Safi is probably notable , but this is a tribute, not and encyclopedia article .

If there was a festsschrift, it very much counts for notability , but you have to give the necessary publication information about it. And notability for a research depends primarily upon their published work, so you should list the 4 or 5 most cited papers, in formal bibliographic format, with citation counts from Google Scholar or a similar source

Avoid name-dropping. To indicated DeBakey's status for anyone who might not know, just link to the article on him.

Congratulations. It needs a little work though. Do you know about Did You Know?? Your submission is about 35% too small to qualify, plus it has the cleanup issues, but this is something to think about for your next submission.
