Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Appalachianheritage", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because Wikipedia accounts must be for individuals only, who are personally responsible for them, and accounts whose usernames are the names of groups or organizations are not permitted.

Your username may be based on your real name, or not, as you prefer (see WP:REALNAME for some considerations), but it should not be the name of any group or organization or of any other living person, and should represent only you as an individual. A username of the form "Robert at Appalachian Heritage" would be perfectly acceptable, and would serve to make your affiliation clear.

Also, you should understand that Wikipedia is not a place for people or organizations to "tell the world" about themselves. There are sites like Facebook and Myspace for that. Even with an individual username, in editing about Appalachian Heritage you would have, from our point of view, a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, and should read that page and the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide.

If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 17:35, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you.
