The article Vinny O'Brien has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. File copyright problem with File:Vinny1.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Vinny1.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Slon02 (talk) 00:52, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:VinnyOBrien.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:VinnyOBrien.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 17:05, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:LouEsa.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:LouEsa.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. multichill (talk) 10:15, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Find A Dream requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 19:52, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

January 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Vinny O'Brien, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Zachlipton (talk) 23:33, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How to contest the speedy delete.[edit]

Just put the hangon tag under the speedy delete, and discuss the issue on the talk page. As long as you can prove notability (with sources) the article will remain. SeaphotoTalk 23:42, 10 January 2011 (UTC) SeaphotoTalk 23:42, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as Find A Dream Organization, to Wikipedia, as doing so is not in accordance with our policies. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read Wikipedia:Your first article; you might also consider using the Article Wizard. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Chris, I want to caution you. Continued creation of an article for Find A Dream under different article names in an attempt to evade may result in a block of your account. This equates to being electronically restricted from editing Wikipedia in any capacity. Cind.amuse 18:06, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but I have deleted the article and prevented its recreation under the same name. I do understand your heartfelt plea at Cind.amuse's talk page, but she is quite right; the articles as you have drafted them read entirely as self-promotion. They use terms like 'we' which are appropriate in advertising but not in an encyclopaedia article. I'm afraid that as you so very much want to see the article here, you may not be the best person to write it - see this link for why this is such an issue. It is also the case that repeated re-creation of the article may result in you being blocked from editing, but hopefully we can discuss matters so as to prevent that. If you would like to discuss what can be done further, please reply here. Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 18:17, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Redrafting article[edit]

I won't attmpt to recreate it again, but if I write it in 3rd person then would it meet the criteria?Chriscella (talk) 19:00, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Chris Cella[reply]

Hello again, yes it would certainly be necessary to rewrite in the third person but on its own this would definitely not be sufficient. The essential criteria for articles are that they are about notable topics - in the case of organisations the precise criteria are here. These are the criteria you should look at closely. You'll see that the demands are quite strict and it may be hard to meet them right now. There are some more general criteria here which apply to all articles, you may find them easier to meet.
The key is to have information about the organisation which is neutral in tone and can be verified by reference to reliable sources which are cited in the text. I realise those are a lot of links to look at but if you want to draft an article which will survive you will need to have some familiarity with them all. Have you had a look at this section on conflict of interest? It describes some of the problems in doing what you propose and other editors would be all over your article if you do nevertheless decide to try and draft it. The key to survival will be to have all your assertions well backed up with references to newspaper articles, independent publications, books, authoritative websites etc. The Make-A-Wish Foundation article is not a very good model as the references there are pretty poor. I think they scrape in by being nationally well-known. The Oxfam article is better (I realise it's a tough comparison when they've been going for decades!) as there are several good references there to well-known newspapers which mention Oxfam - not always positively - by name.
I'd have to advise you against the course of trying to rewrite this; even if you think you have done everything right other editors are likely to be highly critical and despite your best efforts you may find it hard to write neutral prose. In the worst case, you could spend ages drafting it only for it to be slated for deletion again. If you are determined to try then read ALL the blue links in my paragraphs above. Then I suggest you start drafting at an article in your own user space; I will copy the article you tried to submit earlier to the page at User:Chriscella/draft. Once that link is blue you can go to it and edit it as you would an article in main space, with the exception that other editors will not be patrolling it as aggressively. If you have any further queries please post here and I or another editor will pick them up. Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 21:13, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kim, thank you very much. I know I have been a pain in the butt, but I definitely appreciate you taking the time to explain all this to me. Thanks again. Chriscella (talk) 22:14, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Chris[reply]

OK Chris, no worries. WP has a very steep learning curve and new editors (especially those who seem to be coming with a particular agenda to pursue) can be treated quite roughly. On the other hand, initial mistakes which people show they can overcome are quickly forgotten, especially if an editor shows they can learn from others and is willing to conform to the rules that the community here has established. Post again here if you need more help. I've given this section a new heading to move us away from the section on deletion warnings - hope this is OK.Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 22:40, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lou Esa[edit]

Hi. I've noticed you keep requesting speedy deletion for Lou Esa. However, the criteria you're using (G7) won't apply to this article as a number of different editors have worked on it. If you really want to have this article deleted, you'll probably need to try WP:AFD, although I can't see anyone agreeing to this as the subject is a professional sportsman (meaning he passes WP:ATHLETE) and the article seems to have enough sources to satisfy our general notability guidelines. If you need any assistance, please feel free to ask me. Cheers, Bettia (talk) 15:43, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Lou Esa for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Lou Esa is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lou Esa until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.
