Welcome to the Wikipedia![edit]

Hello, and Welcome to the Wikipedia, Bigmack! Thanks for modifying the Wikilink over on the Ombudsman article. Hope you enjoy editing here and becoming a Wikipedian! Here are a few perfunctory tips to hasten your acculturation into the Wikipedia experience:

And some odds and ends: Boilerplate text, Brilliant prose, Cite your sources, Civility, Conflict resolution, How to edit a page, How to write a great article, Pages needing attention, Peer review, Policy Library, Utilities, Verifiability, Village pump, Wikiquette, and you can sign your name on any page by typing 4 tildes: ~~~~.

Best of luck, Bigmack, and most importantly, have fun! Ombudsman 21:52, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

_ _ Hi, Big, and let me add to yr welcome. I'm guessing yr also 198.105.45.18 (talk · contribs) (which is neither here nor there, except that you can get your as-an-IP edits reattributed if you like).
_ _ In any case, you have a strong enuf impression of Barkat's notability to reassert the entry, and that deserves a response. Clearly mediator/negotiators are important people, but like judges and doctors most of them are not notable at an encyclopedic level. The major short-term issue will be getting yr colleagues clear about what makes him special. The international aspect may conceivably, if or when fleshed out, make that clear, but leadership in the profession is IMO more likely to matter.
_ _ You may also be Barkat. IMO adding your own entry to LoPbN is fine, tho actually writing your own bio article is almost w/o exception a lousy idea, for too many reasons to go into just now. If you are he, it's there already, and it will probably will be a good starting point if it doesn't get deleted, and a good basis for discovering it, and why, if it does. In either case, i urge you to watch the article and make input via talk:John Barkat on the changes others will be making. A lot is likely to happen to it, and your sense of prior knowledge, if nothing else, may make the collaborative editing of it, which is the essence of WP, a tough, uh, negotiating process.
_ _ I haven't read the bio yet, bcz these process aspects are more immediately important, and in fact i just noticed it when i previewed this note & saw the lk i created in the hdg above had turned from red to blue. I'll surely be one of those editing, and probably put it on cleanup at least for an opportunity to widen the circle of those reviewing it.
_ _ I'm looking forward to the possibility that this article has a future here. And the entry certainly now belongs on LoPbN unless and until deletion of John Barkat occurs, so don't worry that you're in a revert-war with me abt that!
