Sockpuppet investigation
[edit]An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Coder196, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

Request reason:
I do not own the account of Coder196. It is own by my roommate. We are both new to Wiki. Coder196 tried to create the page Draft:Fengqi You, but it was unfortunately blocked permanently due to copyright violations (he simply copy from Prof. You's university webpage, which is incorrect). We feel that we should help Prof. Fengqi You to have a wiki page, as he is a good teacher and we appreciated his work - see below:
His research group recently created an interactive map to visualize the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in New York (state).[1]
This is the reason that I came in, and continue to edit the page for Draft:Fengqi You. Neither of us is professional editors in Wiki. I tried to edit other pages as well, such as process engineering and Efstratios N. Pistikopoulos, which are topics that I am familiar with.
This has nothing to do with so-called sockpuppet, and I hope the Clerk could take a second look and unblock me. The review comments of the previous submission are easy to address, and we can make an easy edit to finalize this first Wiki article, hopefully. Thank you for your consideration!!!
Decline reason:
What you describe is called meatpuppetry. We have no way to know who is sitting at the computer making edits, and as such we must treat two accounts doing the same thing as one person. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 06:40, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Request reason:
Dear administrators: I am new to Wiki, and not familiar with many policies here. As I mentioned before, Coder196 is my roommate, we are simply different people. Shall we take a photo and share with you? I cannot think of any way to prove to you that we are two different persons. Since my account is blocked forever, what shall I do next? My roommate's account is also blocked forever. Is everyone from our building banned from editing Wiki forever? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I tried to explain the situation and clarify any concerns. I'll be happy to do anything that you would suggest to clarify the relationship of my account and Coder196. As you can see from the history of my account, I did not do any editing in bad faith, and did not violate any Wiki policy in editing. I greatly hope that your dear administrator could please give me a second consideration on the request. Your advice to help me prove that we are two persons would be greatly appreciated as well. Many thanks! Chicago20092016 (talk) 13:04, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
Decline reason:
Roommate or not, this is a case of WP:MEAT. You have been operating from the same IP address, editing the same draft article. Sorry, but this is the end of the line here. It was deeply inappropriate to set up a new account to continue editing the same draft article, after the original account was blocked. Yamla (talk) 13:13, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Request reason:
Dear administrators: We cannot change the fact that we share the same IP, as it is a shared IP for the building. In fact, everyone in this building has the same IP. I am very sorry about "It was deeply inappropriate to set up a new account to continue editing the same draft article, after the original account was blocked." This is not the motivation, and it is not about after the previous one was blocked. We plan to set up the accounts nearly the same time. Somehow Coder196 was able to sign up, but the system blocked my IP when I was going to sign up, so I had to wait for the 2nd day. As I mentioned before, neither of us is professional editors in Wiki. I tried to edit other pages than the same one, such as process engineering and Efstratios N. Pistikopoulos, which are topics that I am familiar with. With regard to the common page that we are editing, the reason is that we both know the person and respect him. We are motivated by the fact the the article COVID-19 pandemic in New York (state) was edited by some one (definitely not us!) to include the COVID-19 mapping project. Thus, we want to create a page for Prof. Fengqi You to have a wiki page, as he is a good teacher and we appreciated his work on COVID-19: His research group recently created an interactive map to visualize the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in New York (state).[2] Now that this account is blocked forever, is there any chance that I could edit any wiki page in the future? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Sorry again for the inconvenience. We are indeed different persons, and would be happy to prove. Also, we are not 'targeting' for the same page, as mentioned above. Thank you! Chicago20092016 (talk) 13:46, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
Decline reason:
Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. Yamla (talk) 11:08, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

There is no way that you can "prove" you are two people; a photo only proves that you possess a photo. Even if you could, it doesn't matter. Probably the standard offer is your only pathway back to editing. 331dot (talk) 10:01, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
