Requested username:

Request reason:

I was unaware using my Bands name was against the terms. I created an account with the intention of submitting a Wikipedia page for my band. I had an article written for it about us. We are a local band here in New Braunfels, and we have a decent following. People constantly ask us the same questions about us, and we wanted to make an article about us so that people could learn more about us.

Decline reason:

The new username is perfectly fine, and I was on the verge of doing the rename, but what's the point? We aren't going to unblock you to write about your band, and you seem to be indicating that you have no other interest in editing - that being the case, there's no reason to tie up resources renaming your account when it isn't going to be unblocked. (Not an admin, but I've seen several requests like this) You're not going to get unblocked just to promote your band, see the conflict of interest policy (and not a web host policy while you're at it). You're only going to get unblocked if you're going to write about something other than your band. If you want a place to write about yourselves, consider making a webpage instead of a Wikipedia article. creffett (talk) 23:53, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Please also see WP:GARAGE and WP:BAND. Wikipedia cares only about topics - musical artists included - that have met its requirements to be notable enough for inclusion... which means "of interest to the world at large and over a period of time". Being of local interest only is not enough to be considered worthy of inclusion. This isn't a place to gain publicity for your group; it is a place to report what other independent writers have already written about you. If no such sources exist, then your band cannot have an article on Wikipedia. And even if they did, you should not be the person to do it, given your conflict of interest and the inherent difficulty you will have in writing from the required neutral point of view. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 02:52, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
