Wikipedia is celebrating its 15th birthday on January 15, 2016. I have thought for a while that it would be neat to meet some local wikipedians. According to the wikipedians in Winnipeg or Wikipedians in Manitoba category you are one of us. I am contacting people in this category to say: Let's celebrate this milestone. If you know other wikipedians, please ask them to join in as well.

I am posting this to your talk page as a transclude so that any updates will show up automatically.

Hope to see you there! Tenbergen (talk) 04:46, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

One other Winnipeg Wikipedian showed up, in addition to a number of regular skullspace members. It was nice to actually talk to someone else who has worked with Mediawiki and actually "gets" transclusion. Cake was eaten! Tenbergen (talk) 06:37, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Aw, apparently I haven't logged in to Wikipedia in over 6 years and I totally missed this message and the event! I guessed I missed any 20 year celebration, too. Let me know if you end up doing a 25 year one. :) Clayton Rumley (talk) 22:52, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see you recently edited Storm Catcher. However, there were some problems with your edits. First, you remove proper formatting form the infobox. If you check {{infobox film}}, it says to use {{plainlist}} to separate the entries. Second, you added a citation to someone's Livejournal blog. This is not a reliable source. And, finally, you converted existing citations to a different format in violation of WP:CITEVAR. It's not a good idea to change citation formats, as it can ignite edit wars. "Magnificent Men"

[edit]

A bit shocked to discover that hysterical stuff having come from an experienced (and usually "nice"?) editor. My own assumption of course was that he was a beginner and/or a fool - neither seems to be the case, which actually makes it worse. On the other hand even if "Men" was a documentary his remarks would be out of place in this article, at least at the point he made them. As for being rude - suppose I can't talk really - and as for messing up an article with a hasty and careless edit - I suspect we've all done that on occasion. The "ganging up" accusation is a bit rich - if we had NOT been in accord (as has happened from time to time) I'm sure he wouldn't have felt that he was "ganging up" on me (or you, as the case may have been). --Soundofmusicals (talk) 23:52, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Screen shot 2016-01-30 at 4.11.04 PM.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Screen shot Birth of a Giant airborne.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Screen shot Birth of a Giant airborne.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 18:38, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Lockheed P-2 Neptune (Greenwood).jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lockheed P-2 Neptune (Greenwood).jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 01:07, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help with a documentary submission - healthcare and aviation

[edit]

Hello, Bzuk. I could use some help getting an article launched, so to speak. It's been rejected twice, but I think the current draft meets all criteria in terms of notability, reliable secondary sources, and encyclopedic description. It's a made for TV documentary produced by and aired on the Discovery Channel about hospital accidents, which kill 440,000 American annually. It has some of the top leaders in healthcare featured in the film as well as celebrities like Dennis Quaid and Sully Sullenberger. It's widely known and respected, especially in the medical and healthcare worlds. I thought you might be particularly interested since at the core of the film is the idea of learning from aviation best practices to improve healthcare. It discusses an NTSB Blue Cover Report approach to healthcare that could save countless lives. It also interviews Chesley Sullenberger about US Airways Flight 1549 and how his experience landing on the Hudson can be applied to healthcare. And there's some sweet Blue Angels footage. This is the current draft Draft:Surfing_the_Healthcare_Tsunami:_Bring_Your_Best_Board. Any help would be appreciated.Radom event gen (talk) 17:47, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Which pipeline in Battle for Oil?

[edit]

Hi Bill. Trying figure out what pipeline from Alberta to Montreal was being built during WWII so I could link to it -- and drawing a blank. Is it possible the film depicts work on the Canadian Oil Pipeline, a crude oil pipeline from Norman Wells, NT to Whitehorse, YK? I found a nice history list here. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 18:50, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bill, that just doesn't make sense to me. If it's indeed the Portland–Montreal Pipe Line being built in the film, that's Portland Maine not Oregon -- and it was created to bring oil to Montreal, not western Canadian oil to central Canada. The geography as you've described it in the article just doesn't compute. Why would you build pipeline from Oregon, 100s of miles to the south west, on the Pacific coast, if the goal was to bring Albertan oil to Montreal? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:07, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah perfect. yes, if that's what the film shows, that makes sense! great. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:25, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Shall we take the images up to FFD instead? WP:NFCC encourages very minimal amount of images. --George Ho (talk) 22:02, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure what that entails. Both images have a place and rationale. AFAIK, having two images in an article does not seem excessive, especially since the caption with the screenshot gives more detail as to why it is being used. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 00:31, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
While I was editing the article, I could not find the information in the source that you give. Also, I found that the book may have bad or mixed reviews. Masem looks like an expert on non-free images; that person can take a look and say his analysis. (BTW, no need to copy the whole thread. Simply ping me if you can.) George Ho (talk) 07:43, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I would argue that the DVD cover is unnecessary, given the title card of the film. Clearly the DVD came much later, so it's not really the original marketing of the film, and one can argue there's more information in the title card (regarding his outfit and the B&W nature) that can be used here. --MASEM (t) 16:27, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My two cents

[edit]

Hi Bill. I want to begin by reiterating how impressed I am with your work in Canadian film, especially, these days, Canadian World War II propaganda films. But I'll be remiss if I didn't share a concern that I have: that too many of these short WWII newsreel series films might be challenged at some point as individually non-notable, per WP:NFILM. I say this because I've noticed of late that aside from the detailed synopses that you provide on each film, most or all of the rest of the content seems given over to repeating text that has appeared in multiple articles on other series titles: the distribution for the series as a whole, the ways that these were compilation documentaries, Lorne Greene as the "voice of doom," etc. You've put so much time and effort into these articles and I'd hate to see them end up AfD. I trust that you've mined as much from your references as possible in support of the individual notability of the films, but I thought I'd flag this. File permission problem with File:Bellanca 28-90.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bellanca 28-90.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 12:30, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You were the one who added the sentence that I have a problem with, so I'll ask you. The article does not explain what an "F-85" is, but this one sentence and a note at the end seem to suggest the term "F-85" was defined.

Deeday-UK did not seem to object to my changing the redirect for "F-85" to an American car from the 1960s, but I decided to create a disambiguation page "F85" when I saw the other uses. I need some guidance to know just what this means in the Goblin article. — Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:07, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Vchimpanzee: In that case, since the F85 dab page covers both forms of the acronym – with and without the hyphen, then F-85 should probably redirect to the dab page itself. There are a few other F-numbers that follow such redirect pattern, e.g. F-100. --Deeday-UK (talk) 23:54, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking the same thing. Bzuk, could you at least explain to me what should go on the disambiguation page to explain how F-85 relates to the Goblin? Obviously if it's a featured article no one had a problem with the lack of explanation of just what F-85 meant, though I would be happier if it was explained somehow.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 15:50, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) I'm not sure Bzuk is around, but I'll try to help. I'm not sure exactly what you're asking about the F-85. Are you asking why the article title has XF-85, but F-85 redirects to it? Or something else? - BilCat (talk) 15:57, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Redirected. There are multiple uses. I want to know exactly what to put on the disambiguation page to explain what an F-85 is if it is an airplane. The article doesn't make that clear.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:37, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
F-85 is a designation used by the USAF in the 1924 United States Army Air Service aircraft designation system, and means it's the 85th aircraft in the Fighter series. Is that what you're asking? That isn't usually explained in the aircraft article, and would be far too much info for a DAB page. Pennants numbers for ships aren't usually explained either, as with Spanish frigate Navarra (F85). - BilCat (talk) 16:50, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I needed that information too, as that's another of the entries.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:56, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Agree that the F85 dab page is OK as it is, without further detail. I doubt the 'X' in front of the Goblin's designator will cause readers much confusion either. --Deeday-UK (talk) 14:09, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Bobbi conve photo07.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bobbi conve photo07.jpg.

Thank you. Kelly hi! 15:34, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for remembering me on Christmas. I shall lift a mug of warm spiced cider hoping Christmas finds you with good friends near a warm stove. I fondly recall the breathtaking beauty of winter nights with the northern lights and sharply defined stars above shadowy conifers silhouetted against the snow; but I also remember how good it felt to find the first patch of dry ground where one could enjoy the mid-day sun of the equinox while surrounded by granular snowdrifts.

How does the DVD surpass the opening title in historical value? I received a notice saying that the screenshot is orphaned. --George Ho (talk) 05:13, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Winter solstice holidays

[edit]

Thank you for remembering me on Christmas. I shall lift a mug of warm spiced cider hoping Christmas finds you with good friends near a warm stove. I fondly recall the breathtaking beauty of winter nights with the northern lights and sharply defined stars above shadowy conifers silhouetted against the snow; but I also remember how good it felt to find the first patch of dry ground where one could enjoy the mid-day sun of the equinox while surrounded by granular snowdrifts. This image is a reminder of the warm sun to be found beyond the winter darkness. Thewellman (talk) 18:33, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Screen shot Hero.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Screen shot Hero.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy.
