Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Billybenz4. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:28, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A few things

[edit]
  1. While you have disclosed your employment with Maverik Lacrosse at the Teahouse and help desk, you should make this mandatory disclosure on your userpage, User:Billybenz4. Using the {{paid}} template is the preferred and most visible way for you to make this disclosure.
  2. You should not directly edit the Maverik Lacrosse article, or any articles where you have a clear conflict of interest. You should instead suggest edits on the article's talk page, using the {{request edit}} template.
  3. Wikipedia can't be used for advertising and promotion, and the company has no right of ownership or editorial control over its own article. Content cannot be praiseworthy and must be expressed from completely neutral point of view.
  4. Content must be backed up by citing reliable sources that are independent of the company. Wikipedia has no interest in what the company wants to say about itself. This disqualifies any company-authored material like press releases, social media or other self-published sources. Primary sources can be used only to verify basic facts and figures (eg. annual sales, names of key persons, etc.).

Billybenz4, you need to make the mandatory disclosure discussed above, before making any other edits to any Wikipedia pages. Regards, --bonadea contributions talk 17:51, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
