Question from Rajkaushikkk on Wikipedia:About (07:24, 21 September 2021)

Hello, how can i edit an locked page like Assam or kolkata? How can i unlock the edit page? --Rajkaushikkk (talk) 07:24, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Rajkaushikkk, and sorry for answering late, I was busy today. There are two parts to you're question I think, editing a page protected (locked) at a higher level than you have, and how to lower the protection on a page. To answer the first, you can leave a Edit request on the page's talk page which is most easily done via the Edit Request Wizard. If you instead want to have an page unprotected, you'll first need to check which administrator placed the protection, by clicking the more menu and then selecting the log button, and then leaving a message on their talkpage, a link to which can be found in the relevant log entry. -- Asartea Talk | Contribs 14:57, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Arbitration

  • A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
  • Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
  • The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.

Miscellaneous

  • Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.

Question from RJ Raawat (08:05, 8 October 2021)

Hi,

I want to make a page about NGO, is it possible for me? The non governmental organization is register with Indian Government. and it is also have certified from Income tax act of 80G and 12A. But I am not sure that it is enough to publish a page about this NGO. Pls help me --RJ Raawat (talk) 08:05, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi @RJ Raawat generally speaking you will need to find several reliable sources which are independent of the subject, and discuss it in depth. (from Wikipedia's guideline on the notability of companies). If its only registered with the government that is almost certainly not enough to prove its a notable company. -- Asartea Talk | Contribs 08:26, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

: Active discussion on Playboy introduction

Hello Asartea. This is Zach from PLBY Group. You helped me with an edit request I made for the Playboy article a few months back. There's currently an active discussion I'm having with another editor on whether the introduction should identify Playboy as a lifestyle brand, in addition to its origins as a magazine. We're looking for some extra opinions, and I thought you might be willing to weigh in. If so, you can find the discussion here. Thanks! PLBY ZG (talk) 23:21, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this year's WikiCup, whether they made it to the final round or not, and particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup, some of whom did very well. Wikipedia has benefitted greatly from the quality creations, expansions and improvements made, and the numerous reviews performed. Thanks to all who have taken part and helped out with the competition, not forgetting User:Jarry1250, who runs the scoring bot.

If you have views on whether the rules or scoring need adjustment for next year's contest, please comment on the WikiCup talk page. Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2022 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! Your revert

"Wikipedia list article" is the standard short description for lists. --🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 15:41, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

@Chicdat yes it is. Its also incredibly useless to readers, and should never be used when a better and more descriptive short description is available. -- Asartea Talk | Contribs 15:47, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
Where's the discussion for this? 🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 18:16, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) @Chicdat - I'm not sure we need an explicit consensus that something like "List of notable tornadoes occurring in 2008" is better than the effectively content-free "Wikipedia list article". As far as I know, list articles don't need a short description at all (see WP:SDNONE), but if they're going to have one (was there a specific discussion that said that tornado lists need one? I'm not really active in that area), we should at least try to make them useful to our readers. firefly ( t · c ) 18:46, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

Article on Nazia Hassan

User @Kasim8999 & @Limited Idea4me is vandalizing the facts. The marriage record provided on website can be added easily by paying some fee. And continuous editing the same thing again and again even after removing several time showing the criminal acts of users. These users can be easily judged that they are targeting Queen of hearts. Authentic media or newspaper never reported such marriage. A researcher and documentary maker on Nazia Hassan's life ahmad_haseeb never talked about such facts. It is very clear that article has been vandalized as personal target. Interestingly New York marriage records are mentioning Nazia's marriage with Ishtiaq baig but the marriage was took place at Pakistan and in London. New York marriages record keep the records of marriages that took place in New York only. Website resource is not authentic and it can be distorted for personal benefits.

Visa requirements for Serbian citizens

Hello, may i ask why did you remove flags from this wiki section ? I can remove flags from "future" section, but i think it looks much better and cleaner on "Recent" section. ~SonePFC — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sonepfc (talkcontribs) 12:45, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Sonepfc. I removed the images because having these kind of images in the prose of a article tends to disrupt the flow of reading and makes it harder for the reader to stay focused on the text. Because of this the Manual of Style explicitly forbids the inclusion of such images (see MOS:NOICONS). -- Asartea Talk | Contribs 14:34, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Question from Gallodrow on User:Gallodrow/sandbox (22:36, 16 January 2022)

Hello! I was trying to learn to use div column and made a mistake. All of my references from the bottom of the article ended up in the columns and now they have disappeared completely. I don't know how to find them. I've got other problems with my divided columns.. --Gallodrow (talk) 22:36, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Gallodrow, am I correct in thinking your references have reappeared? Your issue with {{div col}} is that you forgot to add {{div col end}} at the end of the exhibitions section, so it continued on to the end of the page, causing the bugs you observed. WikiCup 2022 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the WikiCup. Last year anyone who scored more than zero points moved on to Round 2, but this was not the case this year, and a score of 13 or more was required to proceed. The top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, a finalist last year, who led the field with 1906 points, gained from 32 GAs and 19 DYKs, all on the topic of New York buildings.
  • Christmas Island AryKun, new to the contest, was second with 1588 points, having achieved 2 FAs, 11 GAs and various other submissions, mostly on the subject of birds.
  • Kingdom of Scotland Bloom6132, a WikiCup veteran, was in third place with 682 points, garnered from 51 In the news items and several DYKs.
  • Philadelphia GhostRiver was close behind with 679 points, gained from achieving 12 GAs, mostly on ice hockey players, and 35 GARs.
  • United Nations Kavyansh.Singh was in fifth place with 551 points, with an FA, a FL, and many reviews.
  • SounderBruce was next with 454 points, gained from an FA and various other submissions, mostly on United States highways.
  • United Nations Ktin, another WikiCup veteran, was in seventh place with 412 points, mostly gained from In the news items.

These contestants, like all the others who qualified for Round 2, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews of a large number of good articles as the contest ran concurrently with a GAN backlog drive. Well done all! To qualify for Round 3, contestants will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two participants.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Anything that should have been claimed for in Round 1 is no longer eligible for points. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from Tombritchi (20:56, 7 February 2022)

I've been trying to create a page for myself on Wikipedia. I'm new to Wikipedia so please bear with me. Could you let me know *specifically* what I did wrong in the most recent edit which you have once again removed? I took out the link to my website from the previous submission, which I can see could be considered self-promotion. However, the rest of the article was merely a summary of my life thus far, a biography if you will. Please let me know what I need to do to have it approved and not deleted yet again. I'm also not sure how my editing is "disruptive" as you claimed in your message. I'm certainly not trying to be disruptive.
