A tag has been placed on Chris Hair Guitar Crocker requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. December 2013[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:52, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I just joined Wikipedia and you blocked my account practically before I even got started. At first I got a message that said I didn't provide enough information to who I was. Then when I provided links to information, I was deleted for advertising. Please make up your mind and unblock me. Thanks, Chris Crocker

Decline reason:

First of all, I will say that I do sympathise with you. You came here, evidently in good faith, believing that posting a page to tell the world about yourself and your work was an acceptable use of Wikipedia, and had no reason to expect that there would be any problem, so seeing your post deleted and your account blocked is no doubt disheartening. I will also say that I do not fully agree with the reasons given for the block by the blocking administrator, as I do not think that your username indicates that the account "is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization", and I don't think your username violates Wikipedia's username policy. However, the fact remains that your only purpose here appears to be to use Wikipedia to publicise your work, and to attract people to your web site and your Twitter account, which is contrary to Wikipedia policy. If you are interested in contributing to Wikipedia in other areas, then you are certainly welcome to do so, and please make another unblock request, this time indicating what contributions you intend to make, and making it clear that publicising yourself and your work will not be your purpose. However, if your only intention is to attract readers to your work, then Wikipedia is the wrong place to do it, because doing so is contrary to several different Wikipedia policies and guidelines, such as the policy that Wikipedia is not a means of promotion, the conflict of interest guideline, and the need for subjects of articles to be notable. (By the way, it was a misunderstanding to think that you were told that you "didn't provide enough information to who [you were]". You were told that there was not enough evidence that you were significant enough to be the subject of an encyclopaedia article, which is not the same thing at all. I could easily provide enormous amounts of information about who I am, but I still wouldn't be notable enough to be the subject of a Wikipedia article.) If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I need my page unblocked so I can create my bio. I have not broken any rules and may have been subject to autoblock, thanks. Chris Hair Guitar Crocker (talk) 02:13, 18 December 2013 (UTC) Chris Hair Guitar Crocker[reply]

{{db-u1}} Please delete or rename my account because obviously, I intended for this account to be a bio and was blocked for no good reason. I believe it has a negative affect on me personally since my real name is used. A simple search for me (Chris Hair Guitar Crocker) and a blocked account appears for me... that is not acceptable. Thanks, Chris Crocker

I have moved these messages down - new messages customarily go at the bottom of talk pages, so as to keep the conversation in order.
As JamesBWatson has explained, Wikipedia is not a place like Facebook or LinkedIn for people to post their own bios. Even Wikipedia user pages are different from those on social-networking sites: their use is explained at WP:NOTWEBHOST:

"Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they should be used primarily to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia. Limited biographical information is allowed, but user pages should not function as personal webpages or be repositories for large amounts of material that is irrelevant to collaborating on Wikipedia. If you are looking to make a personal webpage or blog or to post your résumé, please make use of one of the many free providers on the Internet or any hosting included with your Internet account."

If you would like to edit about subjects other than yourself, post another unblock request below here saying so; but if you came here only to post your bio and link to your work, this is not the site for you, though I add my apologies to JamesBWatson's that we do not make that sufficiently clear at sign-up time.
What Google finds when you do a search on your name is the deleted article. That will drop off Google's radar within a few days.
Wikipedia accounts are not deleted, and talk pages like this are not normally deleted, but they are not indexed by search engines. If you want more than that, and you are leaving Wikipedia permanently, see WP:Courtesy vanishing for what you can do to get this account renamed.
