Album cover template migrations

Hi. I noticed you're migrating uses of {{album cover fur}} to {{Non-free use rationale album cover}}. It occurred to me that when one uses the upload form to upload an album cover, it's still preloading {{album cover fur}}. You might want to request that the upload form be changed to use {{Non-free use rationale album cover}} instead. Just an FYI. --IllaZilla (talk) 22:23, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

I saw you suggestion regarding the banners at WP:VPT#Banners. Where exactly do I have to place

You'd place it in your skins' .css page - Which should be here. Avicennasis @ 13:20, 9 Tishrei 5772 / 13:20, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Responding to RFCs

Remember that RFCs are part of Dispute Resolution and at times may take place in a heated environment. Please take a look at the relevant RFC page before responding and be sure that you are willing and able to enter that environment and contribute to making the discussion a calm and productive one focussed on the content issue at hand. See also Wikipedia:Requests for comment#Suggestions for responding.

Greetings! You have been randomly selected to receive an invitation to participate in the request for comment on Talk:Red-Green Alliance (Denmark). Should you wish to respond to the invitation, your contribution to this discussion will be very much appreciated! However, please note that your input will carry no greater weight than anyone else's: remember that an RFC aims to reach a reasoned consensus position, and is not a vote. In support of that, your contribution should focus on thoughtful evaluation of the issues and available evidence, and provide further relevant evidence if possible.

Bot malfunctioning

Your bot seems to be adding {{orphan}} tags to categories [1]. I don't think that's intended? —Ruud 12:23, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Correct. I've reverted the errors - I will stop and fix the script later today. Thanks for the heads up, good block. Avicennasis @ 13:38, 4 Cheshvan 5772 / 13:38, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Okay. I've unblocked your bot account. Cheers, —Ruud 16:14, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Today at 19:31 UTC your bot still added {{orphan}} to this file description page. That also doesn't make much sense.
Looking at Special:Contributions/AvicBot, I see that was no isolated mistake. Please test your bot more thoroughly and do supervised runs first. And please clean up after that bot. Lupo 20:48, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes, indeed - the bot is not supposed to run this script outside articlespace. The filter that was supposed to remove all non-mainspace pages from the runlist failed - I have already found the cause and fixed it. I'll be cleaning the bot's run currently. Again, sorry - and this shouldn't happen again. Avicennasis @ 20:59, 4 Cheshvan 5772 / 20:59, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Fixing double redirects

Hey, AvicBot should delay a little while before fixing double redirects, to prevent problems like this, and also to stop problems relating to page move vandalism. Redirect fixer, which also worked at the rate of knots, was disabled for a very good reason. Fixing double redirects is not an urgent issue ... I would delay it for half an hour from the time that the page was moved, at the very least. Graham87 01:42, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure this would be practical to code - and I believe that none of the other redirect-fixing bots have such a delay. The issue is that it's hard to find the edit the causes the problem. I will look into re-coding the bot soon, however, and attempt to address this issue. Avicennasis @ 01:41, 23 Cheshvan 5772 / 01:41, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello, Avicennasis. I notice you recently made a tag, combining multiple "issues" on the page for American Club (eikaiwa). I was wondering if you read the article and went through its references. Though tags for references and COI may have been relevant in the past, they don't seem relevant now. It seems if one were to go through the references and re-write the article from scratch, it would probably turn out pretty much the same as it is now (though one would have to be able to read Japanese, since many of the references are published in Japanese). Any thoughts? Thank you very much for your time and input! Minusminority (talk) 04:42, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

I use some scripts to suggest edits - this is one of them. I don't really have an opinion on the tags themselves - but if you feel they no longer apply, feel free to remove them. Avicennasis @ 01:41, 23 Cheshvan 5772 / 01:41, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Multiple issues box and the Catscan tool.

In the MA Project, many people use the Catscan tool to search for articles with notability problems. The Catscan tool does not find tags inside the Multiple issues box. It would be nice if the Catscan tool were improved but in the between time, it is convenient to have the Notability tag outside the Multiple issues box. It is a balance between user needs and tools needs. Thanks! jmcw (talk) 08:22, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Bot error

Hi Avicennasis. It would appear your bot, AvicBot, has made an error when converting issue templates to the {{multiple issues}} template (diff): as a replacement for the {{too detailed}} template, it used over detailed, which is a non-existent parameter. Instead, I believe it should have used overly detailed, as this appears to be the corresponding "multiple issues" parameter. Thank you, Alphathon /'æɫfə.θɒn/ (talk) 03:24, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Indeed, it seems it was an error; however, I have now fixed it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! Avicennasis @ 04:00, 13 Kislev 5772 / 04:00, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Hi Avicennasis. For me, your bot, AvicBot, has an irritating habit of discarding the "attempted de-orphan" information when it merges the template into a multiple issues template. This has three unfortunate effects: one is the loss of information (it no longer remembers that someone has subsequently had a go at resolving the issues, and when); the second is that the multiple issues template doesn't give the same access as the orphan template does to "Related articles" and "suggestions may be available" links; but, most importantly, is means that the page gets listed again on the Orphan articles page for the date when the Orphan template was originally added, which then gets in the way of editors who are trying to work through the Wikipedia backlog of orphaned articles. For the present, I have been resorting to separating off the orphan template again from the multiple issues template (and restoring the old "att=" date). However, I thought I had better contact you, to see if there is a better compromise. (I think there is a "do-attempt" field that I could use, which might answer my third (and most important) concern, above (I've not tried it out yet). What do you think? TheAMmollusc (talk) 12:22, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Seems like a reasonable request - I'll look over the {{multiple issues}} template params and try to modify the script to retain this info. In the meantime, I'm stopped the grouping script. Avicennasis @ 02:48, 15 Kislev 5772 / 02:48, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Hi Avicennasis! As a suggestion, could the bot be modified to skip adding certain templates to the multiple issues box? It would be simple to handle these special cases by leaving them outside the box. Thanks!jmcw (talk) 15:25, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Sure - seems simple enough. Is this concerning the issue above? Avicennasis @ 02:48, 15 Kislev 5772 / 02:48, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Greetings! You have been randomly selected to receive an invitation to participate in the request for comment on Talk:Senkaku Islands.

A tag has been placed on Benjamin Sargeant requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. →Στc. 01:09, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Adding "Template category" to Inmediate childrens

Hello Avicennasis! I'm Theklan from the Basque Wikipedia. I've been working in the creation of the automatic taxobox as I think it's very useful for small Wikipedias. Furthermore, with the help of some bots I make template import so we can hold all the taxonomy information made in English. Well, as you will know when this taxonomy templates are created automatically we get something like this: Category:Immediate_step-children/Anthocerotophyta, in our case we get it in basque language: eu:Kategoria:Zuzeneko_alabaordeak/Muroidea. I've seen that you insert a template called Template category. So I have two questions:

  1. Could you explain me WHY you insert this template?
  2. Could you explain me HOW you insert this template? (As I think that you make it with the help of a bot).

Thanks for all! -Theklan (talk) 14:43, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Sure thing! I create the categories as I find them - else they tend to clutter up Special:WantedCategories - and having redlinked categories everywhere isn't really 'neat', in my opinion. I use a program called TypeItIn for a this (and many other) task(s) on Wikipedia. It helps to automate some of the editing - though it's not a bot, and all edits are manually saved after I check them. You could easily get AutoWikiBrowser to perform the same function, though. Hope that helps! Let me know if you need any more info/assistance. Avicennasis @ 15:47, 2 Tevet 5772 / 15:47, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
Great! Well, I have created a little file for a bout to create them, using pagefromfile.py. So now it's working on it. I wonder why this categories are created, but well, maybe it's something really useful in the code! -Theklan (talk) 18:48, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
