WP India Tagging on new articles

[edit]

Hi , Aravind V R, I just wanted to remind you not to forget to add the tag {{WP India}} the talk pages of India related articles that you create, actually i was browsing some of the Indian articles that were still untagged with {{WP India}}, and found that you had created them. Please note that this tagging helps a lot in improving the articles by attracting Indian editors to the article. At last i would request you to please consider patrolling the talk pages of articles [1] for tagging it with {{WP India}}, keep up the good work, thanks and regards ---- ÐℬigXЯaɣ 08:05, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi DBigXray, this is in reference of your post on my talk page. I was unaware of that. I used to think it is the reviewers/patrolmen who do this tagging. Thanks for the info. I'll (try to) add the tag from now on. Aravind V R (talk) 08:16, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is a difference between Tagging and assessment, it is very important for you to place the tag {{WP India}} for any india related article that you create or come across that does not have it already. -- ÐℬigXЯaɣ 08:20, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • what is your reply about patrolling the talk pages of articles [2] for tagging it with {{WP India}}, ??-- ÐℬigXЯaɣ 08:27, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • you should also learn to properly categorise and tag the articles that you create, if you have autopatrolled rights then they will not be patrolled by others and so they will be left un attedended, hope you got my point.
Wikipedia:NPP#Patroller_checklists IS a good place to understand what basic things to check and include in your newly created article -- ÐℬigXЯaɣ 08:34, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Actually till now I wasn't much concerned about wikifying stuff since I wasn't that regular and didn't have autopatrolling rights. But yesterday I applied for autopatrolling rights and I plan to be more regular in this. I am aware that much of the talkpages for articles I created might not have been tagged. But some important work is coming up for me in the next few weeks. After that I can do the tagging. Aravind V R (talk) 08:39, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi, I noticed you removed the suspected copyright violation tag from National Commission for Protection of Child Rights with an edit summary indicating you dispute it. There is a chunk of text that is clearly copied from an Indian Gov't domain, is there some provision of Indian law that would make copying the text not be copyright violation? Monty845 02:07, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have responded to that here. The intro contains some basic facts regarding the commission viz, the act behind it date of enactment etc. It is the definition given to the commission by the government. Wouldn't it be wrong to write it in my own words? As you can see the rest of the article is in my own words. I'm copying this discussion to the talk page in case anyone else has the same concern. Hi, just letting you know that I have reverted your addition of Category:2002 Gujarat riots to the above-mentioned article since the category refers to an event or series of incidents which happened in the past, while the page Narendra Modi is a biography of an individual. Hence the category does not qualify for inclusion on that page. — Nearly Headless Nick {c} 19:12, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is no such rule against including a biography to category of an event. You can search and find any number of such instances in wiki. For instance Category:1984 anti-Sikh riots -- Aravind V R (talk) 19:23, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please review WP:BLPCAT. — Nearly Headless Nick {c} 19:51, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do you really think that I hadn't read this? The limitation is mainly against "Categories regarding religious beliefs or sexual orientation should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified" and adding under groups such as Criminals which are defamatory. This particular category is concerned with an event and every person associated with it are included (even the then DGP Sreekumar). Aravind V R (talk) 20:00, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I think you need to go and have a look again. This category does not pertain to the notability of the individual concerned. He is notable as the chief minister of Gujarat and not because of the incidents of violence in the state. There have been no convictions or rulings with reference to his alleged involvement in the incidents of violence either.
A general principle on Wikipedia is that policy and guideline pages are intended to be descriptive, not prescriptive and therefore they must be read in context.
"Caution should be used with categories that suggest a person has a poor reputation (see false light). For example, Category:Criminals and its subcategories should only be added for an incident that is relevant to the person's notability; the incident was published by reliable third-party sources; the subject was convicted; and the conviction was not overturned on appeal." (emphasis mine)
For instance, the biography of George W. Bush does not include categories with references to Iraq War, or for that matter, the biography of Indira Gandhi does not contain category references to 1984 Anti-Sikh riots. Please use caution while editing biographies of living people. Thanks. — Nearly Headless Nick {c} 20:26, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on National Competition Policy (India) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello. I undid this edit of yours without much of an edit summary for the following reasons: 1) You changed just one sentence of the article into a "the Nazis did it" statement, whereas the entire article details the "NKVD did it" one. This makes no sense, as you'd have to completely rewrite the article to reflect the change. 2) You also added Stalin's personal correspondence with Churchill to support your change, which doesn't make sense either, since it's a) a primary source and b) a statement by one of the main perpetrators of the massacre (bit of a conflict of interest there). 3) To top it all off, you claimed that the edited sentence is "fascist propaganda", which is incorrect, since the Nazis did not know about the other two execution sites, which were discovered only when the primary documents pertaining to the massacre were declassified in 1992. Because of all that I assumed this was obvious drive by trolling. However, judging by your user page and edit history, your edit was prompted by lack of knowledge of subject matter, hence this longer response. You are welcome to further alleviate the lack of knowledge by reading past the first few sentences of the article as well as examining the wealth of provided sources. Hope this helps. --illythr (talk) 20:29, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You wrote this article a couple of years ago. It seems to be copy and paste from http://www.mha.nic.in/uniquepage.asp?ID_PK=469, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. I couldn't figure out how to rewrite it so rather than just delete the article I've templated it and will list it at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2013 September 30. If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following: I looked at the website's copyright policy and it is clearly copyright.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Inter State Council saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, sorry to drop this on you. Happy editing! Dougweller (talk) 12:26, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen your note on my talk page. It's not public domain. The page at [3] says clearly "Material on this site is subject to copyright protection unless otherwise indicated. The material may be downloaded without requiring specific prior permission.Any other proposed use of the material is subject to the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs.Application for obtaining permission should be made to the concerned Divisional Head / Joint Secretary." In any case, why have an article if it's just a copy of a web page? It could be a link at some other page on India. WP:ORG says "An organization is generally considered notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources." If this organisation can't be written by using reliable, independent secondary sources than the article shouldn't exist, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't do that. In any case, the article as it stands is a copyright violation. Dougweller (talk) 14:45, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You have moved the page from Marichjhapi massacre to Marichjhapi incident. Please refer to this TOI article which refer to the 'incident' as massacre. Apart from that the article by Ross Mallick published by The Journal of Asian Studies also call it as massacre. I wonder why you are ignoring this sources and calling this a cooked up story? A tag has been placed on N. S. Memorial Institute of Medical Sciences, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". The article N. Sreedharan has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. - McMatter (talk)/(contrib) 21:14, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:11, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article CPIM (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Disambiguation page not required (WP:ONEOTHER). Primary topic redirect points to an article with a hatnote to the only other use.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
