WikiProject Ice Hockey August 2007 Newsletter[edit]

WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter

Dear Bamsefar75! You are receiving this newsletter because you have signed up as a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey. The purpose of this newsletter is to update on the goings on of the project, as there have been major changes, and a lot of new recognized content in the past few weeks. If you are an inactive user, you probably won't recognize the new and improved state of the WikiProject!

From the project, Maxim.

New recognized content

By Maxim
There have been a lot more Good and Featured articles written in the past few weeks. Here is a list:[1][2][3][4]

Featured articles
Good articles
Featured lists[5]
Notes
  1. ^ All articles are in order of promotion, as written on the main WikiProject page; FA's have official dates of promotions.
  2. ^ A star represents a featured article or list
  3. ^ A green circle represents a good article
  4. ^ Stanley Cup is an A-Class article
  5. ^ The lists system differs from articles, and doesn't give an official date of promotion
Article Improvement

By Maxim

Upon some discussion on the WikiProject talk page, the Article Improvement Drive page was revamped by Krm500 and Maxim. It was renamed Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Article Improvement, and it includes two section. The first section is called articles in dire need of improvement. It list articles, usually important, that are in very poor shape. The second section is called requested help. Users list an article they request help improving a certain article, which will facilitate collaboration, which is the aim of any WikiProject. There is one article currently listed there, Henrik Lundqvist, here. The goal is to at least get it to Good article status.

Diacritics

By Maxim

In the past few weeks, there has been quite heated discussion about the use of diacritics in article name. The current guideline is using diacritics in the pages of articles of all player names which require them, but redirects are exempt.

Task forces

By Maxim
There have been two new task forces started within the WikiProject to coordinate major topics.

Sweden Ice Hockey task force

This task force was initiated by Krm500. Its current goal is to improve Henrik Lundqvist to Good or Featured article status. It covers all Swedish clubs, leagues and competitions and associated articles, players and coaches that are Swedish, or have played/coached for a Swedish club, and arenas in Sweden. They plan to eventually operate as a sort of a sub-project, which will have its own articles for creation, ranking importance and quality of articles, and co-ordinate article improvement. Its current members are Krm500, Bamsefar75, and CLAES.

New Jersey Devils task force

This task force was initiated by Bsroiaadn. Its goal is to improve New Jersey Devils to Featured Topic status. Although it currently meets the required article count, the task force wishes to improve it further. Its area of coverage is very similar to the Sweden Ice Hockey task force. Its members are Bsroiaadn, JHMM13, FutureNJGov, Sportskido8, Michael Greiner, JRWalko, and Soxrock.

Requested Images

By Maxim
After discussion on the WikiProject talk page, Serte created a page for Requested Images. The page encourages users to license images for use on articles. The page also has section to request images for players, arenas, game situations, miscellaneous, and team and league logos. The page has been quite popular; since it was created on July 21, there have been six completed requests. There are four currently outstanding requests:

Article assessement completed

By Maxim
On July 12, Kaiser matias announced that he had completed assessing all the articles with a {{ice hockey}} tag, sorting them into Category:Unassessed Ice Hockey articles. Kaiser matias has ranked about 9000 articles in that category, and most were stubs, and "have no information at all", according to him. Everybody is encouraged to expand the stubs into real articles. This effort took around 5 months. A big thanks goes to Kaiser matias from me and all the project.

Re:Archiving request[edit]

Done! I hadn't realized how big that talk page got. I ended up creating two archives, and dropping the main talk page to about 74kb. Regards, Resolute 01:24, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, the mistake was mine. I copy/pasted the the archive12 link on the main talk page, but forgot to change the titles to archive13 and archive 14, I only changed the visual links. I noticed that mistake this morning when I simplified the archive box. Resolute 16:41, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter

Dear Bamsefar75! You are receiving as you are a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey There's been more new thing going on at WP:HOCKEY, and I think this will help you to stay informed. Since the last newsletter sent out in August, there's been great changes. Read on to find out! Maxim(talk)

This just in:
Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy has just been promoted to featured list status, while the bot was delivering the newsletter. Maxim(talk) 02:02, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And I've just promoted Art Ross Trophy. And Clarence S. Campbell Bowl is at FLC. This should be the last update. Maxim(talk) 00:40, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
New recognized content

By Maxim

Especially due to the featured topic drive, there have been many new featured lists promoted concerning NHL awards. Here's the full list of all the 13 FL's promoted since the last newsletter.[1][2]

  1. Hart Memorial Trophy
  2. James Norris Memorial Trophy
  3. Vezina Trophy
  4. Conn Smythe Trophy
  5. Frank J. Selke Trophy
  6. Lady Byng Memorial Trophy
  7. Lester B. Pearson Award
  8. Calder Memorial Trophy
  9. Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy
  10. King Clancy Memorial Trophy
  11. Jack Adams Award
  12. Presidents' Trophy
  13. List of Calgary Flames players

There have been no new good articles or featured articles. Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy has been given A-Class status due to multiple issues raised at FLC.

  1. ^ The last one, List of Calgary Flames players, is the only one not associated with the featured topic drive.
  2. ^ At the time of publishing, there were 5 lists at WP:FLC and 2 lists in the "Holding cell", as there's been an accepted guideline to not put more that 5 trophy lists at the same time to, "compensate for the sanity of the reviewers".
Did You Know?

By Maxim
There have been 4 new articles featured in the Did You Know section? on the Main Page since August.

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

Started by User:Scorpion0422, the aim of this drive is to make NHL awards a featured topic. A featured topic is basically a set of very high quality articles (good articles and featured articles/lists). In this case, the topic is NHL awards. Many users have helped, including Scorpion0422, Resolute, Serte, Hasek is the best, Maxim, Croat Canuck, Spike Wilbury, FutureNJGov, and T Rex/Dinosaur puppy. The progress has been very good; there are 12 featured lists promoted, and 2 good articles:

  1. Hart Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  2. James Norris Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  3. Vezina Trophy (Scorpion)
  4. Conn Smythe Trophy (Serte)
  5. Frank J. Selke Trophy (FutureNJGov)
  6. Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  7. Lester B. Pearson Award (Scorpion)
  8. Calder Memorial Trophy (Croat Canuck)
  9. Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
  10. King Clancy Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
  11. Jack Adams Award (Maxim)
  12. Presidents' Trophy (Scorpion)
  13. Stanley Cup (Earlier collaboration, very many involved)
  14. Traditions and anecdotes associated with the Stanley Cup (Maxim)

Check the project page if you are interested in helping out. Although it's closer to being done than not, there's still work to be done. The next topic that might be tackled is Stanley Cup, but this remains purely speculative and in discussion.

You cite WP:HOCKEY/TPF but judging by the discussions there with comments like

  • articles that are obviously North America-centric
  • It's also the most common format used by NHL teams on their official websites
  • The National Hockey League is a North American hockey league and conducts it's business in North America (Canada, United States). The vast majority of players in the league are Canadian and American, and the teams themselves follow the current format, as do the majority of networks that cover the league - not to mention the NHL media guide.

it's obvious most had North American teams in mind, which means there's no evidence on any consensus on Swedish teams. And indeed the standard in the Swedish and Finnish team pages seems to be [City, Country] for NA players, or at the very least [City, Province, Country].

But whatever, if you want your Swedish pages to be North America-centric then fine. I wonder why so many pages use another format though... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.196.58.78 (talk) 20:01, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I guess we are talking about Frölunda HC‎ and not Los Angeles, USA. Yes, I undestand your point, but you should bring this up on the TPF talk page instead. I was just trying to make the Frölunda article consistent, since Krm500 chose to follow the TPF but overlooked one player. I am just the messenger. --Bamsefar75 (talk) 20:27, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

VEU Feldkirch[edit]

Do you know what happened to VEU Feldkirch? I looked at their website in German, it appears the team is active, but they are not a member of the Austrian Hockey League. Perhaps they were relegated to a lower level? I don't think the current wording (my fault) is correct. What do you know? Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 22:30, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Swedish Rookie of the Year[edit]

I am hoping you would be able to write a stub for Årets Rookie. It is the only red link on Template:Elitserien. I don't have any sources for it. Let me know if you can find any. Flibirigit (talk) 17:42, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Of them, 20 are featured lists, one is a featured article, and the other three are trophy articles that were too short to become featured lists. Eight users signed up to help out, shown here. The next Featured Topic hasn't been decided upon, and the ideas and organization for it fell apart. If you have any ideas, don't hesitate to share them at WT:HOCKEY.

Notes
  • More editors are needed to help out with the newsletter. The newsletter creator doesn't have an infinite nor perfect supply of ideas, and thus he might omit some interesting news.
  • Portal:Ice hockey is being considered for featured status.
  • Should Chris Pronger have been suspended for more than eight games for stomping on Ryan Kesler? Vote here!
  • Help Patrik Stefan -- one of the greatest NHL draft busts -- become a GA status article.

Rash of new task forces[edit]

Seems to be a trend to create a task force right now. Since you did so amazing on the other teams. Would you mind making a SJS logo for the sharks? -Djsasso (talk) 16:19, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimania 2010 could be coming to Stockholm![edit]

I'm leaving you a note as you may be interested in this opportunity.

People from all six Nordic Wiki-communities (sv, no, nn, fi, da and is) are coordinating a bid for Wikimania 2010 in Stockholm. I'm sending you a message to let you know that this is occurring, and over the next few months we're looking for community support to make sure this happens! See the bid page on meta and if you like such an idea, please sign the "supporters" list at the bottom. Tack (or takk), and have a wonderful day! Mike H. Fierce! 08:42, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As punishment...[edit]

For pointing out my slip up. Now I am going to bug you if you have the time at some point to make a PHI graphic like you did for the other teams. Realized I never got an image put on the template for the new Philly task force. -Djsasso (talk) 14:32, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pääjärvi[edit]

Hope you don't mind if I change your infobox image, I have a couple of old images of MSP when he played for Malmö, which are higher resolution and a little sharper. —Krm500 (Communicate!) 04:36, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats good. Go ahead, by all means. My player pics are all low-quality and serve as better-than-nothing images until someone with a better camera (wider lens) has captured something. If your picture is outdated (if player looks very young) you can always use image_caption in the infobox. I have a newer pic of him too, but its from the same camera (and quality) as the old one. And of course there will probably be more room for my old picture in the future as his article grows (could be used to represent his Timrå career, etc). --Bamsefar75 (talk) 04:52, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm planning to get a picture of him during this season, I will occasionally be photographing for Hockeyligan.se this season so I hope I'll work on one of the two Timrå games in Scandinavium. —Krm500 (Communicate!) 05:02, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Of course it was, my mistake. You wouldn't happen to have any good sources about his early life? I got what I need on his playing career, I'll try to expand it as much as possible before the draft, will try to do it with all Swedish potential first rounders (ie Hedman, MSP, Josefsson, Rundblad, Erixon, Lander, Klingberg). —Krm500 (Communicate!) 15:18, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd guess in 1995. :) Huge game by MSP today, wow is he going to be a great NHLer. —Krm500 (Communicate!) 23:56, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:53, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Timra IK seasons[edit]

Hi Bamsefar75. Where did you get the Provincial level standings on the List of Timrå IK seasons from? I am searching for complete standings featuring all the teams in these competitions. Do you know if they are available and where they can be found if so? Thanks. Hockeyben (talk - contribs) 20:10, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Thank you very much for your reply. I checked several Swedish online bookstores for a copy of Timrå IK - en klassiker and was unable to find it anywhere, so I am wondering if you would be willing to send me any standings for the Medelpadsserien found in the book up to 1948? I would greatly appreciate it as this info is extremely difficult to come by.

I already have the following from a book entitled Pucken - En bok om svensk ishockey 50 år, but I'm missing the other years:

1937-38
Team GP W T L +/- P
1 Heffners IF 11 9 2 0 45-11 20
2 Wifstavarv 11 8 1 2 27-17 17

Thanks for going to the effort to send me this information! As I said, it is almost impossible to find standings for many of the district/lower level Swedish competitions prior to 1957. This was of great help to me. Discrepancies are common with early competitions such as this one, but I think I'd be inclined to favor your source more than Pucken given how it also listed the game scores. --Hockeyben (talk - contribs) 22:40, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:26, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
