Questionable edits to Kurt Cobain article[edit]

This editor's edits are somewhat questionable. He previously attempted to prod all the chaos magicians. Now he keeps adding the category of chaos magician to Kurt Cobain even though nothing is mentioned in the article about it. He has also personally attacked me and appears to think he knows who I am, attempting to expose (someone's) name. He is the series of IPs he has recently edited. See the talk pages for warnings given. He switched IPs to avoid 3RR. I'm not even sure how to report a roving violation.

No bots, just Lupin's recent2.js with a custom dictionary file and an ancient version of Henna's VF. Some use VandalProof by AmiDaniel which works equally well, if not better. Non-Latin username blocks[edit]

There is some dispute as to whether these blocks are supported. There are many active editors who do just fine contributing with non-latin names. Per the discussion here, there seems be support for reccomending for to people creating a username at en.WP to not use non-latin characters. But does not appear to be consensus for blocking people on sight who already have a non-latin account at another Wikimedia wiki. Will you please start taking these non-latin username through Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names in order to better gather opions on the mattter? My personal feeling is that we need to deprecate this portion of username policy, as it runs contrary to meta:Single login specifications. There is not a paticular case, it is rather that people do not agree on how the policy is interpereted. There are claims the non-latin usernames are not be automatically blocked and therefore no reason to change the policy [2]. I thought if RfC's were used it would shed light on how people are interepreting the policy. Then we might be able to hammer something out. Right now there is not even agreement on what has happened with non-latin name in the past. Since there are several active non-latin editors it does not appear there was a widespread community effort to rid en.WP of non-latin usernames. I am told the policy does not need changing since there were only a trivial number of blocks. This is why I left messages for the admins who invovled in blocking non-latin names. If non-latin usernames are no longer blocked for whatever reason I would be happy. But I thought if anyone still wanted to make these blocks taking it through RfC could clarify the issue. I have been disscusing the issue at the talk page, and there has also been disscusion on mailing lists. Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names looks like a good channel for sorting things out when a name comes into question, but it just isn't my area of focus. That is why I asked if you had something specific in mind; to the best of my knowledge I've never blocked a contributor solely because their username contained non-Latin characters. You will find that I take a relatively lax interpretation of WP:U, and will not enforce a username block unless that name is patently offensive or a blatant doppleganger of another contributor. Vandalism to Hook and lateral play[edit]

Figured since you got the power to warn users and such, 70.130.155.61 was hitting up the Hook and lateral play (American football) page a bit with some vandalization. Me and a couple of other users have reverted it's stuff, and looking though the history portion of the page, he hit more than once. From what I understand, YouTube links are not explicitly prohibited according to Wikipedia:External links/YouTube#Recommendations, but this guideline extension is still undergoing development. Once again, you've removed information from an article I watch. This time, the information was cited. I did see your reasoning in the history, but there isn't much other way to cite the info. I would like to say, in the source's defense, that the information is coming from official sources (the official message board, the official myspace). In fact, the policy regarding sources only mentions personal websites [4], but I doubt that it means to say that citing the subject's own website is out of the question. Of course, this only touches upon the band's 'official' myspace. [5] The other citation, the forum, is an FAQ in the form of a forum post. The forum is AFI's official, hosted on their official fanclub's site [6]. Therefor, I think that it is an appropriate place to cite from, regardless of what format the media is in. I could definitely find interviews from big names that would give the impression, if that would be appropriate. Autoblock[edit]

Actually, while I am able to make edits, it can be very cumbersome. To leave this comment, I had to clear and reload the page (CTRL-F5) three times. The first two times I got the autoblock message pertaining to 149.106.224.2. I've been experiencing the same symptoms editing articles and answering Ref. Desk questions. This IP is a shared college IP. If the Wikipedia software is supposed to let me edit from it as long as I'm signed in, then the Wikipedia software is not working well. In any case, I am a big fan of blocking vandals, but if there's not another solution, I'd humbly suggest that you unblock the IP, since the vandalism will probably have died down, and meanwhile I'm trying to improve articles. Problems with User 68.88.68.110[edit]

This guy keeps vandalising the Ramones page and template, by adding an unsourced member to the band. When a source proved said member was not part of the band, he deleted the source. I have asked him repeatedly to stop be he has added back this wrongful information countless times.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand how Wikiquote is relevant to the Trivia section on the Overnight Delivery page. There are numerous movie entries which feature quotes from films, and they aren't removed to be added to Wikiquote. And this information is verified, and is a note of interest to trivia buffs, so I don't see what it hurts to leave this on the main Overnight Delivery page. --CJ 11:21, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Citing sources[edit]

Hi there -- I spoke to you before about the Pine Crest School page and you informed me that everythign on wikipedia needs quotes and that using the "citation needed" notation is not okay. Please see Maurice Wilkins -- the entire DNA section is basically marked "citation needed" after each sentence. By what you told me before, since you deleted my work off of the Pine Crest School page since it wasn't cited, does that mean that the entire DNA section on the Wilkins page should be deleted because there are no sources? Mount Everest[edit]

Hi, external links again. An editor has been adding details of a trip and external links to a site with which sings his praises and may be his own. These are the sort of additions and links that we agreed should not be added. I am told that 480 people climbed Everest this year, many for causes. If we all add our trip reports then the article will overflow with them. I reverted him twice but if I revert him again he will add them back again and I will be neutralised by 3RR. He makes no attempt to put the case on the talk page. Other editors of this site seem to be either not around or uninterested. Please advise me, thanks. I didn't say this was hypothetical. I need to know because I'm consistently accused of being a sockpuppet of various users and such arguments are being used to disenfranchise my edits. I don't know the circumstances behind the original block or what the original block was. I figured the best way to get around having to go deep into finding out why is seeing if its true that indef-banned users can't make good edits. This is a dynamic IP so I have no control over which IP I get. I would get a username but that would likely be "banned" as a sockpuppet of my IPs or whatever user anyway. I've tried bringing it up before, it gets long and people don't respond after a while so I go back to square one explaining what I know to a new user. I think the best way is to simply see if its ok to just revert someones edits based on accusations of being a banned user sockpuppet. Template:Userbox unprotection[edit]

Would you please help me on editing the Template:Userbox. i've found from history tab that, you've re-protected it, after Aaron Brenneman unprotected it, on Dec 19, 2006. I want to add few extra features so that text line gap space and cell padding space, etc can also be specified, so that, overal height of userbox can be properly set at 45px, which is the recommended userbox height. Danny Daniel and suspected socks[edit]

Since you were the one who blocked the vandal Danny Daniel, I'd like to ask you this question: When should I report Poppapop (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) to WP:AIV? I believe that this may be a sockpuppet of Danny Daniel (see WP:LTA#Danny Daniel and sockpuppets for more information) because the user edited articles related to The Fairly OddParents and anime (articles Fairy Idol and Avatar: The Last Airbender). The user also recreated the hoax article De-Animated, which is directly related to Re-Animated, another article in which Danny Daniel's sockpuppets seem to edit. Hello Can't sleep, clown will eat me. I noticed a somewhat suspicious post on my talk page by a user called User:Fathatsack. I looked through their contributions and found this edit summary in their contributions, which links to one of those pesky java script loops. A sockpuppet of JINXTENGU left the same java script loop in a message by one of his sockpuppets as shown here. I really think this is another sockpuppet of his. I appreciate your opinion. As for the nullabor demoscene afd - keep - I am interested to see that how afd process can get hijacked to notoriety when the original issue gets more or less ignored - that has happened on two this week, I think there is good argument for alternative measures at this stage - but as I am a plain old ed and no admin - I shall just watch and learn I suppose.

Since you seem to be the resident SoCal gang expert (or at least the SoCal gang article vandal-whacker—that's where I usually see your edits on my watchlist, except for the occasional haiku vandal revert), I was wondering if you would take a look at this new article: Casa Blanca Rifa.

(Amazingly, it's already indexed by Google.) If you googlesearch -Wikipedia you only get 14 hits. To me, it looks like about 20% Original research, and 80% Nonsense ("It's notoriety grew when gang members shot down a police helicopter in the mid 1970s, then again in the early 1990s.").

The big problem is finding reliable sources. Even the couple of websites for the gang consultants are pretty iffy in my opinion, because they have their own agendas. On the other hand, much of what I see on gangs in the Los Angeles Times is pretty clueless. Some of the police dept. webpages on gangs, however, have been some of the most clueless. Adding death dates to biographies of living persons[edit]

I have noted a recent increase in this form of blatant vandalism. Imo it is obnoxious, because it is not immediately obvious to readers and anti-vandal patrollers. Like vandalism by registered users, it tends to go unreverted for much longer than obvious vandalism. Recently it survived on the page of a well known UK politician for 48 hours. and should imo be responded to with bv warnings and block on first and second offence respectively. Hi Keesie. Since the article is not an exact recreation per se (although the content is similar to what was previously deleted), this is somewhat of a grey area. The referencing style of the current article still leaves something to be desired, but that may or may not be something that can be resolved through editing if the sources are valid. Local churches[edit]

Bart, someone inserted a libelous attack message on the local churches talk page which includes some kind of illegal insertion to prevent further editing. When I tried to respond, the SPAM FILTER blocked me...but only for this section. Clearly, whoever planted this 'bomb' knew what they were doing. How can labeling a church as 'organized crime' be a fair discussion? How can not allowing an alternative viewpoint be fair (the sheer hypocrisy of which is astounding...the charge made below is not allowing alternative viewpoints, yet the user inserted a Trojan spam to prevent alternative viewpoints). Please forward this to a higher editor.
