Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello Casper Gutman/Archive 1, welcome to Wikipedia!

I noticed nobody had said hi yet... Hi!

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Wikipedia Boot Camp, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

Jesus College

That's some fine work you're doing on improving the article - just thought you might like some feedback and encouragement. --Alf melmac 16:31, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

John Krebs

Thanks for sorting out the articles (I create the earlier one). I'm sure he'd never call himself John R. Krebs, so John Kreb is better. Newport 17:47, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Glad you're happy with the change. --Casper Gutman 00:55, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

St. Bede's College, Manchester

Very nice work on my alma mater. I take it you went there? Congrats. on getting to Oxbridge. (Pally01 17:17, 10 June 2006 (UTC))

Yes, I'm another Old Bedian. Now, one of these years I'll manage to leave Oxford!! --Casper Gutman 09:43, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Blair force one

Hi, you have commented in the discussion about the merits of the article Blair Force One in its discussion page. I thought you might like to know that it's now been nominated for deletion; if you would like to support or oppose that nomination you can do so at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Blair Force One. – Kieran T (talk | contribs) 12:02, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Changing User Name

I recall you changing your user name a few months back. How did you go about this? (Pally01 20:00, 23 September 2006 (UTC))

Untagged image

An image you uploaded, Image:Ampleforth crest.jpg, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 07:44, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Project

WikiProject University of Oklahoma

As a current or past contributor to a related article, I thought I'd let you know about WikiProject University of Oxford, a collaborative effort to improve Wikipedia's coverage of the University of Oxford. If you would like to participate, you can visit the project page, where you can join the project and see a list of open tasks and related articles. Thanks! Casper Gutman 15:09, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Count me in! I'll surf the project pages to see which articles need some attention. AulaTPN 13:05, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind message. I agree that getting the main University page polished up is a very good idea - though "domestic circumstances" mean that I may not be able to contribute much during the Easter holidays. I'll also keep an eye open for other people who might be interested, even if they didn't go to the only College worth attending! Best wishes, Bencherlite 09:24, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Men Against the Sea

Thanks for pointing out that issue with the infobox to me. That was my first article, so I wasn't quite used to the infobox code. I guess I need all the tips I can get at this point!

No films!

I've been hunting for something about Jesus College in Bill Leonard's book, which lists locations for films as well as Inspector Morse episodes, but I cannot find any reference :( --Alf melmac 23:08, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Shame! I'm not aware of any either. You'd have thought they could have done a few exterior shots for Lawrence of Arabia, at least! Casper Gutman 23:26, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Some welcome news :) --Alf melmac 06:15, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Oldham

Regarding this edit please note there is a conversation regarding this here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Greater Manchester MRSCTalk 14:14, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Oldham categories at Cfd

The question of whether 'Oldham' cats should be renamed to 'Metropoloitan Borough of Oldham' has been taken to CfD, see Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_June_9#Oldham. As far as I can tell, this renaming proposal would apply to Wigan, Stockport and all other metropolitan boroughs - UK-wide - that share a name with a town. Your contributions would be welcome. Coleg Iesu, Rhydychen

A question for you at Talk:Jesus_College,_Oxford#MCR_vs._GCR, in case you don't spot it on your watchlist. Regards, Bencherlite 20:59, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

If you're back in time, you may be interested in helping with the work needed as a result of comments made at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of people associated with Jesus College, Oxford as there are some blanks in the list that need to be filled! Newman Society ranking

Any chance of a re-assessment of the Oxford University Newman Society page? I've done a lot of work on it, and I think it definitely exceeds "start" level! NewmanSociety 17:28, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Winchester arms.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Winchester arms.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:51, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

A new Oxbridge user box

Casper Gutman...I am currently in the process of writing a user box for all of the colleges that are part of Oxbridge. This template is meant to replace your current college template. Please take a look at the work in progress and comment on it. My main concerns are college abbreviations and color choice. I am using scarf colors for the colleges. Thank you. - LA @ 17:19, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Oxford College Infobox

As you are a member of WikiProject Oxford I wanted to ask you what you think to the idea of encompassing Visitor's into the Oxford College Infobox? This is of course assuming that every College has a visitor. I know that the Archbishop of Canterbury serves as visitor to All Souls, Keble and Merton, while the Monarch is visitor at Christ Church. I am not to sure about the rest.Flaming Ferrari (talk) 01:00, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Featured Topic?

Hi Casper - what do you think about going for Featured Topic status for Jesus College? Jesus College, Oxford is a Good Article, and the alumni list and the Fellows list are now both Featured Lists. Any thoughts? BencherliteTalk 20:33, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea! I'd not come across the WP:FT concept before, but the set of Jesus College articles seems to fit the bill as far as I can see. It's certainly no less interesting, and the coverage no less complete, than some of the topics already covered there. I'd say go for it! At worst there'd be some feedback on related areas to improve.... Casper Gutman (talkcontributions) 13:36, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
I'll try and walk the founding fellows list through FLC first, then there'll be three FLs and your Good Article. Incidentally, are you still at the college? BencherliteTalk 21:01, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Officially, yes, but not day-to-day. Waiting for my viva. Casper Gutman (talkcontributions) 15:07, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Good luck! I think in the circumstances I'll spare you any requests for research in the Meyricke library for back-issues of the Jesus College Record... BencherliteTalk 21:44, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Jesus College, Oxford is now live, FYI. BencherliteTalk 14:56, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

A well-deserved reward

Sadly, no fancy gown comes with it, but hopefully you'll get your own one soon! Without your work in getting the main article to GA status in the first place, the Featured Topic wouldn't have happened. Thanks for your kind words. In fact, Featured Lists of alumni etc are dead easy. All you have to do is write dozens and dozens of properly-sourced articles about notable alumni/fellows, and the lists write themselves... Newman Society reassess

Hello there - just wondering whether (if you have time) you might cast your eye over the Newman Society page to see whether it merits an upgrade on the Oxford assessment scale. Has had a whole load of new material, citations added. NewmanSociety (talk) 10:52, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice! I shall do a bit more work and then get back to you :D NewmanSociety (talk) 20:13, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

GA reassessment of Jesus College, Oxford

I have conducted a reassessment of this article. I have some concerns which are listed at Talk:Jesus College, Oxford/GA1. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 18:54, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

It's been delisted; I've worked some more on it and relisted it. Hopefully by the time you're back it'll be back to GA status, and Buildings of Jesus College, Oxford will have joined Jesus College Boat Club (Oxford) as a featured article. Shame you're not active these days, but hope that you can resume at some point. Regards, BencherliteTalk 14:18, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

You are invited to the first ever Oxford Wiki Meetup which will take place at The Four Candles, 51 George Street, Oxford, OX1 2BE on Sunday 4 November 2012 from 1.00 pm.

I hope as many people as possible will be able to attend so that we can make this a regular event. If you have never been to one, this is an opportunity to meet other Wikipedians in an informal atmosphere for Wiki and non-Wiki related chat and for beer or food if you like. Experienced and new contributors are all welcome. This event is definitely not restricted just to discussion of Oxford related topics. Bring your laptop if you like and use the free Wifi or just bring yourself. Even better, bring a friend! Click the link for full details. Looking forward to seeing you.
