Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Cadlaxer23. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. shoy (reactions) 14:00, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A question about other accounts

[edit]

Have you used any other account or accounts to edit? If so, which accounts? The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 14:14, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for answering. From the relevant editing history it is clear that you must mean the account MeproUS. That being so, you were told about the conflict of interest policy, the requirement to disclose paid editing, and the policy on promotional editing at 20:27 on 12 December, and continued to edit in the same way; you were reminded of them at 21:44 on 12 December 2018, and continued to edit in the same way, although from a different account; you were told about them again at 14:00 on 13 December; you again edited in a way which was contrary to the conflict of interest guidelines and the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use, and which was also unambiguously promotional. Most people who edit Wikipedia start doing so without a full knowledge of what is acceptable and what isn't, and therefore make mistakes; I did so myself when I started editing. However, to continue doing the same things after several times being informed of the situation is a different matter. I have therefore blocked your account from editing. If you wish to start making contributions to the encyclopaedia in line with Wikipedia policies and guidelines, you may request an unblock by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of this page. Please note that this will entail, among other things, undertaking not to continue to edit in ways which appear to promote your business, and not to create or edit any article relating to your business. I also advise you to read the guide to appealing blocks if you are considering making an unblock request. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 17:42, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
