Please fix your edits of Islington Workshops article

[edit]

Hello Armoured Jupiter, There are several things that need reversing or fixing among your recent edits to this article:

  • Information deleted from the infobox needs to be restored. I'm not sure why you have changed to an Australian Place infobox, but as you'll see, there is a problem with an unknown parameter. You might be better with Infobox Factory, as with Eveleigh Railway Workshops.
  • Your citations do not provide ready access to the sources because they are incomplete. For example, your citation, "A History of the South Australian Railways, Volume 5, 2011, p.136" doesn't state the author or publisher. It should be worded as

    {{cite book|title= A history of the South Australian Railways volume 5: controversy and Mr Webb |last= Stewien|first= Ron |date= 2011 |location= Matraville NSW |publisher= Eveleigh Press |isbn= 9781876568610 }}</ref>{{rp|136}}

    The "rp" coding allows you to show the page number in the body text but not have multiple lines of citation for the same work. To do that, give the first <ref> a name, such as "<ref name=SARhistoryVol5>", then for subsequent references just write "<ref name=SARhistoryVol5/>" followed by the new page number, for example "<ref name=SARhistoryVol5/>{{rp|138}}".
  • Headings should follow title case. Why have "Islington workshops" as a level 3 heading?
  • Terms such as "SA Gazette & Colonial Register", Gawler etc etc should be linked to their articles. For example, the newspaper should be coded as

    <ref>{{cite news |title= Sales by auction |newspaper=[[South Australian Register|South Australian Gazette and Colonial Register]] |url= https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/31750481?searchTerm=islington |volume= II |issue=61 |location=(Original, Adelaide. Digital reproduction, Canberra|publisher=National Library of Australia – [[Trove]] digital newspaper archive) |date=23 March 1839 |page=3 |access-date=7 August 2024}}</ref>

  • A particularly important link that needs to be included is to Webb. Without it, the reader won't know what the "Webb era" of profound change means.
  • You need to check terminology before you hit "Publish" -- random examples I see are "Victorian Railway Department", "defense", "center"and other US spellings.

I hope you take my comments positively, as they are meant. They reflect the fact that writing for Wikipedia is hard yakka, in no small measure because of citations and other conventions designed to achieve a degree of consistency in quality. Please post here back if you want to communicate; I'll watch for a while. Cheers, Simon – SCHolar44 🇦🇺 💬 at 14:09, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
