@Valfontis: Hello! Glad to see you editing. I'm going through the list of OE subjects and seeing which ones are missing here. I'm skipping some, but I also hope to create many new stubs. Cool! I don't think those things ever get much traction anymore but a list would be handy. If @Tedder: or @EncMstr: or somebody still had the time to run some sort of script that compared WP:ORE's list with what OE has, I would find that mighty interesting. I have a list of all the topics the Oregon Companion has that we don't, which has been getting chipped away at slowly. You just knocked off one from that list with Leo Adler. Okay, I created an XML list of all 1498 articles presently listed (it required 26 copy and pastes). It will take some work to match them (or not) with Wikipedia articles because the articles sometimes are sometimes creatively named. Like Creation of Washington Territory, 1853. I'll toy with some rules to translate most of the names correctly and post a table that people can work on. —EncMstr (talk) 23:30, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

You're welcome. I am 25% through the transformation but have to stop for the evening. It is more tedious than I expected because OE is inconsistent in their naming. Often people have years (Joe Jones (1790-1850)), but sometimes they do not. Sometimes it is Community of Sometown; other times it is Sometown. Then there are topics like East Indians of Oregon and the Ghadar Party which I try a few guesses, but I'm just going to leave it redlinked. Nomination of LGBT culture in Vancouver for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article LGBT culture in Vancouver is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/LGBT culture in Vancouver until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Existence of LGBT culture challenged

AB, I commented at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/LGBT culture in Vancouver as you probably noticed. I wonder if it's worth a village pump discussion to try to head off meritless challenges. Thinking out loud, if a community has official recognition (this image for example) then it could be presumed notable? Have you had this issue with other geo-based LGBT culture articles? - Bri (talk) 19:47, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

@Bri: Thanks for commenting. I don't think you could get buy-in re: presumed notability, and actually even I would argue that WP:GNG is what's most important. But come on... deleting an article about LGBT culture in Vancouver? That's absolutely absurd, and frankly the discussion is just a waste of editors' time. Sometimes (not in this case) I think some subtle anti-LGBT bias comes into play, but what's even more frustrating is how often articles are immediately nominated for deletion, which then prompts drive-by votes to delete articles. It's quite obnoxious, but I've learned to not take things personally and just let folks do what they please -- I'll spend my energy elsewhere. If the community isn't really to dedicate itself towards covering certain topics, then I can't spend my time fighting to save every single article, even when I know a topic is notable. The community will get around to covering the topic eventually. I know I create a lot of stubs, and sometimes I should spend more time expanding articles to reduce the number of AfD notifications on my talk page, but in the end, the vast majority of stubs I create are kept. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:55, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
BTW, it's quite remarkable how many major cities don't have articles about LGBT culture or the history of the local gay community (see here, for a few examples). Much, much work to be done, but sometimes filling in those gaps is difficult when editors face unnecessary resistance. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:57, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
I hear you, one must pick battles. I do think the community might be open to the idea that, say, the top 20 metro regions of North America have presumed notability for LGBT culture of <region>, and further pointless debates can be avoided. - Bri (talk) 20:01, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
@Bri: I do think each of these cities would qualify for articles, but I don't think the community would endorse presumed notability, nor do I know where this discussion would take place. I see that you recreated this. Please note that it was removed as the result of a consensus reached at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2017 June 22. Please do not recreate it. If you believe you have new sources which would demonstrate notability and address the concerns raised at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bust of Cristiano Ronaldo, please start a discussion on Talk:Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport to try to gain consensus for that. @RoySmith: I don't see anything wrong with recreating a draft for future expansion, but I'll leave this alone for a while. I still think the community's getting this one wrong (sure, the football fans may not see a need for this, but for folks like me who work on sculpture and public art, this is plenty of coverage to justify an article), but if we need to wait a bit more time for more coverage of the sculpture, post-April, that's fine. It may well be that they've got it wrong, but community consensus is the process we use. If you believe the consensus is not correct, a discussion at Talk:Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport would be the right thing to do next. But, considering that there's already been a discussion there which resulted in a decision to merge, and an AfD which came to the same conclusion, and a deletion review which endorsed that conclusion, I think it's time for you to just accept that and move on. -- RoySmith (talk) 18:29, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

I'm sorry that the deletion review went against your article, and I share your suspicion that the outcome may have been swayed by editors that specialise in football judging it to be unnecessary trivia. I encourage you add a section to Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport on the sculpture and on the reactions to it.

I don't want to add to your disappointments, but in my view Emanuel Santos does not meet the notability guidelines (WP:BIO or WP:ARTIST). If you agree then I suggest you convert it to a redirect to Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, where Santos should be named. Verbcatcher (talk) 19:30, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

@Verbcatcher: Thanks. Like I said, above, I'll revisit the sculpture article in the future. Actually, I'd argue that the artist article should be kept now that more than one of his works have received significant coverage. Perhaps info about the bust is better there than at the airport article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:47, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
We need at least a paragraph on the sculpture in the airport article – perhaps people travelling through the airport will read the article and be prompted to look for the sculpture. The coverage of the sculpture of Gareth Bale is probably not sufficient to support an article on Santos. It appears to be a publicity stunt by Paddy Power (their logo was on the base of the sculpture), and I don't think the sculpture is on permanent display.[1] The coverage on the Bale statue was mainly referring back to the Ronaldo sculpture. If you created substantially the same article as Emanuel Santos then you would be open to accusations of subverting a deletion decision by recreating an article under a new name. WikiCup 2017 July newsletter

The third round of the competition has finished in a flurry of last minute activity, with 288 points being required to qualify for round 4. It was a hotly competitive round with all but four of the contestants exceeding the 106 points that was necessary to proceed to round 4 last year. Coemgenus and Freikorp tied on 288, and both have been allowed to proceed, so round 4 now has one pool of eight competitors and one of nine.

Round 3 saw the achievement of a 26-topic Featured topic by MPJ-DK as well as 5 featured lists and 13 featured articles. PanagiotisZois and SounderBruce achieved their first ever featured articles. Carbrera led the GA score with 10, Tachs achieved 17 DYKs and MBlaze Lightning 10 In the news items. There were 167 DYKs, 93 GARs and 82 GAs overall, this last figure being higher than the number of GAs in round 2, when twice as many people were taking part. Even though contestants performed more GARs than they achieved GAs, there was still some frustration at the length of time taken to get articles reviewed.

As we start round 4, we say goodbye to the fifteen or so competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them (some people have fallen foul of this rule and the points have been removed).

If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Virgin and Child with Canon van der Paele

Please don't use fixed image sizes, but |upright=, to adjust to readers preferences, - generally. For such a detailed painting, a large size (1.5) is in order. A model for a piece of art is Crucifix (Cimabue, Santa Croce), one for a painting Sorrow (Van Gogh): the facts should not be in the caption, but in the parameters. You could propose that on the talk. You could also leave things as they are. I did not raise the topic in the FAC which I reviewed, intentionally so ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:27, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: Thanks for stopping by. I rarely use fixed image sizes, and I changed some of the images at Virgin and Child with Canon van der Paele to regular 'upright' because they were way too big. I still think the imagery throughout the article is not ideal, but I've moved on to other articles. I think this one could use an inbox, but I also recognize that some editors don't think every article needs an infobox. I made my edits, and others can approve or reject. @Rubix99: Sure! So, usually we use the inline version of the template when there is no other content in the "External links" section. This way, there is not just a floating Commons box on the right side of the page, underneath the section heading which is over on the left side of the page. Bullseye Glass

The uncited material related to Klaus Moje and the original development of Bullseye's compatable glass is substantially true. It is related (also without citation) in the Klaus Moje article (which 50.53.100.150 should have wiki-linked). I believe citations exist for this material, in published Moje biographies. I have revision of the Moje article on my "work list", and will add Bullseye as well. Robert E. Lee's house

Montreal public art

I really appreciate what you do but I gotta say, I don't believe relatively minor works like Guy Lafleur (sculpture) merit articles. And I say this as having been a mammoth Lafleur fan when he played. I certainly won't take these to Afd but I suspect they'd fail GNG and WP:GEOFEAT. Anyway, my two cents. Will have to disagree with Shawn, many sport stadiums include statues of their former stars, and these statues and other honoring are represented on Wikipedia. batch of minimal NRHP articles

Hi, I want to ask you to agree to my redirecting nine minimal NRHP articles which you created on fire stations in Birmingham, Alabama, back in 2012:

I believe you had good intentions, but the effect was to undermine another editor's approach, Historic fire stations of Birmingham, Alabama, which served as a good treatment for all of them. You replaced redirects to that page with minimal articles that have less information than on that list-article page (less about each one of them, and also less in the sense that the list-article provides useful context for all of them, not available at separate pages). So in fact readers at the corresponding NRHP list-article will find their way to the separate articles, rather than the good treatment at the list-article. I would rather redirect them to the appropriate rows in the list-article.

The nine articles constitute all of the "NRIS-only" problem articles in Alabama; they each display "This article relies entirely upon a single source, the National Register Information System (NRIS) database or one of its mirrors. Articles based solely on the NRIS may contain errors. Please help ensure the accuracy of the information in this article by citing at least one more reliable source. (November 2013)". I and some other editors have been working to eliminate such problem articles, mostly by developing them ourselves, but deletion of such articles is another approach which I may seek for many hundreds of articles in Washington and Oregon.

You might have had intention to develop the articles, but did not. To be clear, I am not asking you to develop them now, as I believe that collective treatment in the list-article is better. Please let me know if you agree or object. If you do object, I would open a multiple-item AFD and bring the attention of more editors to bear, to obtain approval to delete/redirect them, but I don't think that should be necessary. Actually it looks like the other editor created Historic fire stations of Birmingham, Alabama in 2014, and then redirected the nine articles, and that you reverted those redirects. I don't see where it was discussed, if anywhere, back then. By the way I am developing NRHP articles in Idaho and encountering many minimal stubs which you created including 29 "NRIS-only" ones in National Register of Historic Places listings in Jerome County, Idaho; i am kind of torn about seeking deletion of them or developing them. --doncram 17:33, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

(edit conflict)@Doncram: Thanks for writing. I find these stations independently notable, so I'd suggest keeping the separate articles for future development. Nominating for deletion is not appropriate, since merging is an option and these pages would serve as functional/valid redirects. I assume a merge nomination would be successful, since editors tend not to prefer keeping stubs, but the fact that they're all independently notable may result in keep votes. Take whichever action you think is best, but since you asked for my opinion, I'd prefer the separate articles be kept and improved. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:35, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for your prompt reply. I will proceed with merging/redirecting (effectively the same). AFD is the forum for seeing to elimination of articles by outright deletion, by merger/redirect, or by other options. Technically it is possible that expanded articles could be developed, but that can be done more naturally by splitting them out of the list-article if/when too much is developed there. There is no plausibility IMO that anyone is more likely to develop them because there exist minimal stub articles; the more likely (though still unlikely) scenario is that someone could be interested in the list-article and develop it more. --doncram 17:42, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

No, I do not agree to post at the list-article talk page and wait. Spyder Monkey already defended, in 2014, their decision. And I do not believe there is anyone following the Talk pages of those articles. An AFD process would require posting notice at all of those articles though.
Nor do I agree to seek wp:NRHP feedback about simply this, because I think others there will agree with me, while you may express disagreement there, and then it would have to go to AFD. If you want to object you may insist upon an AFD process, which is the right forum to actually settle this, if there is disagreement. I thought you were agreeing, although reluctantly, here.
For your information, I am considering going to some larger forum, certainly with notice to wt:NRHP, about the many hundreds of minimal stub NRHP articles in Oregon and Washington. I am not sure. But this small set of Alabama articles is different (where development of the articles is not wanted because list-article treatment exists and is better) and simpler to take care of on its own. I am trying to clean it up as a loose end. I suggest you let this go and that you consider what you want with respect to the many hundreds of others. For example, would you consider cooperating in actually developing them, or would you agree to their all being deleted. --doncram 18:11, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

FYI, I have gone ahead with the merger/redirects, which included adding three pics and several mentions of modern fire stations to the "Historic fire stations" list-article. That covered all the available info in the separate articles, besides a few pics of the non-notable modern replacement stations which are not usable. I'm hoping to solicit your feedback regarding a handout Wiki Education is developing for students who want to work on articles about history-related topics: User:Ryan (Wiki Ed)/History.
