Hi Chzz, though whomever it was in elite team 6 of the US Navy Seals stationed at Dam Neck that killed Osama, is a national security secret, the significance of training these Navy Seals is being emphasized. BTW word of mouth has it that indeed it was one of Palhares's students who was resposible for killing Osama. I was hoping I kept it neutral by just referencing the ABC article on elite team 6, indicating the pride in knowing that it could very well be any of their neighbors. Any suggestions on what else I can do? I can see if I can word it differently to indicate the secrecy surrounding who actually killed Osama.

I do have a reference as to your other item that I will include when I submit my article for review again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FloridaFaye (talkcontribs) 21:58, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi Chzz, thank you for your advice. I'm still a little confused however, and I was hoping you would be able to help me out. I'm a college student and this is my first ever wikipedia post. You said I need to use independent sources for each fact stated in the article? I have a couple of sources directly from the company's webpage, is that not acceptable? I want to make this as relevant to the public as I can, and I would love any help you could give me to polish it up and make it neutral and pertinent. So any tips or instruction is very welcome, thank you for taking the time to help me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stephanieyang (talkcontribs) 02:33, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Stephanieyang - A few specific issues:
  • You assert that several companies are "Other Partners"...What does this mean? That SafeMart sells their components? If so, you need to tell the reader why that is important? Also, none of the three references (#7/Honeywell, #9/DSC, #12/UTC) I checked said that these companies were SafeMart's partners, they were just links to these various companies' websites.
  • The draft asserts that several entities are "Notable Customers and Affiliate Partners" with no sources to back up these statements.
  • There is an entire section that only lists products from GESecurity...this section resembles a sales brochure. Not every component that SafeMart sells has to be listed, in many cases for Wikipedia articles "Less is more". We're trying to write an encyclopedia here, not a business directory.
  • Independent, reliable sources are good. Wall Street Journal/Popular Mechanics/Times of London/Rolling Stone/New York Times= considered reliable, Press releases/company websites/social networking sites=not usually reliable. What Wikipedia requires are stable references with some editorial oversight and a reputation for accuracy. You need to find newspaper articles, magazine columns, transcripts of TV/radio interviews that are about the company or its founders or about the company's impact on society, etc., etc.
  • Also please remember to sign all your posts on talk pages with four tildes, that is 4 of these things --> ~. Doing so will automatically sign your user-name as well as put a time/date stamp at the end of your post.
Hope that helps, Shearonink (talk) 04:22, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm struggling to understand how the tone or the content materially differs from existing entries for other professional organizations, such as the American Society of Civil Engineers or the American Geophysical Union. In what sense does this proposed entry seem like an "advertisement", but the ASCE entry does not? I'm honestly confused. As the only existing entity providing professional certifications for hydrologists, some sort of AIH entry seems just as appropriate and necessary as ASCE's for civil engineers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.96.61.59 (talk) 03:04, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

In its present form the draft does not have enough independent, reliable references. You need newspaper articles, magazine columns, reports on TV news websites, etc. that are about the organization itself, about how notable/important/influential it is. Two of your present references are from the organization's own website and are not independent.
I understand that other professional societies might have articles in Wikipedia, some are probably pretty darn good but Wikipedia has over 3.8 million articles and sometimes?...well, sometimes not-so-good articles do get published. An army of volunteers tries to keep the quality-level as high as possible but sometimes we don't succeed. Some sort of entry about AIH might eventually get published here at Wikipedia but why not make it the best it can possibly be? That is all any of us are trying to do.
I am going to put some links on both the talkpage of the AfC's creator and on your talkpage. Hopefully the links will help the two of your work on the draft. Good luck, Shearonink (talk) 04:53, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi Chzz, thanks for taking a look at the article, and fair enough with your comments too. I am currently corresponding with the original article author and subject of the article via OTRS, and I'm informed that most of the material is sourceable to reference #3, a biography by Pamela Murrell. I've asked the subject if the source is available online or how we can get a copy of it if not. Please give us a few days and we'll see where it leads. Question about notability of prominent public companies

Hi Chzz,

Thank you for your review.

Masan Group is Vietnam's largest/second largest publicly listed company (exact status depends on daily stock price) and the recipient of Vietnam's largest to date foreign investment. This appears to establish notability according to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:LISTED

Does this notability only apply to United States stock markets?

Thanks again for your help. Keep up the good work! It's all appreciated.

Hi. I'm not Chzz, he's gone AWOL for a bit. The relevant bit of policy seems to be concerned with "whether ... publicly traded corporations listed on major stock exchanges such as the NYSE, NASDAQ and other comparable international stock exchanges, are inherently notable. Consensus has been that notability is not automatic in this (or any other) case". It goes on to say that companies in this position are most likely to have plenty or other sources anyway. I don't know if the Vietnamese exchange counts as an 'international' one or not, but I advise you to find other reliable independent sources as well (WP:RS). Peridon (talk) 18:47, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Hello Chzz!

What can I do to make my William Scharf article better.

The material that I found, also coming from the artist himself, I referenced and tried to keep very simple. The author is 84 years old and in failing health and I personally turned him on to the Internet and wikipedia.

Please advise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theamericani (talkcontribs) 21:17, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

In the absence of Chzz, I'd advise you to lose it quickly. It's copy and pasted from the Phillips collection page. That's a WP:COPYVIO on the one hand, and most likely subject supplied info on the other, so it probably fails WP:RS. Look at that policy, and get independent reliable refs, and do a thorough rewrite. Not just changing odd words, REWRITE it. If just bits are changed leaving the original recognisably there, it's still a copyvio. Read WP:NPOV about neutral point of view, and avoid things like "continues to live, create, and inspire". Live and create, yes, but 'inspire' is an opinion without good referencing to show that he does. Let me know if you need an opinion on anything. Peridon (talk) 18:41, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Simon Campbell (musician) - draft article

Hi there,

You kindly reviewed my article on Simon Campbell but in your feedback explained that there weren't nearly enough references.

Would you be able to to give me some pointers re. references ie are some areas more important to reference than others, or should a certain percentage of the article be referenced?

I will try to amend as much as I can.

Most grateful for any help at all that you can give (this is my first stab at writing a Wikipedia article, as you can probably tell!).

ElizaCorlett (talk) 21:58, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Without seeing the article, I'd say reference anything that could be disputed, is possibly controversial, or just looks weird. What is important is that the references establishing notability should be reliable independent sources. (It's best if all are, but you can get away with some once notability is established.) Look at WP:RS - no blogs, forums, wikis, IMDb, own sites, Facebook, MySpace and all the rest of those, reverbnation etc: none will do for notability. Peridon (talk) 21:18, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Regarding article submission entitled: "Pro-Vas Occlusion"

Hi Editors,

Thank you for your review of the article I submitted. I appreciate your help in improving the article.

I believe that I have addressed your questions of relevancy in the article itself and resubmitted it for your review. However I wanted to make a few additional comments that were not relevant for inclusion in the article but they speak to the relevancy of the topic.

I have been told (verbal discussion) by the CEO of MenRx Surgical LLC, the developer and manufacturer of this new medical device, that they have over 100,000 visitors to their website annually seeking information about this new method of birth control. He tells me that approximately 1 in 5 of these visitors seek out a surgeon to perform the procedure (data from Google Analytics).

Further, I am told that at this time approximately 100 vasectomy surgeons perform the Pro-Vas Occlusion procedure.

Although these statistics have no particular interest to the readers of the article I submitted, I believe they speak to your concern about the relevancy of the topic.

Thanks and best regards,

You rejected my page, because "it is not from a reliable source." the information I provided was actually from mark Evans own website, so it was from a VERY reliable source! Please review your decision. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wicked112233 (talkcontribs) 20:24, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

No, someone's own site is not considered reliable here. Is someone going to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth on his or her own site? Telling the truth is easy. Nothing but the truth is easy. But the whole truth? Cromwell asked for his portrait to be warts and all (or so the story goes). If you saw some of the sites I have seen while working here, you would be more doubtful of 'own site' claims. People who claim to have international businesses when all we can find is a website full of misleadingly named companies that seem to have no existence anywhere else. People claiming to be the exiled King of Bagpussia (or somewhere like), when the monarchy there finished over a thousand years ago, and at least half the locals have more genetic links to the departed royalty than the claimant (who has a Spanish name and lives in Peru). (I've disguised the cases here to protect those not actually guilty in law...) See where we're coming from? You didn't even tell us your source - all biographies of living people must have at least one reliable reference, and to show notability, more are preferable. Please see WP:BIO and WP:RS. Also, when posting on talk pages, would you please put a header (like I've done for you), so that your post can be noticed and found (put two = signs on both sides of the text), and at the end please sign with ~~~~. It wasn't Chzz that declined - but it was his bot that put the helpful section on your talk page. I'm answering here on behalf of Chzz, who is missing for the moment. Can I suggest that you look at WP:PRIMER, which is designed to explain Wikipedia a bit for new editors? Cheers. Peridon (talk) 18:47, 16 February 2012 (UTC) (which looked like ~~~~ when I typed it)

Regarding my article for submission about Bernadette Davis.

Hi Chzzz, I must admit that I'm a little bit lost as to why you say I need to "explain the importance or significance of the subject." Andrew Davies, with whom Bernadette Davis co-wrote 'Game On' (note different spelling, they are different people, not related in any way) is obviously considered important and significant, for he has an extensive page on Wikipedia; 'Game On' itself is obviously significant and important: it too has has an extensive page on Wikipedia; everyone in the cast and quite a few other people involved in making the series have wikipedia pages, so would seem to be considered important by wikipedia; the other programs which she wrote (Wilderness, Soldier Soldier) are considered to be important enough to have wikipedia pages, so why should the writer of all of these programs not be important or significant enough to have a wikipedia page? I cited the IMDB as reference for I thought that would be enough of a reliable & independent source (and it is considered as such on several other wikipedia pages, e.g. the ones for 'Game On' and 'Andrew Davis') - it is after all THE acknowledged main data source for everyone in the film & TV world. If this is all not enough, will it just be a case of adding another 'verifiable and independent' source? (Should I cite the bbc online or british comedy guide sites as well, as the 'Game on' page does?) Or can I just now resubmit? Yours, PaukiPKK (talk) 10:18, 15 February 2012 (UTC)PaukiPKK

You don't give any reliable independent sources. IMDb is full of interesting info, but here it is not considered reliable as much of that info is subject or fan supplied. (Possibly neither in the case of Adolf Hitler, who does have an IMDb entry...) Please see WP:RS. No blogs, forums, wikis, own sites or other primary sources like IMDb, LinkedIn, AboutUs, MySpace etc. Andrew Davies has one heck of a lot more for notability than 'Game On', so you cannot compare the two. Co-writing with him doesn't necessarily confer notability, and having a part in the matter of something notable doesn't necessarily either. Both could just mean you get a mention in the main article. I'm not going to say anything definitive about the notability of screenwriters in general, although some do come to mind like Perry and Crofts, and 'Sid and Dick', as I know little about most of them. (I've not got beyond live performance yet, myself.) Provide better references, and it could help your case. You might have had better advice from Chzz himself. In his current absence, you've got one of his understudies... Peridon (talk) 21:01, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Greetings. I have inserted references. Could you please review that these are sufficient. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JMmorganGH (talkcontribs) 03:41, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

At a quick glance, they look a bit company derived. Look at WP:RS and try to avoid anything company sited or supplied if there's something independent to be had. Has to be more than a mention, though, and not one of those interviews where the interviewer asks neat short questions, and the intervewee answers in jargon supplied by the PR Department. You know what I mean. Peridon (talk) 21:04, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Please stay around

Hallo Chzz,

I know nothing at all about the wikidrama of IRC/wikipedia-en-help, as I've never got involved in IRC chat anywhere. But I saw from mentions on Pesky's user page that you were leaving / threatening to leave / had left Wikipedia.

This is just a quick note to thank you again for your wisdom and help in defusing the aggro at Swarcliffe a while back, and to hope that the encyclopedia isn't going to lose that wisdom.

I hope that you'll feel able to stick around and help. We need grownups around here (in a world where self-declared pre-adolescent editors can go all peculiar at the sight of the word "s*x" even in that bowdlerised form... aaargh.)

Rayfoxsoftware

To whom it is a concern: I am the father of the creator of Rayfoxsoftware. In the creation of the Rayfoxsoftware page no intention of advertising whether commercial or personal was intended or insinuated by any means. Rayfoxsoftware was created by a wonderful very talented young 17year old child that exist in the world of Autisim, he has overcome the massive obstacles to come one of the foremost computer programmers of this age. He still has Autisim but he is a rare Gem in this world. In the creation of the Rayfox software page, he wanted to assist in its information, to share with the world, his creations. We may not understood all the end and outs of Wikipedia, but I assure you the explanations are innocent of the intent for self-promotion or self-Gradification. We only see the need for the progress for normal life for a very creative child, who has achieve extraordinary things, where limitation in the world of Autism is the norm. We will take steps in the future as we edit our page to adhere to the policies of the Wiki world.

Thank You for your concern. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rayfoxsoftware (talkcontribs) 04:12, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

I wish your son success in overcoming his problems, but the article and userpage are/were promotional in their wording, trying to get people to visit the site. Whether the intent to promote was there or not, the wording was indisputable. Please see WP:SPAM and WP:NPOV about promotion, and neutral point of view. Also, please see WP:RS about the reliable independent sources needed for any article, WP:WEB and/or WP:CORP about notability, and WP:COI about conflict of interest. I'm afraid I've had to block your account on two grounds: first, the username appears to represent an organisation (even if that 'organisation' is only one person) and apparent attempts have been made to promote the organisation here; second, I am not sure whether the account is being used by more than one person or not. Multiple use of accounts is against our rules. Your use of 'we' and 'our' is part of the reason for my doubt in this matter. I would also advise you that the page is not 'yours'. Any Wikipedia article is open to editing (subject to certain exceptions including protection, banning, blocking etc), and does not belong to any person. Please see WP:OWN. You are probably in the number of the people who have a mistaken idea of Wikipedia, namely that we are like a non-commercial version of sites like MySpace and AboutUs, and that freedom to edit means that one can add anything. If this is the case, sorry, no. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia with rules about admissibility of information. Not every person or organisation (or hamster or product or belief...) gets an article. Some quite large companies don't, because they fail on notability. Only their suppliers, customers (other large companies) and the Infernal Revenue have heard of them. No RS. Sorry if I have sounded a bit harsh here. It's not easy to explain clearly and avoid raising hopes too high. I've found only 91 Google hits for "Rayfoxsoftware", which include Wikipedia. Number of hits isn't a required thing - some things seem to have masses of hits until you get really down to it, and some are found in books and newspapers but not the net. If you request unblocking and name change, please make sure you say that only one person has the account (and the other one will have to have their own), and be aware that you probably won't be able to create pages about Rayfoxsoftware (often there is a condition set on unblocking and name change. I've answered this instead of Chzz, who is taking a break from all the hard work he has done here. (His bot is still going, though - poor little thing doesn't get a holiday...) Your user page and screen readers

Hi Chzz, would you mind de-transcluding Template:AFC statistics from your user page, and just linking it? Your user page freezes my screen reader JAWS for over a minute, because it has to process the AFC statistics template, figure out that it needs to be hidden, then go through all the trouble of hiding it. According to my testing, the latter process is the step that causes the most pain; by unhiding the AFC statistics page on your user page in preview mode, I reduced the delay to a few seconds.

I suppose I could do this myself, and I plan to do it in a couple of days if I don't hear any objections. I understand that you've left Wikipedia so I don't mind if one of your talk page stalkers does it for me. I don't think we've met before, and I had no occasion to visit your user page until today, while checking links to the new article about the Commonwealth Paraplegic Games. I thought it was odd that somebody would link to this article from an unrelated user page; I activated the link out of curiosity, and then JAWS froze for over a minute. I was just dropping by because I'd come across this project, which seemed like something you should be involved in. What's the message at the top of this page about? What's happened? J Milburn (talk) 10:02, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

This happened (see the very last comment) essentially. You can read the whole thing if you wish, but the gist is that Chzz feels extremely strongly about the use of IRC for helping newbies. As you can see there, his suggestions pretty much went nowhere. That was the final straw, from what I gathered. Unfortunately, this seems to be permanent :( Nolelover Talk·Contribs 23:22, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Dear Author/Chzz

My name is Nuša Farič and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at the University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Wikipedia pages and Why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Wikipedia pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Wikipedia and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address edited an article on Arthrography. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article and or other health-related articles. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hydra_Rain) and if interested, please reply via my talk page or e-mail me on nusa.faric.11@ucl.ac.uk. Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance. Hydra Rain (talk) 16:37, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

The Wikipedia Adventure: Request for feedback on Community Fellowship proposal

Hi! I'm contacting you because you have participated or discussed The Wikipedia Adventure learning tutorial/game idea. I think you should know about a current Community Fellowship proposal to create the game with some Wikimedia Foundation support. Your feedback on the proposal would be very much appreciated. I should note that the feedback is for the proposal, not the proposer, and even if the Fellowship goes forward it might be undertaken by presently not-mentioned editors. Thanks again for your consideration.

Dispute Resolution IRC office hours.

Hello there. As you expressed interest in hearing updates to my research in the dispute resolution survey that was done a few months ago, I just wanted to let you know that I am hosting an IRC office hours session this coming Saturday, 28th July at 19:00 UTC (approximately 12 hours from now). This will be located in the #wikimedia-office connect IRC channel - if you have not participated in an IRC discussion before you can connect to IRC here.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Eat your kimchee logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Eat your kimchee logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:09, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Dear uploader: The media files you uploaded as:

If the information is not provided, the images may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions, please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Theo's Little Bot (error?) 09:31, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

Request to take part in a survey

Hi there. I would very much appreciate it if you could spend ~2 minutes and take a short survey - a project trying to understand why the most active Wikipedia contributors (such as yourself) may reduce their activity, or retire. I sent you an email with details, if you did not get it please send me a wikiemail, so that I can send you an email with the survey questions. I would very much appreciate your cooperation, as you are among the most active Wikipedia editors who show a pattern of reduced activity, and thus your response would be extremely valuable. Proposed deletion of Kisses in the Moonlight

The article Kisses in the Moonlight has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Seems to be a very minor release, considering its lowly peak chart position (well outside the Top 40) and there's no suggestion it attracted any reviews or coverage. Fails WP:NMUSIC.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
