Orphaned fair use image (Image:Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors1.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 14:58, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I ended up using a larger version of that pic instead, so it's redundant and should be deleted. -Captain Crawdad 16:26, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Wire

[edit]

Thanks for your recent copy editing of many articles relating to The Wire (TV series). It is appreciated.--Opark 77 19:56, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You betcha! -Captain Crawdad 21:47, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dragaera

[edit]

Also, nice work with getting all the Dragaera pages up and in good condition! It was pretty heartbreaking to see how little there was on that series 6 months ago, but in that short amount of time you've added a lot and now there's a lot of information on the series. --FlareXyron 20:46, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks! I, too, was disappointed by the lack of Dragaera-related articles, so I've been rereading the books and trying to put things in order. -Captain Crawdad 18:04, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jamie Lannister

[edit]

G'day Crawdad,

Something I noticed while perusing the Lannister page, Jamie's entry has the following, horribly horribly bad sentence:

"It should be noted that despite the almost universal disdain Jaime has earned by being a Kingslayer, it is revealed through a series of flashbacks that he killed King Aerys, who had a penchant for burning things and often people, and his Hand, the pyromancer Rossart, because in his paranoia, Aerys had hidden caches of wildfire throughout King's Landing, threatening the lives of all the inhabitants."

which doesn't really make sense. I don't even know what it's trying to say. Having only read the books in question once, I'm not confident in my ability to re-write it in a sensible fashion.

Also, I changed the ASOIAF page back to the non-grid pics, but with a reduced size - I really did find the 150px ones overwhelming.

WLU 14:59, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, thanks for bringing that to my attention. If you can sort out all the clauses, it's actually true, but you can only do that if you already know what it's talking about. I hacked out the paragraph and worked the information into the rest of the article.
The cover pics look fine now. There really isn't much need for them to be very big, as plain as the covers are. -Captain Crawdad 18:44, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ASoIAF series

[edit]

G'day Crawdad, happy to see you still scuttling about (in a positive, crawdad-sort of way). Question about the italicization of ASoIaF in the HBO section - is there policy? I was under the impression that usually it's bold. I don't have a beef or anything, I'm just curious for future ref. Plus I love (and fear) the big orange box telling me I have a message. Thanks, WLU 17:37, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chills back at 'cha. I know realworld is italics/underline, I thought WP was bold if it's on its own page. I knew it held for the intro, wasn't sure for the rest of the article.
Incidentally, you posted the reply on my user page, not my user talk, so I didn't get a spine-chilling orange warning box :( I feel so gyped. If I turn up a definitive answer regarding the bold/italics controversy, I'll let you know. Unless you don't care. In which case I'll just note it and go on with my life. WLU 18:37, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct sir, thus. WLU

Mark Margolis

[edit]

Why did you delete perfectly good and true information on this actor? Aren't people allowed to know the names of the specific movies he made with D.A., or are you just one of those wikifacists who enjoy deleting everything all the time? If the article was overlong, I might have understood the need to shorten bits and pieces to make it more comprehensible, but deleting things wont bring anything good, unless it's a better rewrite or a deletion of untrue information.KnatLouie 17:21, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are absolutely correct, I was just angry because I found out that a whole bunch of my recent updates had been deleted, which is getting quite tiresome. The main problem was that most fans of Margolis (at least the handfull I know of) know him mostly as "Sol" from Pi, and you removed that info. I concur that my wording was quite bad, but as long as the main point got through, it was okay, and someone with a better knowledge and skill in English could fix it later (it's not my first language).KnatLouie 18:07, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barnshine for Crawdad

[edit]
You know how sometimes you hate checking your watchlist, especially when you see that certain someone or an IP has edited your favorite articles? The Ray of Sunshine is bestowed on that person that, when you see their name at the top of your watchlist, you know that all is right with the world, you can relax, and do something besides cleaning up another mess.

Thanks Crawdad, always glad to see your contributions whenever we land on the same page. I gave one of these to NeoFreak as well; I'm afraid his was a bit more meaningful because of the tremendous effort involved in getting it to look right (and it still doesn't). Yours was just a cut-and-paste job, but I hope that doesn't make it any less special. If so, I'll try to find some sort of absurdly difficult barnstar to give you, which will take hours of my precious time away from fighting vandals and grade school kids adding the word penis to every page. Honestly, are the words 'Bone' and 'Joint' really that funny when used anatomically? WLU 20:00, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A Feast for Crows

[edit]

When does LF admit he bribed him? What page? Not being confrontational, I want to re-read that part so I can comprehend it better; must've missed that admission the first time through. I thought he was just telling her that he could trust Corbray to act true to form, rather than any accomadation between them.Daemon8666 21:32, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, thanks, I did misread that part.Daemon8666 22:17, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted the last two paragraphs. By the way, I would like the summary maintain some mystery, beyond the chronological description. WikiNew 19:49, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I like good writing though. Try and fully explain the machine in the final paragraph, because the conclusion is where the film fully explains it all. Up until that point the trick still isn't made clear. WikiNew 19:59, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. The crux of the film I feel is that at its conclusion, the story is revealed to be science fiction. Alientraveller 20:22, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If we are describing the film, then dramatically the film reveals its trick at the end with the full showing of what Angier does. I won't continue any longer, but do post this on the film's talk page. Alientraveller 20:36, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of The Paths of the Dead

[edit]

I've nominated The Paths of the Dead, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that The Paths of the Dead satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Paths of the Dead and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of The Paths of the Dead during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. JohnRDaily 00:41, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have put in my bit to keep these articles (this one in particular). What I can suggest is that you add more information that asserts notability, gives discussion of commercial and critical reaction, complete with sources (in-line citation and full reference section. If you have any sources do add them. If you need any assistance I can give what I can. Go for it.! :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 13:14, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use disputed for Image:Comeouttoplay.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Comeouttoplay.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:10, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Killer_flick_cover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Killer_flick_cover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Fair use rationale for Image:Athyra.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Athyra.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Thanks for uploading Image:Fivefingersofdeath.JPG. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Proposed deletion of Wars in A Song of Ice and Fire

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Wars in A Song of Ice and Fire, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

no third party sourcing, non-notable fancruft

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. -- The Red Pen of Doom 02:03, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Deadmanfilm.JPG

Nomination of Organizations in A Song of Ice and Fire for deletion

[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article Organizations in A Song of Ice and Fire, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Organizations in A Song of Ice and Fire until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Yoenit (talk) 19:57, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Paths_of_the_Dead.jpg

[edit]

I have tagged File:Paths_of_the_Dead.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 08:41, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As the most recent volume contributor to the article, this is to notify you that the article Athyra has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced since 2008. Five years?

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Lexein (talk) 09:04, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Off the Grid: Life on the Mesa

[edit]

The article Off the Grid: Life on the Mesa has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No assertion of importance for this film

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
