Did you know...?

[edit]

Hi, I've nominated an article you worked on, Penmanshiel Tunnel, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article at Template talk:Did you know#Articles created on July 10 where you can improve it if you see fit.
EdJogg 13:59, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Ed, will take a look.
Updated DYK query On 16 July, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Penmanshiel Tunnel, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Hi - I noticed your note about the ariel image on stadium:mk concerning copyright violation.

I was the user who originally posted this image onto the wikipedia commons after seeking permission of the owner of the now defunct mkdonsrus.com.

My apologies if this has caused you or your father offence or loss in anyway.

With regard to the images removal, you are of course entirely within your rights to remove it. I feel however that this image is unique in it's recording of this particular view of the stadium at that point in time, and so I would be delighted if you'd consider leaving it in place as I feel it really adds something to the article.

If you wish me to alter the copyright notice and attribution in order that the image might remain let me know and I'd be more than happy to do so.

Thanks

Zorro77 (talk) 12:29, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zorro, no offence has been caused by you, as I am happy to assume good faith on your part. I'll speak to my father and see if he is willing to leave the image in place with redirected accreditation. I agree its a great shot and would be a shame to remove it totally - please leave in place until I have had the opportunity to discuss it with him. ColourSarge (talk) 12:49, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

'Big Four' GA push

[edit]

Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this. I know I suggested the whole idea, but I'm not going to be able to contribute hugely (very busy off-WP). My apologies. I'll help out where I can, indeed, have already started as Geoff has done some groundwork on the GWR article. (I know about the GWR, and have books; I don't know that much about the others.)

What is interesting, from the little thinking I've already put into the GWR article, is that we will start to see where there are articles or lists missing. For example, why isn't there a page which lists the civil engineering features? (Wharncliffe Viaduct,Sonning Cutting, Maidenhead Railway Bridge, Severn Tunnel, and many more besides.) This would not need to be a list page, it would be straightforward to arrange as prose. Also missing is a list of GWR CMEs. Etc, etc.

Keep up the good work.

EdJogg (talk) 14:01, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, although I'm working on the LMS article at the moment, just to concentrate on the lowest class articles first, it's good to see the interest spreading. Hopefully this is an area in which I can make a good contribution, instead of just tinkering round the edges! ColourSarge (talk) 01:22, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've put my 2p worth in om the talk page. Mjroots (talk) 16:18, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I've made it as clear as I can to the three of them. IMO this has gone on way too long, and needs to be brought to an end before long. Mjroots (talk) 18:43, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Buiscuittin is showing the most positive response. He has been adding references to the article. Mjroots (talk) 04:47, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Forgot to mention, I've left a message on both mediators talk pages. I'd wait for a response from them before starting a RFC or maybe reporting to WP:AN/I (likely to get a response there!). Mjroots (talk) 04:52, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've been looking around, and maybe WP:Rfar is the way to go. Looks pretty complicated though. Mjroots (talk) 05:56, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've had enough, just raising the issue at WP:AN/I now. Mjroots (talk) 08:28, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've raised the issue at WP:AN/I. 08:41, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Request for assistance

[edit]

{{helpme}}

I'm requesting assistance from other editors in determining the most appropriate method of finding resolution in a current discussion here. The issues as I see them are:

  • The discussion has become thoroughly unproductive with the three editors involved resorting to quoting contrary sources at each other.
  • Failure of the editors involved to maintain NPOV.
  • Heading towards (and possibly already breaching) WP:CIVIL.
  • Failure to respond to an informal attempt at resolution by a fellow editor and myself.
  • Multiple reversions of the article, verging on (and possible already breaching) WP:3RR.
  • I have also requested input from neutral editors at the relevant project talk page, though so far without much result (their opinions when offered were ignored by the editors involved in the dispute).

I have reviewed several courses of action including Wikipedia:Third Opinion, WP:RFC (which has already been asked for and again has so far been ignored by the editors involved), WP:AN and WP:Helpdesk and am not certain which is the best avenue to pursue. I would also like guidance on whether it would be appropriate to ask for the page to be protected until a consensus is reached, and if so whether that should be the current version (which has been the subject of multiple reverting edits) or the most recent version prior to the current discussion.

If I have not made myself clear, then please feel free to ask for further clarification from me here. ColourSarge (talk) 01:11, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks, wasn't being ungrateful just seeking help as to what to do - have tried to speak to the editors involved but they seem unwilling to take any advice :oSColourSarge (talk) 22:03, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Harvnb

[edit]

Hi, see the changes I've made. You were nearly there. If you want to group references, its the same as any normal reference <ref name="etc etc">. I also used the last2 and first2 fields, that makes things a little tidier, and the {{refbegin}} {{refend}} is important too. Its dead simple and really neat and tidy once you're done, and the best bit is that it encourages you to always use page numbers. Parrot of Doom (talk) 23:43, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Transport in Buckinghamshire

[edit]

Hi and thanks for that typo correction. It's nice to see another Wikiproject Bucks member editing this article (there have only been two!). If you know anything about transport, feel free to add it. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 20:36, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks- that would be great. I'm also interested in the Underground- if there's any help I can give, feel free to ask. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 20:47, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've taken the rail section from Transport in Buckinghamshire and created its own article, Railways in Buckinghamshire. That's the one I will be working on, so I'd watch that to see updates. See you around. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 21:46, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:51, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
