweeney (talk · contribs)'s request on your behalf regarding the Royal Australian Navy and Royal New Zealand Navy in regards to the Landing Craft Assault, I did a bit of digging. I'm personally doubtful that either navy operated these vessels... individual personnel (such as Cook during Operation Biting) may have commanded or worked on individual vessels, but these personnel would have been on exchange to the Royal Navy, and operated the craft under that jurisdiction.

There is no mention of the vessels in the RAN centennary history, or the Oxford Companion to Australian Military History. There are a few books at the library I want to check before definitely stating that the RAN as a navy never used the LCAs, and they will probably answer the New Zealand question as well. I've checked Ross Gillet's three books (Warships of Australia, Australian & New Zealand warships, 1914-1945, and Australian & New Zealand warships since 1946). There is no mention of the LCA for either navy, although the RAN did operate LCM6s, LCM8s, and LCVPs. Based on this, I'd be fairly confident in removing the two navies from the "Operators" list in the article...if sources come to light showing that the RAN or RNZN did in fact use these landing craft, it can easily be re-added. -- saberwyn 06:48, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

The Australian Army had a large fleet of small assault craft, and the Australian War Memorial's online collection database has some photos of what are labeled Australian Army LCAs in Bougainville (for instance this photo). I think that most of the Australian Army craft were local designs though. Royal Marine-manned LCAs also appear to have reached Australia in 1945 (see this and this photo) of Australian infantry training with a British LCA in Queensland. Ramped Cargo Lighter

Hello, Well congrats on you new wikkipage, I like it. I like the fact that you are highlighting a Canadian contribution to the WWII effort that would normally be forgotten. Looks like you and I have the same reference book, Leslie Roberts', Canada's War at Sea, I have a first edition 1944 in two volumes (first volume written by Stephen Leacock). As for photographs, I would suggest that you put your photo question to the copyright mavins who hang out in the Wikki help area. The photo in the ad on page 93 of Canada's War at Sea would be a prefect illustration to your page and you may be able to claim "fair use" but I'm not sure. I too have a bunch of shots that I'd like to use on my HMCS Prince David (F89) page but I'm not confident they'ed get passed the copyright bots. I did a quick search for RCL's in the British Columbia Photo Archives and the North Vancouver Archives to no avail. Next time over in NV I'll pop in and have a look in their archives for photos (they have a photo of HMCS PD during 1943 refit that I'd like to have). You my have seen this model of a RCL on the Imperial War Museum page http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30018343 Pretty detailed, they might give you permission to use the image. I would suspect they may have some plans laying around too. Ramped Cargo Lighter Image

Hello AmesJussellR... With regards to your message of 8 November 2012, I see that your scan of the Ramped Cargo Lighter is in jeopardy of being deleted from Wiki Commons due to insufficient copyright info. I too am no expert on these matters, but I have had some luck with using Canadian Copyright tags from the Commons:Copyright_tags page. You might try PD-Canada-anon (for works where the author or authors are unknown, and 50 years have passed since their publication or 75 since their creation). Gray Marine does not exist anymore and according to Wikipedia, it was purchases by Continental Motors in 1944 and fazed out as a brand in 1967. It might be an interesting project to contact Continental's PR or media department too see if they have the original photo or are willing to give permission for it's use. http://www.genuinecontinental.aero/ Hope this helps. User group for Military Historians

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
• updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. April 2021 WikiProject Military History Reviewing Drive

Hey y'all, the April 2021 WikiProject Military History Reviewing Drive begins at 00:01 UTC on April 1, 2021 and runs through 23:59 UTC on April 31, 2021. Points can be earned through reviewing articles on the AutoCheck report, reviewing articles listed at WP:MILHIST/ASSESS, reviewing MILHIST-tagged articles at WP:GAN or WP:FAC, and reviewing articles submitted at WP:MILHIST/ACR. Service awards and barnstars are given for set points thresholds, and the top three finishers will receive further awards.
