Hi. I would like to correct a place name but I don't know how. Can you take care of it? It's mentioned on the Canaan page I think. The name of the place is Greenbrier, Saskatchewan but it is spelled Greenbrie.

Greenbrier is where my father was born on the family homestead so I would like it to be correct. I can send you a picture of the Greenbrier sign with the school behind it. This is the only sign I saw when we were looking for the property.

False information

Cassopeai insists on spreading false information under Fiziev page. The fighter confirmed he is of Azeri and Russian ethnicity. As his mother is Russian and his Father Azeri. Cassopeia keeps changing it to Kyrgiz. Arguing that his parents ethnicity does not determine his.   • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 14 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 15 June. It will be on all wikis from 16 June (calendar).
  • Some wikis will be in read-only for a few minutes because of a switch of their main database. It will be performed on 14 June at 06:00 UTC (targeted wikis). [4]
  • Starting on Wednesday, a new set of Wikipedias will get "Add a link" (Abkhazian Wikipedia, Achinese Wikipedia, Adyghe Wikipedia, Afrikaans Wikipedia, Akan Wikipedia, Alemannisch Wikipedia, Amharic Wikipedia, Aragonese Wikipedia, Old English Wikipedia, Syriac Wikipedia, Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia, Asturian Wikipedia, Atikamekw Wikipedia, Avaric Wikipedia, Aymara Wikipedia, Azerbaijani Wikipedia, South Azerbaijani Wikipedia). This is part of the progressive deployment of this tool to more Wikipedias. The communities can configure how this feature works locally. [5]
  • The New Topic Tool will be deployed for all editors at Commons, Wikidata, and some other wikis soon. You will be able to opt out from within the tool and in Preferences. [6][7]

List of practitioners cleanup

Hi Cassiopeia.

I'm right now having a dispute with an IP user on List of Muay Thai practitioners. You have already encountered him on Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture. The IP address may change but from tone and geolocate, its pretty obvious its the same user.

Some of the changes to page which he has added MMA fighters, I consider not constructive. List of Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners is now bloated because almost every notable MMA fighter is a BJJ practitioner. Greco-Roman wrestling has MMA fighters who have no recorded experience in it. We already have categories for an extensive list of practitioners. Therefore I think we can trim the practitioner page.

I plan to make a clean up on these pages. But I wanted to ask your opinion on something. When we include MMA fighters under this section, what is an ideal criteria for putting notable ones on the page? For List of Muay Thai practitioners, I believe only Champion fighters that utilize muay thai as their main weapon in MMA and are known for it throughout their entire career should be included. Otherwise we will get a bloated list Category:Mixed martial artists utilizing Muay Thai. Fighters like Fabrício Werdum and Rafael dos Anjos have developed Muay Thai skills but they do not belong on the list in my opinion. Their main weapon will always be BJJ and they didn't even develop proper Muay Thai skills until they moved to Kings MMA which was already half way into their career. How can we claim these are the same as other fighters who have been using it as their main style since the very start of their career?

The same applies to List of Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners where we should include only specialists that use it as their main weapon in MMA. As for Greco-Roman wrestling, I need to look more on the fighters but some like Luke Rockhold definitely do not belong there.

For the list of...., you can specify on the criteria to be included in the page by recreating a sub section name "Notes/Key" for the subject to be included - example for BJJ certain degree and ADCC and IBBJ world champion with the support of independent reliable source and trim the list. Recent changes

  • The Wikipedia App for Android now has an option for editing the whole page at once, located in the overflow menu (three-dots menu ). [8]
  • Some recent database changes may affect queries using the Quarry tool. Queries for site_stats at English Wikipedia, Commons, and Wikidata will need to be updated. Read more.
  • A new user_global_editcount variable can be used in abuse filters to avoid affecting globally active users. [9]

Changes later this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 June. It will be on all wikis from 23 June (calendar).
  • Users of non-responsive skins (e.g. MonoBook or Vector) on mobile devices may notice a slight change in the default zoom level. This is intended to optimize zooming and ensure all interface elements are present on the page (for example the table of contents on Vector 2022). In the unlikely event this causes any problems with how you use the site, we'd love to understand better, please ping Jon (WMF) to any on-wiki conversations. [10]

Future changes

  • The Beta Feature for DiscussionTools will be updated throughout July. Discussions will look different. You can see some of the proposed changes.
  • Parsoid's HTML output will soon stop annotating file links with different typeof attribute values, and instead use mw:File for all types. Tool authors should adjust any code that expects: mw:Image, mw:Audio, or mw:Video. [11]

Hello Cassiopeia,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

If you want to AfD an article, you need to enable Wikipedia:Twinkle on your account and there will be a "TW" on your manu at the top of all pages in Wikipedia. Scout7416 Good day and thank you for the questions. There are "many rookie mistakes" for an new editor to make. One way to avoid that is to complete the TWA program (all the missions) which you have activated in your talk page for TWA program would provide you some of the basic Wikipedia fundamental guidelines. One thing I need to emphasis is that if you add or change any thing in a page, you need to provide independent, reliable source for verification - see WP:PROVEIT and WP:BURDEN for verification is the core policy of Wikipedia. Secondly, do not vandalize Wikipedia pages for you will be blocked from editing if you continuing doing so (I would not consider vandalism is a mistake but it is always with the intention to do so).
