This is not a publicly accessible site, and it specifies that "You must be a member of the Carey Baptist Grammar School community and have a User ID and password." Are you saying your uncle gave you his login details? The reference Meters noted that you included above says that you accessed the site. Your explanations are stretching credulity. If you do have a connection with the school, you are far better off disclosing it now and working with the conflict of interest guidelines. Yes, my uncle has given his details over for my research on only a couple of occasions in recent years. If that means I have a somewhat ‘conflict of interest’, then I am happy to abide by those rules in future. My uncle and the document also has the history of the school in that document that you are referring to. There is no need to take another picture of it as the information has been deleted from the article of Wikipedia. As a result, I consider this issue closed. James Richard May

Hi Carey3146. I noticed that you started the article James Richard May that has been nominated for deletion as it does not demonstrate that he meets WP:BIO. Are you able to find more articles and references to show that he meets that or WP:NACADEMIC criterion 2? The set of awards looks like he possibly does meet that, but the article doesn't make a strong claim for it at present, and I'm having difficulty finding references online in a field I'm not familiar with as my searches are swamped by pages about James May. No categories on sandbox pages

As your sandbox page at User:Carey3146/sandbox/Jim May (chemical engineer) has had to be removed from categories four or five times now because you keep readding it to categories, just a reminder that user sandbox pages are not permitted to be filed in mainspace categories as if they were articles. This is not an optional rule that you're free to ignore or disregard at your leisure; it's a mandatory rule that you must follow, and that you can actually be blocked from editing Wikipedia at all on grounds of disruption if you persist in editwarring over. So just a friendly warning that the sandbox version of the page must stay out of article categories, and you may be cruising toward serious consequences if it gets returned to article categories again. Alan Jackson occupation

Hello @Carey3146. I noticed that you reverted back to listing multiple occupations for Alan Jackson (businessman) in the |occupation= parameter of {{Infobox person}}.

Per {{infobox person}}, |occupation= is for "Occupation(s) as given in the lead.". Note that a title or a position is not an occupation. I think the lead accurately captures that he was a "businessman", although I would be open to changing that to "business executive" or even "corporate executive". While it is tempting to want to add more in the lead or in |occupation= we need to be mindful of MOS:ROLEBIO, which states:

Avoid overloading the lead paragraph with various and sundry roles

Remember, too, that MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE says to "summarize key facts" and:

The less information it contains, the more effectively it serves that purpose, allowing readers to identify key facts at a glance.

I do not think adding "accountant", "director", and "land developer" warrant a place of prominence in the infobox. But I am open to hearing good-faith arguments based in Wikipedia guidelines for including them. What do you think? — Archer1234 (t·c) 12:32, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

I think "business executive" encompasses his being a director, chairman, managing director, CEO, etc. I think a reader of the article is not going to be so much more well-informed of key facts about him with the addition of "director" in the infobox. I would be in favor of changing the {{short description}}, the lead, and |occupation= infobox parameter so that all of them call him a "business executive". If we change one of those, we should change all of them, although I do recognize that the disambiguation for the article title says "(businessman)", but that shouldn't dissuade us from making appropriate changes within the article. We can revisit the name of the article after settling on this issue.

Note that in addition to using |occupation= there is an option to use either |title= or |office= (but not both) to list notable positions or titles he has held. Again, we should take our cue from what is summarized in the lead and not use either of those parameters to list various and sundry positions.

By the way, it is considered bad form to edit an article to make changes to elements that are under active debate and discussion. That will often be interpreted as edit-warring, which is not constructive. Better to leave it as it is and when consensus is reached or the dispute resolved, then the article can be updated if necessary to reflect that. — Archer1234 (t·c) 23:16, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

While I appreciate the distinction you are making, I am not (yet) persuaded that the distinction is significant enough to warrant including "director" in addition to "business executive". But I am open to further discussion on it. Let's take the discussion to Talk:Alan Jackson (businessman) and seek inputs from other editors. In response to your question, I have no relations nor connections with this man. For context, I am interested in business history. When I was scrolling the internment and found Alan Jackson (the musician) I also found under that article about some businessman. This intrigued me and so, I heavily researched. Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Jim May (chemical engineer), without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. I understand that some of the issues in the maintenance templates should still be there, due to an ongoing issue regarding some of them. However, the issue concerning the notability of the article, is something I find irrelevant to even be there, due to the discussion in January this year, that declared that the article was notable enough to keep. Since then, further references have been added. Thus, I believe it right to remove that notability issue on the maintenance tab. What is your perspective? Alan Jackson is due for scrutiny

Please read WP:OWN, which you have not quite exhibited so far. A matter of some concern with this article and with Jim May is the sheer quantity of both edits and marginal (often less than marginal) references you have added to the article(s). Without this attention from you neither article would have drawn the attention of detail oriented editors.

I feel it to be unlikely that Jackson will be brought to the wider attention of the community at AfD, but cannot rule it out. At present I see some sort of notability. The article, however, requires the cutting of any "fact" unable to be verified. That is fine to edit the Jackson article if you see fit. However, I believe there will be quite a few indecent references, with few info being not referenced properly. I think the question of notability is beyond even questioning for this article. The reason why I edited these two articles was not my connections, as I have none, but because I have heavily researched them, both on line and in person. This is why I have edited a lot. Assuredly it is fine to edit Jackson, but not as "I" see fit. It is fine to edit it within the policies and rules here.

Firstly, The Canberra Times reference here: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/133928936, is a newspaper article, not a press release.

Secondly, The Plastic News reference here: https://www.plasticsnews.com/article/19981116/NEWS/311169984/australian-ceo-returns-to-roots-with-nylex-buy, looks like a news report as described underneath the title.

They are both PR material. You obviously have no experience of issuing press releases. They are issued to journalists who then make of them what they will. The fact that someone has tarted it up a bit is broadly irrelevant.

Where it is an interview, those are the words of the subject, thus they are a primary source.

I do agree that journalists do write articles based on press releases or other pieces of info that they come across through various avenues. However, what I do question is these two specific articles only in passing cite or mention a press release. They are simply commenting or providing information on the recent events of what the company is doing or issues. Those articles are not commenting on the individual press releases but the events surrounding it. I believe to say that these sources are not independent and thereby requires non-primary sources is false. Carey3146 (talk) 09:42, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

Since we disagree, and are likely to continue to do so, I have already asked for other impartial eyes on both these key articles. These eyes will be those of experienced editors, experienced in examining articles. I will defer to their opinions, and will hold back from further action.

I understand where you’re coming from there, and I too am confused on where Australian English stands on this matter. However, according to what I found on Google, it says:

“In Australian English (and British English generally), a full stop is used after an abbreviation when the final letter of the abbreviation is not the final letter of the abbreviated word when it is spelt out: Prof. – f is not the last letter of Professor. Rev. Etc”

Therefore, I think your edit probably needs to be reverted in light of this information.

• Titles, honours, forms of address

Australian National University also has multiple webpages referring to the Chancellor as The Hon Julie Bishop and not The Hon. Julie Bishop. While I prefer a good old period after an abbreviated title, my personal opinion doesn't matter.
