Seku Amadu, Amadu Seku, and Amadu Amadu

Thanks for your work on articles related to the history of Mali. I noticed that you recently moved the articles for two of the rulers of what is referred to as the Massina Empire - Amadu Seku and Amadu Amadu - to titles which do not, as far as I've ever seen, correspond to what is used in academic literature or what one would hear locally (namely "Seku Amadu II" and "Seku Amadu III"). I've requested that those pages be reverted back to their original titles. Super start, I'm disgusted that it was deleted without me even being notified. And my original article wasn't too bad either and had several sources and explanations of why he was notable. Might want to check the thing about Seagal moving to Japan in 1973 though, in interviews I think he said he was 16 or 17 and it was in the late 1960s. He also claims to have met the founder of aikido in Japan before his death which was 1969 I think. Seagal is mad keen about Ishisaka though and says he was the most important person in his development on aikido.17:13, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Well, Seagal always implied he moved to Japan permanently at the age of 16 so you might want to clarify that one in his article, I thought it was always odd that such a young kid would move to Japan like that by himself!. Greetings. I have always been fascinated by your name which sounds Indian, particularly Matha. I should have replied to your note on my talk page long time back. Some how I missed. I have also added some text to the above article which you have started. Today, I have added text on the Cairo forts with text from two very reliable references. You may like to use them to add to the text on forts which you have added. Interestingly all Islamic monuments in India have close roots to Persian and Arabic invaders, on which I have written many articles (many with Dr. B and Rosie) over the last 5 years.   • If my family tradition is to be believed, I do have Indian blood, but it is not clear whether that is Indian Indian or North American Indian. Either or both are possible. My grandmother, Nellie Yule, was from Orkney. The Orkney traders were active in Hudson's Bay, and some brought home Cree wives. But the "AY" part of my userid stands for Andrew Yule. With a bit of work I think Fatimid architecture will make GA. I know you don't appear to rate GA too highly, but I think it's worth it because we have so little really on architecture and it makes it easier for people to find decent articles than if it wasn't GA. Yes, I'm accessing some material currently which says that the Fatimids actually used symbolic architectural features from places like Mesopotamia for good international relations. Above all it seems they largely copied from Mesopotamia and Mediterranean Byzantine but as one scholar said they did develop a unique style of mosque. I put Pikes Hotel up for GA, it's pretty comprehensive. Just requested some photos on flickr and seems my feeling about the place was right. [3] [4]. I mean you can literally smell the stink of the first one can't you, looks like the set of a low-budget sleazy 70s San Francisco porno movie, not that I would know about that ahem. If you've ever seen The Enforcer (1976 film) you'll know the scene where he falls through the roof onto the set and it looks just like it! Can you find anything more on Æthelgeard? See discussion on talk page, it has been confused with a bishop of Cornwall but the bishop is referring to Æthelhard. However one or two sources mention him as being the Bishop of WInchester, an area he does seem to have been associated with but not sure if its the same person. Æthelheard of Winchester I think it is highly likely they're the same person based on the dates and his landownership in Winchester where he kept his archives. Also not convinced on the Frome reference, that sources seem to infer that those they're talking about were late 11th century not 950s.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 08:48, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

  • I can't find any trace of it. Nowadays I would make an .svg map using Inkscape, but my guess is this one was done with PowerPoint, saved as .png and the PowerPoint thrown away. Thanks. Started Malören and spotted that we're missing an article on a whole archipelago of northern Sweden which has 792 islands, the Kalix archipelago or Islands of Bothnian Bay. All of the islands to the south of here. sv:Kalix skärgård does not have much. It is part of the Norrbottens skärgård (North Bothnian Bay archipelago), which also includes the Pite skärgård, sv:Lule skärgård and sv:Haparanda skärgård. The last is a national park. Might be better to do the four in one, at least to start. Maybe they could go into Bothnian Bay, split out later if it seems to be getting too big. Your satellite main image doesn't identify the bay, in fact it obscures it confuses things by the snow cover. Not sure why you think it is better than a map showing the location..15:34, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

The top image position in the infobox is generally used for a photograph of the waterbody, not a map. There are other seascape photos, but the satellite photo seems rather dramatic. The European locator map is below it, which most readers will recognize. Few readers would recognize the Gulf of Bothnia outline. But from the large-scale map in the infobox, readers will be able to zoom in to the two maps in the "Extent" section, showing the bay within the gulf, and the bay in more detail.
