Edit summaries and copyediting

I appreciate your copyediting efforts, but when you copyedit you should do so in a way that does not change the meaning of the original editors' words. I noticed, for example, in your Locke edits that you removed the notion of the "origin" of the modern self when you copyedited ("basis" is not exactly the same). Also, it is probably best not to summarize your copyedits as "fixing bad writing." That may offend some editors and start needless edit wars. The changes that you made to the Locke page, for example, were stylistic. They did not support the contention that the editor was a "bad writer" (grammar and punctuation mistakes, incorrect diction, etc.). Awadewit 02:49, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Wolfson College list of alumni

Hi, the revert is fine by me. One immediate judgement on whether an individual is notable or not at a quick glance can be made on whether or not that individual's name is red linked in the text: this was the basis of my copyedit. Over time you'll see how frequently the alumni lists are vandalised, or trivial information is added, and red links are usually a sign of that. It is generally the case that notable individuals have their own articles. If not, they ought to be written and then linked up. WP:BIO and WP:NOTE are also good places to review specifics in more details. Best. Coldmachine^Talk 19:02, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
