Uploading files[edit]

I noticed you were asking how to upload files. Unfortunatly, Word etc. files cannot be uploaded for practical reasons. They can be done using Wiki markup and HTML but you should always use Wiki Markup over HTML. A guide on tables is found here.

cattle[edit]

are you a cowgirl with a stetson hat and everything ?

Hi, i'm CattleGirl, i just got your message! Am i a cowgirl with a stetson hat? i don't know about a cowgirl, but i work with cattle every day and i have my eye on those hats, so yes and no! CattleGirl 08:56, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was just kidding with you. Good luck and yeehaa !Unixer 09:04, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, i take everything seriously! Happy editing CattleGirl 09:07, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CattleGirl. Great job writing the cattle judging article. It has a lot of useful content in it. But there is one problem: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, so articles should be encyclopedic with a neutral point of view. At this time, the cattle judging article is more like a manual on how to judge cattle instead of information about cattle judging. As I know nothing about the subject, I am unfortunately unable to make these improvements myself. So it would be wonderful is you could take the time to rewrite the article, with these considerations in mind. For more information, consult Wikpedia guidelines like what wikipedia is not. --Stijn Vermeeren 19:41, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

that's fine, i can have another look at the article and edit it when i can! So should I change the article to more what we're looking for when we're judging than actually how to judge? i'll do that soon! CattleGirl 00:39, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You can include some about how to judge, but not so much as right now. Have an eye for every aspect. In the introduction, write some lines about what is is, very generally, for people who do not know what cattle judging is. Then in the article, you can write about the where (on what occasions) one judges cattle, which people judge cattle and why they do so, about the history of this habit... Also, try not to talk to the reader (When you are judging cattle, you want to), but write from a neutral, third person's perspective (Wikipedia is after all an encyclopedia). I hope you find these remarks helpful in improving the cattle judging article, and other articles you might write in the future. --Stijn Vermeeren 11:25, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your contributions at WP:AIAV, but looking over this user's latest edits, it looks to me that the last batch of edits has been constructive. This could be a sign that a different person is now using this IP, and this person is contributing, so a block would at this point be more harmful than helpful. But keep on watching out for this, we could use all the help we can get! --- Deville (Talk) 06:25, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism reverting.[edit]

Thanks for your persistence in reverting vandalism to St Ignatius' College, Riverview. Remember that when making statements on pages such as User talk:144.132.192.3, you can use some of the templates on WP:VAND to help give added force to what you are saying. Further, you can go through from one warning to more serious ones as the vandalism continues. This gives civility - being hard but fair. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Jpe|ob 14:35, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That was an anon IP that added that. We get that type of vandalism in wrestling articles a lot when big news is announced. It's one of the reasons I think registration should be required to edit. TJ Spyke 03:50, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Signing your comments[edit]

Hi Cattlegirl,

When signing your comments on talk pages, can you use four tildes (~~~~) in the future? That not only adds your signature, but also stamps the time and date you left it, so it's easier for other editors to figure out when those comments were left without having to wade through the page history. I'm speaking specifically to your comments on User talk:Topcattheirrefutable, as an example. Thanks. Neil916 (Talk) 18:37, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Cattlegirl[edit]

Thankyou for your concern in the dispute. I essentially use no rules on wikipedia except the general convention of being wikipedian and attempting to improve the encyclopedia. I am the Ehinger but I am not Ehinger222 which is a different character. I have literally hundreds of created sockpuppets, but most of them are only used to create pages and are used once. I have literally contributed thousands of valid edits to wikipedia and have improved the enc yclopedia n areas very varied from Atlantis to the Basque language.

If I want to have a little fun at the expense of an i.d. that devotes its time almost exclusively to compiling"evidence" against me(most of it wrong for that matter), than is it really such a bad thing? Have a geeze at Dibo's account fr the month leading up to October 1st. The dude only came on looking for me. Oh ... and I am 90% sure that he is Tancred. They both eroneously assert tha soccer should be referred to as football which is stupid and wrong and thay continually troll by insisting on it in articles that they have done nothing to create or contribute to.

Comrade

13:06, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Topcattheirrefutable

Cattlegirl, I can remove the SP tag because I follow no rules and in 99% of cases I am entirely wikipedian. Protocol does not apply for me. 01:01, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Topcattheirrefutable

Rencin[edit]

Hello Cattlegirl I just want to know how to find out new users and give them a welcome note. Would be great if you can help me.Thanks. rencin24 rencin24 11:18, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the question and thought I'd answer here if you don't mind Cattlegirl. Try the new user log if you must welcome people. What I find is best, however, is to only give welcome notices to new users who you have seen to have been contributing positively to the encyclopedia. You can see this by watching all the articles you edit on your watchlist or scanning the recent changes log and looking for editors who have a red talk section next to their name. They are likely to be new. Look at their edit and give them the {{subst:welcome}} template (or {{subst:anon}} template if anonymous) ONLY if you think what they are contributing is positive. If however it is vandalism, place a WP:VAND template on their page. Hope that helps. Cheers and happy editing! Jpe|ob 11:25, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza![edit]

Welcome, CattleGirl, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Thanks for sending me a message! I don't get nearly enough these days! :) Why do I oppose nuclear power- I believe that there are a lot better energy sources out there, and even though there are advantages in nuclear power, the disadvantages are too great to ignore- eg the effect and danger it has on people.
Before I say anything, I would ask "how much other research and experience do you have in the field of nuclear engineering?" By "other" I mean, other than what was served to you on a silver platter—what you heard, or saw on the news, read in a newspaper, on popular website, etc.. By "other," I mean hours reading journal articles, books, personally discussing topics with experts, and people that live in the field. I ask it seriously, and not in a mean way, because I have no knowledge of you yet. So now I ask:
  • What do you think are the "better" sources?
  • How do you define "better?"
  • What do you believe the "effects and dangers" of nuclear fusion or nuclear fission power plants are to people?

Thanks, X [Mac Davis] (SUPERDESK|Help me improve) 18:13, 31 October 2006 (UTC).[reply]

November Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Re: EHR and EMR merge[edit]

I merged the Electronic Health Record and the Electronic medical records as to me there seemed to be a majority leaning towards the merge. As this has been backlogged since January, I really think an action on this merge should be taken soon. I'd like to know what's your opinion on this issue? I also noticed that you were one of the people supporting the merge. What action do you think should be taken?

CattleGirl, sorry I reverted your changes with little explanation, but I think you got the wrong idea about this merge. I think all of us who've been discussing this merge support the merge, but disagreement exists as to what should be merged with what.

So yes this merge request is backlogged, but discussion on how to proceed with it still continues. The EHR article must continue to contain information about EMRs because in health informatics theory an EMR is a special kind of EHR (ie conceptually EMR is a subset of EHR). The problem with the merge is that there is confusion over the technical meaning of EMR as a special kind of EHR and a more generic meaning of EMR as simply another word for EHR.

As to my opinion on the action that should be take... I think the EMR article should be replaced with a redirect to EHR. Much of the information in EMR is already in EHR -- and that which is not in EHR already should be copied into the relevant parts from EMR article. I think we need more time to agree on this though. Thanks for your patience! — Donama 07:06, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the user you reported on AIV. This particular user has not vandalised since a last few days and it is always better to leave a {{bv}} warning before putting the {{test4}} warning on his page. Such reports only help to clog up the page and the administrators are generally hesititant to make blocks based on a single warning. Many other users will skip to warn the user if they see a {{test4}} warning on their page. I hope you will understand. — Nearly Headless Nick {L} 10:55, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really glad someone else reverted the nonsense on that page this time! Those kids were starting to quiz me about whether I was working for the school because I kept yanking their scribbles. I tried to explain to them on the talk page that they do not in fact have the right to scribble whatever they like on "their" page. Is it possible for you to give me feedback on this? Thanks. - Chickville 05:11, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely! You seem to be doing very well on this article, but there's a few things to work on-
  • Firstly, you need to reword some things to make it sound like less of an advertisement- for example, the Ghostbar section at the moment reads: Ghostbar - With the futuristic venue atop the new W Dallas Victory Hotel and Residences Tower in downtown Dallas, the bar has a unique "ghostdeck," a 100-square-foot deck built entirely of glass with a see-through floor. You could change it to say 'the Ghostbar, situated on top of the W Dallas Victory Hotel is a unique, 100 foot square deck built entirely of glass'. Also, you can add a few sections about the history of the company, and maybe some large events that may have happened in the past.
  • Also try to remove/rephrase statements like this: ' Founded in 1999, the company own and operate contemporary American steakhouses and innovator of hip and sexy nightlife venues in these cities.' For this one, you can rephrase it to say something more like: 'Founded in 1999, the company own and operate contemporary American steakhouses, and are one of the first venues of this kind in these cities'
Just rephrase things like that, and there's some links in the templates at the top of the page that can help you as well. Other than that, it's a good article with a lot of potential- keep it up! Happy to help- CattleGirl talk | e@ | review me! 07:04, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot for the speedy reply. will work on your suggestions. - Chickville 07:26, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to become an admin[edit]

Hi. I'd like to become an admin, and I've been editing for 4 months with around 900 edits, and a lot more each day. Although I probably won't be applying for adminship for a while now, for there is a likely chance that it will fail (not enought mainspace edits, not enough experience for most users voting) I'd like to know what else I can do to a) 'help' Wikipedia more and b) increase my chances of a successful RFA. I've been doing as many admin-like duties as possible lately- the other day I cleared up most of [[Category: Articles to be merged since January 2006|this backlog/category]] and soon I'll be starting on more, as well as participating in more AFD's. Lately I've been getting into more and more vandal reverting, however I'd like to know what other admin-like duties I could do in the meantime that could also possible help me with an RFA in the future, and generally what other things I could do to help expand and 'monitor' (I'm assuming you know what i mean- reverting, wikifying) Wikipedia more. I've got an editor review up as well for the more non-admin type edits I've been doing. Thanks, your comments are appreciated, and I hope I learn a lot from here- CattleGirl talk | e@ | review me! 08:50, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First things first: since this page is most likely to be deleted, an alternate and different approach that I've set up which you may find useful is the Virtual classroom. I've been busy inviting some of the most prolific editors of Wikipedia to describe their methods, and some very interesting tips have been posted already. Come by and take a look. Interiot and Rich Farmbrough have been kind enough to help get things started by describing how they work on Wikipedia.
There are two basic ways to look at the goal of attaining adminship:
  1. Wikipedia needs more admins badly and so therefore seek adminship as soon as you think you can pass RfA. Think in terms of Wikipedia's needs.
  2. Don't fret it. Ambition makes other Wikipedian's suspicious/nervous. Just focus on Wikipedia. When the time comes for you to become an admin, the community will let you know. Don't seek it, it will come to you when you are truly ready.
There are many administrative things you can do without being an admin. You don't have to wait until you are an admin to start getting involved with administrative duties, and enjoying some of the toys admins get to use...
The Vandalism department for instance has tools which provide the rollback feature which admins enjoy having.
Editors in good standing are encouraged to get their feet wet in administrative chores such as closing deletion discussions: see Wikipedia:Deletion process#Non-administrators closing discussions.
The Wikipedia:Department directory has a section on editorial departments, which in turn has sections on writing projects and maintenance projects.
If it's advanced techniques you'd like to learn, the Wikipedia:Tip of the day schedule and tip library have many.
I hope this is enough to get you started. And hope to see you soon at the Virtual classroom.  The Transhumanist   12:43, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't happen to come to the United States recently on a cattle tour did you? Dukemeiser 01:49, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't, but I think one of my friends might have, she won a prize which involved cattle tours... CattleGirl talk | e@ | review me! 03:06, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Our farm recently hosted a group of Angus cattlemen and women from Australia (sponsored by Genex) and I would be interested to know if you knew anyone that went. Recognize anyone? You can email me at tony 'at' hooverangus 'dot' com if you know anyone. That would be really neat! Thanks- Dukemeiser 03:22, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I do, and I replied to your e-mail address. CattleGirl talk | e@ | review me! 06:44, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Virtual classroom update and assignment template[edit]

We've moved on to our second lesson in the Virtual classroom, though each lesson is continuous so we may see more additions to the interface share and compare as well.

To help keep track of what's going on, here's a template you can place at the top of your userpage or talk page:

Hope to see you at the Virtual classroom again soon.  The Transhumanist   11:59, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your message[edit]

Hi, i just reverted your changes to Tumbleweeds, as they seemed to be vandalism- not written seriously, and also putting down a lot of the characters. If you have any questions, please talk to me on my talk page. Thanks-- CattleGirl talk | e@ | review me! 02:30, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to point out that the actual descriptions of the Tumbleweeds characters (at www.tumbleweeds.com) are written in much the same style I used---I was trying to paraphrase T.K. Ryan's own words without using them directly. As I understand it, using Ryan's own phrasing would constitute copyright violation, but paraphrasis is allowed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Technomad (talkcontribs) .
That's fine, but the reason I reverted the changes was that the entry was not written in an encyclopedic manner- for example 'The Sheriff is the town lawman. He is assisted by a deputy named "Knuckles," who is incredibly stupid.' However if you rephrased this, it would be fine, as well as maybe putting in some comments about why the Sheriff is notable, etc. Other than that, the edits do have potential, I just think that you need to rephrase them and perhaps expand them a little. Regen Tate Peterson[edit]

Hi Cattlegirl. You tagged the above page as CSD G1. I would disagree. While it is definitely a candidate for speedy deletion, my guess is that it is an autobiography by a twelve year old, and not the ramblings of a lunatic. Because it might be quite an ego deflater for this kid to see his article dismissed as nonsense, and because this really is just a vanity page, I'd have tagged it A7 (Unremarkable people, etc). I left a welcome and an explanation of notability on his(?) talk page. Cheers, Denni talk 02:45, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that, I'll definitely keep it in mind- CattleGirl talk | e@ | review me! 02:48, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Future of Adopt-a-user[edit]

Hi there - with Flameviper leaving Adopt-a-user for the next generation to take on, and your obvious interest in the project, I was hoping you would find to comment and help out with some suggestions for the future of the project. Please see Wikipedia talk:Adopt-a-User. Many thanks Lethaniol 15:10, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Welcome[edit]

Thank you for the welcome to Wikipedia. I hope to do a good job editing articles. My areas of expertise are largely those of old World of Darkness rpg games, and I was hoping to do some work cleaning up those articles as well as helping fix general randomness. Thank you for the warm welcome. I'll read through the links you gave me. Oh, one question, how did you get the bits that Wikipedia normally convert to show up as plain text? Thank you again.
