Myakka City

I don't mean "standard" in the sense of "required by policy", but in the sense of "the way things are generally done". If you look at virtually any non-stub community article anywhere in Florida or in any other state (with the unexplained exceptions of Michigan and Minnesota), you'll find several sets of coords. Removing because other stubs don't have them is no more sensible than it would be to remove a history section from a stub because other stubs don't have them. Nyttend (talk) 22:01, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Declined Speedy Deletion: Talk:Jesse Lee (singer)/Comments

Hello Astronaut, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I declined the speedy deletion of Talk:Jesse Lee (singer)/Comments - a page you tagged - because: Moving to the correct place is more helpful than deleting it. Masturbation talkpage

I'm almost sure your last edit to Talk:Masturbation was a mistake, since you deleted all the current conversations and restored ones from September. I just reverted the whole edit because Im not sure what you meant to do. -- Soap Talk/Contributions 14:00, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes, that was a mistake. My intention was to fix the work of a known IPvandal (88.105.18.167, in this case) who spams talk pages with many project banners of dubious relevance. Astronaut (talk) 14:07, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

I see the template spammer annoys you too.

THANK YOU

Dear Astronaut

Thank you a lot. I am new here and you are the first one who did really explained me all of it clear. I see now that it is indeed might be to earlier yet to put an article on Stress Surfing in Wikipedia. I better wait for next 1-2 years then I am sure there will be third party publication as this approach now is very much discussed as it gives new structured approach to deal with stress and shows good results. So, then I will already know how it will be better to put it (thank you ☺). Shell I delete it myself for now or it will be deleted automatically?

Looking forward to hear your comments when I’ll give it next try Ivan —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ivan Kirillov (talkcontribs) 15:20, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

You can request speedy deletion by deleting the page contents and replacing it with {{db-author}}. Astronaut (talk) 15:28, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Removal of PROD from Monopoly City

Hello Astronaut, this is an automated message from SDPatrolBot to inform you the PROD template you added to Monopoly City has been removed. It was removed by Cynical with the following edit summary '(Removed prod because although the article is short, it is already marked with a 'stub' tag which is more than sufficient response)'. Please consider discussing your concerns with Cynical before pursuing deletion further yourself. If you still think the article should be deleted after communicating with the 'dePRODer,' you may want to send the article to AfD for community discussion. Thank you, SDPatrolBot (talk) 21:07, 20 July 2009 (UTC) (Learn how to opt out of these messages)

Dermatitis herpetiformis

Hi Astronaut. I was wondering why you changed Dermatitis herpetiformis from

dapsone treatment has no effect on any enteropathy that might be present. A strict gluten-free diet ... will reduce any associated enteropathy

to

dapsone treatment has no effect on any gluten sensitivity that might be present. A strict gluten-free diet ... will reduce any associated gluten sensitivity

A GF diet does not reduce gluten sensitivity, but it does reduce the enteropathy caused by gluten sensitivity. And while it's true that dapsone treatment has no effect on gluten sensitivity, there's not much point in saying that because nothing does! The point is that dapsone treatment has no effect on enteropathy, but a GF diet does, and that's why a GF diet is needed.

I just wanted to check this with you before I change it back. Occultations (talk) 12:57, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

And I've just noticed your comment on my talk page.

You say the copyright problem was cleared up by Moonriddengirl, well that's true, but it was cleared up by removing 99% of the article! I've had in mind for some time to restore it to the usefulness it had when I first saw it.

"references be placed after punctuation" - I think it looks better the way I had it, but if that's what the MoS says ...

"line breaks which sometimes messed with the line-spacing" - I'll have to look at this again. I definitely want the sentence "Dermatitis herpetiformis responds well to medication and changes in diet." to stand in its own paragraph at the start of the treatment section. This is because if someone comes to this page and discovers for the first time that their blistering skin condition is DH (as I did some years ago), I want them to see this statement standing out to reassure them that the condition is very treatable. Occultations (talk) 13:17, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

The reason for changing enteropathy to gluten sensitivity is that the enteropathy links went to Gluten-sensitive_enteropathy which redirected to gluten sensitivity. There didn't seem to be much point in having this redirection hidden behind a medical term like "enteropathy" when readers are much more likely to to understand "gluten sensitivity". However, you are right and to he honest I didn't understand the word "enteropathy" until now. Perhaps "enteropathy" should just link to enteropathy, or be replaced with a short phrase which is more familiar to readers and explains the term (the enteropathy page itself is just a disambig page and it is unclear what the term means).
However, that is linked to my general criticism of the Dermatitis herpetiformis article (and perhaps many other disease articles as well). It appears to have been written by someone who is familiar with medical terminology and that is why I added a link to chronic and tried to add one to papulovesicular. I'm also unhappy with excoriation, but at least that has a link which explains what it means.
I initially came to the article to check out some blisters I have on occasion (they're are not "intensely itchy" and they're on the wrong parts of the body, so I don't think it's DH) and stayed to fix the punctuation issue. As for the line breaks, I can see why you would want "Dermatitis herpetiformis responds well to medication and changes in diet" to stand on its own paragraph, so please do change it. However one has to be aware of Wikipedia:Medical disclaimer. Astronaut (talk) 19:37, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
You've made some good points, which I'll address shortly. Yes, I suppose I have overdone the medical terminology. I found "excoriation" in one of the articles and liked it, but "scratching" would be much clearer.
I don't think that "Dermatitis herpetiformis responds well to medication and changes in diet" is an extravagent claim, it's simply a statement of fact, for which I've given several references. Maybe I should change it to "Dermatitis herpetiformis usually responds well ..."?
As for your blisters, if they're not extremely itchy then you haven't got DH!

Advert/Notability guidelines

Hi Astronaut,

I am a wikinewbie, and I would appreciate your help.

I have created two articles so far, about software I myself am using. One was VirtuaWin, the other Twinsplay. They are both written in a pretty laconic style - however, you have marked Twinsplay as a non-notable advert, while VirtuaWin received no such complaints.

Could you explain to me the underlying logic? How can I write these and my next articles in a better style, and make sure existing ones comply to wiki guidelines?

Thank you, Davidmireman (talk) 23:16, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

The reason for flagging Twinsplay with {{Advert}} was that I felt it looked like something written by a representative of twinsplay.com in an effort to promote sales of the product. Wikipedia is not the place to promote a product, and many editors (myself included) tend to be pretty hard on perceived advertising. Having re-read the article however, I think I may have been mistaken and have removed the {{Advert}} flag. One thing though, the final paragraph really should have some supporting evidence supplied as a reference, though I appreciate such evidence might only appear in forums and blogs, which is far from ideal and Wikipedia would prefer a more reliable source (or maybe an official FAQ would do).
As for VirtuaWin, I had never seen that article until today - I am not one of those editors who is obsessed with a single topic. Having taken a look at both articles and others in Category:Compositing window managers, I can see that you have made a better job of these two then the editors involved in similar articles. Keep up the good work. Astronaut (talk) 14:20, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Jelena Đurović

Hi Astronaut, on July 4th you raised questions about the Jelena Đurović article (Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard/Archive66). I have recently shortened the article removing what I understand was probably irrelevant information. I have also added several references and external links in English and these are now on top of those English resources that you've probably missed when you reviewed the article. The article is tagged as a possible add and notability is questioned as well by user Ukexpat. I have informed him of the changes to the article but have not received any response yet.

As I am fairly new to Wikipedia, could you please let me know what would be the procedure for removing those tags from the article? Could you review it again or does it have to be done by Ukexpat? Thanks in advance. Kalinikhta (talk) 12:09, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Your AIV report

In response to your recent report at AIV, I have blocked the IP address, but I think a range block would have to span too large a range to be useful. I think the best option is to request an edit filter. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:10, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

How do I request a filter? Astronaut (talk) 13:13, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
The page is Wikipedia:Edit filter/Requested. All it takes is a brief explanation of the problem - just the info similar to your AIV report should be enough. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:16, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Help on Y-Chromossome Aaron article

Astronaut, can you help me on the article? We have one person there that is insisting on add a setence without discussion on talkpage. This person is vandalizing the article. Thanks --MCohenNY (talk) 16:40, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

As I have said previously, editors should work towards consensus, using the article talk page to discuss changes to the article. Whilst it is frequently not necessary to discuss every edit (and there is an expectation that everyone assumes good faith); major additions, deletions, anything controversial really should be discussed first. Editors should not repeatedly revert one another's edits. This is called edit warring and is likely to get both parties blocked and the article locked from editing for increasing long periods of time.
However, if one editor is repeatedly adding their stuff without discussion and in the face of repeated removal from other editors, it is tempting to call them a vandal. Looking at the history of Y-chromosomal Aaron, I think you are concerned about edits like this one from 82.5.170.188. Unfortunately, as I have also said before, I lack the expertise in the subject matter to be able to say whether this is actually vandalism. The added sentence itself seems reasonable to me and quite different from the usual vandalism I see (things like "Matt is the coolest kid in school" or "Billy is GAY"). Instead, I think you should try harder to engage 82.5.170.188 in discussion - instead of immediately reverting their edit, add {{fact}} after the sentence in question, leave a message on their talk page at User talk:82.5.170.188 and add their talk page to your watchlist. If you really think it is important to revert their edit immediately, try putting something like "Lets discuss this on the [[Talk:Y-chromosomal Aaron|talk page]]" in the edit summary, rather than an accusation of vandalism.
Only if all attempts to engage the other party in discussion, fail, then add a user warning to their talk page. Normal practice is to give them 4 warnings (see {{uw-vandalism1}}, {{uw-vandalism2}}, etc.) and on the fifth instance go to WP:AIV to request an admins "do something" about the persistant vandalism. Astronaut (talk) 21:51, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Astronaut. I already left the {{uw-vandalism1}} and 2, this user insist on the same mistake, by adding sentence on his or her own. This person is not login, and it is vandalizing the article for a long time. I urge you to help freeze the article and leave the discussion page for further debates. Regards. --MCohenNY (talk) 20:04, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
I added a message to User talk:82.5.170.188, urging the editor to participate in discussion. Hopefully, they will discuss with you.
As for the user warnings you left, it is generally better to "subst" those kinds of templates, tell the editor which article you are talking about (though admittedly this editor has only edited Y-chromosomal Aaron), and to end with a signature. The wiki-markup I normally leave is something like this: "{{subst:uw-vandalism1|Y-chromosomal Aaron|subst=subst:}} ~~~~"

You are the accuser, not me

Woah-woah-woah-woah-woah! I was not accusing you of anything, sorry if I offended you. But you made an assumption that I insulted you, and that's fine. But please tell me that you fell insluted by my comment in a nice way, before you start getting angry. If you told me nicely, I would have apologised, but for now I wont! The Rogue Leader (talk) 17:25, 09 August 2009 (UTC)

Looking at the article history, it is easy to find out that the edit which introduced the "fan-made" wording was actually made by 150.237.199.249, while my edit only added the AfD notice. Following my nomination of The B-Sides Collection for deletion, you made this edit which includes the sentence: "What you've done is edit the page, so it says its fan-made and used that as a excuse to nominate it for deletion." If that is not an explicit accusation directed at me, perhaps you would like to explain what you actually meant. Astronaut (talk) 11:35, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I'm sorry. But it's suspicious that the AfD notice was added because of suspicions that it was fan-made, and when the AfD notice was added, it said on the page it was fan-made, while previously it didn't. I was being a bit stupid blaming the source of my suspicions on you. The Rogue Leader (talk) 20:45, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the apology. Unfortunately, whether fan-made or official-but-shelved, I still don't think the album meets Wikipedia's requirements for inclusion in the encyclopedia. Astronaut (talk) 10:56, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Not to put to fine a point on it. I added the image of a 13A plug as an illustration of the sort of information the OP was looking for. I have reverted the flags you added to this page. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby union#Article style guide for the reason behind the mystery. noq (talk) 00:13, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

I had a look at that. The flag I added was the national flag or Ireland, not the IRFU flag. I can't believe the national flag is copyrighted because it is used in many places around the encyclopedia. So what is actually wrong with using the national flag, in the same way the national flags of Wales, Scotland, England, France and Italy are used? Astronaut (talk) 00:27, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
The problem is that Ireland's rugby team is a whole Ireland team - not just the republic so the republic's flag is not appropriate. noq (talk) 06:54, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
