Aeroperu Flight 603

[edit]

Hello there Sam, I'd like to discuss with you about the summary of the crash of Flight 603. I would like to ask why spatial disorientation? I believe it was a factor of the accident as the crew did not know what their airspeed was or their altitude? I am just wondering thats all and i'd like to have a friendly conversation about it that's all. OrbitalEnd48401 (talk) 16:05, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @OrbitalEnd48401:, Thanks for your note here. Spatial disorientation is defined as the inability of a pilot to correctly interpret aircraft attitude, altitude or airspeed in relation to the Earth or other points of reference, which in broad terms may apply to Aeroperú Flight 603 but a loss of Situation awareness followed by controlled flight into terrain (or water in this case) is a better fit for the summary of this accident. The John F. Kennedy Jr. plane crash is a good example of a pilot affected by spatial disorientation while in control of an aircraft with fully functioning instruments. The crew of Aeroperú Flight 603 received confusing/false data from their instruments but were they suffering from spatial disorientation? They had functioning attitude indicators with the GPWS and radar altimeter also working. I firmly believe the aircraft could have been saved if the crew would have used these. Spatial disorientation is not mentioned anywhere in the official accident report but a lack of situation awareness is. Cheers and happy editing- Samf4u (talk) 17:18, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

West Caribbean Airways Flight 9955

[edit]

Thank you for adding that image and caption. However, even though the image you added is an LET L-410 Turbolet, that was not the aircraft involved. Its registration is HK-4146, not HK-4161. In addition, the aircraft was not in West Caribbean Airways livery and the phot was uploaded after the crash.. This is actual aircraft involved: https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/424009 Tigerdude9 (talk) 20:44, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Aéroperu 603 and CFIT

[edit]

Hey Sam! Good seeing you, I appreciate so much with what you’ve done with aeroperu 603, it’s the accident that I’m most interested in. Anyways, I included it in the list of planes that have CFIT. But a user removed it as they claimed it wasn’t a CFIT accident. Well it is after your conclusion and I back you up 10000%. Anyways if you cold that’ll be ace.

Also good news! I left another talk message on Aeroperú 603 as I found the CVR on YouTube so I was thinking if we should include a link to it so viewers can listen to it. Links still there if you’d like to listen to it and to back your CFIT theory up. Thanks Alex :)

OrbitalEnd48401 (talk) 22:41, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Say also, could you describe what these are and the difference please? Spatial disorientation and situation awareness? Thanks Alex :) OrbitalEnd48401 (talk) 22:50, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @OrbitalEnd48401:, While Aeroperú Flight 603 falls under CFIT I don't think it should be listed in the Controlled flight into terrain article because the crux of that accident is the tape on the Pitot-static system, unlike a "pure" CFIT like Air New Zealand Flight 901.
Study the whole report here https://www.skybrary.aero/bookshelf/books/1719.pdf if you have not already done so.
I want to be very clear here: That Aeroperú Flight 603 falls under CFIT is not my theory, it is a fact that I found in the accident report. Please always remember this project is an encyclopedia based on reliable sources and no original research is allowed. See Wikipedia:NOR. I see you have been warned about this in the past. Please be careful. As far as the difference between spatial disorientation and situation awareness I already explained my thoughts on that, see above. - Samf4u (talk) 19:02, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I did read that report you linked on the talk page which is why I supported you on that issue. Regarding the incident of the accident I have read a lot on it so links to u info regarding the crash are not needed but thanks.

And I’ve made my own notes on both spatial disorientation and situation awareness. Thanks for the help man

OrbitalEnd48401 (talk) 20:30, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Sam, I was wondering if I can include the CVR? See the pages talk page for details. OrbitalEnd48401 (talk) 09:38, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @OrbitalEnd48401:, Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, I've been out of town with very limited internet access. Concerning adding the CVR recording from Youtube to Aeroperú Flight 603: That was added to the article sometime before June of 2011 under the "External links" section at the bottom beneath the "References" section.
May I ask a favor from you? Could you slow down a little and make sure your edits are free of mistakes and learn more about how we do things here. I can see you are anxious to help but honestly you're ruffling a few feathers. A great place for you to start would be to read and fully understand WikiProject Aviation Style guide and Layout of Accidents. If you have any questions please drop me a line here, thanks. - Samf4u (talk) 20:49, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sam, I think your revert there was rather bitey, seeing as it would've been relatively easy to fix that user's mistake, which I more or less did before noticing your edit. At least it would have been easier to fix than that user's other edit. Graham87 07:32, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Graham87:, I agree, perhaps I was a bit hasty. I've left a welcome message on the IP's talk page to smooth things over. Cheers - Samf4u (talk) 13:19, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Help

[edit]

Hey Sam no worries man. Thanks for being really polite me. Just in case I haven’t said. I have autism so I struggle to understand things at times. But aeroperu 603 is personal to me that’s all which is why I work really hard on it that’s all. But yes I do have a questions. Do you trust the ASN database?

OrbitalEnd48401 (talk) 20:53, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes the Aviation Safety Network is considered a reliable source. Many accident articles reference it. - Samf4u (talk) 21:01, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a photo of the HS-TIA, the A310 that crashed as Thai Airways International Flight 261: https://aviation-safety.net/photos/displayphoto.php?id=19981211-0&vnr=1&kind=PC

I tried to upload this photos myself (and yes I was aware of it's copyright status), but it got taken down. If you could add this, I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance. Tigerdude9 (talk) 15:41, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tiger, I have corresponded with Harro Ranter, the owner of that image, before. I believe he would give me permission to use it. I'll se what can be done. - Samf4u (talk) 16:52, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Heerema Marine Contractors user constantly deleting and reverting edits without discussion and leaves aggressive messages behind on my talk page

[edit]

Hi Samf4u, I have been editing the Wikipedia article about Heerema Marine Contractors and I have only added information with refs, added a photo and have removed edits without any refs. However, a user called Ddalgleish is constantly deleting and reverting all edits without going into discussion about it with anyone. Ddalgleish has also left a rather aggressive and rude message on my own talk page. Ddalgleish has also reverted your edits in the article and Ddalgleish has also deleted your message on his own talk page. It seem like Ddalgleish is trying to delete all information about the Nazi history of Heerema Marine Contractors. Would you be able to protect this article from Ddalgleish? Thanks--Jrmikedome (talk) 20:29, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Jrmikedome:, Let me start by saying my revert at Heerema Marine Contractors was done strictly as anti-vandalism, as I noted the page had been blanked and that is almost always vandalism. I am not an administrator and can't protect any articles. Regarding the removal of warning templates: Any editor may remove a warning from his own talk page. I'd advise discussing the differences you two are having, preferably on the articles talk page. You could also start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history. Cheers, - Samf4u (talk) 21:16, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Den vassa eggen

[edit]

Hi Samf4u. Regarding your reversion of my change to Den vassa eggen, is there a better word we could use for the Swedish word "pukor"? "Timpani" (the word I used) is a direct translation. Maybe "tom toms" would be more accurate? I'm helping out with the Wikipedia:Typo Team and the spelling scanner is choking on "pukor." Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jenniferz (talkcontribs) 04:52, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Jenniferz:, Thanks for your note here. My revert of your edit was a mistake on my part as I mistook it as vandalism, please accept my apology. Timbal or Timbau is what I came up with as a translation. Thanks for you contributions to Wikipedia and do sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Ran Ronen (Pekker)

[edit]

Hey Eric I just started a page on Ran Ronen-Pekker and was hoping you could take a look at it (I’m pinging a few other editors too). There’s a dearth of online English language sources for him, so I pulled a lot of it from books, Hebrew websites, and his Hebrew Wikipedia page. I think the work needed is as follows: 1) Sourcing. I’m pretty sure everything on the page as of now is factual. If there is no ref, I probably got it either from a source which isn’t too reliable, or the Hebrew page. please help find a source as opposed to simply removing it. 2) Restructuring. 3) Clarification of the various bodies and organizations mentioned. I.e., squadrons and officer ranks might have a more correct English term for them. 4) wikilinking. 5) naming. In Hebrew most mention him as Ran Pekker. In English it’s usually Ran Ronen. 6) formatting Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Hydromania (talk) 03:22, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Hydromania:, Nice work on Ran Ronen-Pekker. I would suggest adding some Categories. Over all very well done. - Samf4u (talk) 13:30, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism vs disruptive editing

[edit]

Hi Samf4u, thanks for helping to deal with the now-blocked editor in the Kebab Turki Baba Rafi article. I just wanted to point out though, that what they were doing was not vandalism, which is a malicious and deliberate intention to damage Wikipedia. Editors who are edit-warring and pushing an unsourced POV or their own interests (as this user was), even if they disregard any and all content and behavior policies, are nevertheless not vandalizing. It's important to make that distinction if you're using Huggle/Rollback to revert edits without an edit summary, and especially if you revert multiple times. It means that you actually broke the three-revert rule today, and technically could have been blocked yourself for edit warring... For the same reason, it would have been better to use the "disruptive" warning template instead of "vandalism". Just something to keep in mind in the future, and thanks for your understanding. --IamNotU (talk) 17:41, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @IamNotU:, Thanks for your note here. I understand the difference between vandalism and disruptive editing. I just discovered that when using Huggle it is possible to revert an edit and leave a custom edit summary. From now on I'll use this function if I feel the edit is disruptive and not vandalism. Cheers Samf4u (talk) 20:46, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

While writing this, I happened to notice some complaints above, about the use of rollback without edit summaries, and leaving vandalism templates, for problems such as grammar errors. Maybe you know this already, but instead of using the "revert and warn user" button in Huggle, I think you could avoid these complaints by using the "revert edit" button, and use the drop-down arrow to select an appropriate edit summary. This should be used when reverting good-faith edits that have errors. That way you avoid leaving unnecessary vandalism warnings that could upset the user, and could add up and get them in trouble. "Revert and warn user" with the default vandalism warning should only be used for intentionally destructive vandalism and nonsense edits. In the case where it's not clear whether a nonsense edit is malicious or just a mistake, you can use the drop-down arrow on the "revert and warn user" button to select the "test edits" template, or for edits that are unsourced POV-pushing, the "unsourced" template, and so on. I hope this helps... Your anti-vandalism work is much appreciated, and you definitely deserve the barnstars you've been awarded for it! --IamNotU (talk) 20:36, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again for the info on Huggle usage. From now on I'll follow your guidelines. Samf4u (talk) 20:47, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Aeroflot Flight 593

[edit]

You might have already seen this on the the talk page, but I agree with you about how we should keep the CVR transcript. I posted a lengthy response, but no one has responded back. Could they be thinking it over? Tigerdude9 (talk) 16:06, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Tigerdude9:, Will have to give it more time and see if anyone has more comments. If you wanted to take the time to work on a different format for the CVR in your sandbox you could present that on the talk page and see if you get any reaction. Good luck and thanks for your contributions. - Samf4u (talk) 17:20, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Samf4u: I finally made a better version of the transcript. It will be collapsible so it doesn't take up the whole article, and the commentary in italics has been removed (though I have another version where I kept the commentary):

How does it look? Also, you're welcome for my contributions. Tigerdude9 (talk) 16:36, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Tigerdude9: I like that it's collapsible but I'm afraid we won't get a consensus to add it to the article as it is quite similar to what got removed. Take a look at United Airlines Flight 93 starting with the "Hijacking" section. See how the transcript is woven into the text? That's what we need here. Reference #13 of Aeroflot Flight 593 is the complete accident report in Russian. If we could translate it there may be enough detail to mimic the United Airlines Flight 93 article. Keep in mind this only my opinion. - Samf4u (talk) 19:41, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The Aviation Safety Network has an English version of the report. Tigerdude9 (talk) 20:34, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That's excellent! Some of that dialog with the time spoken could be incorporated into the article. - Samf4u (talk) 20:41, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A little more care with Huggle please

[edit]

Hi, can you just take a little more care when reverting edits using Huggle. This and this while they might have removed some sub-optimal promotional material re-introduced an uncited BLP issue regarding the subject. So please check the diffs before reverting especially if you are going to revert several edits, sometimes it's better to do things manually. Thanks, Nthep (talk) 16:57, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Nthep:, After reviewing those edits I understand your concern. At times I get a little trigger happy with Huggle which produces unacceptable results. I will work to improve this. Thank you. - Samf4u (talk) 18:04, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Columbia TN

[edit]

The focus on Columbia Tennessee's history of racisim is absolutely revalavant and should be acknowleged in depth on the city's page as well as the pages of many other southern towns who have in the past committed the same crimes against humanity. As an African-American living in Columbia, I know that is not an accurate depiction of present day Columbia, and should not be the focus of the information available on this city's page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.211.21.162 (talk) 19:46, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

John Dunlap House

[edit]

Eric,

Hi! I'm not sure what "reliable source" to use when speaking of the sale of this home in 1946 by my great-aunt, Martha Ellison Gilman. I'd like to know what the "reliable source" was for the original citation that the home passed out of the family in 1929.'Bold text' In that year, 3 of the 4 children of Charles Jervis Gilman were still living in the home - Charles Ashburton, Elizabeth Jervis, and Mary Gardiner. The eldest, David Dunlap Gilman, had died in December 1914, six months after Martha married Charles in her home town of Richmond, VA. My grandmother and mother moved into the home in 1936. Charles died 8-8-1937, Elizabeth died 12-18-1938 and Mary, who had been head librarian of the Curtis Memoral Library in Brunswick for 41 years, died 10-7-1940. None of Charles Jervis Gilman's 4 children had children of their own, so the home was inherited by Martha. I do have a copy of Mary's will stating such. As the trust of Gardiner Gilman of New Hampshire, which had supported the four siblings, ceased upon Mary's death, Martha maintained the home as long as she could. She held two auctions of the furnishings and then sold the home in 1946. I do not have a bill of sale but I do have newspaper articles advertising the sale. Unfortunately, these are packed for our upcoming move from Missouri to Delaware on March 20.

Yes, after the sale this house was turned into apartments. It is a sad sight today. The stately grounds are gone. A line of trees has been planted right up to the former front door and a house has been built immediately on the other side. The flower and vegetable gardens have been replaced by a parking area for the tenants. The house is in poor condition. My father attended Bowdoin College so I have had many occasions to see the home over the years, most recently in 2016 when we scattered some of my mother's ashes at Saganook, the summer home on Casco Bay which Martha owned from 1922-1946. 1946 was a tramatic year for my mother, losing both of the homes with which she was most familiar.

Please advise - Charlotte Sandquist PhillipsDtrofspandex (talk) 12:30, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Charlotte/@Dtrofspandex:, Thanks for the information about your family and the John Dunlap House. The 1929 date came from From the Falls to the Bay: A tour of historic Brunswick, Maine, its reference number 3 in the John Dunlap House article. I searched for more info about your family and the John Dunlap House aka Gilman Mansion but did not find much. If we could find any reliable, third-party, published sources we could amend the article reflecting on what those sources say. If you do find them I can help you with adding the inline citations. You might try finding some of the books listed in the bibliography section at the bottom of From the Falls to the Bay: A tour of historic Brunswick, Maine. There is also the Pejepscot Historical Society and the National Register of Historic Places listings in Portland, Maine. The correct info is out there and when you find it I'll be more than happy to help improve the article. Good luck. - Samf4u (talk) 13:49, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your edit because it was unreferenced. To add content such as that you would need to have a reliable source. Your edit also introduced format errors. I'm sure you understand Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a blog. Thanks, - Samf4u (talk)

Regarding the warning

[edit]

Please see my talk page and Deeday UKs talkpage I wrote an essay on their. OrbitalEnd48401 (talk) 16:47, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You all dislike the way I edit on Wikipedia, when it comes to the way I’ve done summaries, dates and rewording stuff. Look I do not ignore you, I see some now I say some of the advice you give me is were I disagree, I always stood by reliability, I always have, yes I keep summaries short and I tend to try and make them in order whenever possible, but I’d like to open a discussion about my recommendations as I feel like A) the wording of some stuff does not sound right when you say it out loud. B) the way captions are done on images, I think they should be done as: registration, aircraft involved / similar and then month and year. C) summaries should not be very vague saying Crahsed on landing for example. It doesn’t state why it happened or what caused it. As with just about every accident you have a reason on what caused said accident. I love being here don’t get me wrong, but I was a huge user before I joined as my courses at college relied on your references and info. And countless times there are things that are worded correctly, I find this frustrating as yes it should be in clear English, but there are the same pages made in a different language. Look my autism is not making a mess, as I am very observant when something is out of order, why don’t I voice my opinion on the talk page? Because all I get is it’s always be like that and I would like to hold some kind of big discussion, it might seem impossible but I can’t keep my mind off some the things that sound incorrect. Please understand I am not here to be a pain or make you all think I’m taking the crap. OrbitalEnd48401 (talk) 18:22, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Aeroméxico Connect 2431

@Samf4u: Hi Sam, look I know we’ve gotten into some heat lately but I’d like your help regarding another contributor trying to mess around with the summary of Aeroméxico connect 2431. I’ve told them the information you gave me about it summarising the accident and not needing all causes but they insist it is better. He’s noted his change in the talk page of the article. Hello Samf4u, The edits made on Paul_Kuhr were researched, annotated, and public information, and part of a story that makes his lyrics what they are, and topical to the artist and his band. I have also reached out to the artist and specifically asked if he was OK with these additions, and he was. Because of the template chosen by the articles creator some infoboxes don't show "Aircraft". There's nothing really wrong with that. I'll do this one and if you come across others and would like to change them just look at the diff of my revision, it's quite easy. - Samf4u (talk) 16:29, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry. English is not my mother language. I don't speak and I don't understand English sentences. But I know the ancient Greeks pronounced the name "Anchises" actually: /aŋkʰíːsɛːs/ So I am assuming the article about the historic Anchises is maybe absolutely wrong. All readers should be given a warning of reading wrong information at wikipedia. Why can we read such incorrect pronunciations like /ænˈkaɪsiːz/ here? I think /ænˈkaɪsiːz/ is absolutely incorrect. Maybe /ɑːnˈkiːseɪz/ ist correct as well. Correct-44 (talk) 14:13, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Samf4u: So how are my edits unconstructive? Giving me an template does not instantly solve the sanswer? If you are past caring and are not bothering to talk to me why send thag? I’m here to discuss said unconstructive edits which let’s get it clear it is not unconstructive if there are edits just like it. To say it’s not beneficial when I’ve done it how many times before? So I’ll make it nice and clear to you understand. Because if I’m such a disruptive editor I wouldn’t even be here, oh changing the date function and updating pages is disruptive. Well Sam I’ll make it clear to you, don’t even dare send me a message saying with the followe by lines ‘discuss on my talk page’ if you won’t disucss it. That’s incredibly annoying the fact that you provide no reason at. All. I can easily bring it up in incident talk page. Because if you are not bothering to talk to me at least provide clear and detailed reasons why. Apart from this ‘’ce’’. RE: The Ethiopian Air Flight reversion

[edit]

The facts were correct. 149 people died in that crash. Boeing manufactures the plane, the MAX, the one that was recalled worldwide due to the two crashes, the one this year, and the one last year. As of right now (17 June 2019), it is the deadliest incident of any kind in 2019 involving any aircraft, jet or otherwise (crash, error, terrorism, hijacking, etc.). The source was valid: USA Today articles are perfectly legitimate sources for matters not requiring a journal article (science or medicine). What is the issue? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.16.47.132 (talk) 03:01, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rotary vs. Radial Engine

[edit]

A radial engine has pistons arranged in a radial or circular pattern with pushrods and crankshaft. A rotary engine, also called a Wankel rotary engine has no pistons and no crankshaft. It has one or more often triangular rotors to turn a driveshaft with gear teeth instead. The radial engine was used in ww 1 airplanes. The rotary engine which did not exit until later was used in some Mazda cars such as the RX-7, and in some small helicopters. Thoughts of resulting confusion from the mixing of these terms is infuriating, after I set about correcting it and the problematic know-it-all uncorrected it all over again. Do you also call every V8 a Hemispherical engine or Hemi? I hope not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.252.16.121 (talk) 13:02, 23 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hard to make edits as a new user. Here is the deal. The discovery for HD139139 was made by visual surveyors (citizen scientists) as written in the science paper. That should be part of this page. Deaths in March 2014

[edit]

It seems that I forgot to log in, when making this edit recently. I am only a constructive editor, and if I make changes it's usually based on confirmed facts within the existing reference/s of the article/s, as you would see if you looked further, instead of jumping to conclusions. Your recommendation to discuss them first on the talk page/s sounds fine in theory, but doesn't work in practice (which you can confirm with other editors "in the know"), if the article goes back in time i.e. years. I have left many messages for these, and cannot ever recall being answered. Editrite! (talk) 23:01, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Editrite!:, Thanks for you contributions to WP and your note here. Please do not accuse me of jumping to conclusions.

The fact is, two of your edits that I reverted added info not found in the source given. *Billy Mundi, 71, American drummer and *Joseph F. Weis, Jr., 91, American judge. I could go on to quote lots of WP guidelines but because you are a "new editor" I'll refrain. In the future please remember to criticize edits and not editors. [edit]

Hi, I am new to Wikipedia and I am not sure how to cite the sources. However, you could have did a simple Google search and find out that the information I have provided is true, instead of simply removing it which reversed all the effort that I have made. Wikipedia is a community effort. Whatever that you have did is rather discouraging.

for this one. Not only is it a favorite of mine, but it's actually an article I link to on my user page. Somehow a "ping thanks" didn't seem to be quite enough. Germanwings Flight 9525

[edit]

Hi, i've noticed you've been disagreeing about the callsign. I'd like to ask : DO YOU KNOW HOW FLIGHT DESIGNATOR Codes work ?

GWI18G is actually an ICAO code but may be referenced to as a callsign because it appears on ATC screens but, is therefore interpreted as :"Germanwings 18 Golf" (Golf is the phonetic word for "G". T.Man21flex (talk) 13:15, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi T.Man21flex, I know how they work. Do You? You made an edit summary stating "Though the numbers and letters after the first 3-digits on the ICAO code are always included in the callsign !". You may want to take a look at National Airlines Flight 102 where the ICAO# and the call sign have nothing in common. Also please remain civil at all times. Shouting on a users talk page is considered rude.
I have started a discussion concerning call sign nomenclature here, please join in if you like. - Samf4u (talk) 17:26, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Saying stuff like this when someone validly contests one of your many hasty redactions is rude.

Not going to get into a pissing contest, as that shouldn't be what Wiki is about, but given the large percentage of your edits that get re-reverted, I don't think there is much to learn from you. Hi,

I added South Korea–United Kingdom relations since it was a Korean Air Aircraft which crashed in the United Kingdom and investigated by the AAIB. Also there are many articles of Aviation Accidents/Incidents that have Country1–Country2 relation categories

New Page Patrol needs experienced volunteers
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions and review our instructions page. You can apply for the user-right HERE. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here)(click me!) 20:21, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New page reviewer granted

[edit]

Hi Samf4u. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. ~Swarm~ {sting} 20:22, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Swarm. - Samf4u (talk) 19:42, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Titanic II

[edit]

Thank you for reverting the recent edit of Titanic II. There are two replica Titanic projects going on. The Romandisea Titanic is under construction in China, although it is proceeding very slowly. That one will be permanently moored in a reservoir and won't be going anywhere. The Clive Palmer project is intended to be an ocean-going vessel. It is not under construction but marine architectural firm Deltamarin says that they are still engaged in the project. A shipyard contract has not been announced. If curious you can review the Titanic II talk page with the editorial comments regarding the progress (more accurately, lack thereof) of this project. Blue Riband► 15:34, 17 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistiency Between UPS Airlines Flight 6 '"See also" Section and Asiana Airlines Flight 991 "See also" Section

[edit]

Hello, Samf4u. I noticed that when you reverted part of my edit on the Asiana Airlines Flight 991 article, you removed ValuJet Flight 592 from the "See also" section. However, ValuJet Flight 592 still appears on the UPS Airlines Flight 6 article. Should I re-add ValuJet Flight 592 to the Asiana Airlines Flight 991 article or remove it from the UPS Airlines Flight 6 article? Thank you. Why can't I edit Userpedia? (talk) 02:06, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Why can't I edit Userpedia?:, UPS Airlines Flight 6 and Asiana Airlines Flight 991 are very similar. ValuJet Flight 592 while also caused by a fire differs in several ways. It was a scheduled passenger flight using a different aircraft type and the source oif the fire was dissimilar. It is my opinion that ValuJet Flight 592 be removed from UPS Airlines Flight 6. In case you are not aware of Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Style guide/Layout (Accidents), please have a look. I consult it all the time. Happy editing! - Samf4u (talk) 14:21, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for abusing you

[edit]

I am sorry for abusing you. To be honest, right before I was blocked I was going to comment on your talk page and abuse you like WilliamJE, by saying you'll quot Twitter just like the European colonialists quit their colonial territories.

I crossed a line by abusing you in edit summaries and by trying to comment on your page, even if I did it in anger out of being told what to do. That was no excuse for my behaviour, I knew it was wrong but I discarded it after getting furious. I've realised that I cannot simply do what I want, like I did at the Karachi plane crash article, even if I feel it is incorrect. For that I'll like to apologise. Please accept it. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Air India Flight 182

[edit]

Does the fact that Jennie Adams the Ticket agent who let the terrorists bag and bomb on to the plane when the terrorist had no ticket and therefore the bag should not have been allowed onto the plane according to the anti terrorist rules at the time have anything to do with why the plane blew up? YES it does! So you are saying the bomb she let on the plane against the rules has nothing to do with the article even tho it explains how it happened?

How do you think the ONLY reason the plane was blown up by the terrorist? Is not constructive to the article?

Do you think disallowing such an important fact in a trial, paper even news paper report would be clearly biased reporting?

This is what I said "Does the fact that Jennie Adams the Ticket agent who let the terrorists bag and bomb on to the plane when the terrorist had no ticket and therefore the bag should not have been allowed onto the plane according to the anti terrorist rules at the time! Should it be in the article as it the ONLY reason the plane was blown up by the terrorist bomb that should not have been allowed on the plane!" Is anything incorrect with what I said? Which rule do you claim it breaks? How do you think it breaks that rule? Please explain! (I look forward to you avoiding the point) --HalloHelloHalloHello (talk) 22:55, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for starting the AfD for Bigsworth chart board, as I was.considering doing it myself. I usually use Twinkle, but haven't used Page Curation, so I don't know anything about it. You put the citation in your edit summary, not in the article. That's not sufficient. It has to be cited in the article itself. - BilCat (talk) 23:07, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-automatic rifles

[edit]

I don't understand how the sentence "Semi-automatic rifles are an excellent candidate for self-defense" complies with Wikipedia's policy that articles present a neutral point of view. That's why I removed it. The material that was referenced was also not neutral, it was saying how great semi-automatics are, citing a gun enthusiast magazine. The point of the revision was not to describe laws but to explain that worldwide, it is rare for semi-automatic rifles to be used for civilian self-defense. This is accurate and neutral as far as I can see. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.219.227.30 (talk) 11:22, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I think you've erred here by reverting this ip edit, which has a good rationale (one I agree with) and especially in templating their talk page with a warning for what was actually a constructive edit. Valenciano (talk) 23:35, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Valenciano:, Yes the mistake was mine. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I've removed the warning template and left in its place a welcome message for 167.248.1.102. Samf4u (talk) 16:24, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, and thank you for removing vandalism from Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles of 1961. We appreciate this, but unfortunately your edit was not successful in restoring the article to its pre-vandalised state. For future reference, it is better to deal with vandalism by checking the article's page history to determine how it appeared before it was vandalised. You can then restore the whole article, or the relevant part of it, to an appropriate earlier version. If you simply delete the visible vandalism then any content removed or overwritten by the vandal is lost. See How to deal with vandalism for details. Thank you. - Sumanuil. Hello, what is wrong with the page of Pakistan International Airlines Flight 631 that you removed? 64.141.44.242 (talk) 00:45, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I saw you giving me a warning. But I don't fully understand why. Is it because I added many references? 64.141.44.242 (talk) 00:53, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see you restored the page. (Will the warning also be removed?) What is going on? 64.141.44.242 (talk) 00:57, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi 64.141.44.242, I noticed you changed aircraft to airplane while using Huggle. We almost always prefer aircraft. Thanks for your work on the article. I will remove the warning template on your talk page. Happy editing! Samf4u (talk) 00:59, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, I didn't know that, that I have to use the word aircraft. Strange that with such an edit the article is directly deleted. But thanks that everything is fixed again! 64.141.44.242 (talk) 01:03, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Samf4u, I was wondering if you could reply to my message on this IP's talk page when you get a chance. (Apologies if the ping didn't go through, or if I should have messaged you here rather than at that talk page in the first place.)

Invitation to join New pages patrol

[edit]

Hello Samf4u!

  • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Question about your edits to "Chuggaaconroy"

[edit]

Hi there Samf4u! I was hoping you could give me some insight about the recent hubbub of activity at a YouTuber's page, Chuggaaconroy, that I stumbled across when reviewing recent changes. I reverted an edit that you had in part contributed to, as I had some concerns on both sourcing and BLP "DUE" attention to fringe gossip. Then, when I saw how much more experienced you are, especially in protecting the encyclopedia, I figured that I might be missing something so I came to your talk :-)

I do not know who the subject of the page is, I'm an old fogey and totally out of the Youtube/gamer loop. However, I *did* see a bunch of IPs and accounts essentially warring to include what appears UNDUE gossip by my understanding of BLP guidelines: what particularly worried me was the edit warring over "he apologized for this reason, not that" etc, implying some POV/OR going on from different sides.

The reason I fully removed the statement in question is that it's sourced to two very unreliable-looking blogs with zero legitimacy that I can detect. The second one was, in fact, clearly one of those sites that generates AI-driven prose in response to frequent search engine queries (oh how they are the bane of the modern Internet, imo).

Perhaps I misread the situation, and again, you're clearly light-years ahead of me, so I trust your read on the situation much more than the apparent SPA IPs that are editing to get this into the article. Please let me know what your read on the situation is, and I'm happy to self revert if you have good reason for this bit of info being DUE at this time. However, I would want to search for a better source, as the two blogs cited previously really lack encyclopedic credibility from all I can see... if you think the info belongs I can do a little search and see if I can find a more appropriate source! Thanks and happy editing. Chiselinccc (talk) 04:13, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Chiselinccc:, My first edit to Chuggaaconroy on Feb 17 was while using Wikipedia:Huggle. I discovered an an edit by an IP address user with an edit count of 2, remove referenced material from the article with no edit summary. Usually I will revert such edits.
I should have done a better job of locating a reliable source for what I re included to the article.
I agree with you that it should be excluded for now. I have no dog in this fight and honestly couldn't care less about Chuggaaconroy.
Keep up the great work here, I think you're doing fine. Cheers! Samf4u (talk) 19:22, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Aw thank you for the explanation, and I totally get it! I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something, as I could see your level of meaningful contribution and don't want to undermine such efforts to protect the encyclopedia.
I have no dog in said fight either, hopefully the hubbub will settle down, lol. I hadn't come across Huggle yet but will be orienting myself to plain ole Twinkle this coming week, so someday I might get acquainted with tools like that too. Have a great day and thanks for all your work here, you definitely jumped out as someone I could trust for a "sanity check" on this matter and I'm glad we were able to concur ☺️🙌 Chiselinccc (talk) 23:18, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gustavo Hamer

[edit]

Hello. I changed Gustavo Hamer´s birthyear from 1800 to 1997. It seems you changed that back. May I ask why? I am currently watching him play football and he does not look like a 223 year old man. Cornelisprul (talk) 20:14, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Really? Verified right here for this movie. But even if they get it wrong, you should explain that in an edit summary. Drmies (talk) 16:03, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And here for the French Connection. Drmies (talk) 16:05, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a big mistake here. I using the same source (https://www.oscars.org) But using the date the movie was made instead of the following year when the awards are given. Thanks for catching this. I'll apologize to the IP and fix the mess I made. Samf4u (talk) 16:09, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure thing--thanks. Please, next time, be more complete in your edit summaries when you're rolling something back. I saw your edits and was about to block the IP editor, who'd already been given a level-4 warning--but then I saw the warning was for this and I decided to look more carefully. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 16:17, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Instantly Reverting my edit on The Boring Company

[edit]

Why did you appear to have an autorevert on The Boring Company page? I added safety information, and you immediately removed it. JKNZ99 (talk) 22:28, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JKNZ99, You would need a reliable source to add that. There are useful links on your Talk Page. I suggest you read them. Thanks, Samf4u (talk) 22:59, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, after attempts to complain on three and possibly more users' talk pages, I asked JKNZ99 to centralize the discussion at Talk:The Boring Company § Edit Reverting on positive additions - Negative Bias. While you have already explained your concerns here, it may be helpful if you could take a moment to do so on the article's talk page too. Thanks in advance and best regards ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:13, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great thanks. So if I find another source, and add this information, you will not revert it?

Reverted edit

[edit]

Hi, regarding my recent edit on the capicua (protein) article that you recently reverted, I believe the edit is constructive because it fixes the grammar of the sentence (comparing the proteins not the species). 70.108.41.185 (talk) 22:22, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
