could you

with you fine mind examine my comments at User:Jaguar's talk page? Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Courtney Hill (cricketer), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sunshine Coast. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Help with National Automobile Dealers Association article?

Hi there Bahnfrend. I'm trying to find an editor familiar with car-related topics, who might be interested to help with some improvements to the article for the US National Automobile Dealers Association. Although you're in Australia, I saw you're a member of WikiProject Automobiles and wondered if you might be familiar with NADA. On behalf of the organization, I've posted an edit request for a few small, straightforward updates on the article's talk page, and I am seeking review from an uninvolved editor. Might you have a little time to take a look? I posted a request for help on the WikiProject Automobiles' talk page, but so far no one has responded. Can you help verify translations of articles from German

Hello Bahnfrend,

Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from German to English Wikipedia?

File:Language icon.svg

This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original German article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:

There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including German , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from German. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.

If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:

  1. Johann Pfeiffer
  2. John of Neumarkt

All you have to do, is compare the English article to the German article, and assess them "Pass" or "Fail" (the {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} templates may be useful here). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then assessing it, that's even better, but it isn't required.) Also please note that we are assessing accuracy not completeness, so if the English article is much shorter that is okay, as long as whatever has been translated so far is factually accurate.

If you can help, please {{ping}} me here to let me know. You can add your pass/fails above, right next to each link, or you may indicate your results below. Thanks! Mathglot (talk) 06:54, 11 June 2017 (UTC)

ANI Experiences survey

Beginning on November 28, 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) will be conducting a survey to en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works - which problems it deals with well, and which problems it struggles with.

The survey should take 10-20 minutes to answer, and your individual responses will not be made public. The survey is delivered through Google Forms. The privacy policy for the survey describes how and when Wikimedia collects, uses, and shares the information we receive from survey participants and can be found here:

If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be mailed to you via Special:Emailuser.

A tag has been placed on Category:Templates for railway lines in Nepal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Invitation to WikiProject Portals

The Portals WikiProject has been rebooted.

You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.

There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.

Many complaints have been lodged in the RfC to delete all portals, pointing out their various problems. They say that many portals are not maintained, or have fallen out of date, are useless, etc. Many of the !votes indicate that the editors who posted them simply don't believe in the potential of portals anymore.

It's time to change all that. Let's give them reasons to believe in portals, by revitalizing them.

The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond.

A healthy WikiProject dedicated to supporting and maintaining portals may be the strongest argument of all not to delete.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

Let's do this.

See ya at the WikiProject!

Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   10:19, 21 April 2018 (UTC)

Thank you very much

The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.

By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.

Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.

If you would like to keep abreast of developments on portals, keep in mind that the project's members receive updates on their talk pages. The updates are also posted here, for your convenience.

Again, we can't thank you enough for your support of portals, and we hope to make you proud of your decision. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   09:10, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

P.S.: if you reply to this message, please {{ping}} me. Thank you. -TT

very late notice

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Perth/50 - apologies for late notice - hope you are able to make it!! JarrahTree 04:33, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

Notice

The file File:2017–18 Women's National Cricket League logo.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

There appears to be no real difference between this file and File:WNCL Logo.png being used for primary identification purposes in Women's National Cricket League and two non-free files of the same logo are not needed per WP:NFCC#3. Moreover, the non-free use of the primary logo of a sports league in the articles about individual seasons is pretty much never allowed per items 14 and 17 of WP:NFC#UUI since the individual season articles are considered to be "child entities" of the main article ("parent article") about the league itself, unless the logo is associated with a particular season such as an anniversary logo or a the first season of a new sponsor or new logo and there is sourced content within the relevant season article to reflect this. For individual season articles, the default is not to simply use the main logo, but to rather use season specific logos (if they exist) or no logo at all if they don't.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:55, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Seabourn Encore-520x292.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Seabourn Encore-520x292.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:06, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Great to have freely distributable images of this vessel! Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 06:47, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

  • Do you have any idea why the Guardian class, and some of Australia's other patrol vessels, have those odd trapezoidal voids in the walls on their fore-deck? Do you know why that foredeck wall slants diagonally?
I've uploaded a lot of the images of the USCG's smaller cutters. Pictures of the interiors of these vessels proved pretty hard to find.

Sockpuppets and anonymous IP contributors

I see you have spent years documenting the vandalism of sockpuppetmasters. Personally, I decided that the experiment of letting people contribute anonymously has failed.

If the initial idea was that we allow this so freedom-lovers, in unfree countries, could still make brave contributions to wikipedia articles, I have got to say I have never seen an anonymous edit that stood out to me as an example of an edit of an oppressed freedom-lover.

I strongly suspect that the secret police of repressive states can hire firms that have the tools to determine if suspects were using the wikipedia, without regard to whether they were contributing anonymously.

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 06:54, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Anglican Diocese of Bunbury.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Anglican Diocese of Bunbury.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Disambiguation link notification for December 27

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Anglican Bishop of Bathurst, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bathurst (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Anglican Church Southern Queensland logo.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Anglican Church Southern Queensland logo.jpg.

Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Queensland Regions

Thank you for your efforts on the dioceses. However, I wonder if you should be going to the trouble of adding the regions. While most Queenslanders probably understand the terms like "Far North Queensland", "Wide Bay - Burnett" etc in a vague way, but there is no real official basis for them and no official boundaries. Quite a lot of Qld Govt organisations uses regions to divide the state up into chunks that make sense to their work, but there is no consistency between the departments' use of regions and some of them reorganise them from time to time. If you were writing about hospitals (say), then using the regions used by Qld Health might have some relevance, but for dioceses, I don't think there is any relevant govt region system that relates to them. I must say I do dislike the Regions of Queensland article as I think it gives the impression that the Queensland Regions are more formalised than they are. Kerry (talk) 00:19, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

Just by way of example, here is the Qld Education Department's current set of regions, which differ from the map in the Regions of Queensland which comes from a different government department. Kerry (talk) 00:25, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
which is why the west australian regions article acknowledges and tries to delineate the many variations of the weird and wonderful region ideas... JarrahTree 13:53, 1 January 2020 (UTC)

I am a first-time user and was hoping that you could help me by proofreading an entry that I translated from a German entry. I would also have a question about the use of images from the German entry in the English page. I will explain in more detail later. [1] [2]

Could you please let me know if you are available to do the proofreading. Many thanks. Regards, Kwasnicka (talk) 15:05, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
