Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello BoriquaZurdo, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to La Negra Tiene Tumbao have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Hut 8.5 21:36, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnicelebs.com as a source[edit]

Hi BoriquaZurdo. I noticed that you recently used ethnicelebs.com as a source for biographical information in Benicio del Toro. Please note that there is general consensus that ethnicelebs.com does not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for the inclusion of personal information in such articles. (See User_talk:XLinkBot/RevertList#EthniCelebs.com). If you disagree, let's discuss it. Thanks. --Ronz (talk) 22:00, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hola Ronz - No worries... Didn't know that ethnicelebs.com does not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for the inclusion of personal information in articles. Appreciate the note - is there a listing somewhere with all those sites?--BoriquaZurdo (talk) 15:27, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There's no complete list. WP:RSP is a well-maintained list of commonly discussed references and the current consensus for each. --Ronz (talk) 17:15, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for March 21[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Puerto Ricans, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Malaysian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 12:26, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

May 2020[edit]

Information icon Hello. Some of your recent genre changes, such as the one you made to María del Carmen Félix, have conflicted with our neutral point of view and/or verifiability policies. While we invite all users to contribute constructively to Wikipedia, we urge all editors to provide reliable sources for edits made. When others disagree, we recommend you seek consensus for certain edits by discussing the matter on the article's talk page. Thank you.  Bradford  Talk  18:34, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Bradford: Thank you for your note, but I am totally confused - what genre change did I make? All that I did to María del Carmen Félix is expand the stub with some recent reliable sources - Are you claiming that Telemundo is not a reliable source? - please don't take this wrong, but I need a little more explanation here before I undo your deletion of my edits... please clarify and educate me BoriquaZurdo (talk) 19:31, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The controversy section is irrelevant. Wikipedia is not a gossip magazine. That information does not benefit the article at all. Well, it is just a curiosity, a conflict that she had that did not affect her health much or transcended something else. On the other hand, the state in which she was born is not indicated by the source you provide, it only says that she moved from Sonora, but it does not exactly say that she was born there. Bradford  Talk  20:42, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bradford  Talk  Thanks again for taking the time to clarify this issue for me so that we can both learn from it. (1) I'm still confused about what genre you claim that I changed, (2) We agree that Wikipedia is not a gossip magazine, but I disagree with your characterization of the news, not gossip, of a well-known actress discussing a social/political issue, not who's dating who, with a reputable news organization - that's far from gossip!, (3) The source DOES provide the state in which she was born! Paragraph 12 states: "Nacida hace 35 años en el estado mexicano de Sonora" (Born 35 years ago in the Mexican state of Sonora). Finally, you deleted a total of seven revisions at once, including revisions which simply added citations. As I am sure that you know, this violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing [editor's work]— whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. After getting all that out of my system, I have no intention on wasting any more cycles on this issue - I was honestly just trying to expand and improve the article, as it was sent to me as a random stub to help expand and improve, and I have neither the passion nor extreme interest on the subject as you clearly do - as such we're done and I will not touch that [page] ever again. Thanks again for your interest and I wish you the best!--BoriquaZurdo (talk) 13:57, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia's "logical quotes" in Ross Palmer Beecher[edit]

Hello BoriquaZurdo,

WP's manual of style on "logical quotes" says quotation marks go before punctuation when a sentence fragment is quoted. I know how alien this arrangement looks to those of us who were trained in American schools, but it's a negotiated compromise with the rest of the English-speaking world. See MOS:INOROUT which in my opinion is clear as mud, but it's what we go by... Cheers! — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 19:38, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Grand'mere Eugene - Holy moley! Thank you for letting me know! WOW! I've been incorrectly "correcting" a ton of pages! It does look very wrong... won't do it again! Cheers back...--BoriquaZurdo (talk) 16:05, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I need your help[edit]

Hola colega:

Yes Mr. Garcia was born in Cuba. But his former nationality is not relevant to his actor status. The MOSCONTEXTBOI of Wikipedia's guidelines says. No mentions of 'former nationality' Or Place of Birth unless relevant. And it's not relevant. So we removed it.

Te agradecería si me respondieras. De antemano, gracias. Aziyade Gil (talk) 19:57, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Morton Fine Art moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Morton Fine Art, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
